The GF hasnt been anywhere except texas, and we were going to a wedding in the dominican in april. But the wedding was cancled (cheating *****! [had to throw that in]), she really wants to go down south somewhere. We dont care where. She wants a decent resort (im looking for 4* or better). We are gonna go last minute, or well start looking and book any time now. Our dates are april 2nd to the 16th (cant be any later then home on the 23rd, cause its Noahs 1st bday on 24th, and we are not missing that.

So anyone got suggestions for resorts to look at and find deals on? We dont care where, Mexico, Dominican, Cuba, Bahamas, Jamacia, whatever.

Oh, and so its somewhat on topic, we would want a trammy resort, I dont wanna be PKed between the bar and the room. :)

  2. Id stay out of Mexico then.I hate to hear that your body was melted down with acid.

hehe, i went to mexico last year, as long as you stay on the main part of town, dont stay all night, and dont go to certain places, its OK. But you have to be careful there, id say more then some of the others. Id go back to the same resort I was at, as sherry was prego, so I left her at home. But the beach sucked. it was man made, and it rocky in the water, and took forever to get over my head. way out past the safety ropes.

Vegas is great, even if you don't gamble or anything.

Spent my honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta last summer. Beautiful place, nice and safe not nearly as dangerous as east coast party towns like Cancun or Cozumel. Dreams Resort is where we stayed for about 10 days. All inclusive for about $3000 including airfare. Think I caught a hella deal though, as I've looked recently and not found a price like that. Ive got some pics if you're interested in seeing what the town and resort looks like.

I have to agree with Kelmo on this, at least out of my experience (Mexico/Haiti/Dominican/Hawaii/east coast) Hawaii would be the best place.

British virgin islands is excellent. Island of Tortolla and virgin gorda and the rest. There's a tiny resort on the north side of Tortolla, excellent beach and very, very quiet. Don't remember the name of it, but it's only ~2 miles from the airport- so very convenient.

Otherwise, there's lots of good resorts on those islands.

IF you go to the US virgin islands, like St John - it's probably more expensive, but you don't need to go through customs and immigration - might not even need a passport.

My husband & I spent our honeymoon in St. Thomas. It was gorgeous and the drinks of rum relatively cheap. Guys with machettes climbing a coconut tree to chop of fresh coconut for our pina colodas was a nice touch.

Food on the otherhand was very pricey in St. Thomas, though.

I will forwarn ye no matter where you two decide to go for honeymoon if tropical, BRING Sunscreen sunblockers, cuz um nothing ruins a honey moon more than um...not being able to even touch your new husband, cuz he being a blondy is red as a cooked lobster in pain from sunburn. :)

Kinda defeats the *purpose* of um consumating the relationship, or even havin fun in ye wedding bed, when one of ye is burnt to a crisp by noon on day one of ye vacation honeymoon !

    ah memories lol

    just sayin.......... :)

If you have that much time, my suggestion would be Hawaii. Planning this trip with anything less than two weeks, youll be sorry. Two weeks is great, three is even better!

Plan 1 day for travel and 1 back. The flight is 5 hours from the west coast, even more if you're from any other part of the US. Hit Oahu first, since thats where you'll be landing anyway. Its very touristy and offers the best "nightlife". You won't want to spend more than 3 or 4 days there, but do hit the Polynesian Cultural center, the Pearl Harbor Tour and the Punchbowl tour, which hits the key points of the city of Honolulu. The Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort, is where we stayed and it was perfect for that island and conveniently located on Waikiki Beach and close to all the touristy stuff. Hit the north shore if you can... Big waves and nice surfing, but I wouldn't try it there! heh Save the all inclusive resorts for the smaller islands.

A word of advice about planning the touristy stuff: Plan it yourself! Tour guides tend to put you on a strict itenerary, which doesn't allow for things you'll find that you want to do once you get there. Makes it very difficult to get to the beach or find time to relax. Always hit the tourist desk at each hotel/resort as soon as you get there so you can plan what you want to do.

I would suggest hitting as many islands as possible... Oahu, the big island of Hawaii, Kuai and Maui are the key ones to hit. If you want to pick only two, Oahu and Maui or Oahu and Hawaii are my suggestions, but here is the breakdown for each.

Oahu - Very touristy, lots of attractions and Nightlife. Polynesian Cultural Center, Pearl Harbor Tour, Punchbowl Tour, Honolulu Zoo, Marketplace, very crowded Waikiki Beach. If you're a first-timer, these are all fun and worth hitting. The hotel I mentioned above is located on Waikiki Beach and we had a great view. That beach is worth visiting, but you'll be visiting much nicer, less crowded beaches if you visit other islands.

Hawaii - [The Big Island] Black Sand Beach, Kilauea Volcano, Volcanoes National Park, Helicopter Tours [Available on all islands, but recommend big island] A lot of the coastline is very rugged and rocky, but there are some nice beaches. Royal Kona Resort is where we stayed. Watching the Manta Rays swimming around at night beneath our balcony was incredible!

Kauai - Recommend all inclusive resort. Very slow pace on this island. There are a few tours available, but the entire island has a country, small town feel to it. Really nice beaches, most are sort of secluded and not crowded. Can't remember the name of the place we stayed, but it was nice. Blue Hawaii was filmed near there, but the name escapes me.

Maui - Recommend all inclusive resort. Fairly slow paced, but much more to do here. Attractions include Ka'eleku Caverns, Tedeschi Vineyard & Winery, Maui Ocean Center. We also took scuba lessons [with guided dive], did some snorkling, rented scooters and did some touring on our own. The Westin Maui Resort & Spa is where we stayed.

We were pleased with all the hotels/resorts mentioned.

Also... You can get by on just about any island without a car rental. On Oahu, use public transportation or walk to shop. Taxi's are helpful and if you'd like to rent a van for a couple of hours just to hit the high points of the city on your own, leave word at the tourist desk that you are looking to split the fee's with another group and leave contact numbers.

Where ever you end up vacationing, enjoy your trip!

PS... I've been there 3 times. Sorry for the lengthy post! lol

If money is not an object, then you certainly don't need Stratics Forums advice do ya? Otherwise you can always check out Cruise Lines. You can practically sail around the world for $100.00 now, but there IS that whole risk of Cholera !!

Its not our honeymoon, we are not married yet. And money isnt an object, but I dont wanna waste it. Im just curious from other travellers as to where is nice to go, and what resorts. I can look at touched up, perfect day photos of resorts online for weeks. Doesnt mean anything IMO.

Last year I went to the Bluebay Grand Esmerelda Resort. Was really nice, however you couldnt tell from the photos, that once you were in the ocean, the ocean floor was shallow (way out past the ropes to go over your head), and and very rocky. The beach looks super nice in the photos. Wicked resort, nice beach, but once your in the water, it sucked.

I already know where we are going on our honeymoon when we get married. Bora Bora!

Here are a couple pics. The resort had staff members raking the beaches daily by 4:30 AM so there wasnt a pebble or (much to the disappointment of my wife) a seashell to be found. The sand was super fine almost like getting a free pedicure as you walked the beach and there were almost no rocks to speak of in the water. I'm 6'4 and the water was over my head by the time you got about 50-60 feet out. All beaches in Mexico are by law public, but the only access to this beach is through the resorts entrance, (the beach is blocked off on both ends by rock faces and jungle) so it is practically private though they do allow a very small select few vendors on the beach each day. They are not pushy though and are very receptive to a polite no thank you.

I know you said a Trammy vacation, but if you ever fancy a Fel vacation come further South and spend some time in Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. You will have more excitement in a day than in a week in Hawaii, a bit like the difference between Siege and prodo.
