I've been playing uo for years now, I have to say there are certain things I really miss.......

    Bounty/Wanted sign
Cutting up corpses and taking heads
Spells based on the balance of stats (mind blast)
Full looting of pvm corpses in fell
    Texas ruleset for houses
Reds being wacked in towns except buccs

Wouldnt it be really nice just to have a few of these things back in the game......the first two would be a start.

  2. Why yes, yes it would.

The Official Classic Shard thread reincarnated.

I miss cutting up bodies. However if I remember correctly that was one thing they had to "cut" out of the game to get the rating of T.

But hell yeah for the bounty system returning if they can pull it off!

  7. If they brought back the bounty system, I would do my best to be on it!

Sadly, I think it was purely down to the ratings system. Let's be honest about it though, they would have been better going for a "M" (mature) rating.

Mind you, just looking at the back of a Company of Heroes box I happen to have in my hands, it's rated 15 and contains the following message:

"Contains strong language and moderate wartime horror."

Ok, on that assumption and given that under certain conditions, little pixel people in CoH are regularly dismembered (by explosions), along with the "strong language", what teen age group does the T for "teen" cover for UO over there in the States? Thirteen maximum?

Is dismemberment of pixels really such a big problem? Certainly never gave me the urge to head out and dismember people in real life... But then again, watching American Psycho didn't give me the urge to wear plastic covers, wield and axe and kill someone to the music of Huey Lewis and the News...

There's entirely no consistency with the ratings systems around the world, let alone in a single country.

On a lighter note, that just made me think of "8 Heads in a Duffel Bag" with Joe Pesci. The scene where the heads start singing Mr Sandman. Classic!

The bounty system was not fuctional. If you had a high bounty, log off outside your house, log on to a blue character, kill your red, behead and cash in, or have a friend do it.

It would be somewhat functional under perma statloss, but thats not going to happen..

I may be perpetuating an urban myth since I don't have first hand knowledge, but I think the bounty system was removed because depicting realistic human dismemberment in video games is illegal in part of the EU.

Since UO isn't sold in stores in North America anymore, I don't think the ESRB rating matters.

If this is not the case, I think being able to dismember player corpses would be a fun feature regardless of whether there was a bounty system. Purely a bragging rights sort of thing.

Well, it's hardly "realistic" is it now. Well, unless you use a cinema size screen and can see those "pixels" in all their "gory detail". Or you could just... you know... squint a bit...

With most ratings systems, toward the younger end of the scale it becomes less about whether it's explicit/graphic or realistic/stylised depictions of whatever, and more to do with the concepts introduced.

Human corpse mutilation and human cannibalism tend to be frowned upon across the entire spectrum of age and in most cultures, for whatever reason. Plus they are specific acts so they are particularly easy targets for censorship.

Of course the dead don't give a damn if you stick them in a blender and make soylent smoothies. Only the living attach some significance to worldly remains, even (especially?) the ones who believe the best part of the person has already left said remains and gone on to greater glory.

Anyhow, all these rules are to keep little Timmy's parents from suing EA when he invariably decides to attach fireworks to the cat, or to push his little sister in front of a car, or to shoot his ex in the crotch, or whatever else he was going to do anyway because some people just do bad things, and this is why we write stories or make games about it, so we can explore these awful things in a harmless setting and deal with the fact we're all pretty much like Timmy in some way or another.

Is gold worth that much now?
Best thing of bounties were bragging rights.

For me it meant they had lots o healers and a good internet connection :p

Mind you, there's still dismembered body parts in the game. Loot zombies, you can collect all the "bits".

So in effect, they haven't removed dismembered parts from the game, they've just stopped players doing it to other players bodies.

I just think the ratings systems are petty and never consistent.

Zombies are depicted as mindless, shambling undead so unfortunately they're regarded a "free kill", no qualms raised. That's because people get all hung up on the conventional terms of living, and tend to forget the whole un part of undead.

The paladin's mantra of "putting it out of its misery" is a lie, if you get to know them, as is the "it was already dead anyway" excuse. If it was dead you wouldn't have been able to kill it, hero.

Nah. I can't read German so am unable to provide a citation.

If the removal is related to product placement on store shelves for games with a Mature rating from the ESRB, then I hope the bounty makes a return as we don't seem to have that "problem" any more.
