    AoS was a great addition to UO for me. The game was becoming boring and needed the change. Adding more roles to the game is what gave it so many possibilities. To me it did not change to many things, simply added to the game.

    When Trammel and Fel split, I would have made Fel alot more dangerous, like random bally invasions, intelligent NpC reds and blues and thieves, also added into Trammel, so that the feeling of the game would have stayed the same.

    Side note: Like imagine hunting an elder gazer and incomes an NpC red, in Trammel, whack, ooOooOOO, or out of nowhere an Npc pops up and then turns grey and vanishes and you notice your missing your gold and maybe something else.

    The problems with the changes is that some things changed. I don't mean the items, I mean the feeling and the purpose, or that little extra that was now gone. They should of made it so that all of these things worked and were not just left out because of the split.

    So, basically, there's a list of things that changed and everyone remembers something that they can no longer experience and that's why i'm writing this post. I think all of those things should be fixed.

    When your in Fel and kill someone, the corpse is empty. Before AoS you would have found loot and people would have fought over that loot. I say drop the insure money on the corpse and a random artifact, rarely, that is cursed with low durability.

    Create these NpCs for Trammel. A list of different types of players, like a tamer/archer or a thief/fencer/poisoner, Give them names like, animal and the poisoner and spawn them and use these new NpCs in the bounty system, also create heros for Felucia, the most hated by the villans so that reds can also bounty in a reverse role-play.

    Here's one that I think made people leave, they created Trammel but allowed guild Pks. In my opinion, insanity. This was the demise. It also makes factions worthless and a joke and just feeds the people no one likes, sorry it's true.

    Make a system of Order, Neutral and Chaos. If you join the Order guilds or Faction you can not Pk, steal or loot that of same, and this alone will fix all the problems. You don't like it? Then join one of the other Factions, it's choice.

    In the Neutral guild you have a mix, like factions is now and in Chaos you have to be real bad, maybe earn membership by Lord kills or from Neutral guild.

    So, basically, if your in an Order guild and guy kills you, you get a gump, a member of your guild/faction/alliance has killed or stolen from you!!! Report?
    If you report, he's out and stays out for X number of days, simple.

    In Neutral you get a couple reports and in Chaos you just don't worry about it. It's ok to kill and steal and talk crap.

    This would allow for people to work as a team and become friends, changing factions and guilds into what they were meant to be. A way to inter-connect or assemble with their beliefs and true nature and be able to stand for what they believe and not have that ripped away by another.

    I miss the old order/chaos wars, I really like the idea and would like to see order and chaos guilds brought back.

    Man the order/ chaos battles were amazing in the day. I agree get rid of all the factions and bring back the old ways.

    I'm all for order/chaos wars coming back I loved sporting a shield that said "Hey I'm a target", unfortunately those shields wouldn't mean anything now unless they made the shields special like a blessed 10hci 10dci 10 rpd 1 fc spell channeling shield. I really miss being in moonglow and having to fight off the Chaos guilds. Although the order/chaos system wouldn't be as fun for me with all this runic crap.

    actually AOS killed the game for me.. no longer could i just go pick up something and go pvp.

    my faction guys were next to useless without total refit, many of the items became useless and not having "the" item meant a huge dissavantage..

    since faction arties and imbuing it has gotten alot better, but there are still some "must" have items that are really expensive or too rare.

    i do miss order and chaos fighting and huge trammel wars.

    factions are not a total pvp fix.. too many hiders and choke point fighting going on.
    champ spawn pvp is getting old as well..

    Personally, I think the #1 issue to be addressed in order to keep the game up and running is maintaining a player base and keeping up with existing players leaving the game, with new players coming to the game.

    Since it is inevitable, that sooner or later from the existing pool of players some will eventually move on, to avoid the player base to thin and thin out more and more, I think it should be a priority to make it so that new players can come to the game to at least replace those who are leaving it.

    Unfortunately, this opens up the problem of "catching up" for new players with existing players in order to be competitive.

    This is not an issue in PvM, of course, but since UO does have a PvP component, it does is an issue for those new players coming to the game for PvP.

    My concern, is that if the task for new players to "catch up" with existing players to be competitive at high levels of PvP is too troublesome and lengthy, then it might work as a deterrant to keep playing UO thus damaging the game and not making it possible to keep a sufficient player base restoring players who moved on.

    Expansions may be good to catch the attention but I noticed that their effect on average lasts a few months only.

    I have read posts of players who, after only a month lost interest in the new lands.

    Of course, I do not know about any statistics on brand new UO accounts, so mine is merely all guessing and personal feelings for things I notice when playing the game.

