I have some questions regarding the server lag issues introduced since the server changes. I am playing on a really good connection and half of the time I ping really (really) well, Yet I'm constantly having 5-30 minute periods of lag so bad that I can barely move. Yesterday I played for the better part of the day, and I was most definitely in those lag spikes more often than not. I've had to endure a lot of things in the game that didn't necessarily make me happy (being scammed, nerfed, other periods of lag, etc). And not once did I ever threaten to quit the game in a fit of rage. I'm one of those people who don't upset easily. But for the first time, I'm really thinking about quitting for good because of this lag; and honestly, I don't think it's even because I'm angry about it (which I am, I'll admit). I think it's ridiculous how many people pay 15$ a month for an account (even though not all of them actively play), and most people that I know that play actively have at least two accounts, and to think that we can't at least get a decent server? But regardless of how upset I am over it, when it comes down to it, the game is just outright unplayable in it's current state. I used to play dial up during AOS, and even that was better than dealing with this (and believe me, I remember). It's not even just me (although I seem to be getting it worse than most people I know), several times in the past couple of days alone I've seen the entire server freeze up for up to a half a minute, and at least half of those times it meant someone was going to die in game. My questions are, is this going to be something permanent? or are there any plans to fix it? Please do. I really don't want to quit this game, especially over something as stupid as this.

FYI, Mesanna was in general chat on Baja yesterday asking if there was any change in the lag. Looks like the issue is being paid attention to. Those of us that responded to her question mostly said it was better, a few said it was not.

Be happy they are working on it ... this used to happen a LOT and often "back in the day" when you tried to log into UO ..
don't even go into how you placed a house.. the shard went down and reverted.. you logged in to find someone
else had you house spot.. it could be much worse

I understand.. but my point is they are able to address things faster now than before & are trying to do so ..
give them a little bit of time to get it taken care of ..

FYI, I don't see how my traceroute results would apply to the server movement to the "cloud servers." Please elaborate. As I said, I didn't receive these lag spikes until the servers were changed. The day after they were changed was when the lag started hitting.

*Update* Just tried tracing the Atlantic server. Being from NY I figured that would make more sense to do, being there would be less hops.
I also played with the lowerping program which is used to re-route your connection to game servers using different hops, and the "non-spike" improves on west coast shards, but the "spiked lag" is all the same on any and every shard. Not much improvement considering I have an upload speed of 40 mbps, my "non-spike" lag is never an issue to begin with. But whether I play on Pac, GL, LS, Atl, TC, etc. my character moves at a speed of about 2-3 tiles per second. Oh and on any server I test with traceuo, gives relatively the same results with packet losses of 0%

It isn't just Mesanna looking into it. I have been talking to some people too and they are working on a more permanent, stable fix I am told. Look for it maybe next week on uo.com.

The lag on Napa was so bad last night..it made for difficult play...I know Bleak and
Mesanna were checking up on us last week. But once 6pmpst hits..the lag monster
    comes out with a vengeance.

I didn't check UO.com for about a week, so I didn't see the recent updates to the servers to help fix/alleviate the lag, otherwise I would've posted sooner; but I'm still seeing a lot of lag personally. I haven't witnessed any instances where the entire servers have froze up like I was, but then again I haven't had much time to play. I can say with absolute certainty though that I personally am still experiencing the 5-30 minute lag spikes that I described earlier. It's nice to know that the staff is paying attention to this, and I am very grateful that they are attempting to fix this, and I'd like to thank you for your attempts thus far, but please keep trying. Thank You again.

Sorry to say, but the recently published Fix does not seem to be helping. I am still lagging on every shard that I play very hard. The shards that I play are Atl, GL, Pacific, LS, Catskills, Chesapeake, and Europa. I seem to be lagging the most when I'm in Luna or Felucca Yew where there are a lot of houses or people. I also tend to lag harder when people attack me. The more people attacking me/on my screen, the more it freezes; where as if i'm dueling one person in a secluded spot it typically doesn't bother me. I'm not sure if it's the people or the content itself, because I may lag really hard in Yew even if there aren't many people there. It seems like my client has a hard time loading the houses and whatnot. But then again, I also lag hard even if there aren't any houses around. There was a few times where I was fighting a fair number of people in Despise or Terathan Keep with no houses or content around, and I still could barely move. I tend to to not lag much during the day, until about the afternoon. It progressively gets worse from 4-8pm and it stays that way until late into the night. It also seems to be worse on the weekends, I imagine because there's a lot of people on. Restarting my client seems to alleviate the problem, although it could just be that the lag is reducing as it typically does in it's fluctuations. So to reiterate, the factors that seem to affect my lag are: 1) The time of the day and the day of the week 2) The amount of people near me in game 3) Whether or not I'm in combat with those people 4) The amount of houses nearby 5) The last time I restarted my client. Of course, I don't know the source of the lag, so technically all of this is just speculation. But when you run at 40mbps where your character looks like a speeding bullet, and then suddenly; as it gets later in the day, or as soon you start to do certain things, you start moving like a dried up slug, you get an idea.

I've had this thread up for over a month. I've been getting the lag for a few. Something needs to be done about this *now*. Sorry, but my patience is running thin. Either find a fix for the lag, or switch the servers off the cloud servers. This lag should be priority number one, and the current state of the game right now is unacceptable. NO OTHER player base would have put up with this for this long. I've had plenty of patience being such a loyal fan of this game, but even I cannot take it any longer.
