And you expected them to give up thier EM created ubber rares. A select few get rares and the rest get nothing, again. Thank you very much.

    Re: [News] Gargoyle Prophecy Fulfilled

No pictures of all the EM created ubber rares. For all those that were there we will get back to you for your reward. Rewards for the few again. Might as well turn the old EM system back on. EMs creating ubber rares again.

Re: [News] Aftermath: The Battle to Defend Britannia's Heart

Explain why we need to make role play items lootable at all, but at the very least for only a select few? We were pretty well fooled last event, being told we needed thieves and thunters to do this event.. templates that don't normally get in enough damage to get looting rights. With the loot script running rampant, even if a corpse goes to public, you can't compete with a script that sorts the entire contents in 2.5 seconds, auto looting the "rare".

I am hearing it more often... "EM events... talk talk talk.. fight, death robe death robe, talk, talk, talk.. same people get the rare.... blah blah blah...why bother... "

Re: [News] Aftermath: The Battle to Defend Britannia's Heart

They were normal books with few lines of appropriate text in it. Not a rare.

You needed a thief to finish the event. Also, the monster spawn at last event was pretty mild, relatively speaking. I know that my T-hunter would definitely get looting rights on them. However, I am not sure what template you are running.

It is my opinion that we do a rich variety of events on Baja. Events where you need to RP, where you need to kill monsters/players, and/or solve puzzles. The reward distribution has also been extremely varied to keep players on their toes and acknowledge more than one type of play style. It is something that we constantly think about as nothing makes us happier than rewarding players who participate in a positive manner. No one should come to an event expecting to be rewarded though.

If you find our events as "Talk Talk... Fight Fight... Talk Talk.." only then I am sorry for not meeting your standards. While humbly disagreeing with your assessment, I can only promise to try harder.

I apologize to the OP for contributing to the derailment of the purpose of this thread. Perhaps, a moderator can move the appropriate posts to a new thread in the EM forums.

First, I participate in most EM events and role playing. I'm there, partaking in them, limited on occasion by the time they are scheduled. I am a part of this community.

Second, post event discussions could be used as constructive criticism to make events better in the future. If it's not welcome or listened to, that's the choice of the EM's. There are trends developing in the way events are being carried out. Perhaps on purpose, perhaps not. People are noticing and commenting.

An actual conversation that happened the day after this last event (this isn't the first time, or the only people I've heard make similiar comments)...

"Did you go to last night's EM thing?"
"Yes, a few of us went."
"I decided I'd rather go to bed how did it go?"
"same ol, we went to the castle, we fought some monsters, got to the boss, some book in a chest, same people got the rares."
    "Did XXXXX get one?"
"Yeah I'm sure he got a couple."
"Would have been better to just skip the event and go do a couple harry's."
    "Yeah."

    Just a thought...

Is it possible to drop these rewards/rares in a random player's backpack (like Doom & Paragon Artifacts)? Could this bypass the looting scripts? I rarely (no pun intended) get to the loot in time due to severe lag.

Clearly, some of the events will involve meeting at the castle and getting a task. It is very convenient to start at throne room as everyone knows it.

An overview of the last 12 main EM events on Baja, with reward type:

    Event 1: Court Trial
What: Participate as defense or prosecution in a trial court
    Reward: Everyone who participated

    Event 2: Free Judge Erlington
What: Fight off Anti-Gargish forces (PvP + PvM)
    Reward: None

    Event 3: Finding Rouso
    What: Interview NPCs, solve puzzles
Reward type: Everyone who solved it

Event 4: Recovering Rouso's map fragment
    What: Ship battle
    Reward type: Mob loot

    Event 5: Finding Mowdly
    What: Interview NPCs, solve puzzles
Reward type: Everyone who solved it

Evert 6: Free Mowdly's ghost, recover 2nd fragment
    What: Ship battle
    Reward type: None

