I'm trying to send you a private message but it is giving me this error

    Database Error Database error
The Stratics Forums database has encountered a problem.

So Il'l make a post, you can decide and then delete this thread.

There are polls regarding classic uo and define classic uo, but people are getting confused in them and making their own version of non-existing histories uo's. I want to try to keep that out of the discussion so I am setting up a thread specifically for them. To that end, can you please unlock my poll so those people can discuss utopia online, and people who want to frame a time period of uo as "classic" uo to continue posting in Draconi's thread without having to deal with nonsensical non-existing version of the games history please?

    Thanks.

Are you dense? They are all nonsensical and non-existing. There has been several confirmation that none of the old code exists.

    Quit crying.

    ?? What ??

So does that mean we can put insta-kill unicorn farts into uo and call it uo classic because the server code is missing? I know I am a fairly simple guy but that rational completely escapes me.

if you really want a good view how uo worked then check out the publishes.

A site has links to them might be uoguide or another and then compile from there how the eras differed.

A real classic shard would be annoying .. do you remember that you had to cut bandages one by one?
Do you remember the menus to scroll?

I mean i made macros for that and looped that annoying stuff - in newer more clever developed games such annoyances (time sinks) are not there anymore

I locked it. It makes no sense, and only further confuses the two original sides of the whole classic shard argument.

It makes perfect sense, it gives a venue to the people who want to make up their own version of uo a place to discuss it. If you keep my thread locked, can you please moderate Draconi's thread and have people limited to discussions pertaining to a version of the game that actually existed? Or at least ask Draconi to clarify if he means Classic in the sense of how the game was actually played in different time periods, or faux-classic player run shards where everyone gets to make up their own rules and be their own Lead Designers?

Personally I would think it is the basic rulesets and not all features.

Seems like something you could ask Draconi, yourself. A mod can't force someone to share their perspective.

Yes I remember all those things. I only have 2 distinct versions of uo in my head. UO before trammel and then uo after trammel. I stopped playing after trammel so I don't know all the other versions or changes that have been made since then. I also know a very brief time period where anatomy stunned with wrestling, and you could play a swords mage again but the powerscrolls kinda made everything wonky and not really fairly balanced. IT was something like publish 16 or 17 or 19. I played for a few months then, but I wouldn't consider that to be a "good" period in my memory of uo, but I was willing to test it out when I heard about the changes.

Right, I guess you're right. But could you at least filter out the factitious version of uo people are coming up with? If it isn't based in a real era of the game, it can't be considered classic. This is why nobody can form a consensus on what classic is, we're letting everyone put their own stipulations on the whole thing. We look like children arguing with each other about imaginary friends in the eyes of the people who would actually take the time to develop a classic uo.

Yes, the stun things and so those are pvp features and not so big.
Bods.. repair deeds, insurance, bonding ..such stuff is big .. precasting yes/no is something for a few diehards
    :p

For me I just want the elemental resists gone, magic resist being a skill that resists magic .. however it does that. done away with most of the hlm, fc, and such stuff and keep a few in.. but not a myriad with silly caps

I would prefer keeping customized housing or the new boats and pirates, but well can live without it

After that I don't really mind and just want a decent storyline to play along

the basic rule set is still there, in felucca, on live. Trammel is just an added feature. Yes? AoS item properties are just a feature, the ruleset in felucca is still the same as it's always been isn't it? Can you not murder people? Can you not hunt murderers? Can you not mine or harvest wood? Do banks not work in felucca? How has the ruleset changed in aos from uo:r that causes people to want uo:r without trammel? Trammel to me, is just a feature.

So you don't want a classic uo server then. You want a game feature that you don't like, removed. So does these people who want uo:r without trammel. It's not a classic server if you just wanna undo certain aspects you don't like because everyone has aspects they don't like.

There are lots of aspects in t2a I don't like, I'm not asking for any of them to be changed, edited, redone, tweaked, etc.

If a classic server is to be seriously discussed, all this nonsense has to be cut out. These people have to remove their own personal views from the table and talk only in eras. I mean that in earnest.

What if somebodies idea of classic uo is santa's sleigh server? What about the abyss server? Do we have to the incorporate that stuff to appease that body of people? Do we keep poisoning changes in and take out dex penalties to appease certain other people? People who want to put their own stipulations on a classic server, make it impossible for a classic server to be made.

Taking statloss out was a game breaker as rper for me in fel
That was when a dev decided fel is a pvp facet and i just left and the sad thing is the developers did not even realize it :(

AOS and item dependency is another game breaker
WOW has a super interface where I can see on one look how useful an item is - In uo you can guess/check then start calculating -that is not user friendly and I dislike item hunting in wow but at least thereit is done right - and UO is a good example how it is done wrong for all developers in training

The problem is and people say it right that no one would want a classic server with all bugs/features in.

10 years ago mmos were new and rough and plain simple developers were very naive. You would not get an audience for it and rightly so.
There are freeshards already copying almost 100% T2a rules and another almost 100/ P15/16 rules

Nobody would want? Did they shut down the servers after they released t2a until they came out with uo:r to save a game that nobody wanted? I'm 1 person, I want it. To at least sound appropriate in this thread, please say "farquhar, geez buddy. You're the ONLY one on the planet would want to play a t2a server"

Hehe, EA is about the money not to please a minority

At what amount of accounts do you think ea could make a profit on a 'classic' server

My guess would be 5000 accounts - For that you might need 2 servers ... hmm

Your guess is as good as mine. None of which can be ascertained by either one of us. I'll say - guaranteed 1 million accounts, which amounts to a hill of beans. That's for somebody other than me to decide. What we're being asked is what constitutes a classic version of uo should they decide to roll one out. I will tell you what doesn't constitute a classic version of uo though, and that is my idealized version I fantasize about and make critical amendments to every Thursday evening after dinner.

Draconi just posted a poll asking the exact same question you did, only worded much much better. Why don't you all go play in that thread eh?
