I don't think it's cool to go exploring and find myself suddenly ganked because I entered a non consent pvp area without my knowledge.

You didn't hear the "You are now entering the original facet" sound effect?

There's a cave in the abyss, i go thru, start talking to a blue who says he doesn't know wht's down there either, so i walk about 10 screens in and am suddenly surrounded by reds, then i notice that the blue walking with me is a true brittianian, as are the group of reds.

I'm just not into molestation game play. I'm sure I'll get flamed by all the pvpers and what not, but I go to great lengths in my life to express and share kindness to others. For me, the alternatives are death or imprisonment.

I don't appreciate being dropped into game play situations where I am forcibly trapped into interacting with people who get their rocks off by inflicting injury onto others, virtual or other wise.

I would like a refund of my purchase please.

If your mood is cheerful *points to your stratics mood* I'd hate to see what you're like when you're angry.

Having said that, I can sympathize with you. I haven't been to the pvp areas myself so I can't really make any judgment calls on how this was handled.

It is supposed to warn you when you go in there but it doesn't. I ran in there myself but no one was there thank goodness.

Sorry this happened to you. :sad4:

If the warning is a mere sound it clearly cannot be enough.

First, a lot of players do play with sound off, second, if might go unnoticed.

A text gump warning would be safer, IMHO.

I remember a developer saying that the Felucca facet areas of the Abyss would be clearly identified so that a player would know. They aren't identified at all until you're inside and it's not all that obvious either.

Then I should have alot of my money paid to UO back, this is the first exp pack with some PvP in new land.

I have one shard to choose, you have 20 with a little part of the map you won't go too.

Making small parts of the map PvP make this zones very dangerous.

On Siege the whole map with all facets and half of the towns are PvP. That mean, there will always be a peaceful place to find, reds can't be everywhere.

I took a walk around that area and there was no warning. I had a feeling what it was so I had my stealther and went in the safest way possible. Once I saw what it was and the amount of people in there I stealthed back out.
Would be nice to have a gump because many times I have my sound turned down or headphones off.

These passages should give the same warning that crossing any other gate gives. I had to listen in on a guildmate getting ganked for this same reason. She was upset by this as she was just exploring the new dungeon. She also plays without sound on. And besides:

    This is correct.
    * The only non-consensual PvP areas of the expansion are the two new Champ Spawns
    * The entrances to these are *clearly* marked, and there will be a warning gump added to players trying to pass into them from the Trammel side of the Abyss
    * There will be Felucca entrances to each Champ Spawn hidden in the Anti-Virtue dungeons
    * Murderers will only be able to use the Felucca exit, and not enter the Trammel ruleset Stygian Abyss dungeon
    * The Champ Spawn areas are separate content, that have Trammel-ruleset entrances inside the Stygian Abyss dungeon. They cannot be entered accidentally. They will not be confused as PvE content.
    http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?p=1360725#post1360725

It means you can't accidentally run into them and get PK'd while just exploring the Abyss dungeon. You have to go through a special entrance and accept the warning to continue.

Sounds about right. You applaud the griefers that abuse the game mechanics, in order to bait an unsuspecting blue into being ganked by a group of reds.

There's your heartpounding pvp battle, that gives you your risk versis reward ;)

SOunds like someone dropped the ball there. Sorry about your experience... I would have been upset too!

And the PvPers that think this is funny? Those that play in the Trammel rule set areas do so for a reason... we don't go into your areas and tell you NOT to PvP and how to play.. why is it you are always trying to make us look like idiots or as it was put "Carebears" for not PvPing? I personally do not PK... period... don't like it... the glory is for but a moment and the loot is crap. I shouldn't be forced to because I stumbled into an unmarked zone. And that Blue he talked to KNEW he didn't have a clue... and still let him go down there and get hit by the guys buddies. Sorry... that's crap... that's poor gameplay... period. Not to mention that fact that what kind of sport is it to surround and kill ONE player... My bad... you are cooler than anyone in this game. KUDDOS!

I don't think it's funny, don't get me wrong, the bug need to be fixed so the warning can work as it should.

Noone, not even a PvP'er like to be ganked when they expect to be safe. The ones who take advance of this bug must be kids or other immature who not respect peoples right to choose not to play in PvP zone.