    Event 7: Mercenary attack
What: Defend various guilds/towns against mercenary attacks
    Reward type: Mob loot

Event 8: Find Jacko, recover 3rd map fragment
What: Interview NPCs, Solve puzzles, Fight mobs
Reward type: (1) Everyone who solved it, (2) Mob loot

    Event 9: Find 4th Fragment
    What: Interview NPCs, fight mobs
    Reward type: Mob loot

    Event 10: Attack Mercenary camp/recover 4th fragment
What: Ambush mercenary camp in Ilshenar
    Reward type: Mob loot

    Event 11: Black Tie Gala
What: Opening of Britannian Heraldric Society
    Reward: None

    Event 12: Prophecy revealed
What: Find the secret dungeon, kill guardians, solve maze, steal book
Reward: (2) Mob loots (1) Steal loot

Now, do we recycle same concepts? Yes. Are there events that require you to go fight mobs? Heck ya. Do we cut corners here and there due to lack of time? Unfortunately. However, I do not think this translates into hack and slash only. At the very least, there is always fiction accompanied to every event. I am very interested to see if more people feel this way. Granted, as a story line reaches its climax, there is bound to be more fighting involved.

In my opinion, the main thing we have been lacking in lately are events that allow for player versus player combat.

No, sir. That is not possible. Something that everyone should keep in mind is that we have instanced loot. This means that for a certain amount of time, only you can loot the items rewarded to you. If you do not check the corpse within the first few minutes, then the loot becomes public. So, I strongly encourage everyone to check a corpse because it happens quite often that a person does not loot their reward.

PvP events are always difficult to manage.

There is a certain level of frustration that comes from just dying in game. Add to that that your death was at the hands of another player, and further, that no one gets "looting" rights or that there is no prize, and it's an easy recipe for drama. I need not even mention that the effect and frustration level is doubled when you don't even like the player who just killed you...the suspicion levels and conspiracy theorists ran rampant no matter what is said or done.

It's an extremely tough balancing act for a mostly ungrateful crowd. I don't envy the jobs that EMs have to do, not one bit.

Not trying to derail the thread. Just trying to say...I'm certainly not looking forward to more of 'em. Not worth the grief.

From an EM perspective, the key to managing a PvP event is to not expect to have any control over it. I enjoy doing PvP events and for the most part we have gotten positive feedback about it. However, there are few issues that need to be addressed before we have more PvP focused events. But, that is a different topic.

Since, I believe this is one of the major grievance: I will go ahead and put myself on the chopping block and state that I do not believe that the same people keep winning rewards on Baja.

Some people are definitely better versed than the average player in doing certain types of events. They employ various tricks such as targeting the boss mob, not getting bogged down by other things, making sure they can dish out high damage, checking the corpse after it goes public, etc. However, at end of the day the mob based reward is given out randomly and I know dozens of names from the top of my head who have managed to pull some nice ones.

As an EM, we can only make sure that rewards are distributed in a variety of manner. I think we have made sure that we do events where players who prefer social interaction based play style (as opposed to fighting) are also rewarded. Same for players who like to solve puzzles.

But, there will also be events where you have to fight mobs with rewards on it.

I can tell you, the conversation I relayed in a previous post wasn't from me. Prior to that evenings events there were more than 13 players in the alliance out doing spawns. When the event started, I counted 3 people from same group who went to the event, I was the 4th. Two of the other people who went to the event made those comments about it afterward.. to people who decided it wasn't worth their time to even stay logged and come to the event.

That's the feedback I'm relaying. This feedback can be blown off, ignored, dismissed or taken as feedback with which to ponder for future events.

... oh.. and how do we check our notoriety score with the thief? It seems I can't get him to speak.

I don't really follow your feedback. As I posted earlier, nearly 50% of the past 12 events had little to no "killing of a monster" involved. Also, 33% of them had rewards for everyone that participated. That goes against the claims you are making with your feedback.

