Bug or something odd and intentional?
Try to attack a guildie with a pet at luna bank.
are yas in a faction?
Yes, we are in factions.
Tamers can not have their pet attack a member of the same faction.
I believe Publish 56 included an unannounced change that makes it impossible to kill a faction mate with your pets or summons. I believe the change was probably made as part of a fix to a player griefing situation that was occuring on Siege, where factions works a little differently than on other shards (i.e., you can lose kill points there for killing a faction mate).
See this old thread from last September for additional details: http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=100955. Also see the Publish 56 notes: http://www.uoherald.com/news/news.php?newsid=454. Look for the line that says, "Faction members in the Hero/Evil system on Siege Perilous and Mugen will no longer be able to grief their teammates by causing them to lose kill-points when auto-defending."
Of course, I'm just guessing here because I have yet to see any of the developers address why this change was made and if it's working as intended on all shards.
I am pretty sure it is a bug. The pet can still defend if attacked.
It doesn't even adress the alleged balance problems caused by Greater dragons. It is instead a source of grief inside a faction and it represents another step into the trammelization of felluca.
Thinking on it further, it may have also been an attempt to keep mages' summons from killing faction mates, particularly if the faction mate is red and not in the same guild/alliance.
I guess we'll never know though.
How is killing a person in your faction..."griefing"?...la
Rico, I think most people who've been in factions will agree that sometimes you just have to kill a faction mate. However, I think some people on Siege were exploiting a unique Evil/Hero rule on Siege and Mugen in order to make characters in the same faction as theirs lose a significant portion of their kill points when their pets auto-defended. I'm not sure exactly how it was done, but the developers thought it was a cheap tactic and they included something in one of the publishes to fix it. They never explained what they did though, and all we really saw was a change that makes it impossible to kill a faction mate with your pets or summons.
yeah... there are those rare instances when you need to. They already make seprate publishes for siege and production... couldn't they of separated these?
Did you try attacking them with it outside of town?
I don't think it's a bug at all. Defend attack is normal. The pet isn't going to sit there and get attacked while doing nothing. You just can't have your pet attack someone of the same faction. So your pet cannot be the aggressor in attacking your own faction.
BTW, this was NOT suppose to be a balance for greater dragons at all. I don't see how having it so you can't attack members of your own faction with pets is trammelization of fel. I don't even see why you would want to sick a pet on your own faction.
Viper, sometimes you do want to attack a member of your own faction! Slimy little schemers infiltrating from another faction and placing all your faction's traps in places no one can find; spies getting into the base to be able to tell their cohorts in another faction who's defending; busy bodies getting in the way or lifting up the gate or other blocking items or just generally being a nuisance; and the list goes on.
Also, what makes no sense at all is that this restriction only applies to pets and summons. You can still attack a member of the same faction directly with spells or weapons. So....why was the restriction put in to only keep you from attacking a faction mate with your pets or your summons? It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I still think it's a half-baked fix to a problem that was only occuring on Siege and Mugen. But I doubt we'll ever get an explanation.
Edited to add: I went back to posts made in November when this was first discovered and it appears that at that time you couldn't attack faction mates with pets/summons in town but you could attack them inside your own base. Don't know if this is still the case. If it is, it makes the change make even less sense. Would really love to know what the thinking behind it was.
