OT: Who has randomly met famous people?

Discussion in 'UO Siege Perilous' started by Sweeney, Apr 2, 2009.

Just curious. I met Ron Jeremy in an airport last week, my first celebrity close-encounter. Not too great of a sighting, but hey it's my first.

I once read that everyone has known/meets about two famous people in their lives. Wondering if this is true.

I used to work in a high end clothing store in the uk as such met quite a few (most you guys probs never heard of though)

    John Terry
    Rio Ferdinand
    Frank Lampard
    Cheryl Cole
    Nadine Coyle
+(the ginger one from girls aloud)
    Emma Bunton
    Victoria Beckham
    Jodie Marsh

Oh and when i went to US i met Samuel L Jackson!!!

I've met several video game people, including Jay Wilbur, Tim Sweeny, Peter Molyneux and Richard Garriot :)

This was back in the mid to late 90's.

  5. Sweeney

    Sweeney Guest

Only computer/internet nerds would know these names.. I mean TV/Movie/Music stars (but it is neat you met Richard Garriot).

  6. Kiwillian

    Kiwillian Guest

    well, ffffffffffffffffffffff. :(

But yes I guess Richard Garriot counts. He had his stereotypical puffy white shirt and black waistcoat on too lol :) (It was at E3, another videogame nerd thing, I guess).

    Sweeney Guest

Blech I meant random encounters.. not seeing someone on a stage or planned appearance or paparazzi stuff. No stalking involved!

(Places where you were close enough to say "Hi" and have them respond).

In my case I was waiting for my brother to step off a plane and Ron Jeremy and his 3-person posse (kind of sad in my opinion) walked less than 5 feet in front of me.

  8. Kiwillian

    Kiwillian Guest

Um, E3 was all booths/stands and you could freely wander up and talk to people.

It's not like that now though.

  9. Sweeney

    Sweeney Guest

I'm not knocking that.. but like I said, random encounters. It's one thing to go to an event expecting to see/meet people.. quite another for a completely random, 'I wasn't expecting this' encounter.

    [edit] changed thread title [/edit]

Well ok, if having some one pass you unnoticed at 3 meters distance counts as meeting, then fine. :(

This one was in airport- plane lands, and first person through door was muhammud ali! He was recognized by me- and I saw the pleasure in his eyes that he WAS still immediately recognized. I thought about atuograpgh, and then no, those people MUST all grow so tired of that and are annoyed. Then others saw him, and he was swarmed. He leaned to his assistant and said "pen", and the autographs began.
Now, this one regrets not asking

As a teenager and political activist even then, I went to a place in Ohio where a Senator was speaking to garner votes for an upcoming election to try to become President. He went out of his way to try to pay attention to the kids whom were not yet old enough to vote. To have him deliberately walk up to me and shake my hand will be life time memorable for me...cuz he shook my hand and spoke for a few moments to me. I asked him...if one day teenagers whom can DIE for USA in assorted wars for our country at 18, would ever get to vote at 18..the right to vote was 21 back then. Little did we know then that man would be assassinated. His name then was Senator John F. Kennedy. . random not cuz of where I went to try to meet him...random that he shook my hand a puny nobody teenager that just wanted our right to VOTE and he spoke to me shook my hand. I will never forget it.

Random phone meeting.. when I worked for Braniff International Airlines in Dallas, reservations, whom expects to have yet another Senator...calling in for a flight. It blew me away...omg this guy flys public airlines not private jet...his name Senator Everett Dirkson.

Met Senator Trent Lott here in Mississippi at a fund raiser. . had lunch with him well we all did...but hey anytime in a crowd a Senator shakes YOUR hand ...ya kinda think wow. . esp. if you are political in nature.

Met Morgan Freeman at the airport here...he was flying out on a NWA flight and so was I. :) Very polite albeit brief encounter. I do me best not to go apesh** when I run into famous folks try to treat em like normal peeps and do not bug em for autographs but...some times ya just have to at least say...I love your acting or something, which I did that time.

Last encounter, few years back, stayed at a hotel for a concert I had bought tickets for myself and two daughters to attend this concert for a gift for us all, our spring birthdays and the youngest's college graduation gift.

Lemme tell ya...............one will never forget accidently meeting Steve Tyler in.........an elevator...and all ya think of is that Aerosmith song...* love in the elevator* hahaha BUT I promised my hubby I would BEHAVE up there. LOL JUST IRONIC as hell to run into Steve Tyler ...in a hotel elevator at a hotel I was splurgin to stay at up there $$$$ but I only rented ONE room he rented two floors of em in that hotel. LOL

My wife and I took our horses to a place that has cabins that you can stay in and board your horses at. While we were there, eating at a restaurant on the property, Lance Armstrong came in. He was checking out some of the Tennessee Walking horses that the land owners had. We got pictures taken with him. Really nice guy, not cocky at all.

I walked into my gym about a year and a half ago and Tito Ortiz was rolling with my trainer...that was cool. Also came in after being in WI for a month and Greg Jackson came down to do a seminar, also met Kim Couture. Michael Rosenbaum also comes back to my town every year for a wiffle ball tournament(he graduated from a local HS) so I have seen him a once.

I randomly met Bob Seger about 10 years ago while shopping at a clothing store. Nice guy. I also sat next to an actress on an airplane a while back. Sad part is that I can't remember her name. She was the tall blonde lady on the t.v. show Third Rock From the Sun.

I saw Magic Johnson in the airport in LA and somehow I said "Micheal Jackson" as I walked past him. Don't think he was happy about that. It just came out somehow.
I saw Willie Nelson coming out of a concert in Hilo, HI and shouted out "I saw you in High Times Willie!" He turned and looked, don't think he was happy about the either.
Gotta watch what you say when you meet the famous.

I also ran into the fairly obscure, Epitath Records punk band "Ten Foot Pole" at a Perkins once.

    Bob Dylan - FTW!

Had a parking pass from a person who worked at the venue of a concert two years ago, allowing us to use the back entrance. As we approached the door, he was in front of us, he opened the door for me. I said thanks, he smiled and said thanks for coming to the show.

    Very surreal!

DMX ... (he would be my best "random" meeting)

I was down in Anchorage in December, 2003 for some preparations before our unit mobilized for Operation Iraqi Freedom. DMX had a concert scheduled at a venue in Anchorage but his plane was late and he was unable to perform. To make it right for the fans, he stayed a few days in Anchorage and did several smaller performances at smaller venues that were available last minute.

At any rate, we were busy doing soldier things on Fort Richardson and not really up-to-speed on Anchorage current affairs so we return to the hotel in downtown Anchorage one evening and several blocks of streets are blocked off in preparation for one of these smaller events. My buddy and I go to take the elevator to our rooms and waiting for an elevator is DMX with two of Anchorage's finest "escorts" all gussied up.

I doubt I would have recognized him had he been clean shaven but he was looking scraggly and it didn't quite fit that he had these two girls on his arms given his appearance at the time. We were in uniform and we made small talk with him on the elevator.

Later that evening, I read the newspaper that had been slid under my door that morning and his face is staring at me from the front page discussing the late plane and rescheduled events and such.