So, I am more than a little confused. It sounds like you would like to see a reward for each event that you attend. Is that it? I am not really following. What is it that you would like to see change?

Say your name in front of the log book for notoriety points. It should work, I just tested it.

In the Gargoyle Prophecy Fulfilled there was a septor, a book and etched necklaces in the mob lot. Not everybody that got looting rights got these things. You are putting unique items in the loot that only a few are getting them. Armor pieces were also in mob loot at another event and not all got those. After event we are told that we will rewarded later. If you put one of a kind item in an event it should have a timer on it. Already people are spamming to buy that Septure.

You had an event where you stated
Why is this. They are rare and people are selling them.

You are doing what the old EMs did, creating event rares. Everybody gets the same reward or nobody get anything. Do not put unique items in mob loot and anything that is one of a kind has a timer on it and is turned into the EMs so thier name can be put on it and put at EMs house for display.

Look at the Baja Trade and see where someone is asking to buy the Septure. Why is this? Because you (the EMs) created another ubber event rare.

Wouldn't it be really odd if we all got a skull of Trubo Saius?

How many heads would that imply the man had?

There are no uber event items, only renamed, re-hued items. This last year and a half has seen more EM activity than many other years. It has been really fun, and there is nothing "uber" about the reward items that may or may not fall.

Agreed. The items don't do squat, have no mods, and are nothing but worthless deco. There are collectors that pay big money for them, but at this current rate, and all the EM event items that keep getting dropped or passed out, no collector is going to have enough money to keep justifying that amount of money on them.

Maybe one day Baja specific event items will make their way back to Baja when everyone is done paying huge money for them.

Frodo~ I don't know who you are.. and you don't know me so I don't appreciate you thinking im looking for an "uber rare" to perhaps sell or xshard.. I happen to collect things.. I don't buy items to resell or take to another shard... and this is one of the event items that caught my eye.. I don't get rewards from each event I do.. nor do I ***** and moan about it either.. I don't see why people come on here thinking they deserve a reward for partcipating in something.. I go to have fun.. something to do... and because I wasn't one of the lucky ones to obtain the scepter I thought I'd put an ad to buy one.. is that so wrong? Because I want it for my collection? It isn't some uber rare.. uber rare is 1 item that falls for the whole event.. 7-10 of these fell.. so this isn't some high end rare... just like the necklaces.. same deal.. if it was so rare I wouldn't have gotten 2 and my friend wouldn't of gotten 3... the thing doesnt even have any unique properties on it.. it's the name.. and the hue that I liked..

I seam to remember when the EM program was being talked about that it was said that there would be no unique items and that rewards would be for all not some. That has all there has been latley is few getting unique items that do not norm. spawn and selling/buying for millions. Just like the olde EM Program. I do not care if it has special items or not. If it is an item that does not spawn then it should be for all not just a select few. That was the downfall of the last EM Program and it will be the same for this one. People will stop coming because they get tired of fight with XSharders and rares hunters. After every event all you hear at luna is "Buying blah blah" or "Selling blah blah" Just like the old EMs this new EM Program is starting to do the same thing. These events are suppose to be about getting together, not how many items did you get tonight, want to sell one, how much you offering. That is what I hear after them and it is a shame our EM Program has turned into this.

I loved the way they did the contests. The awards were placed at the EMs house, for all to see, with the players names on them. These unique items that people are getting should be no different. Put a timer on them so the player has to give them back to the EM to be placed in the EMs house or they go by-by. If you want to give out items then give them to everybody like they have done in the past. That is the best way to do something like this. Everybody gets one or they go to the EMs house.

Frodo, we have been dropping rewards at an event for almost 2 years now. This is not something new. Also, you need to stop using the phrase "select few" because there is no selection of who gets the reward. That phrase makes absolutely no sense.

One should come to an event without any expectation of a reward. As a player, I have won zero rewards in over 10 years of attending events. Even after becoming an EM and knowing how things work, I still have not managed. The key for me to continue to enjoy events is to not worry about who did or did not get the reward. If finally I did manage to win, then it will be fabulous. Till then, I will simply enjoy the challenge and the story.

