so i tamed up a pair or raptors and a skree when SA came out, but had a list of things to do before i was able to get to train them up.

well last week i finally was able to fully GM both my raptors and my skree.

and the last couple days ive tooken them out and tryed them out on different critters and the such.

so this is my conclussion on the raptors and skree.

both are mid level tamer pets, the the taming and controlabilit are low.
and they are definatlly NOT front line pets.
other then maybe RP or for looks they arnt really that good of pets.

the skree im sure has allready been beaten to death.
low HP, med reisists and a sleep special..... which makes the critter your fighting retarget another pet when it wakes up.... can be a bugger if your using a greater as a shield and all of a sudden it starts to smack around your skree.

over all i found the skree to..... suck.
my final test of it was on a cu and a swoop.
both of which where discorded, took FOREVER and a LOAD of bandaids.
and the swoop i gave up on after 10 minutes.

    the Raptors.
neat pets. they are like the Diet Coke of Frenzied Ozzies.
they do about the same damage as having 2 ozzies.

which begs to ask.... why use 2 rapots when you can use 4 ozzies for the same control slots and double your damage output?

and about the same for control and taming.

and to me the ozzies seemed to hit faster then the raptors.

in the end after getting nice pets (hp and resists) and then bonding and training them im gonna be handing mine over to my 3rd line tamer and leaving them there for looks.

    dont get me wrong.
pets are fun to tame, train then take out.
but if your looking to max your damage and kill rate those wont do it for ya.

    enjoy.
    poo.

Yep, that's pretty much my assessment as well.

All the new pets aren't good enough to replace a dragon, a dread horse or a rune beetle.

the sleep spell is interesting because it can be used as a niche on things like a fire elemental renowned, for example.

certain renowned bosses are not any more immune to sleep than their regular counterparts, from my experience. however, overall, the nightmare-like skree is just designed too poorly, with its low damage output in melee and its lack of mana from sleep spam.

if the skree had maybe 120 meditation and 120 focus, and less sleep spam, it could be more useful -- or perhaps if it had something other than sleep / healing stone ... like maybe if it could cast spell plague, then it would be really interesting for killing low-level champ spawn fodder. we'd have to make a strong point somehow to rebalance the skree along with the reptalon, and the fire steed, and everything else haha.

not sure, the skree definitely needs a slot downgrade or an ability upgrade at the 4.

i havent messed with raptors too much; they were so hard to tame in Beta haha. I do believe they have better resists/hp than frenzied, so that could be a draw. however, in this greater dragon age, it's hard to really tank with a raptor. maybe a little less micromanagement than frenzied.

i think the clear winner for fun has to be the anyone-can-use bouras, the 29.1ers. I havent tried that yet either but seems like a fun alternative to the lesser hiryu, albeit without the ability to mount of course and no requirement to control. two lowland/ruddy can output a lot of damage.

i have 3 computers lined up on my desk.

    and i have 3 accounts.

i love taking out a greater and putting it on somthing huge.
then on my other account on my other comp i take my pack of trained ozzies and put it on.
then on the 3rd account with the 3rd comp i put my beetle mare.

so i get the armor coruption from the beetle.
    the tankablily of the greater.
and the CHAINSAW of the pack of 5 ozzies.

    ya, its an adiction.

Anything that's calm enough for you to be able to control three tamers at, is overkill to have three tamers at. =]

If things start to go to hell, that's a lot of dead you to sort out.

    A couple more observations:

The raptors are nice sometimes as opposed to your pack because the raptors are much easier to keep alive. I use a pair of wolf spiders sometimes (mostly for roleplay), and they are brutal. A pack of stuff (hell hounds, ostards mostly) tend to perform better, but with a lot more ressurections.

I have seen one place where the skree are mildly useful, and that is in one on one duels where you could use a pet. In other words, a single archer or melee fighter would have a bear of a time trying to kill you when you have a skree guarding you.

Since that never really happens outside of roleplay or a test environment, I'll still file the skree under "useless."

wait, you mean they didn't give tamers an even more overpowered pet than the greater dragons? you mean some of these pets might be meant for other people than just those with 106 taming? awww. -bursts into tears-

you tamers sure have it hard :( -comforts-

Lol - what is it with the tamer hate all over these boards? :p

If folks would take the time that they use to think of tamer-bashing comments to work on their characters, they probably wouldn't need to gripe about imbalance :p

Sorry to derail; let's get back on topic.

I have to say that, for variety's sake, I am mildly interested in trying a pair of raptors, but I seriously doubt they'll be more effective than my rune beetle/kitsune or my dread/kitsune combos.

I think most tamers had hoped for something of a different 'flavour' and not nessecarily a pet to match the greater dragons, but something that would be an alternative to rune beetles, dread horses and bake-kitsunes.

Let me make my point clearer: If the reptalon had something that could bring it on par with cu sidhes, I think we would see more of them around. But almost everybody's riding a giant dog. As it is now, the reptalon pretty much shares the fate of the firesteed: A respected curiosity, but never used for hunting.
