Just out of curiosity, being as the booster is less than a week away from release, how many people are going to waste (errr I mean generously donate to a good cause) their money on the High Seas? Personally, I will not be buying it unless something is introduced that actually adds something for players who enjoy fel.

From what I understand it introduces ship to ship combat. That must be Fel based. Or are you one of those who thinks that the only "real" pvp is a mage duel?

Not immediately. Once some bugs have been worked out, I'll probably purchase it for one or two accounts. Don't plan to purchase it for the other two.

First of all, you still cannot reasonably do anything while on a moving ship, which means any form of PvP will have to be conducted while standing still, which means you might as well just go to land where you can move. Secondly, there is absolutely no incentive from what I've read about it for anyone to even go to fel. Are people just supposed to hop on a boat and sail randomly until they meet one another? I mean, I know how unimaginative the UO developers can be, but at the very least couldn't they have introduced some kind of champ spawn or something to encourage PvP? And I decided I was not going to buy the expansion when I saw they still didn't synchronize character/boat movement. I was extremely disappointed.

No, booster looks ok but see no reason to subscribe to uo.
I know though most people I play with will buy it, so could sail with them?

Make it what it is...a pub...not worth 15$ for 3 ships and a few fish buffs..

Yaya 20% extra housing storage also...
LVL 7 maps are not worth it....

Ya, but most people are so desperate for something to do in UO they will buy just about anything...I don't really blame them.

Funny, I never have trouble finding something to do. I will be buying the expansion on the release date, but since I am busy doing so many other things I may not get to the content until November or so.

You forgot an option: "I'll buy it if EA throws in a unique "early purchase" bonus and then forgets to turn it off so I can still get the bonus by purchasing the booster six months from now at a reduced price."

So by your statement you don't play UO or you are one of the desperate. I am buying it for the storage upgrade and the rest is just extra. Don't buy it, that is up to you but I don't see where you get off for putting people down for buying it.

Are you saying the 57th Medusa is just as fun as the 1st? Either you are a very different creature or haven't played UO nearly as much as most.

I pretty much did everything there was in the SA expansion in about a week or so...fishing would probably last me maybe 15 minutes of "wow, why do I still play this game?". And then I remember for PvP...whatever that is anymore.

I'll likely get 2 per payday... till all are covered... but not so much for the content as for the storage. Since most my homes are busting at the seams.

I won't be buying it. Maybe in the future, definitely not now.

No incentive, the pirate theme doesn't appeal to me. They are releasing it buggy just so they can push it out the door, which is unacceptable on every level. All those together makes for one unappealing booster... though I do believe as a whole the seas did need more attention for those who like that kind of thing.

LOL UOGamecodes sell the storage for $20 so how is this insane. Saves $5. You're just a big troll that tries to put down anybody that doesn't agree with all your whining. Grow up or quit, UO would be better off without you.

I will probably upgrade 2-3 accounts. Unless they have a discounted 5-pack offer to entice me to upgrade the others like when they released ML.

Just to add, I did the same thing for SA because there was no package for that too.

I, for one, think I may have to give my first UO expansion a complete and total pass. While I accept that the bank space and housing space increase are a good value, I'm honestly tired of allowing the UO Dev Team to release half-tested, incomplete expansions, no matter their scope and scale. Unless someone reports that the live version of UO:AHS is free of glitches for all passengers of boats, and that they have fixed 99% of the bugs that were raised during beta, I'm afraid they'll have to keep this one for themselves.

I'm honestly done demonstrating to them that it's okay by purchasing these expansions. There are still areas of SA that are incomplete and inaccessible -- save on some shards where EMs have created false ways over there -- and yet we're on to the next expansion.

Accepting sub-par development simply because it's "good enough" is no longer good enough for me. This time I'll veto with my dollars and not purchase the expansion until it is worthy of doing so, and I certainly encourage others to do the same. Regardless of scope, pre-alpha to live in 1.5 months is unacceptable; ignoring bug reports and going live under the pretense they'll be fixed after launch is unacceptable with the current track record of a failure to do so in recent situations (ignoring the long history of development teams doing the same); and purchasing this, and thereby saying, "I'm okay with this," is also unacceptable.

I hate to do it, because I had high hopes for UO:AHS... but, you know, after years of a failure in the ability to deliver complete products, I'm done with false faith.

My skill in Faith has been terminated.

    Just a question...
Why would I ever want to buy that ships booster pack if I have no way of interacting with players on sea, as there will be no one sailing in Felucca?

I don`t mean the ocassional guy and his boat somehwere far in the sea once a week, I mean something more massive.

Are there any quests/bosses on sea, that exist only in Felucca?

