Why the heck can't we get all our items to face North and West? Especially those in the King's Collection, Gothic Theme, and Rustic Theme? I mean I don't get why not! Upholstered chairs at MINIMUM should face all ways!

And while you are at it, TOILETS --- facing all ways should be added. :D

New stuff- beats me, desire to keep art time down? Old stuff- because there are no art assets for that direction.

Possibly which makes me wonder, will Broadsword have more time to devote to such things in the future.

Who knows. If that is the reason, not that they just didn't like how it looked, its probably not a good one. Since really only chairs need to face those directions I hardly think one extra art asset for each new chair would have a noticeable time requirement.

I believe it was on the HUGE list of things I told Mesanna needed to be addressed and put on the art guys "to do" list. I basically went thru every crafting menu in the game and pointed out the "flaws" in the art that needed help.... I also went thru all the housing tiles and tried to point out the missing tiles that needed to be added there.

Way back in time I asked a question of a dev about the throne's only having 2 facings when other chairs had all 4.
I was told the throne was deemed to only need the 2 facings but there is art in the archive for a 4 way version.
But no plans to add that to the game.
Soon after the dev team changed hands and more furnature came in game with the very same problem.
Again the Dev of that day skirted it and changed the subject...
Each team that has come in has reasons for not adding that other 2 directions to furnature and deeds of furnature.
Now if memory serves me right I was reading a post by said dev team people that the Art was rather easy for new items they have been creating... so how about that 4 way turn ?

I gave up apparently we are only supposed to use the north and West sides of our UO homes and the South and East sides are supposed to be empty.

I would love to have the book shelf, wooden bookcase, acacdemic bookshelf, etc be able to face all 4 directions... looks really strange when you have a bookshelf facing into the wall. :p

Oh I totally agree... and it looks equally stupid to have your fireplace facing the wall. I honestly don't understand why we can't have things face more than 2 directions.... but then there are even many items that only face ONE direction... I've already run out of wall space facing those 2 directions long ago.. but the South East sides of my houses look pretty silly or are sparsely decorated since really there isn't much I can put there. IT also looks stupid to have 2 different kinds of furniture on the South and East because I can't make a couch grouping with people FACING one another. I'm sure my character has some serious neck strain from always having to look to the side when talking to people. It's a good thing he's a dark elf and typically avoids looking people in the eye.... especially females. But he certainly is getting some neck issues from always having to crane his neck to speak to folk instead of looking at them head on.

Guess that's why I often deco with the Elven Loveseats since they don't really have a front or back. But sure makes it hard to relax when you can't lean back and take a load off. I imagine it's quite uncomfortable to sit on after you have been out riding around all day it'd be nice to lean back and put your feet up... but suppose that's the price to be paid for needing properly facing seating.

What I love is that I can place a fireplace on the North or West wall but the couch or loveseat I place cannot face them. Warm backs and cold feet :lame:

    ...

That's what's nice about Shards Online... being the UO Isometric view in full 3d allows the camera to be rotated on the horizontal axis which allows all of the directions to be useful.

While I'd love to see this happen with UO, the current size of the Dev Team makes it difficult if not nigh impossible to really put together a REAL, high quality 3d client for the game... and no I'm not talking about the old 3d client or KR/EC... I'm talking about one done from the ground up that actually gets beyond half-way done before it is shoved out the door.

Good luck with the request... seems they can't find time to upscale existing artwork resolution, but are able to continuously add in new artwork for holidays and an expansion, so I consider myself skeptical on any modifications to existing assets regardless of client.

the plain wooden chairs made by carpenters (the graphic that resembles a ladder back chair) have the ability to face all directions. why can't the property from the chair be applied to all seating? i guess they'd have to create new graphics for each direction too. that might be the only hold up.

Most chairs face all directions with a few exceptions... the new stuffed chair... and The Throne style chair that I always liked... These only face South and East. Many other items only have the 2 facings. But as a general rule single chairs face all 4. Why the others don't and why the new couches don't I'll give you the "simplest" answer...

LAZY Dev's who don't feel they can take the "time" to make 4 facings... and the only other logical explanation would be incompetent artists who can't seem to create art in the other two directions. It's either that or they simply don't care. 2 is "good enough" because they don't play UO what do they care how we use the items we ought to be happy we get them at all.

Now I'm not saying any of that is true and maybe there is another reason... but I'm pretty sure that I hit the nail on the head with one of those. But it's been my opinion that for a great long time "half-a$$" jobs have been the norm at UO. Take the High Seas we'll start there... Awesome concept..... thrown out the door so quick it was so completely buggy that many players were OUTRAGED by having spent money on it. Having lost massive investments in boats and other things several times due to the buggy nature of the expansion. Then we will look at the Gothic and Rustic Themed items.... also thrust out the door at warp speed to "cash grab" from us. A total half-a$$ job IMO.... lacking doors, floors and roofing tiles to "match" the sets.... I find them utterly worthless. I was so outraged over them I've boycotted buying them on any more than 1 of my accounts. I still refuse to purchase them until they are properly "finished". The Shadow and Crystal tile sets at least came with floors, doors and roofing.

I always say it's a matter of professionalism. Taking pride in ones work and knowing you did the best job possible. My guess is that's a lost art.
