Put your money where your mouth is!

Discussion in 'UO Siege Perilous' started by imported_Death of Hemp, Feb 21, 2008.

  1. To everyone who continually argues that taming is balanced for pvp; I am giving you one weeks notice. My mage tamer will be done in less than one week. I challenge anyone who says that taming and stealth do not need fixed, to come put your money where your mouth is!

I will fight anyone who does not use taming or hiding, for up to 1 mil, on my mage/stealth/tamer. Now I already know that some noob is going to say that "duels" in a close environment doesn't determine balance. After I get done laughing at that notion, since hundreds of thousands of players for the last ten years have agreed that an 8x8 tile area is best to for a fair duel, I will go ahead and grant your ridiculous notion to make the field larger.

    Rules;
#1) Area will be expanded from the 8x8 area that hundreds of thousands of players agree to be the proper size for dueling, to an area that extends from Bagball arena to luna wall, and from south gate to sw corner (should be plenty of room to show me how easy it is to lead pets away and kill a tamer).

#2) My opponent is not allowed to use taming or hiding, since these are the very skills that people claim can be beatin by others and therefore is currently balanced.

#3) I am allowed to use anything currently legal and I am allowed to start the fight hidden. This means I can start the fight hidden, swinging a bola and I'm allowed to use petballs. I am also aloud to use smoke bombs since I am only looking to fight against people who argue that taming and smoke do not need balancing. Since I have magery, I am also aloud to spam teleport with my pet balls, and I'm aloud to use any animal forms I choose, my opponent is also aloud to use animal forms as long as they do not hide or leave the designated area to keep running in one direction.

Who will be first to put their money where their mouth is?

Ugh... this is soo dumb its not even funny...

first, the people who think taming is balanced for PvP are the tamers... and the people who agree with you are pretty much anyone you're asking to fight you for 1 mil...

how in the hell is that supposed to work?

I thought of that but, you have to read through previous posts to understand where I'm coming from.

When I ask for logical evidence that taming and smoke bombs are balanced as is; I usually get a response about how so and so kills tamers 1 vs 1 all the time. Hattori posted that taming is balanced and his proof was that his guildmate, Righty, regularly kills tamers by himself on his mage.

So thats how this post is supposed to work. I am not so much coming up with a general challenge, as much as I am giving people, who already said they or someone they know can win this fight, a chance to come and prove it.

Hattori's a tamer... and you didn't find that ironic?

and I call [censored] on Righty unless he's fighting a tamer like King Edward because Eds nothing but cannon fodder....

Hey man I didn't make any claims. I hate fighting tamers. I think its [censored] fighting tamers. And theres no way in hell i'm doing to place 1m on a duel against a tamer

It would be possible to beat you but you would have to have one of those Pvm Sampire chars from prodo shards with an uber suit. They can kill Paragon balrons and dread horn etc solo. Fighting a good stealth tamer is like fighting 3-4 people, without smokebombs you are toast. The new dragons are one shot killers alot of the time, so they are even more fun.

Actually, this is a silly notion because dueling does not show any skill other than motor and "twitch" reactions.

Field PvP requires more teamwork (even if fighting 2v2 and such) and definitely tactics (equipment, terrain advantage, ambush/press forward/retreat)

Also on the equipment and tactics note, field PvP requires more in that dueling has a million silly restrictions that noone can ever agree on.

Using poison/pots/summons/hiding/invis/fields/tamers and fighting against same with teammates (or gods forbid, solo!) definitely requires more skill than running around an 8x8 square with half the game's skills and abilities nerfed.

    IMO

P.S. You guys are starting to sound like Masumatek in his early stages...it scares me

He's just trying to prove a point. Tamers with stealth/ninja are over powered.
They don't need to be made defenseless, but the pet balls and running at mount speed hidden needs to change.

You have captured exactly why duels are for duelers and mean little in regard to everyday battle and game play. There is nothing wrong with dueling for those who find it fun. However, it is just a fraction of what this game has to offer. Some love the dueling side of the game, others have no part in it... hell some don't even like fights at all.

Anyone "running at mount speed hidden" any further than the run step maximum limit based on stealth skill points (about 9 steps) is cheating.

Show me someone who kicks ass at dueling but utterly sucks at field pvp?

I can show you many who demonstrate the reverse...

I'm pretty sure dueling proves a whole lot more than you think...

Don't get me wrong. Dueling does show a lot about a person's ability to run the templates that lend themselves to duels. These players should be, and are normally, good (even great) in the field. But the ability to win duels does not simply equate to success in other situations.

I have always beleived in a sort of rock/paper/scissors method of determining pvp balance. Any template that can not be killed by a template consisting of different skills, one vs one, is a strong indication of unbalance (IMHO). I have no problem with taming, just a few minor tweaks that I think would make a huge difference. If I made the same challenge without pet balls or smoke bombs, I bet a lot of people would accept with confidence.

If someone has always played a tamer, then I can understand how they may not see any problems because they only have seen one side. This post isn't really about dueling anyone as much as its about making people think. The idea is when there is gold on the line, people will think a little harder.

I understand your point Death. It’s just that to someone who has never been into duels at all, it is not even important who can win one. I have always played in the field. For a long time I lost more often than win, but I gave my all mostly in large battles. Now I die most often when trying to help someone avoid being killed or looted. Dueling skills don't help me in that regard and would not even if I was something other than a tamer.

And you are completely right about my perspective. I admit I have always been a tamer here and that affects my view on these matters. It also gives me more insight than most into the weaknesses of a tamer. I don't share these secrets much as it would not be beneficial to my already fragile health!