There should definitely be a gump warning (different than the moongate one that now everyone is used to skip). They wanted to put a warning. So if there's no warning, there's a bug.

Please don't fall for the troll bait about Trammel/Felucca/PvP/PK etc.

Usually a post this utterly ridiculous & pathetic is followed by a tip-off or confession of sarcasm. But as I have yet to see one I will have to assume it is sincere?

Are you sure that you have been going "to great lengths" to express and share kindness and AVOID violence or injury as inferred by your post?
Have you ever seen any artwork at all related to Ultima? Have you never read the ratings on the game?

You say that you "go to great lengths" yet you still bought & play one of the most violent games in the history of the freaking virtual world?

Ty though for the laugh and thanks for making my personal 'top 10 lunatic posts' list

    Peace :)

The ones who are tricking non PvP'ers going there knowing the warning do not work sure need a temp banding and a mark on their account, that's the kind who are the reason we had to split the game in 2 ruleset, the ones who get joy from ruining others game.

PvP'ing in UO was meant to be RP and if done right, the victim do not need to abused and harrassed.

I know the cave of which he speaks of... enter via cave door... long long long walkway into are where I believe it's the Medievil Lich spawn. I was exploring the other day, and didn't know it was the fel spawn area until I saw a red run by. My music is turned off.. so no, no warning. I was just lucky there was no ganking that day. Yes these areas are supposed to be clearly marked to prevent the errant crafter/wanderer from walking in unawares.

But here's my question.. There are 2 champ spawn, fel ruleset areas.. I have yet to discover where the other one is! I've crawled all over the Abyss... so I must have been there.. anyone care to point me in the right direction?

Yes actually, it is fun. You know, that is what you are meant to do whilst playing a game.

The OP should of learned a valuable lesson by being tricked. You cannot trust people.

Rez killing only happens if the ghost is dumb enough to allow themselves to be rez killed.

No. You don't need warning signs or anything. You need player intelligence. The player should of realized that the area he/she was in was dangerous area and that the risk of death from either player or monster was high. It is the OP's fault that they died.

You don't PvP because you cannot handle that some people are better at the game than you and are able to kill you as a result of that. Otherwise why would it matter? After all, death is the same in UO weither you die to a monster or a player. Clearly it is the fact that a person is killing you that you (and those like you) cannot handle.

Its a game. I suggest YOU get a life and stop taking the GAME too seriously.

If the OP's account is correct (and I assume that is so) then the PKs did not abuse any game mechanic. It was simply cleaver trickery on their part and stupidity on the part of the gankee.

If you think that is a 'heartpounding pvp battle' then you clearly have no idea. Have you ever thought that PKing is a form of rollplaying? They are playing MURDERERS, its what they do.

"violent only if you choose it to be so"

A gun is also only violent if you choose it to be so.

A nuclear weapon is also only violent if you choose it to be so.

My point was quite clearly that the OP most certainly was/is not going to any "great lengths to express and share kindness" by playing one of the most violent games on the planet.

I am obviously not an expert on ways to "express and share kindness" but I am fairly certain that there are probably about a billion other better ways for the OP to do so.

Especially when in his own words his alternative is "death or imprisonment"

    *shakes head*

Yup!! And there, folks, is how Sneaky, and the rest of the UO PK Community likes to build our "Community"!!

Might the same be said about you? Your seeming boundless joyous glee that others (many others) PKed a lone "Noob" player in an unmarked, bugged area of a new land, clearly demonstrates, to me, how far down you, and those like you will go to get your "Fun".

It's because there is no community that we have this problem in the first place. The OP obviously didn't know the person who tricked them and trusted them anyway. Big mistake. What did this random PK do to earn the trust of the OP? Nothing. The trust was misplaced.

Question for you. If you were walking down a street in real life and some stranger came up to and told you to follow them down a dark dangerous looking ally, what would you do? Trust them and follow them to down to where their gang of thugs are waiting to bash or mug you (or possibly worse)? Or use some common sense and walk the other way...

I just like to acknowledge a good job when I see it. The PKs did nothing wrong in what they did. They lured their mark in and pounced. To them the kill was probably a formality and wouldn't of been anything special. It is the act of deception that impresses me.

