Question: Invising someone who is purposely annoying the masses, bannable?

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Bill Gates OSD, Sep 18, 2010.

what are you talking about, OP?Explain pls.

  2. The facts:

1: Person A was in the middle of Luna bank beating an animal with a weapon to work Bushido.

2: I asked if he would move away because it was annoying. He was randomly running back and forth hitting the animal. He didn't respond so I invis'd him.

3: He started talking shortly after the invis wore off so I asked him to stop. He refused so I invis'd him again.

4: He said if I did it again, he'd page on me so, I did it again and often. I mean, the only reason to do that at the bank is to annoy those who are there or who come there. He claims he paged on me.

5: Someone partied me and told me that it was bannable but other statements that person made lead me to believe that they were not being honest.

I guess I'll have to wait and see how this hashes out. If I get banned for it, so be it.

    carebear stuff.wish I hadn`t read it.

p.s I mean, if nowadays even interacting with players is bannable, then I dunno what else to say.Perhaps that other game to which I might move, if I get banned for being wreckless enough to interact with someone, will be more exciting.

I believe it comes under the harassment rule.

Interesting to see the invising pets counts too, As a tamer at EM events it's very hard to control pets, Especially when you go through gates and people start invising your dragon - These people will find that if they stepped out the way to give the pet a way to get out the crowd I could park it at the back. :p

Physical Harassment Physical harassment, or grief play, is harassment that distresses or aggravates other players, and consists solely of actions, rather than speech or text. Physical harassment must be witnessed by a GM to be judged as valid. If the harassment call is received after the grief play is no longer occurring, we cannot verify the validity of the call.

Before you submit a harassment complaint, be sure you understand what constitutes harassment and that you have followed these steps:
•You have asked the player to "please stop" (and then they have continued to repeat the offending behavior).
•You have tried to remove yourself from the situation, for example, by recalling away or moving several screens.
•You have done nothing to instigate or further encourage the harassment.
•You have added the player to your ignore list, which is located in your UO options, under Filter Options.
•You have read and understand Electronic Arts' definition of harassment, and Electronic Arts' Terms of Service.
•Your account information is up to date (including a current email address).

Under these rules both parties are guilty.
The person training never tried to remove himself from the situation.
What I find intersting is the person training did not speak until the invis wore off. UMMING maybe. Ummm

I think this is quite a grey area. There are times when well meaning players invis each other and their pets for good reason - they think that person/pet is in danger or they're refusing to move and blocking players from seeing something like a corpse.

Simply invising someone once should never result in a ban, however I wouldn't do it repeatedly because in honesty it's as annoying to watch invis spam as it is to watch the idiot training on his llama.

I'd just bank somewhere other than luna if you want peace and quiet. Let's face it, if he's parking up there training and takes a while to respond to something, it's only a matter of time before a well meaning citizen tries reporting him for afk macroing ;)

They included pets because when pets cant see you or if they are invised, the rate at which loyalty drops is increased. If a person is sitting at brit/luna bank and goes afk, which is not illegal as long as they arnt doing any actions whatsoever and you invis their pet or them you can cause it to leave its master.

Really folks?? really??? Ok someone casts invs on me..I MOVE..guess what it goes away...Heck I would figure its just someone who was training magery....

besides when it comes to griefing..we all know what that is about... :D

if a GM comes to ya..say hey I was just training magery..and he was showing as fast as I cast on him, so I figured he was a live target and not an idler :D

Are you the King of Britannia? He has a right to do what he wants in Luna. If you don't like it, leave. Yes, this is harassment and can get you a mark.

    Sure is bannable.

Some years ago I was involved in a transaction with player 1. We were discussing the price of said items and such, then attempted to make the transaction which would involve several window trades. Along comes player 2 and parks his WW on top of us. Player 1 and I move to try and make the transaction and player 2 moves and parks his dragon on us again. We ask player 2 to stop, move to another spot and player 2 does it again. Frustrated, I invis the WW and player 2 proceeds to tell me that its a bannable offense to invis his pet. I said well, if you would let us finish our transaction, I wouldn't have to. I ask him to stop and again he refuses, so I invis the pet again. Player to cries harrassment again and continues with his nonsense. I try to get player 1 to meet me at another bank, but player 2 cannot recall or sacred journey, so I hope that player 2 will give up and just let us go about or business and open a gate... player 2 hops the gate. Player 1 and I stay and get part of the transaction done, but player 2 comes back and starts in again. I invis the pet again and this entire bit continues for another 5 minutes or so until I am whisked off to jail where a GM tells me that if I do not stop invising the pet, I will be banned for harrassment.

