Anyone else sad to see AOS artifacts become so worthless? I think it would be awesome if they were remade and buffed to match current arties and maybe change the gauntlet up a bit so its fresh. Then we can all turn in our current aos ones and hunt for ones.

Once they address the weapon/Armor revamp, then the next course should be to update the artifacts. Basically they need to get the base item system in place to serve as a benchmark to make uniquely desireable versions (artifacts).

Well lets face it in light of most changes the only artifacts that anyone really wants anymore are:

    Sliver
    Lavallier
    Orny
Hat of the Magi (some not all)
    Despicable Quiver
    Compassions Eye

Most other arties are now worthless. The only other things people ALWAYS want are the luck garb which you can't get anymore, the Rangers Cloak of Augmentation again you can't get anymore... Conjurers Trinket... again can't get anymore... These 3 things are things that honestly are an unfair advantage to other players who can no longer obtain them in anyway and the properties they give can not be found on anything similar.... Same with the Dread Warhorse it's an unfair advantage to certain players that quite honestly only now benefits those who have duped them or those who horded them.... and still can sell them for an extremely ridiculous amount of gold that new or returning players are NEVER going to have. Lets face it these are just a few of the unfair things that cause new or returning players to become frustrated and bitter over.... and may eventually cause them to HATE the game even more next time they quit. Now that Luck counts and means more it's an advantage that seriously should NOT be so rare or impossible to obtain. Rangers Cloak... While yes you can now get such things on a ring perhaps..... the only thing that gives SSI on a cloak spot now is the Quiver.... Which doesn't have any other good properties for NON-archers. So once again Unfair advantage and if you tell me I can get SSI on Jewels I must then say YES and I can wear Jewels, have it on my weapon AND have the Cloak as well giving me that much more... Which they can not.... Conjurers Trinket allows me to remove the need for Undead slayer on my weapon allowing me to put that much more of a smack down on undead than other players who don't have one...

The Dread Warhorse is by FAR better than any other 3 slot pet... That Bane Dragon is ok but it's slow compared to the Warhorse it's nothing.... and you can't get either one of them anymore. Which in my opinion is totally WRONG.

And I'm going to bring this up yet again artifacts..... lesser and greater should be imbuable..... There is NO reason why we shouldn't be allowed to imbue useless artifacts to add some sort of use to them.

hmm making them imbuable would probably work too instead of a full remake which would take more time.

Oh, there are many very useful arties, you forgot, malag aste: tangle, crimson cincture, hephaestus, animated leggings, inquisitors, shadow dancer leggings, crystalline ring, mace and shield glasses, royal investigator cloak, lieutenant sash and many many more. Cannot agree to your note that all other artie than those you named are worthless...

These Conjurer items are always on sale albiet at a high price. They are not out of reach for a new player working the right spawns and selling items to buy the Garbs or whichever item of their choosing.

I can't get Daemonic Crisis Vanquisher statuettes or other items at EM events either. Should we make those available again to everyone as well?

There should be some benefit to have been playing Ultima Online over the years and participating in the game during various stages. None of the items you mentioned are must have items but rather items players strive for. You can certainly create viable templates without those items.

Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Double Undead Slayer will stack. Undead Slayer Adds +100% Damage so if you have two items your doing +200% will still under the 300 Cap.

Many of the artifacts have become worthless because of the introduction of the new items via the Anti-Virtue dungeons and Faction Artifacts.

Constantly re-doing items to make them viable again seems to create more and more powerful items and it's really starting to get out of control.

Those shame artifacts trump the items of almost all the Champion Bosses and Peerless.

Recipes to create some of the artifacts as suggested by Logrus is a good idea to revamps,as is adding more ingredients to remove useless properties from items and armor.

Peerless should drop the best loot in the game imo.

Yes and my sampire still runs around in a Violet Courage. The point of Malagaste still stands though, that only a small fraction of the artifacts are considered useful. Thus making many activities in UO unappealing to engage in, as the rewards are simply not there (anymore). While many of the truly interesting artifacts are event items, which have been discontinued. Not much of a problem by itself, if only there were obtainable items with somewhat similar stats. Add a robe with 140 luck and 5 SDI or 5 HCI, either as a permanent spawn or as a reward for an event that occurs every 6 months or so.

This is - no offense - nonsense. And quite negativistic. It is nonsense to compare violet Courage with the items I named: tangle, crimson cincture, hephaestus, animated leggings, inquisitors, shadow dancer leggings, crystalline ring, mace and shield glasses, royal investigator cloak, lieutenant sash. I forgot about 10-15 other very useful items.