Now, what would of REALLY impressed me is the gankee escaping! Imagine the gratifacation he/she would of gotten from eluding the fearsome murderers. Hopefully this experiance has helped them grow as a player and next time they will have learned from their mistake.

You can also look at the cursor that is in UO. In tram its a gold color, and in fel its silver.

They need to fix the passages so if your grey or flagged you cannot run through them.

Having made use of that passage, I can confirm the Felucca sould effect does, indeed, sound even with music set to Off.

While I'd certainly recognise the Felucca sound effect, it's safe to say that not everyone else necessarily would.

@ OP It's a harsh lesson, and although we've all had plenty of those, sadly it seems some were only too willing to dish out the worst of what Felucca offers.

Such an experience is unlikely to convince the victim that there really are some other rather wonderful elements in the playstyle of the original facet.

I agree, there should be a warning gump for those who do not wish to participate in non-consensual pvp.

Have you seen other games besides UO? Just walking by my kids consoles, I can tell ya, the violence and gore in UO has to rank somewhere way down there past 100!

Geeez, walking by the displays at Walmart and Gamestop gives ya more violence than ya get outta UO in a month...

Anyway, herein lies the problem with our world.
A "true" pvp'er, I respect for what they do and the skills they have. Player vs Player, like one guy said, the AI devs can't code :) It's done for the thrill of the fight, the contest, as much as for the victory. IT's done to protect turf (player run towns, meeting areas, spawns, strongholds, sigils, etc) and usually has some (might be hard to find) rp reasoning behind it, as noted above.

the PK'er on the other hand, is nothing more than a backstabber, a coward, the kind you find hiding in those dark alleys the poster above mentioned ;) who's only concern is getting a kill and loot, and he cares nothing about the fight, contest, right/wrong, his only ambition is the total domination of his victim, and his own safety.

So don't lump all pvp'ers in the same category, there are a lot of respectable and admirable pvpers out there, it's the small minority, as always, that's gives the group a black eye.

    [/rant] [/opinion]

Many of the responses to this thread are excellent examples of why the warning was necessary. Not everyone wants to be exposed to the mentality that my gameplay experience is only good if others' experiences aren't.

The reactions have really been quite amusing.

Yes I think demanding your money back for the expansion on the basis of one incident is over-reacting! But, there's two real points here. One, the system should work a certain way, and it doesn't. Something is allowed to happen that is against the rules of the game as we currently know them. Two, name me one other way to get into Felucca that does not have the warning gump. The warning gump is, as others have pointed out, UO's version of the "PvP challenge switch" that other games have. My sympathy for you goes down somewhat if you go through that and yet still complain.

But when you wind up in there by accident? Not everyone wants that, which is why the "switch" exists.

I'd like to offer my thanks, though, to the many Fellies who have replied to show us what Felucca is actually about.

    -Galen's player

  39. Sneaky Que There was trickery and misplaced trust to be sure, BUT there was to be a warning put in place that was over looked and thus falls on someone. Also why are all the gates in SA RED? That in itself is misleading. These gates should never be red unless going into Fel. If the portal-cave were shining RED then that could be a BIG indicator.

    It's a GAME Sneaky...not Real Life.

    Draw the distinction.

I don't go down Dark Alleys in Real Life.

I also don't pay $30 to go down a Dark Alley. I DID pay $30 for this expansion, which clearly stated a Gump would come up, when entering the Non-Consensual PvP Areas. That didn't happen for the Gankee.

The PKs abused a Game Mechanic, with a Blue Decoy ( A GUMP should have come up, Sneaky...even Draconi said it SHOULD...it didn't...and they knew it wouldn't come up, I am betting.

I have an idea...you could start a really neat new Niche Game.

    It can be called:

    Escape teh Gank!

    I can see your ads:

    YAY!

Yes...utter Gratification...it's what we all need...that and the Community that says you CAN trust a stranger.

After all...we are all strangers at some point, right?

It is those that reach out a hand, and grabs the other fellow's hand, and pulls them aboard that builds community. Not those that pretend to offer to help someone,, and then right when they trust enough to grab hold, the "Community Builder" and "Lesson Teacher" let go...and then laugh at the poor sap that thought the extended hand was actually someone trying to help them.

