I play on LA and recently redid my vendor house to make it so that players could simply run up to the side of my house and browse vendors....however I am considering redoing it so that players will actually have to come up onto the property to shop, dropping runes by the house sign instead of street. I live on the West side of Zento btw.

Do you all find it entertaining or annoying to shop through house sign or to talk up on a house to get to vendors?

depends on how decorated and/or cluttered the enviroment in the house is.

are the vendors easily identified within the enviroment?
meaning do the blend into the decor, making it hard to click on them

do i have to run all over the house to find them?
this one in particular draws me away from houses. although the home owner might find it quaint to have vendors in a room designed around what the vendor sells, its annoying to run all around and find them.
front or side doesnt matter as long as i can click on them and they are labeled whats actually inside, not a tag like: Uber Lewtz!! then you look inside and its strectched hides and lvl 1 arties from Doom.

I was def worried about whether vendors INSIDE a shop would survive. But as it turns out, keeping the piddley stuff like plants, regs, arrows, misc stuff thats handy (1k to 150k)...inside, wasn't that big a deal...the rares buyers wander by, looking at my outside big ticket vendors, those who want the regs or the little stuff come inside for a deal.

  4. Definitely player shopping in UO has always been a nightmare until you find a select few shops, then they`re all you need usually. Thats why I got involved in the 'Vendor Ring' on Europa, to try and build up a collection of shops that are always stocked and a breeze to shop in.

Over my time shopping and looking at other player run establishments, a few key things (to me) make for a better experience, and therefore more profitable shop.

    1) - Name all the vendors (as the example above, and also dont label them with the date they were restocked!) Regs vendor should be called Reagents, etc
    2) - Vendors all on one level if possible and visible from outside.
    3) - Tables in front of the vendor with a sample of whats contained is a nice touch
    4) - No Empty bags!
    5) - Whilst single gold coins may look pretty, they just get in the way mostly
    6) - Colour and label the vendors bags (dont use black)
    7) - Dont be greedy...price your wares accordingly, not just what you'd ideally like to get. This inflates the economy beyond measure.
    8) - Build relationships with other shop owners, maybe you can fill in the gaps in each others inventory, and cross trade runes.

A good example, I've recently returned and have been looking for a soulforge. After visiting about 20 shops and clicking on hundreds of vendors....I nearly quit again.

    Just my 2 cents :)

personally neither of those bother me. what does bug ? most people explain what each vendor has on the vendor name/title; Janet - Cheap Ingots. but some don't and there is nothing more annoying than seeing a vendor with bags within bags within bags that are unlabeled. when i see that i don't even bother looking further.

Well thank you all for the input.
I've been running my shop off and on for 6 yrs or so, and I do my best to restock and label correctly, I love shopping and those things annoy me too.
I just didn't want to waste time making my shop look nice if people aren't even going to step foot on it.
Redid the design yesterday so we will see how it goes ;)

I prefer shops when I can ride in on first floor and do the "vendor browse" method. If I have to click on every vendor, or have to go pixel hunting to find them, I am less likely to return or to check out all vendors.

I`m a shop addict, before this a shop owner - so I am rather picky.

My two cents...I want vendors that have what they advertise, one way or the other. If it's an inscription guy, I was scrolls/regs/etc. every visit. I don't really care if it's on the outside, or if I have to go in. The only thing I really care about is if it is cleaned out on my fourth visit, and I have to go searching for what I want elsewhere.
