Okay I had this neat idea to start a thread sharing our UO memories from the last 17 yrs and all shards. We all have so many I always love the threads filled with memories. Awesome screenies(screen captures) are welcome in this thread too.

I'll start and I hope everyone will join in! :cheerleader:

Remember when the chaos dragoons would spawn naked? No clothes just sword and shield riding a swampy, I died laughing first time I saw one spawn like that.

I remember my introduction to felucca. I looted a magical stone off a lizard man and planted it in the ground.

The first kind person I ran into invited me into his house to introduce me to his guild. Moments later...OOooOooo

    "Welcome to Fel, noob"

    Good times indeed.

After Trammel opened, I was running around Fel looking for idoc's and a spot to place a keep or castle. A red shows up and then 2 of his buddies join him. As soon as they started towards me to attack, I planted a moonstone and laughed my arse off while I got teleported to Trammel.

I created my first ever UO character, a swordsman. Within minutes of first logging in I equipped my daggar (fencing) and then engaged in a 45 minute brawl with this rabbit outside Vesper. I had to run away several times and wait to heal up, but I eventually got that bunny. That was my first "quest" in UO right there.

I have two. The stupidest thing I ever did in UO(funniest memory) and in my opinion the deal maker where it was my decision to stick around for so long.

So my friend got me playing late 97 early 98, and was like omg dude! Scribes are real money makers! Everyone has mages, so generally I rolled a scribe/Mage 50 Magery/50 Inscription. So I logged in to the Sweet Dreams Inn I believe in Britain, and after about 30 minutes of randomly walking around I found the bank. So I was sitting there watching everyone talk, admiring the guy with this super awesome Deer Mask, and a gold short spear. So I start clicking my little scribe pen and clicking on items to make and I keep getting this message. You do not have the required components. So I'm like oh ok I'm missing reagents. So I look, nope have them, have scrolls what the hell! So I ask my friend and we sit there talking on "the phone" lol yea(second line of course..so not to lose connection)..trying to figure out why I can't make scrolls. So long story short, after about an hour and a half of trouble shooting it and not being able to figure it out I got pissed, logged out, deleted the character and quit Playing for probably six months. Till I decided to come back and make a Mage. Now the funny thing is, I realized about like 5 or 6 months after I came back and was in Roger Wilco chat telling my story. That the reason I couldn't make those scrolls is because..I didn't have the spell in my book! :/ doh! So that's always irked me even to this day. If the error was You do not have the spell required to make this. I would of probably made bank!! Haha!

The second is just what I decided was the coolest memory. I had a macer/healer that spent his days living out of the Jhelom bank and training in the Pits for months and months with his trusty wand. So after I finally got all 100's of my 7 skills I ventured into Buc's den..screen loads! ooOoo! What the F!! Leave get ressed go to the Brit Forge and pay 25k for a full Gold Platemail suit..now mind you 25k was an extreme amount for me at the time. Go back to Buc's den..screen loads and I'm alive yay!! Xanthir is Attacking you, whack whack! He died almost INSTANTLY! I was like omg my golden armor has made me invincible..(right?) ha well after about 10 minutes of hopping server lines and fighting random people, I in fact did die. But it was one hell of a rush..and haven't really fully left since!

So many awesome memories here. One of my favorites was my first visit to Fel. My "partner in crime, Jaden Moon and I were killing npcs for the black sandals back in the day. You could kill so many and if went over the count, bam.. you were sent to Fel. We were usually pretty good at keeping count but one day I got a little trigger happy. The next thing I know I am in this dark place next to a stone and dead. I am typing in party to her saying. "I think I got sent to Hell!" Someone was nice enough to rez me and take me under their wing. I must have gone red doing that so they brought me to the Faction stone. I forget the linguistics but there was a reason for it.. Was a fun memory and had the opportunity to make more friends which is the best thing this game has going for it!

Of course my blonde moment memory was when I realized after six months of playing on dial up, that my lag was two fold cuz I was still playing off the cd. I had not realized I needed to upload it to the computer. Yes. Ultima Online was my first game.. hahahahaha Pretty much the only one to this day!