Also, once again, the books were normal books that you can buy from a NPC vendor and had nothing rare about it.

SuperKen: I would guess that over 90% of the event items dropped over past 2 years are still on Baja.

I never said that anybody was selecting who got them. I got looting rights to a lot of kills during the last event and only saw normal loot, none of these necklaces that some people got. Was there only one necklace per monster? The septure was one of a kind. Who made it? Why only one? Why after the event were we told that we would get our reward later?

I remember events that nothing special dropped, events that Conjors robes were dropping like flies, events that everybody got gifts after it was over. I had to go south for a couple of months and now special items / unique items are the norm now. Why the change? Did you turn down the spawn rate on them so not as many are dropping or did you turn up the damage rate so only the top damager gets it?

There were multiple scepters and necklaces. Scepters were on the sphynx and necklaces were on Succubus (1 per). The only item that was 1 of a kind was the book because plot demanded it to be that way.

Some events will have no rewards, some where all participants will get a reward, and some where there are only a limited amount of rewards. That has been the system for some time now.

I guess that screws over any collectors that paid big money for anything already.

As for me, if the item isn't used in PvP, it's worth nothing to me.

This recurring philosophy that people would want to participate only if they're guaranteed a reward makes me sad. :(

I usually enjoy the events. I'm about the slowest looter in the west and I've managed to grab a couple mercenary pieces just by dogged persistence and trying to follow every EM event that I can for reporting purposes. I didn't get any of the Trubo or Prophecy items, and I really don't care. The mercenary helm sits locked down at my house. That's it. Just sits. It doesn't DO anything. It's got lousy stats. It's kinda cool to look at, but that's it. Do you want it?

We have events where everyone receives loot. We just had the Fourth of July event and the Crystal Case. I just fundamentally disagree with this philosophy that Ultima has to be on the vending machine loot system like Warcraft to be fun for people. There are a few reasons I don't play Warcraft. The element of unpredictability that Ultima brings is a big one. If every event starts at the same time at the same place with the same guaranteed rewards, you rip all of the things that make it special away. Maybe all you want is to show up with the guarantee that you'll always get yet another hued sash, but I don't.

    I really, really don't.

4th of July UO gives out fireworks and they made it an event.
Crystal Case yes everybody got one.
All other events lately unique items to the top damager.

What happen to the events that were about community and no unique items dropped. Those were fun.

What happened to the events that if unique items were dropping the drop rate was a lot higher.

EM events are suppose to be about comminuity, not about getting unique items that people ask millions for. That is what a lot of these events are becoming now.

Okay. That's valid, just don't make inferences that they don't happen anymore, please. :)

    They still happen.

So you're saying it should be all or nothing, that's a perfectly valid opinion. I don't necessarily agree, but I get it.

And here's why I disagree: how would that be different if you have 20 people with items worth 10 million instead of 4 people with items worth 75 million? It seems the only solution to your concern is to shut EM events off entirely. Forever. I'm not in support of that.

The economy is going to do what it does. I favor creating events (and occasional rewards) for the sake of the event, not the economic impact. These aren't items with uber-stats anymore. That went away because people complained. They're "all-i-got-was-this-lousy-t-shirt"s. If someone wants to sell one for $50M and someone else wants to pay $50M for it, I think that's a waste of good gold, personally, but I'm not going to say we should stop making t-shirts altogether.

Please refer to the earlier post I made for the breakdown of the last dozen events on Baja. Specifically, look at the reward types. As you can see that your claim is false. I did not even include the holiday events in that list (Finding Alice, and 4th of July) which also had rewards for everyone.

Regarding, the post you are referring to: That policy was thrown out of the window within few weeks because scores of other players like the idea of potentially receiving a reward at an event.

