Thanks. I saw a guy possibly falsely accused of popping one at the rares fest on Chessy, and then a short time later someone starting popping them one after another. Lame.

So you can page on the person for griefing?
Maybe the reason your always 99 in the que is because of all the time wasting paging that goes on in this game.
I saw this and thought "omg harbringers are fine the way they are" then i read on, i totally agree, they should announce there summoner
There are other ways of dealing with griefers, if only you know their names. ^^

You've got a crappy attitude towards me but no, I was thinking more like I wouldn't buy any rares from them.
i have to say that the only people that have problems with this are the ones that are using them to disturb a public event... If you are popping a harbinger to kill it, then you wouldn't have a problem with it
can you release them in luna still?

On that same note...why not? I don't bother paging on griefers because it's a waste of time (and we don't see them in fel very often anyways), but if you're going to be a filthbag why not let everybody know who you are?
Player reputation should be a high priority in UO. Yes, you can character transfer or rename, but that goes towards funding the game .
I wish someone would "harass" me with 10+ Harbingers around my house. It's in the mountains North of Luna in the first of the snowy areas.
From my experience its not always people doing it (Winks at Messana).
Some times like tonight at the rares a fest a (boss or heavy mob) spawned right on everyone (not a harbringer but the tok ugly worm one) just after 3 harbringers. If you look closesly you'll see Messana placing and locking down items while everyone is distracted by "mobs" or "harbringers".
I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced them into the game so we never know if its a dev/EM/GM doing the spawn or a player, which i find cool as for once they can **** of scripters by dropping a harbringer without anyone even knowing if it was a dev/gm/em or simply a player

I don't page on griefers either. Normally I just leave the area and do something else. However I think some guy lost a valuable rare orc mask at the rares fest on Great Lakes because someone popped a harbinger. At least if harbingers had the summoner's name attached, the guy would have known who did it. (So now I attend all the festivals with a stealther and remain hidden almost all the time. )
I agree with you 100% that player reputation should be a high priority.
Or just have the summoner turn grey, lose 50K of karma, and gain 25K of fame.
In many areas they'd be quite busy after that.
We poped a Harry one night on my shard in prime time and announced it in General chat that we were going to do one 2 weeks prior to doing it. Well when the night came we once again announced in general chat that we were going to do it. Well about 15 mins after the gate opened up a raiding guild brought in 3 or 4 harbringers. Before the server went down there were at least 10 harbringers down there.
Try defending a harry against the entire shard, killing the harry, and trying to make sure 10 harbringers were not targeting you. It was prolly the most fun I have ever had in game.
Can you even get those things anymore? So won't the problem solve itself by limited availability?
I have 14 of the things stored up.
I am in favor of somthing listing who summoned the mob, especially when they are used to grief.
The most logical 'solution' would be to also disallow them being summoned in a guard zone. Why they allowed an uncontrolled summon to be popped in a guard zone was a boneheaded move...

if you are using the harbinger to harass people, then no you don't want your name known.
if you are doing it to kill him, then what do you care? and why would you spawn it near a large group of people.
If it's in a guard zone, oh idk, call the guards? rolleyes:.
And there is no point in having them changed when they are just gonna die out anyway, I think I have about 10 left personally. Perhaps in the future if something is released like this again, add the name of the summoner to the mob's name, i.e. Harbinger Summoned by "Insert Character Name Here."
A pointless change, Anyone could use a newbie or a stealther, Yes the character name will be visible but if you can't target them the GMs can't do anything.
Sure the incognito would mess with it. Chat and crafting goes by current name (why I find all the hack val hammer made items have no name attached funny) And a load of the childish antics players do on their no famed name characters.
Be great to have the summoner crystals return. Just need them to have new creature or the harbinger would be summoned with its template over the player that broke the crystals image. The holloween mask would have use if the harbinger copied your current form. Hey a harbinger just popped by a ninja in rat form or mage as a chicken.
I am so very split on this. I hate grief-ers BUT I love the idea, that like in a good story, that you could be sneaking in like a saboteur carrying dark and evil magic to be unleashed upon the unsuspecting world. I understand both sides.
My thoughts exactly. Now if this were suggested when they first came out, I could go for that change. But since that was long ago, no need to bother the devs with this.
how do ya kill one of these bad boys? they got 10k hp 900plus str lots of mana and spill acid.. takes a big group of tamers id think?
Just one disco tamer with 5 Frenzy Ossi. Pop it in the middle of the Ilsh KiRin level of Oaks Champ.
Back when the Halloween event was going on, I was killing 5+ every night. Easiest way by far is with a provoke/discord bard. Pop 2 or more, get a discord on, then provoke. Really quick if you get 5-6 going at the same time. Funny thing is, because of their acid attack, they will sometimes aggro other not-yet-provoked harbingers, saving you a little work. Can be handy to have some friends to help with killing off the last one, and someone to loot the corpses is nice too, so the bard doesn't have to get distracted.
If you don't have such a bard handy, or don't plan on popping off multiple harbingers, next easiest way is with a discord tamer. I used a greater dragon myself. There's a rhythm involved, so you don't get destroyed by the acid pools. Send in dragon to attack it, and as pools of acid build up around it, call dragon back and have it engage in a new area with no acid. That way, dragon stays alive longer, and you don't sizzle instantly when you get pulled next to it. Heal dragon as it's fighting of course, and then maybe 3-4 times during the fight I needed to call the dragon over to Vet. If you call your dragon over and it's not attacking the harbinger, the thing will not spew acid; so vet it back up to full, move away, then have it attack again.
These days, with Fey slayer books and bows available, other methods are probably way quicker. Haven't fought one in a while though.

Just wanted to tag an idea to the thread. I wish the Harbingers were a normal spawn I could go hunt. Maybe make it a champion or a peerless?
My favourite way to kill them was to pop them on top of the ethereal fortress. Two paragon ethereal warriors were enough to kill them and I got all the loot from the harbinger and his kills.
As do anyone else who happens to be stealthing around.
Either my castle or my Yew gate tram vender house would be nice.
