Hello. I've been thinking of parry mage template and this is what ive come to

    120 magery
    120 resist
    110 medit
    120 eval
    120 parry
    110 wrestling

    (700 cap)

    100 str
    110 int
40 dex (will raise up to 80 with crimson + agility potions)

    Items i'm gonna use:

    folded steel (dci 25, 20/10/10/10/10) - faction
    order shield (dci 15, hci 15, 1/0/0/0/0) - faction
    orny (fc 2, fcr 3, mr3, lmc 10, lrc 20, 0/0/0/0/15) - faction
    pendant (mr 3, sdi 5, lmc 10, lrc 30)
    leutenant boots (+2 int)
primer (di 20, hpr 2, hci 10) - faction (should i ditch this to Totem of the Void?)
    crimson (10 dex, 10 hp, hpr 2) - faction
    quiver of infinity

    all this gives me

    50 lrc
    40 dci
    20 lmc
    fc 2
    fcr 3
    sdi 5
    mr 2
    hpr 2

any suggestions? obviously, i need a ring with 3 fcr/sdi which im extremely lacking of.

perhaps someone runs a similar template? if so, can u tell me what gear u're sporting?

I run several parry mage builds.

It's important that you realize a parry mage is not a 1 v 1 template. You will probably never kill another decent player 1 v 1, unless they are an archer/dexer that isn't chugging pots and is too dumb to run away when they get low. The damage output is just not high enough. Parry mages work best as a group. You want at least 3 people playing together and use ventrillo to coordinate your spells on one target.

You will want 120 defensive skill, pretty much non-negotiable. Why put so much points into a parry build to be invincible if you cop out and go with just 110 wrestle? I'd also suggest stacking your DCI to 70 if you can. That makes HLD have no effect and you become even tougher to hit.

For your ring, faction crystalline is your best bet. It will also give you 20 magery so you can go to 120 in your other skills.

There are other parry builds out there than the straight parry. You can sub Wrestling for Anatomy (frees up 20 points), and drop med down to 60 (frees up another 60 points), and drop magery to 100 using crystalline ring for 120 (frees up 20 more points).

With that 100 points you can put them into Ninjitsu for animal form/mirror images when dismounted. You can put it into scribe for more SDI. You can put it into 60 necro/40 spirit for a little necro boost. There are many ways you can go with it.

Hey Rouss. ( your the new player on Europa right?)

lynk's advice is good as allways.

""primer (di 20, hpr 2, hci 10) - faction (should i ditch this to Totem of the Void?)""
A totem of the void will probably work better for you. The only use HCI has is for disarm and you wont hit the HCI cap of 45 anyway.

You can find a better sheild as well. a 15DCI bloodwood sheild is one solid choise. 2HPR from the sheild, 5 from ring, 2 Crimson, 2 void=11HPR.

Skillwise, What Lyck Sugested is a good choise:
100 magery (120 with Crystaline Ring)
    100 Anatomy
    120 Parry
    120 Eval
    120 Resist
    100 Scribe
    60 Meditation
Or 120 across the board and drop Inscribe.

    25 DCI Glasses
    15 DCI AoF
    20 DCI Fey leggings
    5 DCI Quiver
    =
    65 DCI

    Welcome to Europa :)

Oh, forgot about another build I just recently finished.

    Tamer/Parry/Mage.

The trick is to lower med slightly drop resist.

I used to use a dread mare but I lost it when I lost connection while using hotel internet and I died, got home the next day and logged on the dread mare was gone :(.

I've started using a cu sidhe which works pretty well too.

This one is pretty fun for solo play against a group of dexers. They tend to get cocky and you can really catch them off guard when you have them cursed, an exp casted with FS on the way and the dog bites for 40 plus a bleed.

My rule of thumb for the parry mage is never stand still and fight more than 3 times your number in dexers.

The gear is what Zidjin posted. folded steel, aof, fey legs, orny, crystalline, totem of void, fill the rest in with runic pieces. Shield of invuln works fine too.

    Faction arties where available.

Stats, you want to be at 115 HP minimum pre-bless, pre-pot, pre-curse.

Dex, you want to be at a minimum of 80 post-pot, post-curse. With 0 EP greater agilities add 20 to dex. So I usually go for 70 dex prepot (60 plus 10 from faction crimmy), and after a curse I'm still over 80.

Int ideally at 140, but realistically you're looking at 110 (120 if you're lucky with HP inc armor and you can move stat points over). Just remember SDI from intelligence comes in intervals of 10.

hmmm if i go for 60 dex and 110 int this leaves me with like 80 str.. okay this can be manageable if i had some EP on jewels (to chug str pots as well), but it seems orny is more useful here... quite tight..

ur layout, 115 str, 110 int, 60 dex.. hows that possible? u have like 35 mana/hp/dex points on armor?

    total: 37/24/23/18/36, lrc 40, lmc 20, mr 6, fcr 6, fc 2, HP added: 14
    fey: 15/11/10/4/22, dci 20, hpi 6
    aof: 2/4/3/3/4, dci 15, lrc 40
    fsr: 20/10/10/10/10, dci 25, str 8
    crysyalline: hpr 5, mr 3, fcr 3
    orny: fc 2, mr 3, lmc 10, 0/0/0/0/15
    tov: hpr 2, lmc 10

    noone uses pendant?

