Ok, I know that I saw a thread on the rebuilding of Maginica while the turkey maddness was going on.

It stated that Maginica would be rebuilt sometime in this coming Jan.

This past weekend I bounced over to Maginica to smear a few more corrupted souls and the whole place was spawnless!

Anyway, I was looking for the original thread I saw a few weeks ago to find out some more info and it's gone, or at least I can't find it and nothing shows up when I search for maginica + rebuild.

Anyone have any idea what's happening and when?

    Thanks!

The next part of the story arc is the re-building of Magincia. I think we can let the Devs have their Christmas holidays before they start though?

Em's on drachenfelds said they did plan to rebuild magincia soon.

I'm quite happy because nujel'm and magincia are my favorite towns.

I really like the idea that each shards New Magincia will potentially be different, I love uniqueness.

This would of made me happy if I was still CoM haha.

I'm guessing threads won't spawn anymore. Time to go grind some out!

I just can't wait until the rebuilding event ... finally my home island can return to its former or glory (or better?!?!) instead of looking like a hurricane hit a graveyard. However, I still have questions/concerns about those of us with grandfathered houses on the island... it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Has it been stated that houses can no longer be placed on the island? I tried some spots on the beach that used to be legal and it wouldn't let me place, but I didn't know whether that was only because of the ongoing events. Will they become available spots again?

I don't think it will allow any new houses from what I have been told, those of us who still have houses have been reluctant to drop them (to resize/change) as they show as improperly placed. It will be interesting to see if the new island design affect us at all.

Speaking of which, I am increasingly curious how the rebuilding of "New Magencia" will play out. The question remains if it will follow established Ultima lore (from Ultima Prime as the Devs frequently refer to it) making it into a "humble shepard village" or instead an even more magestic place with the assistance of the Gargoyles and their resources/tools etc.

    * Since Ultima Online seems to be positioned between Ultima III and IV on the timeline, Magincia has not yet been destroyed and is known as the city of Pride instead of the city of Humility

Note: The above Stratics page was created back BEFORE the recent destruction event(s).

    http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/New_Magincia

New Magincia, located in a small island, became City of Humility, as it was built on the ruins of old Magincia, a rich, prideful port that was destroyed by demons. When it was rebuilt as New Magincia, it became a humble shepherd village. The Shrine of Humility is located near the city.

    http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/New_Magincia

Somewhere, out beyond civilization, is also reputed to lie the ruins of the legendary town of Magincia, which the gods destroyed for the insufferable pride of those that dwelt there. All of the marble palaces and gardens were devastated, and the right, haughty inhabitants reduced to haunting spirits. No one has ever confirmed this legend, so it may just be a fable to frighten the weak of the heart and instill humility in those who overvalue their own worth.
    - from "The History of Britannia", Ultima IV

A towne built on the ruins of old Magincia by a colony of humble people who understand well the dangers of false, self-serving pride and the beauty of humility. New Magincia has a healer and a restaurant tucked among its numerous modest farms and orchards.
    - from "Book of Lore", Ultima V

Having been destroyed in ancient times for its haughty pride, New Magincia was rebuilt by a more humble people who favored the simple ways of farming and rural life. With the passage of time, an industrious village has grown atop the ruins of the old town. Those who would revel in their own pride should take special note of the lesson of New Magincia.
    - from "Compendium", Ultima VI

New Magincia is known as the City of Humility, and hence it chooses to remain isolated from much of the rest of Britannia. If thou venture there, thou will find that the people are basically shy, but also warm and hospitable once they have gotten used to thee. The city is located on an eastern island well past most of the main trade routes. Time progresses more slowly in New Magincia than anywhere else in Britannia. The economy of New Magincia is based on shipbuilding, horticulture and raising sheep.
    - from "Fellowship", Ultima VII

    A near-certainty.

Way back, at one of the Town Halls, Draconi implied New Magincia strongly. Maybe, he said, there will be a new place in Magincia's old spot, a place more strongly based on the Virtues.

Took the realm long enough to get to this. This partially doesn't make sense (wasn't it a good while between the demon attacks and the rise of Casca?).

But it partially does make sense, when you consider the magnitude of the problem and the fact that Casca, as most evil dictators are wont to do, likely drained the treasury to do his evil deeds. Evil is expensive when you're doing it on a grand scale. I don't know about the other shards, but on GL there was an explicit mention made of how Casca funded his evil but let pretty much everything else in the realm slip until the treasury was literally drained.

Hopefully Dawn has had enough time to establish a stable base of reasonable taxes and fees, and rebuild the treasury.

The ghosts/spirits stopped spawning with the Christmas release/patch. There wasn't any advance notification or mention in the notes that this would happen, nor has there been any word if the threads would be dropping in any other locations. Might try the red wisps in the wisp dungeon in Ish. I thought someone had mentioned long ago when the Melissa/Casca event was going on that the wisps in that dungeon was dropping threads.

What was the cause of the spawn stopping? In game, I mean, story wise.

I just hope some of the 'resources' we will have to contribute will be the small pieces of Blackrock we keep digging up. I got over 400 pieces now and i really want to get rid of them since they dont stack, but i know as soon as i throw them away they will be needed for some dev quest thingy.
Been burnt before that way so it makes it hard to throw anything thats not allready used in some way :lick:

That is a good thing! Doesn't happen enough any more that's for sure (that is existing game areas changing to the point a re-write is necessary of the Atlas and related lore/info)

Since it is somewhat likely it will become the city of Humility, that begs the question as to whether the shrine of Humility will move to join the island's new town.

That seems like a good story-arc to run; building a new town, defending it from pirates, and then gathering materials and moving/sanctifying the new shrine.

Assuming we don't just wake up in publish 64 with the shrine moved and a bunch of cottages spread all over the island (ala Ocllo.)

If they DO move the shrine, it follows something should be on fire island -- perhaps a Gargoyle shrine ??

Since logical discussion seems to have given way to personal attacks I think this thread is done.

    Uhm... huh? :coco:

I do hope that the event will be just as interesting and character driven as blowing up the town.
