Can you get the Lantern and Box from any monster or does it have to be the Champ Spawn monsters?
I think it would be from any fel dungeon monster or champ spawn but I have no way to test yet!
ok I got one, but still havent figured out what to get from what... the most I have received so far is minor gems from silver serpents. Havent been to Fel yet or anywhere else.
-anything in fel dungeons
-any champ spawn region in any facet
the best way to get them is to kill the highest fame monsters in fel dungeons or champ spawn regions you can manage, but it's also a matter of quantity since you can only steal from a monster, successfully, once per monster. if you fail, fail fail again.
I read those restrictions, too, but I was stealing bandages from Trogs, in Trammel.
When I get around to finishing training fencing, I know where I'll be doing it, and with what weapon. At the very least, replenishing stock of bandages.
I've gotten 3 lanterns and a toolbox from ettins in despise fel. Haven't tried anywhere else yet.
is this just random stealing from monsters? On prodo shards? Im sooooooooo lost!!
If it works the same as the existing Stealing from Monsters you can get the common items anywhere, but you can only get the rare drops - ie balms and lotions, from Felucca dungeons and champion spawns.
However, you can only steal with empty hands, so does this item need a weapon skill? Does it give a chance to steal when you attack with it? How does it work?
If you need a weapon skill, I'll pass. No room in my thief's template for that.
It gives a chance to steal when you attack with it so a weapon skill may help you hit more but not necessary. Doesn't need stealing either since it gives you a random bonus to your stealing of between 80-110 skill.
I done ilshenar champ spawns just first 2 lvl of spawn before going to nexy champ spawn
10 ish tool kit
100 + remedys (balms , lotions etc )
Some gold and gems
1 Minor from paragon
Knife in hand ( 5 % to steal attemt ? ) nothing in offhand allowed - i borrow stealing from my theif and
put it on my swords character .
So does it work with any weapon skill? or just swords?
I say swords because it looks like a butchers knife which iirc is a swords weapon.
Its use best wepon skill
so the lantern and tool kits are new? I know about the lotions and balms.. got tons of those.. where does this knife come from? I tried to search but came up with a ton of garbage posts. Thanks all
buy it from uogamecodes.com or wait until they hit vendor in luna.
I am confused...where does one obtain the knife itself.
check out herald or uogamecodes.com it's a new buy-only, $5.99 USD
oops, Black_Sun beat me
Use a Tinkers deed to fix them.
You can not use POF on them.
which is bull****.
are they imbueable? since you cannot use PoF, might as well if you can.
Wow... no POF... What a waste of $5. Spent 2 hours in Sleeping Dragon spawn. one lantern, 3 balms, a thousand unsuccessful attempts. Used 120 swords dexxer with no stealing skill... Lost about 75 durability. At that rate, the knife will be toast in six months.
Hopefully they have a change of heart on the POF.
I wouldn't have bought it if they were more descriptive, as to say they couldn't be fortified.
Well, I've been using the blade for some quantity of hours now. Have taken some nice items for sure, but as for the skill gains that are supposed to happen, I've not seen a once yet. As it happens, I'm currently working stealing and am way below the skill cap...
...so my initial thoughts are that the "skill gain" part is broke.
Yea i agree on it being broken i am at 106 stealing and i spent many hours with the dagger and no gains .
Not being able to PoF is really bad . but a rather clever way to make sure people buy new once ... specially if they add new drops for it now and then..
I got some gains at 27 stealing, but nothing to really be excited about.
The gains probably follow usual gain rules, so you have to be attempting to steal something of the right sort of weight, and succeed at stealing it, or something like that.
Yeah I bought one, hoping that it would up my stealing quick (since I accidentally deleted my 120 stealing in a soulstone mishap) but I gained like .1 in 20 minutes whacking on skeletons.
Well, I can report I did get a .1 gain after many hours at 30's skill. Not broken after all, just extremely unlikely you'll gain much with it, what with all the other mathematical equations involved
well Ive not gotten anything... 120 swrds, 120 tactics, 110 stelaing, holding the blade in one hand nothing in the other hand... killed lizards in despise, now in T2A killing champ spawn.. not got anything and the already lost 31 durability.. What gives? It doesnt even come up and say I try to steal anything? Am i doing something wrong?
I am in the same boat, I did 4 fel champs(2 coons, undead, spider) from start to finish using it. I am down about 80 durabiltiy so far. Most of the time it says I failed stealing or that the monster has an empty pack, when it says I stole something there is nothing in my pack. I empty my backpack and all I have stolen is like 3 scrolls and I think some gold. Do I have to put stealing on the char to steal the special items?
I Dont Even Use A Weapon Skill I Just Use The Smugglers Edge On My Thief Works Just As Well Without The Weapon Skill.
It let's you steal while you're holding it?
attempts to steal with every swing of the knife... sometimes one after another.
I have 120 stealing and keep failing over and over. I played for about an hour and only got one balm. I think I have bad luck lol.
I use jewels to bump my skill to 120 since I havent finished training yet, but wondering... do you need 120 real skill before you can get the lanterns and tool kits?? So far I'm just getting the balms and such.