Couldn't agree more...just another reason I will not be purchasing this "booster". I don't see how they believe that they're doing us a favor by moving toward booster rather than expansion development. The only thing that tells me is that even less time and resources are being put into the development of UO, and it is one step closer to the grave...

At least he might actually take the time when he starts a thread to be aware of what he's starting a thread on, instead of just using it as yet another excuse to complain about how UO has betrayed you, and insulting everyone as insane who disagrees with you...You don't even know if there's a champ spawn at sea (there is, how have you managed to miss all the artwork they've published?) and think you'll be sailing about randomly (There's a ship tracking mechanism in game). There's also island hunts at sea and... but why bother explaining that to you when you haven't even taken the time to research what you want to criticise? Whether the expansion will be buggy or not is an entirely different question, and a fair reason to hold off on buying it... a lot of people who have tried it on the Test Server say it is; but if there's no PvP at sea it's because you lazy dinosaurs won't get off your ass and go to sea looking for new ways to fight when it comes out, in what ever condition it's in.

Likewise, when they finally patch arenas in, if it doesn't attract people to it, it'll be your own damn fault again. You'll have the ability to pre-arrange duelling conditions, and do it in front of an audience too... but it won't work if you just refuse to go there because it's not some puritanical "It's Not True Duelling" nonsense. And of course, if as we all expect the usual suspects just use the audience to trash talk like these most vocal morons think General Chat is for, no one new will bother coming to watch either... much less consider popping over to Fel to explore the even harsher experience.

Meanwhile, the Devs have, over the years, continued to bend over backwards to try and keep Fel alive. They put the power scrolls there. The Harrower is there. Double resources... Now ship to ship combat and arenas, but for you, the tiny slice out of a small minority of UO gamers it's never going to be enough. Which is your right to feel that way... but don't expect anyone to respect that attitude, when it's so clearly so utterly selfish and unreasonable. You want new experiences? Take the risk of getting out of your little comfort zones, and go get the reward of being the first to master something new...

Um... isn't there a new champion with the new expansion?
I think you guys are very uninformed... there is supposed to be a new Champion, boats, bounty system, new fish, new MIB stuff and so on.
I agree that I probably won't buy immediately, maybe after some fixes come out, but I agree with Radian. I'm tired of supporting buggy UO releases. They need to take more time testing things out and actually listen, because they already release things to test center that are bugged, that players report, and still put them to the main shard.

Uhm, didn't the put powerscrolls into Felucca because of the highlevel content to get them?
    Harrower is Championspawn?
*wonders how UO raid dungeons actually would look like*

How does double ressources help Felucca gameplay which is most of your opinion either champion (highlevel pve or some say pvp) or pure pvp?

And will arenas not be in Trammel & Felucca?
    Is just a duelling arena.

And did they actually work on factions?

The boat pvp will be mostly used by warring guilds, I see many roleplayers using it for the fun of it. PvP ship combat is probably better in Pirates of the Burning seas or Uncharted Waters online.

    :)

And no I have not been to Felucca for uhm P16?

As someone with a few hours a night for UO. Testing during what little time I have is not an option. Needs to be released in what ever state for some true hardcore testing. So as part of this player group I will buy it and grope around and enjoy its newness. Theese boosters as small as they are need to be kept secret and just released when they feel it is time. Let the community (Mainly Here and on Chat) explore a booster's release and all it has to offer. Beta Test is just a way for some to figure out some new abuse and say nothing so they can take advantage of the mechanics and other players till they fix the unbalanced feature. Like Relic Frags - enough said. I try to aviod reading up on what I experience in UO till I get stuck, do to the in game story line lacking enough info to carry on. There just need to be more ingame additions that are stumbled on and players can do/use. Like being the first to find a server up item - Shout it out on chat OR Milk sales off a vendor till someone else from another shard tattles.

Great example of something that just pops up without notice and huge community HubBub. Moonstone jewelry and all the grinding it brought on. The catus feature for plant growers (should of slipped something new on the colored Bonsi to gather.) Compassion Juice.

So what if this boost is like putting a huge down force spoiler on a Prius. The effect is still cool. I will buy it like some said for the housing boost and the rest is freebi. Really the housing boost is the candy coating for a jagged pill that will still taste good. If the Black Marlin hits nearly as rare as the moonstone jewelry there is an easy 30mil and a way to trap scripters like fish in a barrel.

Can you imagine the outcry if they released this when they felt its time without a beta? They ARE releasing it 'when they think its time'... which is it being released still saddled too early and a bunch of bugs. Beta Test is a great way about finding out what does and doesn't work. There have been numerous issues already caught and/ or changed due to players input.

I recently went through all my stuff and dumped a great deal of it to see what I might actually need. With imbuing it's down to imbuing ingredients and decoration & rares now. Oh, and brightly colored anything to sit at luna with on my purple cu sidhe.