I explain why I was invising the pet and the steps I took to alleviate the situation and all the GM can say is that if that were the case that I should have paged first, but as he saw it, I was the one doing the harrassing.

This type of stupidity is just one more thing that turns me off this game. Hopefully one of these days I'll just quit completely. One out of five accounts remain open at this point. *sigh*

Yes it is bannable. Just because you find someone training annoying doesn't mean you have the right to make him leave. Heck, he may not even be trying to annoy people and actually training and you casting invis on him and/or his pet is interfering with his training.

Um, I just wanted to ask whether killing someone in Felucca is bannable, or stealing from them, their animal or their corpse.
You see, I um, sometimes go to, umm Fel, and sometimes I um, so to say, kill people. So, um, I wish to know whether it`s bannable, so um, I dont wanna get in trooble, um, I guess you understand.

  16. Yes, I am the King of Britannia. rolleyes: Do you want to attempt to use a bank with someone working Bushido on a pet complete with the whiplash sound and the clang of a sword hitting said creature repeatedly? Yes, in the future I'll use another bank but, this guy was doing this specifically to annoy those who use the bank there and/or hang out there. I can put spammers on ignore but unless I turn the sound off, I have to hear the sounds. Capiche?

Just as much as its his right to train there it is your right to leave if you don't like it. Sure, there may be countless areas for him to train, but there are also countless areas for you to bank at. I dunno... out of all the things to be sore about this isn't, imo, high on the list.

    ...yes really.

It has caused people to be banned in the past which other replies in this have said the same. It is bannable. And in case you're unaware, that last part isn't exactly enforced to be able to take action against harassment. In fact, I don't think it ever was.

  20. they should remove beneficial acts in trammel unless partied. won't be long until ressing someone, healing someone, or blessing will be considered harrassment and bannable.

i quite don`t get why in-game acts done by in-game means should be punished by such a hard punishment as the ban.could someone explain?

And, also, if they are so eager to ban for such things as "harrasment", then people stop complaining about the playerbase being thin and dwindling.

Regarding the invising of people, The person needs to continually do it even after being asked to stop. So if they want to do that it's their own fault and deserve the hard punishment - which isn't really that hard if you have no marks on your account anyway.

Hard punishment? Can you concieve of any situation whatsoever where someone should be banned for invissing someone, any situation where someone deserves to lose hundreds of hours of work for invissing someone? Really?

I don't care who you are or what you do but your character's visability to others is completely meaningless and your insistence that it somehow causes you distress enough to warrent a ban is completely idiotic.

(nods) agree with Korik. As they say in my country, law is blind.
And I dont mean 'dura lex, sed lex', I mean the stupid, malevolent cruelty which some people in charge my express towards simple players/users.
ESPECIALLY on the internet. Not that I whine about it, I actually am happy that I can see their misery and draw on it, untill,(if I get the chance) I make them rage.It always ends the same way for me, but you can`t ban an internet ninja forever.I shall return, because I see the weaklings, I know what they think.
I didnt intend it to sound like some stupid bad guy from a movie, but certain people in charge sometimes act really stubborn. They think that their position as mod/admin/game master/etc gives them the privelege to stomp others with their power.Well, it actually gives o_O.

I`ve been reading trough the forum and with horror and dismay learned that there are INCOMPETENT GMs, or at least many players say that at times GMs act incompetent and lack knowledge of the game.
I mean, I really were horrified.

I have asked to stop being killed in fel by people...should I call a GM on them? or just maybe practice pvp...Na, I'll always suck :p

And back in the golden days of UO I have asked folks to leave me alone and NOT do horrible things to my corpse after Im dead...
Should a GM ban them too?

I mean seriously now...Its a game..To many freaking rules...and this is probally one of the many reasons for the changes over the years...

But even talking about using a spell on someone...ggeeezz....

and people wonder why we can't have a classic shard...to many stupid rules trying to please everyone and the game is dieing a very slow death.......

