PVP TOGGLE: A Civil Subject

Discussion in 'UHall' started by RavenWinterHawk, Dec 23, 2010.

  1. PvP is fun. Not as fun as it once was.

Sometimes boring with insurance and all that.

Is there a problem of removing PvP tags from facets and just letting us toggle. Yes or No on our characture?

I would find it easier to have PvP characture that can travel everywhere, red, blue or gray but could only attack other PvP toggle players.

Why does everything have to be tied to a facet?

What is the benefit to only allowing it in Fel.?

Right now isn't factions only count in fel (i believe) why not make them alive on all shards? via toggle option.

Just seems like a simplification is in order for player fighting.

I would go as far to add benefits for being a PvPer. And before you moan keep in mind, you would have 6 charactures. If you make one PvPer, you get the benefits too.

Just wondering why it isn't a toggle on each characture?

There is more to Trammel than a pvp toggle.
Pushthrough was removed so you cannot block a player in ...

The thing I don't understand is why not make all players in Felucca grey and freely attackable, do away with guardzones and make it a pvp facet and not call it a pvm facet.

  3. Ah thats right I remember the change.
Actually should be turned back on in some capacity. Let wrestling make it easier to push through.

Or let push threw happen but staminia goes down. More you go through more you become exhausted.

But I can hear the cries already.

Trammel was specifically made that no player can harm or is allowed to disturb their gameplay.
Is why luring is illegal in Trammel while legal in Felucca.

A pvp switch does not help if that mind setting is still in the developers.

Though i agree that they went over the top with Trammel, as i miss pushthrough and still don't understand why mages are not attacked by their own Enery Vortexes...

I agree, and just made a post about toggle. there's so much waste in the lands, the lands are dieing

  6. Yep, you could turn Fel into a ruined lands with more exploration or something. Or whatever.

Uhm you are taking from the pvpers then with such a toggle.
Why not make explortion in Ilsh, Trammel, Tokuno?

    I mean I don't like pvpers either but ... :p

Isn't that what Trammel was created for? So now since servers are dead you wanna condense the lands and totally negate PvP? This is the current "mindset" of UO players now...

    Cough Cough Cough COUGH!!!!!

Gentelmen please.... I happen to live in Fel... that said I dont want to have my homes turned into a forsaken land!! A great deal of my muti-shard homes are in Fel. I never moved out when they opened trammel. Yes I do have trammel homes and malas ones as well, but my most beloved homes are in Fel.

The original idea for character toggle switch was requested years ago back before 1999. Players wanted a way to stop unwanted pking and pvping on players who didnt want it. The Dev at the time refused to listen to the request and later Dev's invented Factions to distract.

    Personaly the idea has merrit.

A simple paper doll button like the war mode button that allows you to see what mode your in. With a few tweeks for the complainers of toggleing in and out too fast I'd install a timer that you will remain in "mode" for 5 minutes after you toggle off. This would stop the complaints mid stream from the pvp comunity.

Take Fel out of the pvp/pk sphere and open it back up to players turn it to trammel rule set, fix graphics for land clearance(the tombstone removal and refoliate the trees).
The button would make sense. Red's could partisapate in trammel events without bounds cause they would be "safe".

This would also make the EM events more shard friendly as they could be held anywhere.

This is a great idea thats been too long in the making.

The whole reason PvP in UO is so fun is because people don't have a choice...you either defend yourself or die. Doing what you propose is just one more step toward all the other trashy mmo's out there *cough* WoW *cough*.

  11. I like some of the ideas in this thread, but I'm gonna throw my vote to this one. Get rid of guardzones in felucca, or maybe just have one non-faction town that is guarded where a blue can go to trade with a red or something. For the love of god, get rid of all the guard zones around the T2A entrances, and the moongates, etc.

Of course, if this were the case there wouldn't be much need for murder counts, but I think this would do a lot to get rid of griefing and ganking. My reasoning is that serious pvpers aren't interesting in ganking (well not normally, because it's just not that fun); and that ganks arise from people who just hang out in guard zones until they see they have overwhelming numbers before attacking. Make them freely attackable at all times and these dumbasses go away.

I can see the problem with this suggestion also. It might make felucca even deader that it already is, which wouldn't be a good result.

Keep in mind i am only ok with these changes as long as fel stays the same. You go there and there is no toggle, y ou can just be killed. People should have risk at champ spawns and resource gathering, etc. Leave fel alone and add me to the other facets in limited capacity is fine.

Is there a problem of removing PvP tags from facets and just letting us toggle. Yes or No on our characture?

