I think that these new ships could have been an awesome gold sink into this game, a MUCH NEEDED gold sink, the servers are flooded with way too much gold and it would help the UO economy tremendously, that being said, I have no idea why the tokuno ship only costs 150k and the gargoyle ship only costs 200k, they should have made each one cost 5-10 mil to get gold out of this game, and then they go super-extreme with the whale ship and charge 150 mil, only people with a lot of gold will buy that, given that right there is a good gold sink but not enough gold will be taken out because not too many people will purchase one, id suggest 30-50 mil gold to get that ship

so if high seas could be redone id do:

    tokuno ship: 7 mil
    gargoyle ship: 10 mil
    whale ship: 40 mil
orc ship: the only one that u need to work toward getting and its actually a lot of fun doing so, these sell for like 15 mil for the completed ship which is a fair price for it i think

Actually the new ship is a good piece of deco and gave the same advantages of a gargoyle ship so if you sell the gargoyle ship at 10 mil, this should be sold for max 15 mil.

The orc ship on europa worth almost nothing, the price now is around 4-5 mil and still lowering everyday... to many orc ship around, is too common for being the best ship available in the game!

i thought the whale ship can withstand many more cannon shots than a gargoyle ship ?

1 shot per side if you bring enough people, but is worthless compared to 3 shots of an orc ship...
orc ship cannons = 150% damage
plain ship cannons (britannian ship is one of these) = 100% damage

    3 shots x 150 = 450 damage <- ORC SHIP
    4 shots x 100 = 400 damage <- BRITANNIAN SHIP

as you can see an orc ship still better...

But the new whale ship has more hp so it can withstand teh onslaught of teh orc ship and keep on firing.

Ship combat is already agonizingly expensive for almost no real reward. You may as well make that ship a billion gold, nobody would buy it for 40 mil.

I just pray that if dev's do change prices on things they take siege into account for once, even right now at 450k for the tokuno ship (since our vendors are 3x prodo price) is nearly half what I paid for a +25 scroll of power, and the 100k in gold it takes to actually sink a pirate ship for 10k gold reward could buy me a lower end 120, like stealing or anat. 7 mil for a tok ship? that would be 21 mil here, or enough for 7 full soulstones (in the form of legacy tokens)

150 mil for the new boat also....I'll be surprised if I EVER see one on siege, we just simply aren't that inflated here. (unless someone's been saving all their fish for the past 10 years....waiting for this exact moment to turn in those ONE MILLION fish) I know the idea behind the dev's pricing the boats like this is as a gold sink on shards like Atl...but comeon :/

Also, I'm confused...the new brit ship is maybe a little....too big, it's impossible to steer well since all you can use is your mini-map to see where you are.

and spend double ammo... so still better the orc ship... better 1 hard hit than 100 with low damage, because 1 hit cost more than 1k :D

I agree, it's a bit hard to handle it on battle, but with some practice could be done.

Oh, I know people who desperately want it and consider bying gold from brokers to get it.

I paid over 600k for the gargoyle ship. :)

Why do we have those stupid gold sink diskussions over and over? Moneysinks will never work and have never worked. All you will do is annoy those who dont have time to gather lotsa coins (camping etc). Those who have the cash will buy the boats instantly and afterwards replenish the gold spend with excessive camping/trading until they are back to their former gold level.
Those who dont have the cash will either start camping until they can afford the boat or not bother at all.

If the gargoyle boat would cost me 6mil instead of 600k i would have to go hunt and fish up mibs with a plain boat until i have the 6 mil. Then i would buy the ship and be as broke as before i went after the ship. Would it have done anything good to the ecenomy? No .. all it did was forcing me to do something i maybe didnt want to do.

I really want one as well, but I won't be buying gold to do it.

Upto ~200k in points from turn ins atm.

you realize 6 mil is the equivalent of about $3 bucks irl... you dont have 6 mil after this game has been around for 13 years? most people can snap their fingers and 6 mil appears this day and age

On siege it might be tougher :p

But making gold to get some nice item ingame is most often so tedious.
In uo either buying gold or grinding until you have enough, In wow it is the reputation grind ... brr...or the grind in archeology for that vial of sands ... *greedy look*
I hate grinds ....damn addictions :p

yes on luna shop but is there from weeks, for more than 5 mil you can't sell it. The market is totally flooded, the only chance of recover it is export orc ship in shard where still rare :D

oh and just for the chronicles: I'm completing something like 3-4 ships per day...so is too common and the price will be lower and lower until it worth nothing :(

Thats the whole basis and point of a PVM and merchant part of game. If there is nothing the game after killing the first couple of monsters then whats the point after 10years killing the same thing? What the point of trade with a common currency? At the end what would be the point for a non PVP player? The grind is neccesary unless UO goes straight PVP and dressup roleplayers with nothing else.

I dispute that the grind is necessary.
Single player games have stories and events that drive those games.

Developers and programmers are just not clever enough yet to go beyond the grind.

Grinding in MMOS at the moment is there to give the addicted something to aim for ...

The vast majority of the time 'grinding' is done by players, of their own choice, either because they haven't the patience or haven't the imagination to 'play' the content. There is no need to grind most skills. No one forces a warrior to bore himself rigid fighting a golem, you can gain skill through game play.
No one will force anyone to 'grind' to get this boat. You can get it by donating whenever convenient, a little at a time, over period.

Even training taming doesn't have to be done by boringly following polar bears, great harts and bulls. I didn't train it that way.

There isn't a race to achieve the end product, you can enjoy the journey.

I really find it odd when people with more money than they apparently know what to do with push for insane gold sinks for others that, while not poor, are not nearly as well off.

    It's fine as it is...

the end product is pvp dominance. even if there are only 2 people left in the entire game pvp'ing they have achieved a higher level than any of the other players in the game.

If that's all you want from this vast, diverse game, you're playing the wrong game. Go play some FPS game. You're missing out on 99% of this one.