I guess you haven't quite figured that part out, though. Not yet.

    There's always hope.

    Hopefully.

For the good of the game, we need everyone and all types of players tho. And even tho I don't pvp, I still try to maintain some neutrality. Like I said, I've known some great pvp'ers who were great guys! For instance:

Thinking about opening a vendor house at Yew gate...sounds crazy for a non-pvp'er, right? So I went to Atlantic, and one other shard, walked out the fel Yew gate to check the vendors there, to see what was being offered for sale. Completely expecting to get my rear handed to me quickly, I just mosied over to the first vendor house, stood at the steps, and scanned the vendors...repeat for all vendors, on both shards. Peeps ran by me, red and blue alike, some paused, probably curious about this blue fool standing on their turf...but no one bothered me at all.

Go back to my own shard, step out the gate to check for house spacing, stayed a bit doing it too...most ignored me yet again, as not worthy of their time and effort. Finally one of our "famous" came by and put an end to my task. It didn't surprise me any, as this was the same char who was rez killing trammies at the healers during the Platinum/Crimson event in Brit Fel.

Point is, once again, there is good and bad in everyone, and in every facet.

Mal had the misfortune to stumble into the back alley muggers, instead of one of the groups that woulda said, come on, we will leave ya alone...

Sorry Mal, I digress and take your thread way offtopic...

  44. Fixed it for ya.

IF the OP had instead walked into the dungeon entrace and been instant killed by something similar to Slasher of Veils I bet there woudln't have been a problem..... Look at it this way... now that you've died 1x to some pvper's that memory is apparently permanently imprinted on your brain & you'll NEVER make the same silly mistake again.. (and with your oh so nice post being here to be read not many others will either) Now realize that perhaps the time saved by not doing signs & other warnings your saying NEED to be there was instead put into the dye system, or Battle chicken lizards or something and you can go to your happy place....

I mean sheesh.... 1x death... or simply going inside the dungeon 1x to learn that it's FEL ruleset.. it's not game breaking it's simple as pie and works quite fine as is it..... There's 100 other things that didn't go as planned with this expansion and this one's no where near game breaking... I think you've just got a high & mightly opinion on the whole PvP aspect of the game and made this post bc of it.....

You are wrong on so many levels its this mentality that makes the game not fun for people ! you think everyone should play pvp! and some people dont like pvp for whatever there reasons! why cant people except that some want pvp and some dont !

and please before you start on me I have pvped for a long time and choose not to any more because of the gank squads gate sitters and is just not my thing anymore ! I respect your right to play pvp why cant you respect the right of the op and others not to?
there should be some warning system to let them know if they are in a pvp area or not ! this is just crazy there basicly trying to force people into pvp who dont want to (and there doing it by being sly and hiding it) and thats a good way to loose the MAJORITY of players!

One of UO's greatest assets is that it is very lifelike as far as choices go. The difference between UO and RL as far as this situation goes is that in UO if you go down the ally and are murdered it's not really that big a deal. You have the chance to learn from your mistake. That is where the game differs from reality. Apart from that the situation and the way someone should react is eactly the same.

    Smart! :p

Well I DID pay $30 to go down an ally! The entire Abyss looks like a nasty place to go, doesn't it?

It was also stated originally that players would be forced to enter PvP areas in the Abyss to travel through it which is now not the case. Things change and it wouldn't surprise me if the Devs cave in and continue the Trammelization of UO by adding this gump.

Regardless, the gump not coming up is NOT the PKs fault, nor is it of their making. For the moment there IS NO GUMP, so there is no abuse of game mechanics.

Why would I do that? I actually CAN escape a gank in UO already without some gump telling me how.

Exactly right. Trust must be earned, not assumed. It is up to us who we extend our trust to and who we don't.

When did I say that these PKs were "community builders"? LOL. They are ROLLPLAYING MURDERERS! What in gods name do you expect them to do, send you flowers?!?

Maybe you will figure out that some people like to RP the bad guys and that they have every right to.

    Someone stop the trolls! :twak:

The discussion is about : there's no warning when entering PvP side of the Abyss although devs promised there would be one.