Remember when ...... there was this thing called "power hour" every character had one and it was on a 24 hour schedule so no one wanted to do anything until they had finished their power hour and you had to do your characters in the exact right order or it didn't gain much... but during that hour you were all that and then some!

Now we have alacrity scrolls but they only last 15 min and you can eat them whenever you want and you don't have to wait for your hour to start. Those where the days.

And this is a story I have told on many occasions... but way back when I started it was like early tram days as I bought UO:R off a shelf... so I would log in every day and during my "hour" I'd go to the cemetery outside Britain and hunt.. and I always "lured" my mobs away from the buildings because I didn't want them to die on the lee side of the buildings where I couldn't loot them because I didn't know about the "Circle of Transparency". I kept asking people how they could loot mobs there... and they would say "noob" or "newb" lol..... and just laugh at me.... but once or twice someone would say Circle of Transparency Duh!.... "newb"..... I kept thinking wow... I wonder what level of spell that is? I kept looking at the mage shop for a scroll for it. I'd ask around if anyone knew where I could get a Circle of Transparency scroll... and everyone would laugh at me call me a newb and walk away..... so one day I'm out in the forest hunting and a couple of Dire Wolves chase me down and I die... YEP on the Lee side of a small tower.... I was like OMG! I can't find my corpse! I would go inside see it right there by the building but inside I'd get the message "Target cannot be seen".... I'd be like SoaB! I'd run back out try again can't click the corse..... basically watched my body turn to bones and then vanish with pretty much all my stuff. I wanted to cry.

Weeks later I'm going through the buttons on my paperdoll having never really looked at them and guess what I find!?! A Circle of Transparency! OMG I was so pissed... I was like what the heck why couldn't anyone tell me about that! Turned it on and NEVER turned it off.

It was November 1998 and my first day in UO. A friend had been playing for about 6 months and convinced me to give it a try. I started out with archery so I had a bow and a few arrows in my pack. After trying to talk to a few NPC (not knowing they were NPC) trying to figure out what town I was in my friend was able to find me in Britain. From there I followed him west out of Britian into the forest. As we ran we came across a person fighting an ettin. We paused to watch... It was a close fight... Would the ettin win? Would the player win? In the end, with just a sliver of life left in his bar, the player defeated the ettin. I wish I could say it was an accident, but it really wasn't... I tabbed into war mode and double clicked his health bar... With a single arrow he died. My first day and about 20 minutes into playing, the first thing I managed to kill was another player and I had my first (of many) murder count. I almost fell out of my chair I laughed so hard. To this day I still remember he had over 100 of each reg on him.

Last couple of years at school 98 something, 4 of us bought the game one after the other.
Warriors of Virtue our guild on Europa, chipped in for a small house and not a couple of coins left to rub together between us!
We could never work out how our house kept getting dry looted, found out our neighbour was a thief and use to steel our keys from us on our so called friendly chats! So much for being titled "The Fair"
We use to go to Moonglow graveyard, bashing/casting away then a gate would open. Out pops a couple of reds with their summoned Demons and before I can look down and type run! OoOOoOOOooo
We also use to spend most of our Saturday morning mining the wall from Minoc on our fancy boat, then as soon as we thought we had too much weight on the boat :) we would be sailing back and bam! Bloody Pirates! Just a time game to see who had the most regents/bandies or potions to keep them self alive!

    Great times, really good fun!

I remember when everyone used to eat... when a lowly cook could sell stacks of food to other players at the bank, or even on a vendor. Then one day the Devs, after tinkering too long with skills that didn't need tinkering with, announced that food was not necessary... and the land's once dedicated chefs joined the ever-growing unemployment line.

I won't say how many times my main character (a chef) considered quitting UO after that... nor how close I may be to possibly quitting now...

As new player i decided to put a home after month of playing. I didn't have idea how to do it. And what i did: i asked veteram question "i need to cut some trees before i can place a house right? Because all places seems to be taken" ... :) I thought trees in UO rise and can be cutted back then heheh.

I was mining outside of Trinsic and got attacked by a player named Black Widow. She felt so bad she rezzed me and gave me my stuff back... I think I was her first.

