Please don't break our suits with Magic Reflect change

    Heya,

I'm kinda excited about the tactical side of returning Magic Reflection spell to what it was before. On other hand, I'm reeeaally bummed if it breaks almost all mage PvP suits... I have at the moment five imbued, afterwards enhanced PvP mage suits. All of these suits are based on having reactive armor and magic reflection on. Some of these suits also have high RPD which means after this change the suits resists wouldnt work anymore for it

And I know some people think right now "Yeah but with imbuing it's easy to make new suits". Yea well, like I said all my suits are enhanced after imbuing to get max mods, and that ain't easy cause leather and wood keep breaking so often.

Well anyways, I know suits can be replaced and I'm only one player, but I'm pretty sure almost every PvP mage has this exact same problem.

Please let the magic reflection still give the elemental resists or create us a new spell for it. Would just save a Lot of trouble from a LOT of players.

Maybe imbued stuff should have hidden durability numbers similar to what items looked like before AoS, and be unrepairable. Be nice to see market niches reappear for stocks of imbued suits and non-imbued kit crafted suits...

Just my opinion, but imbued stuff just doesn't decay fast enough to justify the power it can bring to suits and weapons. Stuff in this game only decays if a player throws it in a bank-trashcan, deletes their character holding the items or when a house decays and no one picks up what was in it...

I went through 3 or 4 suits a night on a bad day in 1999 due to not being able to get back to my corpse in time, stupidity and PK's. I hated it, but I'm sure all the smiths and miners loved every minute of it: a viable economy, stuff disappeared, decayed, lost upon repair...

It's a hassle that you now might have to reimbue yourself a new suit, but hey, you'll probably won't have to change it again for the next 2... 3 years...

If I sound grumpy, I'm sorry. I'm not an old fart saying everything was better back when, I just think a viable economy is better for an MMO than an economy where everything gained stays with you until the end of time... :)

I agree with the OP's sentiment. This would break all of my mage suits. This would have an impact on PvM and PvP suits, not just one or the other.

The way it is now, if a mystic purges your reflect, you can immediately recast. If the changes go through, reflect will be able to be "used up" and have a cool down time, during which your resistances will be all screwed up, that is if you use reflect to help your suit resistances which most mages do.

Lucky me, I imbued all my mage suits in a way that they have all 70s resists without Magic Reflect being cast (i.e. 85 physical resist to counter Protection penalty). I don't know why I did it, I just thought it might come in handy one day.

Same here... of course, I know why I did it in my case. To me, it's always a challenge to even remember to put Protection on again after death. Remembering two spells? heh

I love your sense of enthusiasm but I'm in the same boat as Splup when it comes to high end expensive suits (minimum of 100 mil invested) that would absolutely mess up certain high end character templates if they implemented such a change to magic reflection and reactive armor. If they do decide to suddenly do this random change to magic reflection, then it would be nice to add another spell that does the same effect as it works as of now.

  12. change magic reflection back to Pre-AoS' reflecting spells, and change arch-protection to magic reflection's AoS effect. i mean, who the hell uses arch-protection nowadays?

If you built your suit around magic reflection, there's no one to blame but yourself.

Your argument might be feasible if this didn't pertain to all suits and templates in the game.

I like your idea, they would have to change the name to something else though. Perhaps magic fortification?

Go to the Test Center forum, they are changing how Magic Reflection works. It won't affect your resists now, it will actually, you know, reflect magic.

I'm not a fan of the change, but I spent a hour or two re balancing my suits in preparation of the change. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I imbued my suits all 70s without needing magic reflect also...

But I'm ok with taking unused or useless spells like arch protection and turning it into the new magic reflection.

I am kind of excited about getting a spell which includes some tactical nature to it. I remember my char StormDragon was one of the first on Pac to be able to cast 5th circle spells. This PK named Hobbes was able to cast E-Bolt. So many players were total new players that he just ran around ebolting and killing people freely. One day he ran into me at Destard and I had magic reflect up. Nobody else had magery that high or used the spell so he didn't even consider I might have it on. He ebolted me, it reflected, and you shoulda seen the smoke coming out from under his feet as he ran, ran, ran away.

    good times

    I like the change.

As to building a suit with reflect, suck it up.

From a tactical point of view it's genius and brings in old school play.

I can't believe that with imbuing anyone built a suit around those two spells, 6 years ago I did this but certainly not in a long time. Can someone please write out what a "highend" suit/temp looks like? I've got them all(I thought) and not a single one ever needed this crutch.

Agreed 100%. Ever since purge magic has been introduced if you use a suit with reflect or reactive, well, that's too bad for you.

Well, even though imbuing is an option, not all of us like it. Personally, I enjoy building suits that have weight in excess of 500 per piece. And you can't get that from imbuing. :thumbup1:

hey, that worked for years. And some of us miss that ;)

  25. That's a great idea. Fair and sensible, and it makes a neglected spell useful. Hope the devs see your post and consider it.

If your trying to get the most out of your suit it sounds stupid to not use the extra free 16 resist. I dont care about this change personly but i really do under stand the players that spent 200 mill on a(or 5 or 10) suits.

What a person spent making a suit 4 years ago is far from relevant in todays market.

I believe the main argument here resides upon the fact that the devs or whoever are changing something that did not necessarily need to be changed and is therefore creating dysfunction for those of us who dare to stride away from the norm and go to the extremes when creating suits and templates.

Also, I could post my suit and template (that I recently designed post purge magic) that utilizes this spell but I don't believe I need to. Figuring out the possible combinations of templates and suits and then realizing how difficult it is to set up competitive resists for pvp or pvm (for certain suits and templates) is not difficult to do if you have played for a decent span of time. Will I suffer that much from this change? No. Is this change necessary? No. Would it be easy to keep everyone happy and do the proposed change of making an unused spell the same as magic reflect in its current state? Yes.

Usually splup talks sense but on this occasion he's merely thinking of himself, also, he's being silly, he shouldn't be using suits that rely on the resists from magic reflect as b**tards like me will always come along and spam purge.