    Event 1: Court Trial
Not everyone that was asked to be there by the prosecution was called to testify because they had nothing new to add to the trial that had not already been said. Guess it was taking to long and they needed to speed it up. Because they did not testify, they received nothing.

    Event 2: Free Judge Erlington
Good fight. Lots of death robes.

    Event 3: Finding Rouso
    You are right.

Event 4: Recovering Rouso's map fragment
Mob loot with unique items in loot to top damager only

    Event 5: Finding Mowdly
    You are right

Event 6: Free Mowdly's ghost, recover 2nd fragment
Not sure about this one, was not there.

    Event 7: Mercenary attack
Mob loot with unique items in loot to top damager only

Event 8: Find Jacko, recover 3rd map fragment
    1 You are right.
2 Mob loot with unique items in loot to top damager only

    Event 9: Find 4th Fragment
Mob loot with unique items in loot to top damager only

    Event 10: Attack Mercenary camp/recover 4th fragment
Mob loot with unique items in loot to top damager only

    Event 11: Black Tie Gala
    Nice event, community gets together.

    Event 12: Prophecy revealed
Mob loot with unique items in loot to top damager only
Lots of people spamming who had it so no choice in turning it in.
Also everyone was told at the end of the event that they would recieve thier reward later for participating.

    My statement is not false.
Every mob loot had unique items in it that only the top damager got.
And one event you even had to make up an imaginary good Samaritan who turned in a copy to the proper authorities!

    1) I have said this few times already but I will repeat. The documents that the invasion forces dropped were simple books bought from the NPC provisioner. They dropped because it makes logical sense to uncover clues pertaining to further attacks from the corpses of enemy forces. Most likely they were overlooked.

    2) Beh-Lem mentioned that he will arrange for a reward to celebrate the fact that things turned out well. He may or may not be successful in doing so. Also, even if it does happen, not everyone who was in attendance at that event will be necessarily present.

    3) Anyone who obtains looting rights has a chance to earn a reward from a mob that has one. You do not need to be a top damager. However, if 40 people receive looting rights then your probability to get a reward is N/40, where N = number of rewards on that particular mob. So, not very high.

At end of the day, all players had opportunities to receive a reward at multiple occasions in multiple ways. The events are generally 1-2 hours of time investment and the reward rate is arguably higher than doing champion/peerless/Doom spawns.

I am not even sure what we are discussing any longer. To summarize, There will be events where number of rewards are lot less than number of players doing an event. There will also be events where everyone who participates earns a reward. Finally, there will be events where there are no rewards.

Mob based reward events will most likely constitute 50% of all events because higher number of people tend to be more enthusiastic about those. But, from time to time, we will definitely put in events which require a different skill set/play style and also get rewarded for it. I hope that answers your questions.

I think handing out rewards to everyone to entice them to do the event is silly. I've been to lots of events and I've only got a guard sash. It's sometimes disheartening when someone says "wow I got 3 of x", but that's just jealousy. I enjoy having the chance at a reward, though, something unique. I also like that I get to have the experience of having "legendary" battles with unique monsters with lots of people. As long as everyone has an near equal chance at rewards (can't have noobie chars popping in to get them) then I see no issue in keeping them rarer. BTW Mr. EM I have enjoyed your events so far. The last one was pretty neat and a huge thanks to (their name escapes me) who told us how to get out of the last part of the maze.

I have seen the "Select few" phrase used for EM event items before. Most of the time the problem is the reward is given to the top damage dealers. If you know the template to use you can guarantee you will ALWAYS get a drop. If the rewards are coming from the Mobs, I suggest you most definitely do not use a RP character. Use the gimp template if you just want the reward and no the gimp template is not a archer or tamer.

Ps. Just check the corpses when they go public. That is how I nabbed up the Assassin tool.

I think Frodo's point, I know he's not alone, I'm also hearing this comment..