This does not mean, however, that you are wrong if you state that there is a large number of items which are absolutely worthless today. I agree. Make them imbueable. But I stay on my ground: Saying that there are only 6 useful items (including hat of the magi, which is not as useful as many of the arties I named), is nonsense.

Let me please note that I really agree with you and Malag Aste in many points and many posts. But there are HEAPS of AWESOME artifacts out there. HEAPS!

I was serious with the violet courage on the sampire, it's actually not as useless as it looks, even though it's getting a bit dated. It's definately something that I wouldn't be ashamed to give to new players.

I think that the main role of artifacts are to be centerpieces of the suit, not necessarily being more powerful than other items, but rather having special or overcap properties that do not appear like that on regular gear. The Hit Lower Defense on Mace and Shield glasses and the Fast Cast Recovery on the Inquisitor's Resolution are very good examples in what I'm looking for on an artifact. Clothing items with stats are always nice, but I think they can use a bit more competition as there are very few of those items out there.

With each new story line we get some "new" things that make the market go gaga.... That is for a time till they again revamp things and then those toys go into the trash for points or on a vendor to sit there till the cow's come home cause they think they can get a fortune for old junk.
I am quite frankly tired of the endless mounds of garbage and toss outs .... I could see it if this was 97 and no one item was trash .... gotta remember we had nada back then.
I'd like to see that whats given out could be of use for more then 6 months... which is the life span of todays "special finds".

I agree with all here that there needs to be some sort of trade in or tool to make the items up to the newest fad story line crap that is about to be handed out.

To be frank most youngs who see the items the "cool kids " are wearing or carrying does its toll on them when they are told by the owners the items they posess are $$$$$ or no longer gettable.. The gold part is doable for us who have the afore knowlage of how to make it flow like water... but to the new guy who is drooling over that item and had little or no idea of how to make more then he can get off a mongbats tush...... If you get my meaning. They SOL.
I have complained when I have worked my tail off at an event and got squat and the guy with the uber skills and top of the line wear/weapon walks in and scoops up the best and most for a quick trip to Atlantic's sales floor asap.... I get a bit peeved...... They dont play my shard... yet they pop in grab the goods and make off like its a simple thing to get where they are and them knowing its near impossible to do it...

Artifacts and event items need to be changable with the times and if that means a revamp ...... so be it. It can be as simple as a deed you put on the item like a bless that upgrades it to the equivalant weapon or armor, or what ever to that date. Or simply set up an exchange npc... trade in that artie and get its replacement +/- a bit of gold and poof you settle this.

    I say go for simple...

A demonic Crisis Vanquisher while yes cool does NOT effect your gameplay.... it does NOT give you any unfair advantage over someone else. And MOST new players are going to hate UO immediately after realizing that they will have to farm gold somehow spending the next 2 years or more non-stop farming to afford something like a Conjurers garb..... which by the time they farm up that much gold and take that much time will be even MORE rare and cost 10X as much ....... so they will get angry, frustrated and QUIT. Is that what we want???

A new player can create any numerous number of viable templates (tamer, Mystic, Sampire, Thrower) that are capable of farming High End items that sell for BIG BUCKS. Certain Marks of Travesty sell for 50M, Slither 150M, Any Peerless Crimson Cinture 30M. Cash in any of those items and your well on your way to getting those Conjurer items.

There are too many ways to list to make money in this game. Any player that pays their dues can get their hands on high value items, liquidate them, and buy another high end of their choosing i.e. Conjurer Items.

Furthermore any new player can farm resources and ingredients that over time will provide them with enough revenue to purchase High End items if they save their gold.

Those Conjurer items are still available. They are popping up all the time and again these are not must have items that create an imbalance.

Yes I like my Conjurer's Garb and Trinket but if I tossed them in the trash today they aren't going to prevent me from tackling any High End monsters in the game.

would be neat to see, but they would have to get it right.

if you remember, they proposed "updated" versions of most doom arties for cove. most of them were horrendous and a total slap in the face.

ANY ITMES That offer unfair advantage or an advantage over other players should STILL be obtainable in some way. Not just giving billions in gold to dupers who've duped them to no end. THAT is what I'm talking about.

A demonic crisis vanquisher yes is neat but it's not something you NEED to keep current in the game and compete. Things that allow others to be at an advantage in PvP or even in PvM Should remain obtainable...

I'm saying this is one of the MAJOR reasons why folk who return QUIT rather quickly...... they don't want to have to work that hard to pay out billions in gold to be able to reach an even bar with the rest of us.... and they SHOULDN'T have to. This is also one of the reasons newer players QUIT.... They look at prices see what loot they are getting and QUIT. Honestly whens the last time you actually got something worth selling?????