You dont Really want to use both Pendant and Aof, leaves allmost nothing to resist.
With the above gear you have 60 LRC not 40. It can sometimes be hard to get the right pieces since many ppl are looking for about the same.
Your ideal pieces would be 5hpi, LRC, LMC and two 20+ resist(good luck).
You allso forgot about the faction Crimson, it gives both 10 dex and 10 HPI.

Allso remember that 1 str doesnt give 1 HP, it only works that way up to 100. The formula is (str/2)+50+HPI items.
gorget, sleeves & gloves with 5 HPI each, Crimson, Feyleggings and folded steel = 49 stats/HP.

Its not an easy suit to build tbh. Ask around and ppl might be willing to help ya out.

and btw yeah im registered on the UCH boards. Im the only one active in [UCH] now days :wall:

    Over and out =)

Am starting to pvp again and parry mage seems a gentle way to get into it. I ran a wrestle archer back when it was hard to stay at 140 cursed dex unchugged and still be meddable (i.e. no jackals) and the pugilist gloves helped there and I though lets try wrestle after bow DS was rightly nerfed (fun while it lasted).

Anyway apart from being a pretty hilarious temp to play vs dexers I rarely missed a disarm against anyone. I am pretty sure disarm special has a higher chance to hit but maybe the capped hci is what made it seem so ridiculous.

As mentioned a few times, I'd be inclined to go with anat and skip wrestling.

Now that special moves don't queue up while casting, it is fairly difficult to get a disarm off with wrestling... never mind the hci issue.

I ran a classic parry nox mage for years with wrestling and now I'm considering dropping wrestling for anat. And I will be doing so on my latest mage build(need a mage in factions... just not my old mage because I have a better char on that account for factions;) )

I'm also looking at adding ninja to my latest parry mage build. We will have to see how high my cramming allows me to take it. I think the throwing stars would make a great addition to distraction damage.

Also, as mentioned, this is not really a one versus one or really even a kill shot type template. It is a survival and support template which suits my style fine:loser:

hehehe I know exactly what you mean - I find the "I'm a team player mage" thing generally fails if you are not churning out good damage too I find you are not pulling your weight and you become overwhelmed. I might just give up tbh I don't want to use pets or be a stealther. So I fear those limitations are like playing UO in hard mode.

    *shrug*
TBH, I don't dole out huge amounts of damage but I help in kills a lot more than seems possible: keeping someone poisoned, dropping fields, heals on others, rezzes, etc.

As long as you can stay alive on your own and help out in some little way, you are helping. That is where the parry mage shines.

Sure it isn't the glory kill shot-ing machine... but without us, some of the above average killing machines would be overwhelmed. I've seen what happens when a group turns into "above average" killing machines... they all die to "above average" team playing groups.:coco:

Maybe am basing too much on the 2v2 pwnings I've been enduring

I just finished up some fighting with my parry mage and he worked exceptional with some minor healing.

I had three dexers(one being a dismount tamer:loser: and known hacker) running around trying to dismount and kill me. More often than not, wiff or clang. While I circled around healing with one guy healing me, my guys were doing their thing with the rest of the group that we were fighting.

In the end, I got dismounted once and low life maybe three times. I did no damage to speak of but I kept three "good" dexers occupied while my side did some damage to the rest of their team.

But then again, there are more "dexers" on my shard than their are mages at any given time so my template takes advantage of that.

Funny thing is I took a long break from UO and my template was still good. I did a better job surviving on my parry mage than I did my dismounter who I was real hard to kill on before I stopped using him:loser::coco:

Nice one - aye I've been just practicing vs good mages, have been told dexxers will mostly be less of a challenge.

I wouldn't say less of a challenge... but you certainly won't get lit up if you didn't have parry.

FWIW, I've had the same template for about 6 years now with the only changes being in equipment for the most part:coco: May not be a killing machine but I make a hell of an annoyance/decoy:thumbsup:

I just pvp'd as an archer for years (so in other words I was a no skill noob that got the odd kill in a big group).

    I'm running a template with
    96 Anatomy
    120 Eval
    120 Resist
    106 Magery
    80 Meditation
    120 Parry
    100 Inscription
    Total: 742
Spell Woven Britches for +10 med bonus and Library Talisman - A Grammar of Orcish for +7 anatomy +5 resisting spells

Got 45% DCI and 50% EP on this suit, the only problem is that when playing solo you'll run out of mana pretty damn fast. So basically if you're facing, say 3v1, you have to be able to kill someone with just 1 full dump. Best I've managed to do is killing 2 people 3v1 (3rd one stealthed away).

If I'm fighting a dexer who has both the HLD glasses and HLD weps I'll equip a ring with DCI15% FCR2 EP15% SDI7% & Fire Res 13%. That puts me at 60% DCI which helps alot vs. HLD.

I'd recommend you to join faction, get the faction arties and build your suit around them.

Once SA is published and we'll get to try Imbuing I'm probably gonna play around with a suit so that I'd be able to get EP50% DCI70% AND meditation to GM ;)

Some update.. Found a 0/2 LRC16% EP50% LMC3% Ecru laying around on this account I bought sooo.

LMC 41% LRC 100% MR10 HPI15 DCI 60% EP50% 2/5 69-65-61-67-70. Don't have a sash nor int boots so far. Gonna leave Parry @ GM so I will have 30% block rate with 80 dex (35% w/ 120 parry) and up meditation to GM.