    Q. I would find it easier to have PvP characture that can travel everywhere, red, blue or gray but could only attack other PvP toggle players.
    A. I wouldn't mind going anywhere with my pvper. Would be fun. But at the end of the day it will kill pvp. Realistically, nobody will use this. Either you pvp or you don't. This will not increase random encounters at the end of the day. Pvpers now have been forced into specific zones and nonpvpers will not use this. What this does is open up more area for the few pvpers to find just a few people. Now it goes from finding a needle in haystack to finding the one needle in five hastacks.

    Q. Why does everything have to be tied to a facet?
    A. Always been a risk vs reward game. Fel has the greatest rewards because of pvp (scrolls, faction arties, resources, etc). You want the better stuff, take the risk to get it.

Q.What is the benefit to only allowing it in Fel.?
    A. It keeps people who do not want to take part in it from seeing and hearing or being affected by it. I can hear people now complaining about the all out fight between 2 groups at and event. It is about disrpution to another playstyle and has always been about this. This is why they created the second land.

Q.Right now isn't factions only count in fel (i believe) why not make them alive on all shards? via toggle option.
    A. Better response. If you are in factions, you are attackable anywhere. This will keep those faction leeches from getting the arties and not participating in faction fights/town defense/etc.

    Q. Just seems like a simplification is in order for player fighting.
    A. Not really. It is simple as simple can be. You step through a red gate and you can be attacked. Your way is actually more complicated than the current system.

Let us not forget about field rules, walls, efeilds, para fields, area damage, etc. This will have to be worked out in a non fel facet.

The OP wanted to give something in order to receive something, your post turns it around to make it so reds and pvpers just receive.

The origional poster wasn't giving anything. Just adding and easy button for people in fel (if they chose to use it)and adding a not so easy button for people in tram if they choose to participate. Granted allowing me access to other lands would be nice and I would play by the rules of that land. However, everyone has access to my lands already and plays by the rules of fel.

Really, nobody who pvps would want to allow people into it that plays by a different set of rules. This is just and attempt in my mind to allow people to come to fel with no risk. It is just nicely disguised. It is really an all one sided proposal to allow people to get all the rewards of a facet without the cost. However, i did answer the OP questions with from my perspective in a civil way (as the post indicated it wanted).

And my proposal is just as one sided as the origional poster. The reds get to go other places, but people who play tram that want to pvp not in fel can now. The fel players got something and so did the tram players.

what about all the other side things like people healing a pvp person but unattackable?

it would probably have to have a timer on the toggle as mentioned so you cant attack people and toggle out of being attacked back. I would put the timer as a lot longer (maybe 1 hr?).
you would probably have things put you into auto pvp toggle like casting friendly spells on anyone already in pvp mode. casting any area effects or barding effects etc etc

If you could simply toggle an option to engage in PVP, then everyone would have it set to no unless they are willing to fight. They would obviously have it set to no at house decays, champion spawns, events, hunting monsters and everywhere else.

In Everquest a PVP toggle worked because that game was all about PvM. You didn't play Everquest expecting some great PvP. World of Warcraft decided to split the servers so you can choose PvM or PvP, but you are stuck with your choice. UO splits PVP into restricted areas which I think is fine.

Point blank period, it's a horrible idea...people will exploit it and PvP when it "benefits" them...

You people have insurance and trammel what more else you need?

You want WoW go play WoW...there's no point in trying to "change" UO there's no piont in naming it World of UOCraft...no one wants to play a 2D version of WoW that has ****ty customer service along with other ****ty aspects...UO is different, sadly AOS made it item dependent and it was downhill from there...

UO should be trying to strive for skill based yet here we are gearing towards item based and failing miserably...

  18. sure in theory.
Fel is really hopping with activity.

Might be the Pvpers would stay Pvpers and move around.

Not much but dust bunnies in fel.

I suppose they could beef up some new stuff with the champ spawns there.

  19. Whats WoW?

  20. True. Maybe go beyond with benefits for being PvP turned on. Create risk for the Reward. Give them a boost, where they risk dieing.

Maybe if you are (as simple as this) PvP toggled on you have a chance for a drop at any boss monster that PvP toggled offs dont have.

    Risk and Reward

What makes you think Fel would not be empty? Once trammel came to prodo servers what was left for a real pvp'er to do? All the care bears stayed for trammel...

Why do you think you would qualify for better rewards just because you pvp and others dont. Face it, there are a lot of reasons people do just not WANT to pvp in uo at all. I just do not state them here because it would lead to another pointless flame war.

Apart from that, i think nothing speaks against a pvp toggle switch in tram, ilshenar, malas , tokuno and ter mur if the devs are able to do it right and do not do some halfway_done_cheap_workaround_solution_because_we_lack_resources like the last publish was.
