The notes for Publish 71 that is currently still on Test Center include this cryptic sentence in the section under the heading of "Bug Fixes": "Fixed an issue related to stabling pets prior to death."

Has anyone been playing on Test Center in the last week or so and had a chance to find out what this might possibly mean?

I haven't tested this but I am acutely aware of the possibility it could mean that players who log out to save a pet after death wont have the option anymore.

This coincides with dead bonded pets running away and not being able to find the ghost to res it. There was a lot of trouble with that at one time.

Now with increased stable slots for non tamers its less of an issue at least for me, where I always insta log when I die to save my swampy, but it is still, something I dread to have changed.

Truth be told it is a nuisance in pvp where a tamer can preserve a pets skills where without it they would have to leave the field every so often to retrain. That said I use the death stabling another way.

I almost never have magery on my tamers. This leaves me with very little choice as to template. If this as you say "cryptic sentence" means what i think it means, I will not be able to get fresh unbonded tames to the stable in any type of reasonable fashion. IE:no gate travel!

I truly hope this patch does not force tamers to have magery!

I may welcome such a "fix" (actually a nerfix) 'cause i've always felt guilty when i did the log trick to save my pet.

And i do that more because i hate the sight of my dragon dead than for the skill loss: ten minutes at chaos shrine with balrons and they are back to full skills.

Maybe after this we can expect a change in balls of pet summoning that makes them actually useful because the places where they work are the ones where you have absolutely no need to use them.

But that's a pvm matter so i fear they won't change anything in better.

I just did some testing on TC1 and nothing seems to have changed with regard to logging out while character and/or pet are dead. If your character logs out dead with pets out of the stable, the pets are automatically stabled (even if they are dead) when your character logs on dead. If you get a rez and then log out and log back in, the pet rejoins you. If you get a rez and instead of logging out, go to the stable, the pet is in the stable, even if it's dead. You still can't go to the stable with a live character and a dead pet and try to talk the stable master into stabling a dead pet.

I'm still puzzled over what the publish note means.

Maybe they added 'heat of battle' restrictions to pet logging in pvp. That seems to be a good solution to me..would still let me get pets unstuck from trees and rocks.-yeah my pets are dumb-

So glad some one takes the time to test these things.

    Thank You!

Since alot of the skill changes have to deal with skills and their effects and needs to use them. I would wonder if they fixed the coding to require actual skill to stable pets instead of jeweling up to gain the additional slots.

    PvP LMAO

 in no way does .1 point of skill have anything to do with stableing pets when ganked in PvP. It is just to save a pet from guranteeed death when the tamer dies since there is NO way a PvPer will let a pet without a tamer live. And when dead the bandies are looted therefore the pet canot be returned to the fight after the tamer ressed and runs off to get more bandies.

I have no idea what they are talking about a bug about stabling pets before death bug, unless it has to do with the running off bug that was around for a while when some pets will run off as soon as called no matter what happens or you say to them.

    Re: PvP LMAO

I guess I didnt have enough coffee this morning. I misread what the message was and therefore I need to go get another cup. Missed the prior to death part. my statement was regarding the general use of using jewelry to get around the basic stable slots. Having nothing whats so ever to deal with any combat, pvp or death for that matter.

It would have been more obvious if they'd just said player death or pet death. You can read it either way lol.

It's like a whole extra puzzle game reading publish notes ;)

An intriguing possibility and definitely not something I tested for since I wasn't fighting someone else's character at any point during my testing. I killed the pet myself and also killed my character by casting on her until she ran out of hit points.

Seems like maybe it would be a good idea to do more thorough testing with the tamer and pet flagged to other characters and monsters when they die. I don't have any guildmates handy the next couple of days to drag off to Test Center and then fight with them, but I will try to drag the pet off to a dungeon and see if anything different happens with "death by monster."

I would hope that if the developers were adding "heat of battle" restrictions, they would have the decency to make the notes say that. However, not much surprises me anymore and it wouldn't surprise me much if something that controversial slid in with little fanfare as a vaguely worded "bug fix."