You know how many Doom runs it takes to get a decent drop? How many Travisties does it take to get a mask that will sell????? How many peerless it takes to get a Tangle or Crimson????? WAY more than the AVERAGE player is EVER going to do.

What you are talking about is certainly obtainable IF..... you spend 4,000 hours playing... The average game player isn't going to want to do that.

And to make my point even more clear to you and to the DEV's I'm going to say this.... The average player isn't going to have a freaking CLUE about how to get gold in this game... sure you KNOW how to farm gold..... but the average returning player or new player hasn't got clue one even about 95% of the content of UO...... so looking at it from their eyes and seeing prices of things in Luna and elsewhere of folk they see as being "average" players..... since lets face it 95% of us now run with a Garb, and about a half dozen arties that you can't really get anymore or are VERY expensive..... They are going to look at that and LEAVE.

I've helped dozens of folk who've come back to UO and such and a GREAT majority of them quit fairly quickly because they feel they are just too far behind and it's just too hard to get things they feel they need... Or most the stuff they desire is either WAY out of their ballpark in spending or it's just plain not available anymore....

But the main thing about being able to farm gold and such is knowing how to get it..... and I'm going to call you on that because most of those coming back or starting wouldn't have your VAST knowledge of gathering and selling... and you have to HAVE good stuff to GET good stuff.

Imbuing has leveled the playing field and allowed virtually anyone in the game to get access to high end gear in order to fight monster or bosses. I think 90% of the suits I run these days are imbued and void of artifacts.

There are just too many ways to make money in UO and everyone can carve out their own niche and save up to buy whatever is is they want.

New players can't learn how to sell imbuing ingredients or do treasure maps?

Essentially what I'm hearing you say is the average player isn't willing to put in the time or pay their dues in order to get whatever items it is they seek. If the average player isn't willing to do more for themselves to get the gear they want then the average player needs to settle for average gear.

I would generally agree except for slots where you cannot imbue. I've long thought we need a way to imbue robes, cloaks/quivers, sashes, and boots with up to 50 intensity to give a middle ground between the uber artifact clothes and plain non-magic items. The only other Arties I look at are those with mods I cannot imbue like glasses with HLD or the Orny with FC 2.

I guarantee then you aren't doing as well as most... and you can't argue that I can imbue a cloak or robe or even have a talisman that I didn't have to work really hard for. Those things all give advantage over others. And yes I can find crap in dungeons with really good mods...... If I want to spend all day redoing my armor because I went somewhere and got half my **** looted by some mob..... Try doing a champ spawn with creatures that loot in cursed gear.... 9x out of 10 you will NEVER see your items again..... mostly because the decay rate at a champ is WAY high.... your stuff will be gone before you can get rezed and back to your corpse.... Then what do you do???? Your SOL....

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your reply. I was agreeing with Madrid's statement that imbuing has generally leveled the playing field. I agree with that except for the talisman, robe, cloak, sash, shoe, and belt slots where your only options are non-magical items or the very expensive (and in some cases no longer able to be earned) artifacts. There is no middle ground for those six slots except maybe talismans.

I personally would never use cursed Shame artifacts in my suit because I view a suit as an integrated whole. To loose a single item would leave a suit missing some vital mods that cannot be easily replicated.

As I've posted elsewhere, a lot of these item slots (belt, cloak, etc.) need more to them than just one or two artifacts. But at this point I'm over wanting to ask this dev team for anything. They'll spice the Doom artifacts up with a bunch of worthless assassin honed evil mana burst ephemeral spell focusing garbage properties, lower the drop rate to 0.000001%, and require some sort of drawn-out idiot ritual to get in.

Oh on that we can completely agree.... the drop rate on stuff in STUPID Rare..... which to me is just plain stupid and makes no sense at all... people don't and won't spend half their lives farming for junk in a game. They want to play and have fun.... and part of having fun is being able to "compete"... and survive and collect... Not grind away for hours repeating the same crap over and over and over and over and over and over until at some crazed points when all the moons align and the stars are in their apex of nigh and the planet is spinning in a new direction you get a drop you've waited for for the last 16 months of constant grinding..... only to do it over again for the next 16 months so you can outfit your other character...

Oh and then lets remember adding insult to injury just after you grind away another 16 months of your life they stop whatever it is from spawning just before you get the item..... and then..... they totally revamp everything so all your suits on all your characters are now totally worthless and you have to spend the next 4.5 years grinding out things to totally revamp and rework all your characters once again.....
