Put everything you have in to SA

As hard as it is to say, SA is their last chance for me. I really hope they get it right!

I'm calling a Hail Marry, through everything you have in to it!

On second thought, scrap SA if your not going to do something about the cheating.

Please let me know if there is nothing you can do about scripters or speed hackers so I can quit now.... FYI, not that it is any one persons fault but we have been waiting for these fixes for a decade.

  2. Can I have your stuff?

    What?

    Someone had to ask....:lick:

as much as i was against them implementing punkbuster, with all of its negative side effects it might of had, i wouldnt mind it now.
ive been playing since 1998 and the 3rd party programs have slowly grown to what we have now, its simply out of control now, they barely do anything anymore and its at the point where either you cheat to be on the same level as most people or you quit.

That is kind of what I mean. I don't want to sound like I'm attacking the devs, but they have done what SEEMS to be nothing to eliminate 3rd party progs or even speed hack.... and these aren't even the big big cheats.

Cheats ruin game play - just in case anyone didn't know that

I really don't get why people see Stygian Abyss as a "do or die" thing.

Does anyone honestly think the expansion is going to draw in new players? I don't.

I see at as something cool, new, and fun for existing players to do.

And, really, what's wrong with that.

UO doesn't have endless level increases, where each expansion gives you a few more levels to attain (unlike, for example, EQ or WoW). UO depends, rather, upon new content. A new dungeon, new items, new skills, etc. Sometimes they also throw in changes in how the game works, to varying degrees of success (Publish 16; Age of Shadows; Talisman equipment slot; Imbuing).

SA should be seen as just that...An expansion for existing players that gives us new places to go, new stuff to get, new skills to learn, new lore to uncover. It's just bigger than average, to compensate for the fact that it's been a long time since ML.

And really, what's wrong with that? To my mind, nothing.

    I'm looking forward to SA.

I'm just curious how you seem to know who and how many people actually use 3rd party programs?...la

New content is always needed and welcome, but SA is going to change UO in a lot of ways unless I dont have my facts right.
Tram + Malas in one facet. wow
Imbuing - Create customized weps, jewls, armor????? In the future we are going to be selling these items based on their total intensities, not what certain intensities they have. Thats big.
This is where im fuzzy.... Will there be a new SA 2d Client, or will we just use old one if we want 2d?
If we have to switch to a SA 2d client then wouldnt that take some cheaters out, for awhile?

Cheating isn't an issue usually addressed by an expansion release, it's mostly dealt with by the "Live" team.

Actually on average a new expansion usually makes cheating worse, as it brings about so many new and untested systems to abuse.

Draconi you obviously read this thread, why do you say nothing about the rampant cheating? What more do we have to do to see something done about this! We have complained, we have paged, we have given you our money, and you can't even do what we all ask. I'm happy you guys cleanred up someones concerns over "is using a horde minion to pick up gold cheating?" What about the rest of the cheating concerns?! I agree with the poster sort of, If SA comes out and it is kinda cool, i'll stick around for a little after until it is old news again, but unless something about the rampant use of speed hacking is taken care of I'll be done with uo.

The easiest way to deal with the cheating would be to have a 3d client that pleased the bulk of the players. When they get that they can then put a end date on the 2d client usage. Then new programs would have to be made for the 3d client to replace the ones for the 2d client. This would give the devs equal footing to stop it. Unlike now were they seem to be 10 years behind.

Making a 3D client that would please the bulk of players is not even remotely easy.

  14. That date would be the exact same date as my last day paying for UO.

I guess you'll have to clue me in because it's an honest question. Either that, or nobody on Siege runs 3rd party programs that make enough of a difference for it to be as blatent as on the production shards...la

  18. I have a third party program that tells me how many people are using third party programs. But it was taking up to much memory tracking things.

I got rid of it and changed to a third party program that tells me how many people ARENT using a third party program. Its faster.

Last night of 17 people at a spawn only 2 WERE NOT using a third party program.

    Ah well.

Yea i don't play seige, on some shards you can tell by a few things.

    1. Speedhacker - You can blatantly tell if someone is running something by the speed at which they move, and in some cases, skip across the screen.

    2. Medic Script - if someone is poisoned and cures the instant they are poisoned, this is a medic script, very similar to the paralyze box script where when paralyzed, this person instantly trips the box and is unstuck. People can defend themselves a bit here but if they are cured before you can see a poison (green) bar that is the most obvious, another obvious one is if you spam paralyze on someone and they kill themselves from tripping the box too much.