Also, i think its BS we cant ft powder them =/
No, you don't need real skill. In the same boat, its just a small chance when you get a "special item" that you can get the lanterns or tool kits. So most of the time you will get the balms and such than those.
anyone having any luck with this blade? If so where are you finding it most useful? I have been in fel dungeons, champ spawns in Fel, T2A, and Tok islands... I ended up jewling my stealing up to 120, so now Im 120 stealing, 120 swords, 120 tatics. I have already ran through the durability once!! just repaired the damn thing... I have goten a total of 5 lanterns 3 toolkits, bunch of balms and lotions... its workingnow, just really slow!
Well, my impression is that it takes sooooo long to get any of the "novelty" items worth keeping, that my time would be better spent doing other things...
...I'm afraid the Smuggler's Edge will now be consigned to one of the "display" areas in my house
I've only used it at Tokuno champ and Humility spawns, both times at 1-2 lvl spawns. I soulstoned 61 steal skill to my 120 swds, and I did get the Smugglers Edge on my first spawn (tok lizardman) but since then my only other 3 "special" steals have been balms. When I read that box and edge were based on steal skill, i added items to boost Steal to 105, but noticed no change.
I assumed you would need weapons skill and/or high HCI, for I misread that steal attempt was triggered on each "hit" not "swing" Now I will ss Steal back to my stealth mage who has eaten a 120 Steal scroll and try again
You guys buying this crap are letting Mythic have their way. Adult people buying in-game pixels......talk about embarassing.:loser:
If you buy this crap, I don't want to know you, or be seen with you......and forget real life.
you need to take a study in gamernomics, and you should probably quit playing ultima online if you're this concerned, haha. anything you buy in Luna promotes scripters, for example, so if you've ever bought anything in Luna then you've unwittingly paid the pocket of someone with real life cash.
think about it like this, most new games cost $50-60. if a person plays UO with one account, that's around $120 a year, or two new games a year.
what constitutes a new game in UO? timely events, seasonal events, EM ran events, story arcs (no, not expansions, those are extra). and how can you even compare new games to a mmorpg, in which you create content by the second?
hard to really say. but all I know is $5-6 for an in-game item that in fact changes the game with an item that creates a whole new class I can spend hours with (the rate of stealing with a weapon pwns traditional stealing) is hella better than buying a brand new game for $50-60.
not only that, this wep will get me 40 special items within 245 dur, and assuming I lose 1 dur every time I repair it, I'll have 360 special items from using this wep before it even drops 10 durability, plenty to trade, sell, or share with friends. not a bad dealio. I could even sell the items or the gold I get for real life money if I wanted to, which a lot of people will probably do, and you end up getting your money back and more.
If you don't support Mythic, there won't be a game for you to whinge about.
Can you get the lanterns and such off tram monsters in dungeons/champ spawns or is it strickly a fel dungeon/champ spawn.? thanks in advance
Did you read any of the reply´s above ?????
That is a gross assumption. I don't script and I don't deal in real life cash, but I run a few very successful Luna vendors. I craft my own stuff and I don't rip people off. Not everyone in Luna is a crook.
I second that .
What are the specs on this knife? Anyone have a screen shot?
right, and I don't script or deal in real life cash either, but if the stuff you're selling shows up on script sites, then the owner of the house or the site owners are benefiting off of you. also, just bringing people in to the area around you promotes others who script . and if you've ever bought a barbed kit or a hammer or any runic tool, well, there ya go, you've likely promoted a scripter.
so in other words, if you wanted to be 100% legit you'd have an out of Luna vendor in the middle of no where.
there's no getting around it. I'm not condemning scripters or praising them, just pointing out how they run this game. when a person is upset at the people who make this game (like the poster I responded to) getting real life money for items (uogamecodes) while that person plays this game and supports other players (scripters) who earn money the same way on a daily basis, someone has to remind everyone how UO really is.
for most people, UO is a whole lot better with scripters, because UO is such an antiquated game and the trade system sucks compared to modern mmorpgs. maybe one day the Devs will fix that, and maybe if they have a little more money in their pocket they'll be able to keep people like Draconi. maybe not though, I mean hell, what would UO be with UOA and map, two things the devs didn't develop even remotely until KR, and finalized in the beta of SA.
...and by extension...
The guy standing next to you crosshealing that gets the rare drop as you defeat a mob might very well be the biggest scripter on your shard, or at least might be running one of those vendors. No one goes untouched by scripting.
Wow do you need to be rude.? Im asking because I went out in the dungeons in fel killing everything in my path and got jack... just wondering if theres a trick to this or im just part of the unlucky rng...
After reading through this post I am still a bit confused. Some say that it works great some say it doesnt work at all. Some folks have combat skill and not stealing skill some have stealing skills and no combat skill. Some say you don't need combat skill as it just uses the chance and a few threads down it says it only works if you actually hit the monster.
So whats the verdict on this item? Can you get the goods with a theif without a combat skill or is it best to revamp my thief to have swords and tactics? OR can I just arm the smugglers edge with my fighting character and not even worry about the stealing skill? I am not looking to start a vendor of all the lotions and balms or even new stuff I just want to get enough for my personal use and for a few friends.
thank you for that post, I was beginning to feel a total idiot... if someone could say, simply, what type of character and where, I'll go give it another shot cause honestly, at this point it really doesn't seem worth the trouble
I think a screen shot of this weapon showing the skills would explain a bunch.
I mean UBWS? Is that all it says?
