Yup, as Kelmo says, depends on the house, although all my houses were public for about the first 2 years I played. Certain incidents, mostly involving suspected exploits were what motivated me to make my main house with all my stuff private a bit over a year ago. Ironically though, I never lost a thing while my house was public, but my main house was looted just about dry (basically my soulstones, and Skylark's extensive wardrobe, which were in owner containers, were all that escaped) after it was made private, apparently by a friended char on an account which had been sold. But that is a different sort of security issue of course.

The Zento house was always meant as a service for players. It has always been public, although I did finally put security on the teleporters and lock the doors because it was a death trap, especially being so close to a public moongate. So, it never really accomplished what I wanted for it, but was OK.

Sometimes dealing with unwanted intruders on a non-combat character can be amusing, sometimes a royal pain.

I can deal with all public housing if that is what most people preferred. I can say definitively though, I would never want to return to a time when people could take over your house, with the whole key thing.

I am not into ownship of multiple accounts, thus multiple houses and multiple
characters. I survive, regardless! In fact... I believe having too many accounts
on Siege Perilous is a problem inside the game. If there be four to five houses
per real person on the average... then there be only about 300 to 400 real
persons playing this game on this shard.

Ok, I am not going to try to understand your reply to me!
I do not own a house on Siege Perilous...so I do not really do house hiding.
So, I am a trammy ass!!! Thank you Black Rain for the Christmas present!
And, You want me to Get the [censored] off of your shard! Ok, I see telling
people to quit the game is number one sin of players on Siege Perilous.
This is nothing but TRASH from the Community of Siege Perilous...
the Community needs to re-think what they do and quit thinking the developers
can fix this or that! The REAL problem is player behavior.

Behave. He's not a house hider, he just said he doesn't own a house on Siege. He lives with me, and unlike some other roommates I've had in the past he always pays his rent! [IMG]

i used to have my house set to public, but had the doors and teleporters set to friends and guildmates. I set it to private a few months back when there was talk about people getting into public houses.