Others that are not realized in game but have popped up in recent screenshots by people incriminating themselves are. Thee tree stump hack (makes all tree's look like tree stumps for ease of moving through a woods. Field hack (makes common fields (fire/poison/energy etc) look like unanimated graphics or tiles for the purpose of reducing lag and creating an advantage when attempting to outfield an opponent.

This is all i have seen, and im fricken sick of it. The biggest problem is Number One though.

To me the medic scripts are more of a pain than anything. People that insta cure before you are even able to see that they are poisoned is BS. The speedhacking thing can be annoying but I get accused of it all the time. But I live in eastern VA an dping 15 on ATL and have a newer computer so I am pretty fast. :/

I never said it would be easy, and I'm a 2d user myself. I hated the original 3d client and I find KR pretty unplayable.

You're kidding right? If you did a poll of UO players I doubt very much "new content" tops the list of reasons they like the game, stay in the game, or came back to the game. If anything just the opposite... I saw firsthand the bleedout of accounts after T2A and Tram/Fel, and I heard secondhand about a lot of people being unhappy after AoS.

I came to UO to play UO. I didn't come to UO to play a lower budget imitation of WOW or EQ. If I wanted to constantly have to work my character for the next level / skill / gear cap everytime a patch or expansion came out there are bigger, better, newer games for that. That's where I feel UO has misstepped in terms of development; trying to repeatedly emulate other MMO's whose subscribers wouldn't even consider switching to UO because of the game's age and graphics, and irking a lot of us who've stayed, or returned to UO, because we're sick of the grindfests with "constant new content."

Actually you said it would be the easiest way to fix scripting.

I guess there is no easy way to fix scripting at all, but making a 3D client that the majority of the playerbase would adopt is certainly not the easiest way.

I play somewhere not endorsed by EA ATM. We dont have a cheat problem like EA, the use of 3rd party apps there is at the lowest I have seen since early 2000 on EA. Why is that? They ban peoples IP's/e-mails. They actively hunt down and ban gold sellers, the server speed cap is set to where everyone can run at the same speed reguardless of timezone. If there is any hint you may be useing a known scripting program the GMs will watch you and if found to be useing or doing something that is not within normal human response times (g-heal pot less than 1/4 sec of getting noxed) they will ban you. But for the most part with out any RL profit to be made there is no real reason to cheat there. Behind every Exploiter, Scripter, duper,Cheater there is a person who makes RL money off the deed be it them or through someone else. Start banning Brokers, Gold item sellers (IP,CC#,E-mail, Home address) you will start to see a decline in cheats and exploits.

    I disagree!

While I'm looking forward to SA, UO would be a great game even without SA. I won't even play a Gargoyle. (I'm a pirate, damnit!)

The only thing UO needed badly was a new game client. So I put all my hopes into the SA game client.

I have seen your SS...I dont think you should really speak anymore...really.

I used to think everyone who insta cured was a cheat...that is until I got a mouse I could bind pots, apples, and a box to. At that point...all it takes is hovering over the cure pot key when another person casts poison. Its not that difficult...really.

In addition, I cannot recall the number of times in game you complained about me or my mates cheating...we all [email protected]

"Put everything you have in to SA"

The problem is ..... they dont have very much.

This isnt Wrath of the Lich King you know. SA is probably being done by a first year programmer in his lunch hour. Just dont expect it to be good. Or even for it to work straight out of the box. Thats if they could actually afford to put it in a box.

    You're absolutely right Craftsman.

Much as I love Draconi, for example, (and a thousand times sorry if I'm wrong about this, and I may very well be! /disclaimer), as I understand it he was dropped in with basically no games industry experience, and now he's the lead designer.

Actually he's blatently doing a great job and I don't think there's anything intrinsically wrong with that method of hiring, and I think most of the dev team are great people at heart, but UO is definitely the sort of project that EA drop their low/no skill/experience entry level workers into.

If I remember rightly, a lot of the SE art was done by INTERNS gaining work experience ;)

Sometimes interns, people with no experience in the gaming industry, and recent graduates from college can give us the best games :D

Just because they are low level workers doesn't mean they can't do good work.

Yes well unfortunately this wasn't the case with the SE art ;) (imo - although to be fair we've seen much worse since)

  39. I like the SE art. Especially the Rune Beetle.

I am only talking about 2D. Everything in KR looks like it was hastily drawn by an art class at a school for the blind.

While having a good client, enabling to bring new blood into the game, might be a part of the solution, the main problem is their long lasting inability to fix bugs.

I bet their point of vue is that the old client itself is the source of many bugs (stacks of obsolete code interacting in unkown ways). But during the ten years i played i have seen lot of people leaving just because of annoying bugs not or never being fixed. It is a good thing for the game that they are working for a new client, but they should also try to keep people in the game.