EM event item drops should either be given for everyone who participated or there shouldn't be any items dropped in that event. There shouldn't be any 1 of a kind items created for EM events. It doesn't matter that there were actually 4 of this one and 10 of that... the point is, why wasn't there 59? or 76? Or however many people came and participated in the event?

My personal thought is this.. that is valid feedback for EM events.. but it's not being listened to or at least given the courtesy of a facade of being listened to... such a response would be something like.. "thanks for your comments. I hear you and I understand your point of view. I will think on it" ... to be followed with something like "I've been thinking about your comments, and I feel that making a unique item that only a few participants are able to get for these EM events is more important than giving it to everyone."

It's feedback that is being ignored, dismissed and argued with. The response is ...."You're wrong.. here's why you're wrong..... I like it the way it is... here's where I justify myself..." that is the part that's not very conducive to growth and making the events better.

I can understand having unique items given out for some EM events.. Easter Bunny with the eggs and carrots is one such.. or T-Day food items, turkey drumsticks come to mind.

But unique items for events which feed into the RP arc makes no sense. There's no incentive for peeps to play first aiders or other support roles..like messengers, or battlefield scouts.... something Baja has a very strong history in.. speaking from personal experience.. 5 years or so ago, we had a massive day long battle with one of the nastiest NPC's I've ever seen, a jailer of sorts.

OK I've forgotten his name but we had to go rescue Inu. First a treacherous journey to get to the area (sorry dungeon name escapes me) through spider cave, ethereal dungeon, Reg Volom, get the passwords, try to get past a host of monsters and hide out in a small hallway where it was nearly impossible to put even a piece of food on the floor. If you managed to get there it was usually dead. Through the doorway was the jailer. It ate pets with ease ( and regenerated full health with any dead corpse nearby) and dispatched players with 1 hit.

Myself, Mama Faith (and please forgive not remembering the names) but at least 4 other people spent the better part of 6 hours doing nothing but healing and rezzing people who made it to the hallway. Several stealthers spent the day ferrying supplies of food/aids/pots. You couldn't take more than 20 aids in with you.. as Mr Nasty looted them off your bod, if you could find your body in the stack of 10 deep. Didn't matter, you didn't survive long enough to use 20 aids.

I tell this tale, because it's probably one of my top 2 UO memories of all time. Even now I type this with a huge smile on my face. I bet if you could ask those who where there that day, they would tell you the same. We had the entire shard there that day... we went through the morning afternoon and evening shifts of players. I don't think there was a single item given out that day.. if there was, I never would have spent 6 hours in the hallway healing/rezzing peeps. I never would have worked with a crew of people to get aids and pots and food into our area. I never would have helped coordinate that effort.

During our recent battle to kill Trubo, as soon as I saw him I immediately switched to kill him. I ignored everything else. Even when I was targeted by other monsters, I casted invis and re targeted him as fast as I could. Let someone else deal the with them. I ignored players who needed rezzes and even though I had other lifebars up, I ignored their needs for heals/cures because it might have caused me to miss that one or two spells worth of damage that I might have gotten. I will be the first to state.. this was self serving behavior. I've spent many hours role playing my characters resistance to Trubo and his corruption. I suspected there was some sweet rare/artie on Trubo (he's been such a strong figure in our story arc as of late and killing him is a very big thing).. and I wanted it. Turns out there was.. only 1 and of course I didn't get it.. I did end up rezzing one of our reporters a couple of times... did that cost me the drop.. I'll never know. Will I stop to help other players on our shard if there's those uber rare drops? Not ever again. Do I expect others to stop and help me? Nope. Was killing Trubo in my top 10 list? Doesn't even register on my list.

The last Brit invasion, did anyone notice the healing/aid station set up on top of the Guard Outpost? Did anyone notice during the invasion, no one was there.. everyone was out fighting. Did anyone notice some people lured monsters off to less populated places so they could do as much damage w/out competition? Assuming they did this for the chance to get that rare drop all to themselves.