Im all for the rule on if you say beep beep.,..or hey stick beep beep..Or racist slurs...thats when this rule is suppose to come into play...
Not just because someone is annyoning you...Heck thats what is half the fun of UO ..annoying people...If ya can't kill em with a sword...Bug em :D to tears...

As the Blond hair lady said...STOP THE INSANITY!!!!! :D

I've used the bank when people are working Bushido there. I'm not so uptight as to be bothered by it. After all, I hear the same sounds when a big horde goes hunting on EM Events. Do you complain about that too? Some people get annoyed when they see someone spamming about an item they are selling at the bank. Being annoyed is one thing and everyone is allowed to be annoyed at whatever they want, but if you choose to interfere with someone else, then you are the bad guy. It's like saying some guy on a cell phone at a restaurant annoys you, but if you put your hands on him, that's assault. And yes, you can turn down your sound. Capiche?

To further add, where would it stop? What if someone were annoyed with a person training poisoning at the bank? What if someone were annoyed with the blacksmithing sound that goes on by the smithy there? What if someone were annoyed with a dragon roaring as a tamer tells it to stay while they bank?

This is ridiculous! I alwys try to invis the idiots who stand with their swampie right in front of our EM who tries to give a speech. If I get banned for that after 11 years, well... good riddance then.

Read the OP's explanation of what happened. It's different. You're invising someone who is griefing, whose griefing is interfering with your gameplay. Did the griefer ask you to stop? If no, then it's already different.

As for the OP, he's interrupting someone's training simply because of his annoyance. In essence, he's griefing someone who is training by interrupting them.

First off, hanging out at Luna bank is gimp stuff.....even using it is lame. That said, it's your own fault, you get annoyed pretty easy by your fellow luna shmucks.

Secondly, use another bank if you get "offended" or "annoyed" that easy.
I don't care if you go to this years hot spot to bank, that's weak sauce.

Lastly, to even post about something so trivial...........hell, I'm embarassed for you.

It does interrupt you. As I type this, I have a character training on my laptop next to me and there's a dude coming by invising me. So I'm constantly having to break invis, go into combat mode again, and attack again. This is repetitive action I shouldn't have to do but for this dummy. I'm here at the computer doing this so I'm not unattended and I'm chatting in alliance chat as well. This guy is just griefing.

First off your not gonna get banned for invising someone at a bank.

As to the actual harrassment rules of conduct, you would only be violating them if the person you were invising asked you to stop, LEFT THE AREA, and then you Followed them, continuing to invis them. That would fall under the harrasment terms. If they dont leave the area, they obviously arent offended enough to consider themselves under harrassment.

P.S. -people train at banks so they can macro and go afk / semi-afk and not be logged out. And That is against the tos.

P.S.S. - Casting invisiblity on people used to raise the casters karma, so... up until a few years ago it was a "virtuous" thing to do as far as game mechanics.

I know why I train at the bank. I train there because I have two clients open, one to allure and arctic ogre lord and the other to train. Training there means I don't need to refresh my spellweaver. I'm atill at the keyboard to respond to a GM so it is not against the TOS.

You might be okay with jerks being jerks, but I'm not.

I confess yes i train at the bank too, and also sometimes on two clients, Mainly just to keep an eye out for sales i might be interested in.

But thats besides the point. If someone invised me, he or she wouldnt be violating the harrassment section of terms of service unless i left the area amd he or she followed me continuing to invis.

Pretty much anything goes in Fel, save for bannable offenses like cheating and a few other things.
When you step in carebear land, you need to follow rules laid out so that 5 year olds understand them. Things just run differently.

Dude, if you're going to cop out the Fellies, get the age right.
15 year old, testosterone filled boys that have giant ego trips is more like it.
While they might be cursing and acting like morons, they don't go paging on everyone at a bank for nothing. If I want that, I'll go to Luna. I don't really get harassed in Fel, but everyone does in Tram.
On top of that, now I get to listen to idiots in Tram spout off in the General Chat channel about idiot nonsense about individual player's lives that doesn't concern them or anyone else (welcome to Pac, where she who won't be named records every word you say in her notebooks and reports it to everyone else at a later date), or just talk drunken nonsense.
Yeah, I can tell you who's more annoying.