    Personally, I think it does no good to the game to have new players merely "try out" Ultima Online for a couple of months and then move on.
    What the game needs is new players come to the game and stay with it, possibly, at least for a year if not more.

    But "if" there is an issue with brand new players not sticking with UO for more than a short time, then I think the issue should be overwied and the problems definately addressed to make new players want to stick with UO for more than a few months.

    My guess ?

    Well, I don't think it is PvM. The game has plenty lands and plenty of PvM challenges so I hardly think that a new player may leave the game early on for lack of PvM content.
    Neither I see graphics as a problem. The way I see it, graphics is what attracts players to a game and so, I assume that if anyone buys the game and starts playing it they already accepted the graphics.
    So, the only one thing that comes to my mind as a possible cause of new players wanting to abandon the game after trying it out, is perhaps the gap that separates them from existing players in regards to be competitive at high levels in PvP.

    If this might be a possible cause of players leaving the game after only a short while from trying it out, then doing something to address it could perhaps help maintaining new players with the game for longer ?

    At least, the issue could be worth of being studied and analyzed more in depth so as to find whatever solution to whatever problem may be most fit.

    But the goal, I think, should be ensuring #1 that new players come to UO and #2 that they stay with the game for at least a year if not more, possibly......

    Agreed. I had some of my best times playing as knight on the Order side and fighting anywhere anytime. I also enjoyed playing in Factions way back when it was actually fun and heavily populated on all sides.

    I tolerate and endure the horrible graphics, cause the game content is so great. However, hardly anybody will buy the game when he sees those graphics, as they will not understand the difference between UO and any other MMORPG, and will only see the optical difference (rare exceptions excluded).

    Those new players I see coming to the game, all have played UO before (I don't even know a single player who recently bought UO without having played it for at least several months at an earlier time).

    like, lets login and kill something,what?,doesnt matter,let kill what comes in sight.

    those behavior detained UO to be the multi million player game.

    I agree that that's part of it. And as Aarons6 said "no longer could i just go pick up something and go pvp."

    But I also see this in PvM and events. A new player has to go through a lot to build up the items needed to succeed at a high level, to be competitive.

    So I see that problem existing throughout UO. In my mind it's not about being on an equal footing, just being somewhat competitive. Especially for non-powergamers who don't have loads of time to devote to building up their character and gear, getting powerscrolls, getting high end armor, getting all the assorted slayers and weaponry, finding a housing spot and placing because you need to gather so many resources, etc., etc., etc. And then finding out that, just like level grind games, ya built yer character wrong to be competitive with others, go back and add another skill, drop one, maybe get another powerscroll, find new gear that fits, etc., etc., etc.

    I admit there's alot of work and important things that could be fixed and I do hope they do not give up on improving graphics. I still look at the KR pics and just hope they're able to do something and i'm sure they will continue to improve the affects and sound regularly.

    Most of the problems that we deal with, for example: the new player can be resolved with the help of other players.

    Similar to the way the chat system works. People ask questions and they have alot of support. In theory if there were an honor guild alliance-order, where these people could enter and not be killed and picked apart by vultures then they would be able to grow.

    If the group was able to establish itself, they could begin to do other things, such as, crafting or hunting peerless and powerscrolls. So, this would be the basic, good roleplay, type trammie, guild faction alliance.

    But, this is just an opinion. There are lots of different things that could be done to improve how quickly a player advances or how much they need to depend on others.

    Greetings... with the current faction system you can finish a warrior in a few days (3-4)

    then you can equip him really fast...

    - get some silver, some points... and get your rank and arties.

    all you need, on faction are:
    - sleeves, gorget, bracer. (warrior)
    - two bows... (plenty to find that aren't that expensive)

    so in a 6 day effort... you are ready to roll...


    It isnt pick new reags and potions and go...

    but comparing skill training in the past and now... 6 days is alot faster then the old days.


    About chaos/order... we're close to having only two factions... prolly minax vs dawn...

    I this is for my old friends in DOA (catskills)

    you guys rocked and Trinity was the best gm! (/biased comment)

    I don't see AoS as a blessing...or a nice change.

    Uo changed A LOT after AoS...it became item based instead of skill based.

    I lost a lot of old friends because of AoS.
    Uo changed too much and they all left :(

    I still miss the old days...of being naked at yew gate with my tribal spear...
    Money didn't matter...just skill and having fun.

    No. UO hit its highest number of players at the Launch of AoS. Thats the only time UO hit the 250k subscriber mark. However, numbers basically only go down after that point. & only spike a bit after expansion are released.
