Assasin, Sorcerer, Scout, Darkwood, Knight's suits and so forth........

Which is the "pre-made" (not custom) suit that you much prefer ?

    Why ?

What adjustments did you enjoy making to it (like what extra piences did you add to fine tune the whole suit to better serve your needs) ?

By far the most commonly used one is the Sorcerer suit. Mostly by tamer/mages from what i've seen [no,,i never have had/used this suit]
and many have said it was due to it being 100 lrc and all 70`s [not that its that hard to get that on a suit and so much more.I think alot of peeps were running around in 100 lrc with crappy resists and veiwed the Sorc Suit as easily obtainable [spring cleaning]

Pfft! Sorcerer's Suit is not all that great. I currently have one on my mage and its garbage. As soon as i finish my tailor, that suit is going on a table somewhere just for looks. Barely any mana regen, barely any lmc, dci is a joke. I have ~135 mana and its gone before I know what happened lol.

The only one I have ever used and will ever use (unless more are added) is the assassins suit.

You aren't missing much not having one, Banner, especially if someone can make you an imbued suit that you can dye and where you can pick the style of every piece of armor in the suit. The ugly powder blue color and a stupid-looking wizard's hat as well as the complete lack of any mods to help with mana regen make the Sorcerer's suit something I wouldn't pay much for these days.

Edited to add: I should have checked before saying it completely lacks mods to help with mana regen. It has MR 2, LMC 5%, DCI 10%, and +12 Intelligence bonus when you're wearing the full suit. Still not really worth whatever someone might be charging for it just because of the rarity and name because you won't really enjoy using it if you need to do a lot of spell casting.

  12. The sorcerer's suit is not just all 70s and 100 LRC, it does come with some MR and DCI when the suit is complete.

The jewel slots are free, so with imbued jewels, imbued wep and shield, cloak with mods, robe with mods, talisman and crimson cinture, it could (just barely) serve as a passable (not elite) pvp suit.

Of all the armor suits, this is probably the most useful, for mages/mystics/necromancers anyway.

The Sorcerer's Suit is good for my non-luck tamer or crafter. Other than that, nothing.

Same feelings here, good for taming pets that do high damage other then its junk. I just made a better one anyways glad I never took it as reward except if I sold it at the time.

  15. I like my heartwood-Darkwood suit all 70s plus 30hci and 30dci is nice - it really frees up item slots

  16. I was using the Sorcerer's Suit on my crafter, as that's about the only thing it's good for. It's now sitting in a chest collecting pixel dust since I imbued a set of invasion armor to replace it.

Other than that the Assassin Armor is the only one worth using really, which I have on my Sampire. That's not an easy fit either.

I have the sorcerers suit on a couple of my lesser mages..... one a mage/archer and the other a mage/bard... but they aren't as good as if I took the time to imbue something.

I guess I'm just lazy and haven't really imbued out all my characters... but with 50 some characters I'm in no hurry to do the job.... infact I've barely imbued anything since hitting 120 imbuing.

I think the best thing I worked on was getting my tamers luck suit by making a few 140 luck pieces.... that was spendy to be sure.

Other than that I haven't even made them "uber" awesome weapons.....

I suppose what I should do is unravel all the stuff I have now and keep good base items... to imbue to perfection... but I have a hard time parting with things.

Other than the 50+ chars, I could/would have said the exact same thing. I like the assassin suit. What head/gorget pieces do people use with the assassin armor?

I used sorcerers suit on my crafter cause it was same color as beetle. Now my crafter is gargoyle and the suit is in some secure... Too bad the pre-made suits are pretty much crap.

The suits are dyable with the new plant dyes. I could happily do without the wizards hat though.

I use the sorcerer suit on my mage tamer for pvm. It is a nice suit to have that I can just throw on without having to worry about counting resists or LRC. Combined with some nice jewels and a talisman it takes a while before I run out of mana.

They all suck since the introdutcion of Imbuing & BETTER suits can be made CHEAPER from Imbuing.

  22. You can't add SSI to armor, so your statement is not accurate.

All of them other than Assassin and Darkwood are useless. Assassin is self-explanatory, darkwood is a good cheap suit for a new warrior.

actually even before imbuing it was possible to make better suits buying all the peices in Luna making use of the websites with searches on them.
I remember a few different times i was "hired" to assemble 100%lrc suits for people and if memory serves me right none of these cost over 1-mill total.
Given they were not `uber PVP suits` but now with imbuing its even simpler to make better suits if one were only to take the time to make them.
The pre-made suits are really only for collectors now imo.But i guess if one really doesn't like the idea of losing gold they could wear the virtue suit [to train a broke/newby toon]

    hmmm,,,maybe the dancing veggie suit
:danceb: :danceb: :danceb: :danceb: :danceb::danceb: :danceb:

  25. They all suck imo.

    Assasin suit seems quite popular.......
Time back it was the Darkwood suit who was more popular.

I use the Sorcerer's suit with the etoile jewelry when I'm taking a mule into a bad area. On atl the suit is going for 30m and the jewels are 12m-15m. You can imbue some seriously nice equipment for that sort of money.

