Yeah I know we have been over this a few times here on stratics so I will poll this also just once.

WHY would you introduce ANY item that cannot be refortified? The only thing the cloak or any other item of this nature is good for is decoration totally useless as equipment because it will break in a short amount of time and then thats it you no longer have anything to show for burning it up like that.

Not to mention the cloak can only be earned once per character making it that less common.

I like having stuff that is finite, but not when its low power limited time stuff.

I did not vote, since your poll does not offer choices that are between the two extremes (that are being polled). I prefer that there is some limit to the POF usage on items, so that the repair aspects of the crafting skills is still useful. I have never used POFs to repair an item (i do use them to raise its oroginal durability). I cannot remember the last time an item broke on me during repair. I cannot recall an item ever breaking when I used a repair contract either.

    ...

I think things should be powderable, but I will always believe that Powder should have a finite number of times it can be applied to a single item.

sounds like you are confusing reapir deeds with powder of fortification.
powder doesn't repair a item, it just boost's the durability of a item.
say a item has 100 durability, use powder on it and you can get a max durability of 225... but that doesn't meen it repairs the item. you still have to repair the item to reach the full 225 max.
and often times when you repair you loose durability.

so that suit you paid 20 mil for with only 36 durability on each piece sure won't last long unless we have powder of fortification..

best thing they have ever added too.

Playing games tho with stuff that over time does fade away or gets beaten to dust adds a little flavor to thy game.

For example. You have your favorite suit. You use it often. Heck why upgrade it its the best in the west. It can take out any monster in 3 seconds and its one heck of a pvp machine. You can take out 4 people attack ya at once. Why should I go back out there and do peerless and doom and the other dungeons when I have this uber suit on. I can make tons of gold in one night doing champs after champs etc etc....We all know players like this. heck some of us are players like this. :p

Now lets add in that in a month times it wil go to dust. THis is a scary thought. I love my suit but now I have to prepare for it to go to dust. So I start collecting stuff. The problem is the timer starts on that weapons/suit as soon as I pick it back up.

Now this adds a problem we would all have to face.

This would bring in Black smithers and tailors back into the game. For everyone wants the best suit out there to pvp or pvm etc etc. You need both of these crafts to try and make the best out there.

More gold would be dropped into finding that best suit again. Ok I can try and spend 5 hours making this suit or just buy it for say 50K.

More doom/peerless hunts. Etc etc. Hey you need those arties to pvp and pvm. More people doing doom. then going off to do champs. Rinse and repeat.

now the downside tho. Cheats would be flying thru the roof. Everyone would sooner or later learn to dupe things to get that extra gold or to learn how to make that uber armor. Thats the downside.

If UO had stuff that decayed in time. That would be great. Bring more exictment to thy game. But they would have to fist find a way to kill the dupers first before trying this function and thats not going to happen any time soon.

On one hand alot of people are going to say this stinks. Why? they have that uber suit they worked hard for and dont want to in a months time go out there and try and hunt for it again. They want to be able to control the server by rulling the champs spawns.

On the other hand....How many nerfed and wasted skills do we have? heck how many memories do we have of this game that are all long gone from POF and repair deeds? How about all the role playing and all the talking we did while doing black smithying or tailoring...Or the group doom hunts. Isnt this game about role playing?

I am not confusing repairing an item with POF. POF can be used to essentially repair any lost durability an item has occured. For instance, if I have a katana with 30 of 50 (30/50) durability, I can use two charges from a POF to bring the katana to 50 of 70 (50/70) durability, thus regaining the lost 20 points of durability. The katana is not repaired in full, but does have its original 50 points of durability. However, this can only be done until the item reaches 255 durability (max item durability). Once it has reached XXX/255, this will not work. POFs used in this manner delay the need for repair.

Once the item is repaired (using a deed or appropriate skill) it will most likely lose so of its maximum durability (this is dependant on the current durability of the item versus its maximum; if I recall correctly the less damaged = better). So when the POFed katana is repaired it will not be 70/70 durability, it will be 69/69 durability. If the katana's maximum durability had been 255, it would have repaired to 254/254 durability (a POF can be used to restore the katana to 255/255 at this point). Even though the POF gives 10/10 durability increase to the item, the durability cannot be raised above the cap of 255.

I see where you thought I was confusing POF usage and item repair. I hope this cleared things up. I agree with you that POFs are one of the best additions that have been made to this game.
