Remove Random Resource Changing in Ilshenar

Since the whole point of random resource was to stop recall gathering then it only makes since to leave Ish alone since you are not able to recall into Ish or even make runes there.

Its bad enough you have to run everywhere in Ish so please reconcider the changes to Ish.

Actually I dont believe thats the reason because recall mining is one of the fastest methods there is for mining. They randomized it so that no one can hog all the val spots verite spots etc.. this unfortunetly includes ilshenar etc which is just a pain to mine though using a fire beattle or one of those smelts near the mountains then using gypsie camps to bank makes it less tedius but still is not fast enough.

Of course, Tycolby and I like mining it for the Paragon ore elementals from the Gargoyle pickaxes.

I do all my garg pick mining in Ilshenar with a character that doesn't even have to stop swinging his pick if a non-paragon (and a most paragons other than copper & Valorite) ele spawns, and get about as much ore, thanks to the elementals, as I would have gotten in Fel using normal shovels/picks and a prospector's tool - without the risk of losing it all to a pk, and without having to compete with all the fel guard zone miners for turf.

But I've noticed a tendency for spots, when they do shift in Ilshenar, for all the ones that shift within a certain reset period, to ALL shift to the same material. For example, I had a stretch of wall near valor, that had most ore types in it, have most of the spots shift - and the stretch (from the Cyclopskin ALL the way to pass to the gate) turned to (before special tools) iron, Shadow iron, and BRONZE only (I can understand switches to the two of the 3 most common, but what caused the other 10 spots shift from whatever to only Bronze - and why no DC or copper spots?); a few days later, a few of the iron spots changed to DC, also simultaneously. Similarly, about a year ago, much to our delight, we had in one respawn, 10+ consecutive mining spots on one rock face SIMULTANEOUSLY change to Valorite, and stayed that way for a couple days.

Sometimes streaks are nice, sometimes not so. Either way, that kind of clumping/streakiness is not conducive to proper resource gathering...

Heh paragon elementals instant death to my poor miner. Now I remmeber another reason I dont mine there. But having streaks like that thats truly interesting. I never encountered anything like that as i work by resource squares. Could that long streched being just one large resource square?

Ok maybe I should have said to stop Script recalling gathering.

Since all the bots I have seen use this method of recalling to place to place to gather resources. The RCR is fine for places where recalls can be made hence stopping ppl from hogging all the Val, Ver etc, etc. As for Ish where you cant recall into, you have to walk to place to place. Since I dont run illegal 3rd party programs that run 24/7 I cant gather the needed resources i need to keep myself stocked.
So if you recall mine then you could effectively increase your chances of finding that Val spot or Ver spot. But over the course of a week or two what would the totals be from walking in Ish compared to recalling in Fel.

Lets say you find 8 spots in Ish that produce up to 10 Val piles on avg per dig. That would roughly give you about 80 ingots after smelting at 50%. You run that course up to 10 times a night. You would avg about 800 Val ingots a night. Over the course of two weeks that total would be 11,200 val ingots if your able to maintain a 50% smelt rate.

UOKaiser I would ask you to produce your avg for Val from recalling for two weeks to see if walking in Ish would be better or worse.

Personally, I've enjoyed the random spawning. While it was nice knowing where specific veins were, the current system really rewards exploration and fire beetle strip mining more than it does targetted spot mining.

Plus as the devs have said, they want rare ores/metals to be rare and standardized vien locations defeats this purpose (notice that other MMOs create a false sense of rarity by simply slapping the upper level ores in higher level "zones" to compensate for the lack of randomness).

As I stated in a previous thread, mining right now is almost PERFECT. Only changes I remember really being in favor of are adding the special gems into the Ore elem loot pool and having garg picks bring up dull copper elems (with corrected loot).

I agree with the Dull copper Fix. As it is now we waste more picks on DC now and are digging up less ore ellies because of that DC bug.

I'll try I usualy dont smelt gold and above and leave it in the bag i drop my ore to smelt it slowly over time or once i reach 60k of gold and above to make room my house can barely hold 1 more blackrock. Though I have a total count how much I goten today of mining in ore so far lets see im counting now. Ok here goes this is all in ore using prospect tools no gargoyle tools and random mining my 4-6 vein spots whith blue beattle and also grabbing stone as well I love the change to stone :) and I believe I started earlie today whith breaks my fingures get tired hitting the macros. 2327 iron ore 1737 dull 651 shadow 411 copper 384 bronze 237 gold 73 agapite 204 verite 142 val so thats a total of 6166 ore for today so far so thats 12332 ingots if i had 100% smelt rate so just got to add in the fail rate for each ore gold and above and thats what i have plus alot of stone dont know how much. if i didnt mine stone today the number would be alot higher in ore. oh and 1 blackrock 4 turqoise 5 dark sapphire 4 perfect emeralds 6 fire rubies 2 ecru 6 blue diamonds. I believe today was a slow day in higher metals and good gems. Usually I do better but it's all random so I cross my fingures and see what comes out.
Though you gather specific metals so you most likly always have more of a specific ore than i will as you focus and those spots. I on the other hand use a lot and i mean alot of ingots for my bod filling obsession. Which i collect low end bods from my characters .1 skill then at the end of the week i'll have like 300 iron and 300 cloth depending how much time i spend during the week letting all my characters collect. Then i fill them turn in fill turn in by the time im dont that round i'll have another round the week after to do. At the end of the month I fill in dull for more turn in and shadow above i fill them all and place them in large then save the rest to get high end items. The cloth i fill when i have free time. Any excess ingots gems i have I sell to keep cash flow going and save to have something to fall back on.

Well thats my craftman procedure :) DOnt get me started on when i hunt whith my guild or by myself or when im growing plants or reselling on my venders inscription etc.. I multi task i dont think theres one thing i dont do in UO just dont have the time for it all plus real life but i find it :)

Oh ps thats why I dont really do eles much just take too much time to dig recall and get my warrior but i do once in a blue if i really need to.

Once again here is the last "official" response from the dev team on the issue. From Aug 10, 2007 FoF:

"Why did you randomize resource spawn in this publish?"
This change is getting more debate right now than the PvP changes, so here's Wilki with the scoop:

"The resource change was made for several reasons, but mostly because of the obvious one: "Rare" resources aren't very rare if you can recall to a runebook full of them and collect as many as you want on demand. Besides just not making a whole lot of sense, we felt that this would limit any future systems that might rely on certain resources being more rare than others."

Nothing to do with scripting or folks hoggin all the spots. It's because all the legit miners who spent ages scouring countless mountainsides to fill books with the most choice mining spots somehow stuck a thorn up Wilki's backside and their unfair advantage must be eliminated. Sad he left because we are now coming up on the two year mark from this change and I have yet to see one single "future system" that might rely on certain resources being more rare than others. Even imbuing makes no claim to using anything mined other than rare gems... which oddly enough can be mined from any location. But thank god we are prepared for it.

Seems to me the only people who profit from this. Is the person who used scripts and hogged everything. The rest of us who only used what we needed, now get to buy if we have enough gold from those who scripted.

I hated the changes with lumberjacking it became not fun anymore. I have not gotten any frostwood since the change although I can buy off a scripter I am sure they are holding. Same thing will happen with mining.

Gathering resources is one of the boring things we have to do in game. I don't think anyone wants to spend hours upon hours with no pay off. It makes no sense. We play to have fun not to turn it into work.