The question's been raised as to why people use them at all?

There's several reasons, actually. If the point was not curiosity but rather just to trash other players, don't bother reading this post, it'll just give you more reasons to be all pissed off.

Some, the Darkwood and Assassin Sets come to mind, have specialized properties that some find useful in some situations. You didn't ask about weapon sets, but I used to use s Juggernaut Set for Peerlesses; I liked the high damage output. At the end of the day, though, it was better to just use a nice Leafblade of Ease or Radiant Scimitar or Katana. There are times, though, when I kinda miss the Juggernaut Set. Then I cast Close Wounds and I remember trying to cast it when, say, Lady Melisande was bearing down on me, and I was down an Faster Casting 1 from the shield! And suddenly I no longer miss it.

Some, the Sorcerer's Suit is the best example by far, offer the following combination of benefits, which some players like in combination (rather than for any individual factor):
    • They look cool to some;
    • They were obtainable by hoarders and collectors rather than power-gamers;
    • You can throw them on and know the pieces will both look decent together and provide you with an at least moderate level of functionality;
    • Easy, stress-free suit design.

Some simply like the way they look. (I'm actually one of these.) Sometimes the best suits in terms of mods or functionality can appear "thrown together" and scrappy.

(This, by the way, is far from a new issue in UO. Even before Age of Shadows, if you knew where and how to hunt for magic armor, you could almost always throw together a suit with better AR by using scrap magic pieces you picked up, than if you simply bought a nice GM-made "Heavy Archer" suit or Studded Armor or something. But some of us bought the GM suits anyway, for looks and for ease of preparation.)

Some wear them as a kind of status symbol, because they are pretty expensive, aren't all-that-common, and are of at least moderate difficulty to find these days.

One example: Me. Galen wears a Scout's Armor suit for formal or ceremonial occasions. (Examples have included Queen Dawn's coronation, and a knighting ceremony. Both of these have been EM events. I could also see wearing it for an in-game wedding if Galen had some ceremonial role, such as officiant or guard.)

Galen could easily of course wear any old suit for formal occasions, I'd just dye it black or dark gray, and I could probably get decent mods too. But, he so rarely shows off...Getting the Scout's Armor was kind of an indulgence. Also, if fighting somehow does break out, it's not like you can't fight in the Scout's Armor, it's just not the best.

As to which one of these I'd use? Scout's Armor is the only one I use, or would use, for the reasons outlined above. At the end of the day, I go for viability first and foremost. As does Galen the character. We're both practical men.

I like the Virtue Armor set with the Holy Sword and Dupre's Shield. I saw a character named "AVATAR" wearing that gear and I thought "That guy wins UO". I like the look of it, just a shame it's almost worthless.

I carry a Virtue set on my legendary paladin in case I run out of insurance or something. She only wears leggings and a bustier anyway, so the backup suit has better resists.

Yeah. One would think that virtue armor, given the name and the fact that the virtues are a big part of the UO stories, would be one of the better sets of armor.

  35. Fink

    Fink Guest

Perhaps a series of set bonuses based on your progress within the Virtues themselves, although that would make for one hellish item tooltip description.

  36. I like the Darkwood set made of Bloodwood. It has a total of DCI 30, 12x hit point regen, 10 strength, 17 hit points (12 from armor pieces plus 5 from the 10 strength), all 70s except the 69 cold, 25% reflect physical damage and 100 luck. It's as strong as most imbued suits, and you can't imbue DCI or strength. It may not be the best PvP suit in the world, but it's not the worst, either. The 30 DCI means that with the standard 15 DCI shield and jewelry, you'll be at 75 DCI; you'll never have to worry about all the PvPers with the HLD weapons and glasses. The hit point regen is useful, too. If you're wearing the crimson cincture and a bloodwood-enhanced shield, you're at the hit point regen cap. The hit points cap is +25. With 8 str each on the jewelry, you'll be at the cap. If you're at 124 natural strength, with the +10 from the suit and +16 from jewelry, you'll be at the 150 maximum strength, with a total of 137 hit points. If you're PvPing, there are several combinations of jewelry which can make you less than godly, but better than average. For PvM, you can use the 2 properties on your jewelry that you would otherwise need for DCI for any of a number of other useful properties instead.

  37. The Darkwood set does not allow you to hit 150 Dex, much less be able to boost stamina up where it's normally desired.

First off... a custom suit, imbued or otherwise, will win against darkwood armor, IF the creator actually took decent amount of time (you don't even need as much ings as darkwood armor if you do 80-90 intensity on most mods) and like Connor stated, you can max out your stamina, can't do that with Darkwood. You can keep you 137 HPs and, at max. 143 stamina (125 base, 16 dex jewel, 2 dex robe) but i'll keep the 121 HPs with 180+ stamina :/ Oh, I also get MR and LMC.

  40. Darkwood allows + 30 dex with heartwood, although i prefer + 30 hci - you could also go +40 str or mage armour
