How is it that Humans and Klingons can have children?

Klingons have a completely different anatomy, with 8 chambered hearts, and redundant organs... including a different brain. How do the two species manage to breed?

    Help me!

In Star Trek :TNG, didn't Warf have a son with a woman who was half human/ half clingon?

Also, didn't Warf explain in one episode that clingons were not able to "mate" with humans bc humans "could not handle it"?

In Star Trek Voyager B'elanna Torres was half human/half Klingon. Tom Paris (Human) and B'elanna had a little girl as well which would be 1/4 Klingon.

The above statement is correct, in TNG Worf had a child with a half human/half Klingon named K'Ehleyr. His son's name was Alexander and was therefor 3/4 Klingon. Alexander also appeared in DS9.

Side Note: Although I fully admit to being dork, I should point out I know the above information due to my wife. When we got together she insisted I watch all of the Star Trek series start to finish, something she had already done 3 times. Of course I really got in to them. The rest his history.

    Even scarier, we spawned:

What a great family pic! :)

I shall one up the geekiness factor though, and add this clarifying dialog from the episode The Emissary:

TROI: "I didn't know it was possible for a human and a Klingon to produce a child."

K'EHLEYR: "Actually, the DNA is compatible - with a fair amount of help."

Aww fellah you hold on to that girl and don't let go! Oddly enough, pretty much every girl I know LOVES TNG, because they all want a slice of Picard's sex fritter. And who can blame them?

But getting back to the matter at hand, yes K'Ehleyr is the first introduced "Klingman" in the show, but they sort of forgot about that during the season 5 episode (which was on the disc I just netflixed) in which Worf gets his back broken. The whole episode they were marveling about the commanders innards, and I though to myself...how on earth do these two species come together to make a functional being?

I knew the internet was the right place to turn with my pondering.

Not that they are unable to mate, just that he has to be careful with human women because they're so fragile compared to klingon women, heh...

I thought you Borg just shot in some black goo anyone and turned them into robots. Do the Borg turn plants and Animals in to robots too? and what about the fish. Kirk had to get whales in the future for the Whale ship that was going to blow up the earth.

Biologically even if they could mate, the offspring would be sterile. Think Liger.

It also depends on DNA and chromosome pairs. Maybe in the future they can splice DNA with no problems? Ever notice most species in ST/TNS/D9 are bipedal humanoids for the most part? Perhaps they use Panspermia to explain it all?

I like the show(s), but I'm not a super ST geek. Therefore I don't know all the back story details.

I like Warf I think he is cool, but I shudder to think how hairy the offspring...*might* be !! Perhaps it would be better to mind meld with Spoc for offspring.

    LOL

    Just sayin'

Well Worf does has a kid (Alexander), and with a half human/half Klingon fox, who initiated the question to start with.

Actually, in one of the episodes it was explained why all of the alien species are bipedal humanoids- I can't really remember enough to explain it, but it is basically bc they all come from the same.... DNA or some kind of material like that. Maybe one of the other trekkies can explain it in further detail.

Assimilating a fish isn't exactly bringing the Borg closer to perfection, which is what they seek. Now...maybe an advanced species that are closely related to fish would do...

A long gone alien species had developed the technology to explore space and sought out new lifeforms and new civilizations, kinda like StarFleet does...Only, unlike StarFleet, this ancient species found no one, just the loneliness of empty space. So they fertilized the oceans of planets with their dna, which allowed the evolution of all sorts of species...humans, romulans, etc...It's from the episode with Picard's old archaeology professor.

When the take over a plant and turn it in the the Borg land do they kill all the animals and plants? Do they still have to eat or do the just run on electricity.