As for ordering the booster...meh. I have other things to do first:

    1.) Civilization V
    2.) Fallout: New Vegas
3.) Catacl.....erm....uhh...Wait! Who we talkin about? :eyes:

Love ya Petra but your statement is entirely what is wrong with UO. No gamer should have to play(much less pay for) a game with bugs they can live with or work around.

  39. canary

    canary Guest

Agreed. The thought should be 'we are getting the out right' instead of 'we are getting this out right now'. A consumer shouldn't even have to deal with that kind of mentality, and it is a free pass for the dev team. Unacceptable.

I mean, let's not fool ourselves. This thing is being literally pushed out the door. As Ra'Dian said, you just don't do pre-Alpha to release in 1.5 months.

Ship to ship combat is pretty awesome. We've had several playtests here in the studio and we've had a blast with it. There is a bonus to doing Corgul the Soulbinder in Felucca since you get better SoTs. We are looking at giving players other incentives to do the content in Felucca. Hopefully this will encourage more awesome ship battles.

I also see alot of concern here about the bugs. Killing bugs is a never ending battle that us developers fight every day. Please keep in mind that the last publish you guys got to see was built on 9/30. Even though that was only a week ago, our team has been 100% focused on bugs and we have fixed over 140 bugs since then. I actually pulled that number from our bug tracking software.

I just have to say that you guys have currently built yourself a reputation for long, long standing bugs, half finished content and the inability to release ready products. Heck, you just introduced a new t-map system that was intentionally released not fully working and were OK with it, you admitted as much on stratics. Please don't tell me that you don't see that as a glaring issue from a consumer standpoint?? How do you expect people to fully support something from the shoddily put together work that you've released?

lol too true. i missed out on SA, 2 of my friends got Vollums and I got zilch. I don't know why, I purchased my expansion BEFORE either of them. of course, UO wouldn't do anything about it - its just random bad luck I didn't get what everyone else did. lame

as for this expansion if you havent already bought the space upgrade im sure its an amazing bonus to get the space bonus and new content.

as for me, i already bought the space bonus upgrade and even if it stacks, im not having space issues right now so its debateable. i suppose ill have to wait to see if there is anything good in it and how bad the bugs are.

still cant believe they had a 2 week beta.. gimme a break.. quality control people...

  45. There's a pretty big difference between you testing something and players using something. Namely all of the crafting process and all of the resource gathering process.

Where you can create what you need and test it in minutes it takes an actual player hours. Given that most people have a limited amount of time to play that's going to directly affect how much of a 'blast' it is.

  46. Babble

    Babble Guest

No, idea about the crafting process.
But normally when crafting just make enough of it?

I think the reagents are not rare so people will either make it themselves (timesinks are good as they keep people playing - those who are annoyed about timesinks left years ago) or will buy it as other crafters will make it.

  47. UOKaiser

    UOKaiser Guest

We crafters need something to do. Maybe this will add to our enjoyment when other players need it. We spend most of our game time making things and we running out of things to make so maybe this will help. Now to see if it's worth our time.

I shall wait for some guild mates to purchase this and after some time I shall decide if I need it.

As for ship combat I could only see this as viable if there is something it revolves around like champs or a shard wide email saying Picus's big bad red roxxered some random newb tailor. Granted I have not had a slight intrest in this expansion but if new PvP content is inside I'd be more so.

GL dev team, how's that speed hack fix coming along?

Yes Yes Yes. The INPUT reported is like a "ship gets hung up on all the colored serp corpse but the blue the ones" but not out of beta testing will be heard "ship going north or south not stopped by sand and allows disembarking into non public houses if on or close to the sand" would be an EXAMPLE of how testing is covered. Your clipped quote makes a small target leaving out my other points. SA release in its form was a great example out the gate of players doing things discovered on test and never reported. Then you have a small group that goes out to the main shards and drains the market of what they found and not reported before release. Open beta test can limit this but really not.

I fully had agreed they need to release something that is playable. I just don't like the open doors that testing offers. A play on test discovers at the new forge they stand in a certain spot with an agi lantern in hand, and make daggers out of iron smelted get 3 agi ingots in their pack per dagger made, would never get reported. They want player imput and to do testing? They need to go ingame and snatch random players doing related task to any update. Offer them chance to get on a private test shard and code thier account right then access. Then through a crier tell them this, this and that needs looking into. Whoever finds the most flaws will get something shinny for there main character in shard of choice. Like a Blaze Orange Ostard would be no biggy. Something so unique that if sold be worth more then they could make off any glitch. As test is now the mondain is reported and the exploits of game mechanics is traded.

UO is indeed EA's cash cow.

    Consider yourselves all milked. Again.