So.. long post, and apologies for that. But to anyone that takes the time to comprehend this change, it's worth at the very least noting...that its been a trend to provide unique and rare items for a few, than to produce events that foster a sense of shard and community and cooperation.

If this is the trend that is desired, wanted and coordinated.. then so be it. If it isn't, then it's time to examine this aspect of our EM events with an open mind.

Yalp, that was a thoughtful post and I think more constructively written than some of the others in this thread. Thanks.

So, I missed the jailer event. But your post made me think: when you went to fight the jailer, did they tell you in advance that there would not be any rewards? I mean, why did your behavior change between the jailer and Trubo?

Just a clarification, you mentioned arties. I don't think arties drop from EM events anymore. If that's not true, someone please correct me, but I think all of our items have been rares, not arties.

My last question, which is meant constructively, is let's say you're the EM. What kind of reward would you have given to everyone who attended the Trubo event that would make sense within the story? It can't be the skull of Trubo, or Trubo's ring, or Trubo's anything, really, because that would break the in-character presumption that Trubo only has one skull or one ring or whatever (which is why those kinds of events tend to only spawn one of each). So what kind of gift would you have created that makes sense within the story that all 54 people would appreciate?

Yalp, there was no reason for you to believe that there was no drop on the jailer. Events back then did drop rewards, after all. Sometimes even with powerful mods which does not happen anymore.

Only thing that has changed is that now you seem to want to go for a reward even at the sake of risking your interaction with the rest of the community. That is a personal choice. Just as several players choose to set up aid stations and not go after the boss. There is absolutely no reason for you to chase pixels if it is preventing you from doing what you find as fun. This is why I also try to reward role playing whenever I can, e.g. town guards, independent kingdoms, court trial, poetry recital. This allows players who enjoy being immersed in the world to be also rewarded.

Just realize that everyone has a different idea of fun. The best middle path is to have a varied system of rewards (rare, everyone, none) and try to make sure that they make sense plot wise - i.e. not have them simply for having a reward. I accept that there are instances when a reward makes little sense and are added more of an afterthought. That should not happen.

On your part, you should resist the urge to chase rewards and play in a manner that best suits you. If anyone believes that they have figured out when Seppo/Crys will drop a reward, then they are mistaken. If you join events only to win rewards then you are bound to be disappointed. There is really nothing more I can state on this matter.

why have ANY rare item drops during any story arc event. (excluding the holiday or non-story arc events of course).... these drops are for one or a few people.. while the story arc takes the entire community to put together, whether it takes everyone playing their part in the garg v. anti-garg, the trials, the repelling of town invasions or the raiding of an opponents stronghold.. one player can't do this individually, everyone needs to work together. But having a rare drop even if it's 10, during these types of events, rewards the few, while excluding the whole.... even though the few NEED everyone to help them get to that rare item.

So for example Trubo's demise. "a tattered piece of trubo's robe" or "a bloodied piece of tunic"... "a shattered piece of blackrock necklace" or some such.

That aid station was in a very bad spot and I personally moved around Britain to help groups that were fighting. I personally did not cast one offensive spell and was busy casting greater heal on players and the pets tanking the Blackrock Golem and invisible on myself to avoid being targeted myself.

Aye, I was on heals, not offense, that day too. The aid station was the first spawn point of the golems and after I was immediately extinguished (two or three times) we disbanded the guard-station healing post to run out and heal the dragons scatter-style.

  42. The Queen had ordered the Town Guards to man the wall and to keep the portcullis closed so the Blackrock Golums could not enter the city. This meant that I did relatively little during the attack other than run along the length of the wall closing the gates that a few people insisted on trying to keep open even after being told they were to be kept closed per the Queen's orders. After the first 5 minutes I was the only Town Guard manning the wall. I was given a role to play and being the good little soldier that I am I stuck to it. Once in a while, when all the gates were down and the known gate openers had disappeared for a few minutes I was able to run around the city to see where the trouble spots were and advise in chat.

