    Dear Dev's;

    a) Can you PLEASE move all SHIPs away from the city docks ( ALL OF THE CITIES ) .. there very times at all you can get to the city docks due to people just leaving their ships there .. logging in the next day to refresh them and still blocking usage by anyone else

    B) for the FLOATING CITY .. almost all of the time, there is a SOLID SQUARE composed of ships around the City .... this is due to the Ship being auto-removed from the docks there after 20 minutes ... could you please make the removal to a random location ? ..

Removing Ships to a random location .. will encourage pepople to dock boats and not use them as extra storage . .it will also add another form of entertainment .. in case the aforementioned ship happens to be "removed " to a location frequented by pirates :twak:

    Thank you
    Siabra

As long as you are on the same server you don't need to have your ship at the docks to get or fill your quests.

Just Mark a rune at the major ports, it really saves a ton of time.

Yes the floating city is a different matter.

How about: NO (at least to B).

    A. I do agree it's a pain, but it's not required to use a dock to launch a ship, drydock a ship, get a fishing quest or turn in a fishing quest.

You can get or turn in a fishing quest from any part of the same server. For Britain, as an example, your ship could be parked on the coast of East Britain, down at the area commonly referred to as "Paws" (because that is where the village was in the stand-alone Ultima games) or 5 screens out to sea. The fishmonger doesn't care, and it was designed that way to keep dock crowding from being an issue.

Hell, the borders of the subservers even mean that you can have your boat at the Floating Emporium, and recall to Moonglow and back for quests there (thereby totally avoiding the guantlet of water elementals in Moonglow harbor)...
OR be sitting by the Serpent Pillar between Trinsic and Haven, and recall to Vesper to deliver and pickup...
OR, park off Trinsic, and be able to pick up and deliver at Trinsic, Skara AND Jhelom, without moving your ship an inch!

The people blocking the docks are those that aren't smart enough to figure this out for themselves.

    B. We fishers CAN'T drydock our boats, without abandoning our quests. As we can have as many as 8 quests active at a time, and the questgivers can offer us one immediately on turn-in, if the recieving city is one we currently don't have a quest for, most fishers are NEVER without at least one quest box in their hold at any given time.

Similarly, the ships can't be drydocked with a capture pole on the deck.

The scattering of boats off the docks is currently supposed to leave a way clear into the Floating Emporium. If it's not doing so on your shard, send in a Bug Report to EA.

But, the vast majority of us parked around there are parked there for a reason; and frankly, it's where I do most of my fishing. I have one spot outside the Buoys I return to park and deep-water fish, where I can pull straight forward, without running into anything, into a ship berth, where I can shallow water fish, and both spots allow crabbing.

At most, they need to widen the scope of how far back ships are bounced if they are moved from being left at the docks. The rest of us park where we do, deliberately, and we have very good reasons to do so.

Yeah, it's called a case of the lazy ass. Which is nothing BUT a pain in the ass for any player who actually wants to SAIL the dang seas and go from port to port. Yes, you can't drydock your boat but you could dang sure move it to a location that is 8 screens away from a dock. Oh wait I forget your type can't be bothered to actually take into consideration others that play. It's all about you.

I really HATE that mentality both in game and outside of it. :rant2:

whoa, first off I was simply offering a way around the rude types that park and leave.

Second, My type? Well lets just say my type is not yours.

Did not realize I had you quoted on that as well. My rant there was mainly directed at the previous poster. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I know you were just trying to share with others the way you have found to get around the butts who are too lazy and inconsiderate to actually leave the docks.

They should let us just recall everywhere. Who cares?

Then you REALLY must hate the mirrors in your house showing you one every time you pass by.

My ship sails everywhere, already, thank you very much; but I see no reason why I must handicap myself for no benefit to you.

Oh, I forgot, you choose to play on a shard where the population density impinges on your access to the docks, whereas I play on one where I routinely change course THIRTY DEGREES WEST of the Floating Emporium, and sail straight in through my usual mooring spot, into that boat slip, without having to change course, even once, to avoid other boats. In fact, I even did it a couple times in a single hour in a FRIEND'S ship, (mine being left elsewhere, half way through a delivery), blowing their minds that I could routinely move the ship into port to deliver the pirate captain, with a perfect docking every time, without manuevering, and by simple turn commands based on the latitude I knew us to be at (no maps to the pilot, no manual steering, just voice commands). How could I do it? Because NO ONE PARKS on that latitude on that side of the docks, except me. I have several neighbors where I park, whose ships are always brought back to those same spots, when possible. Because that is what is convenient (NOT lazy) for them. You definition of lazy is the equivalent of demanding that instead of parking your car on your street by your house, in the areas parking is allowed, you should instead park your car in the next county over.

In other words, I park where I do because there is ample room to do so where I play, without it causing any access problems to the docks for others.

Maybe some day you should visit a real marina, and see how off base your conceptions are. I've lived the last 35 years within a half-hour of 2 lakes large enough to have multiple marinas.

You have a navigational channel, which EA finally added and expanded on.
If you try to park long-term at the short-term docks, you get towed.
But, just outside the short term docks, there is long term parking, where people pay fees to rent out mooring spots for large vessels safely outside the navigation channel.

And, frankly, other than the ship styles, a row of sailing vessels parked along the East and West Buoy lines at the Floating Emporium looks nearly identical to real life houseboats at anchorage in parking slips (see below) or offshore moorage, except that ships in game don't have to maintain a 360 degree spacing to account for the ship being blown in circles when moored offshore, since there's no wind in game (for that matter, they don't have to anchor or otherwise tie off). Even the use of rowboats parallels what people with offshore moorage do to get to and from their houseboats.

Right: Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, CA

Not much difference, other than the weather and water salinity.

Realism, if anything, means that ships will tend to be parked as close as possible to the dock. Not "8 screens away", as you wish.

  9. Where I live you have to pay dock fees to park at the marina. And if you overstay your time, your boat gets towed away from the dock and you have to pay to get a ride to your boat. The dock fees are pretty stiff, about $5 a foot, so many just drop anchor away from the docks and use their own skiff or pay for a shuttle. That works well.

So maybe a stiff docking fee would alleviate the congestion that some shards have, 1,000 gold or more. If you really need to dock, pay the fee.

cant you blast those ships and take the hoard out of their hold? (plus their cannons if they have those)

  11. If people leave their boats unlocked, I do that for free!

Too bad you can't sail from Tram to Fel yet. :)

I thought Rowboats were the answer to navigating the channels the game keeps open around the buoys near the floating city?

In other cases; Recall/Sacred Journey etc....

Don't have the skill on that character? Buy/make a Runebook and fill it with Recall Charges.

    Just some options.

As an aside, I hate the floating Ship-Dams as well.

I like to sail into the docks that i go to. If they were to make all docks like the sea market there would be a great need for the entrance canal or it would be pointless. Already as it is there needs to be an etrance canal on all four sides of the sea market but there isnt.

Also they need to have the same thing for server lines. KEEP your dang ships off the server lines if your not sailing them. WE CANT SEE YOUR SHIP FROM ACCROSS it when trying to pass. It is a PITA trying to cross server lines and yor blocked by unmanned ships
