Questions about pet training regarding to the Calculator

    Hello's!

Been wondering abit, on the differences between strong and "weak" tamed creatures. For example, the difference between a 1.7 score Hiryu, and a 4.5 is fairly huge, but is there a difference in what the Maximum skills/stats can be trained to, or do they just require more time to train?

the pet calc is an overall indication of how how high the total stats, resists, skills, and abilities are of your pet.

unfortunately it seems to weight all things equal, when that should not be.

there are some things which i look for on pets BEFORE i pay any attention to the pet calculator because they are much more important:

    1. hitpoints - need to be as high as possible and close to max.
    2. STR - affects physical melee output, so again you want it to be as high as possible.
    3. DEX - dex affects swing speed, and more importantly MOVEMENT speed... if you have a pet like a Rune Beetle, you will want HIGHER DEX so the pet can follow very quickly (anyone have a list of all pets who can have higher than 125 dex, post tame?)
    4. Physical resist - also should be max, or within 1-3 pts of to max. physical is probably the most commonly needed resist in the game.
    5. Fire resist - the most common and devestating mage attack resists, definitely this should not be too shy of the maximum
    6. Wrestling skill - because wrestling determines chance to hit, as well as to BE hit (and it affects hence how much damage your pet might take), very high wrestling is HUGE, and very important.
pretty much i just do a check of all those things before i even run the pet calc.

else you could end up with one that looks great on pet calc, but overall is kinda crappy.

A pet ranking 1.7 won't turn into a 4.5 after being trained. A weak pet will stay weaker in comparison to the better pets no matter how hard you train it. In other words, the calculator is comparing your untrained pet vs the best untrained pet stats/skills, and then comparing trained pet data to the best trained pet figures.

In any case, don't let the calculator make the decisions for you without evaluating the figures for yourself - sometimes the pet's weaknesses are in areas that are unimportant, or their strengths aren't worthwhile.

That was very useful, thanks, didn't know that higher dex meant higher movement speed. Always wondered about that. =)

i found out in a roundabout way during PVP when my half trained dumb beetle couldnt keep up with anyone it was chasing.... beetles can have a lot of dex... once trained

a while back someone posted 4-5 pets which could have higher than 125 dex post taming, does anyone recall what was on the list?

    thanks

The pet calculator isn't that great.. It's basically a standardized tool for thosewho don't know exactly what they're looking for and need some sort of basic tool.

It looks at every stat equally I think.. and well that's definitely not the case. What stats are important depends on what you're doing with the pet for one.

Really everything you need can be found in Stratics Animal Taming.. Found Here

Edit: Two pets might be Reptalon and Bake Kitsune?

Actually the pet calculator does weight the stats, attributes and skills differently, and it does a pretty good job of giving you a reasonably good idea of how good quality your pet is. It isn't perfect, and I do use my own system, but the pet power calculator is still a useful tool, especially to pet merchants.

Here's a Link to a list of all tame-ables sorted by DEX. Highest DEX is at the bottom of the list. Click on a name to see the details.

The problem with that list is that it is pre-tame. For some of those in the list their dex gets halved when they are tamed, so the max dex for a rune beetle is the highest post tame.