I've had other characters participate in the various attacks that have healed, cured and rez'd other players while also attacking the invaders. There was one day when another tamer, an archer and my tamer took on a rouge Blackrock golum which took at least an hour for us to kill. So like everyone else I have some investment in the story arc.

I for one am glad that there are those that found the rewards. I would much rather that someone get lucky and get that special something that we all had a chance to get. I much prefer this to no one getting anything or everyone getting the same thing all the time. These items, for the most part, become a part of our shards history. It makes our history all that much richer and alive. We have evidence of that history that reminds us of where we have been and what we have done.

It may be a rather simplistic philosophy but I participate in events so I can be part of a whole, to be part of a group, so I can say I was there, to do something different other than the normal game choices. I don't spend time analyzing the event or critiquing it. I appreciate it for what it is. A group of people spent a lot of time before hand getting things ready to make an event happen and I for one appreciate their efforts.

Days where we all get a reward are nice too. To me this is a gift. I don't go to an event in game expecting a gift anymore than when I go to an event irl. It is a gift!

If a few decide to sell their reward off shard, well, that's their decision. I may not like it but it is theirs to do as they please. The only thing I would like to see is that they try and sell it on its home shard first before taking it off shard.

I think most of us understand what you are saying Yalp but I think that most of us don't agree with your point of view. I don't think we need to offer any apologies because of that.

I know this may sound cynical but I think the following saying applies to events: You can please some of the people all of the time, some people some of the time, but some people you just can't please any of the time.

After reading all these posts, I can only come to the conclusions that there are a few sour-ignorant-immature people in this game. Bottom line is, if you don't like it, DON'T ATTEND THEM. OMG, how difficult is that? It sounds like a Homer Simpson epsiode where you hate putting your finger in the light socket and yet you keep doing it. When you say "a few people complain" yup, you said it right on the nose, ONLY A FEW. What you don't hear is the 10 times the amount of people who ARE satisified with the way it is.

Your accusations of the EM program closing prior based on attendance is pure BS. At the time, they were going through company realignment and they didn't feel they had the budget to support the EM program. Furthermore, if you do go to purely role play events knowing there are no rewards you will see the attendance drastically drops. This has been proven time and time again across all shards where EM will pre-announce a no-item event and hardly anyone shows up.

When you say only a selected few get the rewards and making it unfair. I hope you don't adopt this philosophy in real life because if you do that's the "real shame" because you won't get far in life as this Socialistic/communisitc point-of-view is all a wishfull dream and unrealistic as there is still a bimodel distribution of wealth in such socities.

The select few who get the rewards is what exactly how the EM stated it, i.e. not because of "priviliged few" but rather "experience". I've attended over 1,000 events on 19 shards since EM season 1. I put in the time where many don't so why shouldn't I be good at what I do? Do I go for the storyline "hell yes" that helps me remember how I got the item and the fond memories of getting it.

And why does it bother you so much when the few get the items and you don't? If that happened to me, I would not be complaining it here but go back to the drawing board and look at my character make-up, look at my armor and weapons and try harder. That's the American way and that's why the world come to us when they need help and yet still spit at us every chance they get. Its just sickens me how this attitude is even showing up in this game now. The United States of America was established based on the euqal opportunity of every man/woman given the chance for success and not every man/woman should get the same thing.

Again, please learn the difference between EQUAL OPPORTUNITY and EQUAL DISTIBUTION

Would expect this from one of the biggest rares collectors in UO. You were one of the biggest whiners around when the shoe was on the other foot. OMG no more event rares/everybody gets rewarded, WHINE WHINE WHINE. Yes I attend events and will continue attending them. I guess you will continue spamming after all events that you are buying event rares like you always do. That is your only concern that you will lose all your rares.

There doesn't seem to be anything more constructive to be said on this subject. Everyone keeps going round and round. If the EM wants this re-opened then he or she cam PM me or an Admin. Till then this discussion is closed.
