Yet another question about the events today. Its back to work day for me, and the weekend was far from long enough for me. I want another 3 days off.

Do you think that the recent events have been aimed at high level players and tamers more then the average player? Players I know have told me the "The Moonglow Rift" and "Vanguard Forces" are to hard for them to engage in combat, and that there should be spawns for all levels of players. Such as those that were part of the Britain Invasion a few years ago. Have the Dev team started to cater to the power players more then the casual players? I have also heard that the events are to much about killing spawn now and should involve more skill sets or skills. Would you want to get your craftsman, fisherman, treasure hunter, etc. involved in the story if you could?

If there was an augment type substance or object that needed to be added to weapons to be effective against the Vanguard I would love to get my tailor or smith involved to get it and use it for people. If perhaps the substance or object had to be fished up or mined, then a specific craft type apply it to what ever they craft that would get many skills included.

I have felt that only the choice template like the chiv archers or tamers have been successful in this part of the storyline, I think maybe certain cities could have different lvls of spawn so a more causal player can still interact and take part, while the power players be the hero's of other cities.

As far as being to powerful I think that it could be harder. I mean, UO is what, like 10 yeas old? Players are hungry for a challenge. My personal goal in the game is to kill the Horrower (I'll be elated if I ever get to do that). With the templates that players have out there are few challenges that can't be addressed with an experienced party of 6 or even 5 at most. I just wish that the pets would actually follow and not teleport away if you say "All follow me" and then get killed. heh, just my 2 cents I suppose.

One thing that has been lacking in events as long as I've been playing is a "supply the troops" side event. There should be collection boxes in the major cities where players could drop off ingots, logs, wool and cotton, armour and weapons, meat and even vegies harvested from the farms. Fame and award points could be obtained by dropping stuff in the boxes. This would open the event to players who don't have the connection, skill or char strength to go to battle.
There was one event where various sorts of ingots were collected for the construction of a special critter capable of fighting the enemy, and that was fairly successful.

It is absolutely obvious that the recent events are only for high level players and tamers. I fought in the Moonglow Rift with all kinds of high level players. My mage actually did quite well there, my melee fighters not so well. Some friends of mine, who didn't have uber-equipment but maxed out skills, weren't able to survive longer than 3 minutes in Moonglow. The Vanguard Invasion is even worse. My mage doesn't stand a chance against most of the creatures there, not to speek of my melee characters. I actually gave up on the event.

The event isn't only for high level players, but for high level players of a certain kind (with certain skills). Which limits the gaming experience in the event to only a few people out there.

I don't think that the developers intended it to be that way. (Why would they design an event where only tamers, archers and chivalry-samurais can compete?) I just think that the event is not very elaborate. Killing spawn is ok, if it isn't the same thing over and over again for days and weeks.

Back then during the Britannia Invasion in 2000, the spawn was much more dynamic, and there were GM-controlled boss monsters. There were no parallel-worlds like the Moonglow Rift, but the cities were massively invaded by countless monsters (maybe we can still expect something like that as the Shadow Invasion proceeds...?) Even low level players fought during this event and were able to contribute and kill some monsters. There were no item turn-ins, but it was more fun than the events today.

And no, I would not have my mule involved into the story.

Actually we are planning a player-driven event series starting at the end of June, and I bet my sorry pirate arse that it will be more fun, more entertaining, more challenging and more rewarding than the Shadow Invasion has been so far.

They never made it a secret that the events were aimed at the high end characters. On the other hand, that is the majority of the player base at this time. There are VERY few (but not no) new players running around today.

The Moonglow thing automatically excluded new players by requiring blackrock in order to get one of the rewards. I can't say I didn't have any way of getting blackrock, but it would have been more difficult than I think it was worth.

The vanguard invasion on the other hand, I don't know who that is aimed at. Sure, the tamers can get their black horse, but aside from that, the monsters aren't very exciting, and the only challenge to the worst of them is that they keep spawning more of the little things while you're trying to kill them, sometimes forcing my samurai to run off for a moment to return to a fully healed vanguard controller two minutes later.

In other words, intersting for a day, so long as you either hunted with a guild or with an advanced non-mage character. The no summons in town thing really kept me out of it since my "best" character for these sorts of things is my mage.

And I'd be a fool to take that bet Hawkeye.

Yes...I would like them to somehow involve crafters, it would give them something other to do than burning runics, collecting bods. Someone suggested making some of the rewards for Pub 53(horse barding and mount) a craftable option. Like for the reward you would get a recipe you could use.

You def need high end chars in this invasion, imo. 120 archer and macer and I still die, so with someone who is less developed than that unless running with a guild or friends, I cant see them making it.

The most telling way to decribe your question is the fact that myself and one friend both playing disco tamers can kill all the vanguards at all six locations in fel and tram and not see another toon. Therefore I must say the event is especially difficult but for all but a few templates. Also dark moonglow was good for my tamer but also for my melee fighter.

  9. i agree, it seems to be geared towards uber tamers and large groups/guilds. i wish there was more events like the red spawn from last year. you didnt have to be in a guild or elitely equipped to get the same benefit.

i also like the idea of crafters, its been a while since ive seen the crafters have any special hold in an event. i was gone for a while, but i remember how neat it was when the savages were introduced and crafters/cooks were so heavily sought out for the paint. seemed almost essential at the time. ahhh, the good ol'days