So back in the day, I was joined in UO by a few members of my D&D group. Three of us all decided to save up and buy vanquishing silver swords. They were quite pricey for us at the time, but they were worth it. The day arrives and we've all got possession of our shiny new toys and my friend Mike suggests going to covetous to try them out on liches. So we head down into the third level and we're cleaning house. The swords are amazing and the liches are falling right and left but then while my other friend Jeff and I are looting our kills, Mike decides to run off to find more foes to fight. Treebeard would call Mike hasty and these days I would liken him to the Leeroy Jenkins of UO. He comes running back with a huge pack of liches in tow blasting him with spells. As he reaches us, he's felled by a flame strike spell. The liches quickly turn on Jeff and myself. Jeff is obliterated and I'm getting blasted by spells, but I manage to flee and hide, saving myself and my precious sword.

Now at the time, Jeff and Mike were roommates playing from the apartment they shared. I was playing from my own house, but I immediate get a call from a panicked Mike. "Save my sword!" he pleads. "You have to save my sword!"

"There are 10 liches around that you led over," I protest.

"You can't let them decay! Just grab them and run," Mike suggests. Like an idiot, I finally relent and try after I've healed up again. So I rush in and am able to grab Jeff's sword off his corpse before the liches spy me. Then they notice and start casting on me so I get a bandage going. It kicks in and heals me and I'm able to grab Mike's sword. I'm booking it out there, still getting cast on. I've got a second bandage going adn my 80 healing and and GM anatomy are pretty dependable. If I can just get through that door and turn the corner, they won't have line of sight on me to cast. My bandage will kick in and keep me alive to get through that door, but then, the bandage fails and I die just as I open the door.

I'm pissed. I'm not usually one to swear but I was cursing Mike's name like you would not believe. As I sat there in grey screen, I watched the lich horde wandering over and begin looting my corpse. We had quite a bit of running to do back then to find a healer. We didn't use runebooks and recalls very much back then. Heck, we didn't even bother with horses because they were always dying and became this reoccurring expense. Thus we never were able to make it back to our bodies. I always wonder if someone went hunting in there after and found some nice vanquishing silver blades on the corpses of the liches they killed.

My brother got me into the game after telling me Warcraft 2 was passe and this new game was played with lots of others with things like supremely accurate swords of vanquishing and what not, anywho I was very protected and spent my first many months on Serpents Hold making and selling bows for gold. His and eventually my guild used to gate monsters, air elms I think onto the island for us all to kill, my first dungeon crawl was down to fight those red mages and I found how aweful it was not to have night site on, kinda boring beginning but I loved it, placed my first house on the island and didnt know you had to lock it so until the thief told me why my house kept getting looted of all my treasures.

There are a few things that has always made me laugh:

When I first saw an Orc Lord I thought it was another player. I tried to talk to him but I couldn't understand a word he said. When he started attacking me I thought I pissed them off, lol.

The second one involved a character named "pk coming." As they were approaching me I thought there was a built in system that warned a player that a pk was actually coming. I ran like hell :p

The best memory, though, was exploring for the first time ever. Was so awesome making my way on foot from Brit to Minoc. Coincidentally that was when I ran into the orc lord I thought was an actual player, hehe.

Remember when you could cast paralyze on a Reaper and it would start walking? I had some fun with that one.. every single time I'd see someone fighting a Reaper I'd do it and watch the thing take off after the shocked player..

    lots of memories

Had my first char and was walking around, bewildered with all those things to explore... Went to the fields in the west of Britain, and suddenly something made a nasty noise, again and again, and I saw my health bar dropping and turning green. So I tried to ran away, but seemed to stay "green", and my health still leaking... And then, suddenly, I saw him: XXX "the wandering healer", and I thought to myself: This makes completely sense, it's a game where you can become wounded and poisoned, and of course they have healers to help you! So I ran up to him and - waited for something to happen. But XXX seemed not to be interested! I tried different distances, but nothing happend! And my life went down and down, so I panicked, and thought, what can you do? Talking! Of course, I had to talk with him! "HELP", I yelled, and POISON and INJURED and DYING and so on... But he was walking around in a relaxed manner, enjoying the beautiful day... and so I died my first death at the feet of XXX the wandering healer, and became so frustrated of this "dumb" game that I logged out and had a breake of several days... :gee:
