I am asking. With this recent wave of scripter catches etc ingots on Sonoma are about damn near impossible to buy. If you can find someone willing to sell, they are wanting outrageous amounts for the higher end ones. One of these amounts was 250 per for valorite. I can understand keeping the scripters out. That does not bother me one bit. Paying 250 gold for a val ingot does. Everyone on this forum cannot argue the fact that the scripters did control the market, but they kept the prices fairly decent. 100 was most you paid for an ingot. I would like peoples input on if they should or not.

For the woods I have never LJed for them or really used them other than for enhancing. I always bought from the great BOD house that was every shard. Bought 10k each and have not needed more. So cannot really say much on this subject.

The explaination we got from Jeremy was they wanted the rare woods/ores to be well rare. The change was not targeted at scripters.

It wasn't about killing scripters, just trying to correct a situation where the supposedly high end resources were just as easy to come by as the plain wood and iron. Which was stupid.

At the end of the day, the rarer resources aren't going to be on tap any more, so you either need to adjust your usage around that or collect some of your own.

The changes to the way that resources are allocated was part of a multi-step change to the "faucet"/input side of the UO economy model.

The goal is to slow down the introduction of higher end resources as well as the input of gold on the whole, not just in the case of scriptors.

As it is, UO can't use the static model for resources in the same way level based games do because there aren't the zones broken up by level range in UO that you see in those games, so you can't simply throw the higher end resources into those areas and keep them reasonably rare. (The only difference being leather as it's on various creatures of various challenge ratings)

As a compromise, they made the system dynamic which allows the desired rarity to be achieved.

The big change people have to make is that "targeted" resource gathering is basically gone. Now you just have to set aside a block of time to "strip mine" harvest when it comes to lumberjacking and mining and stockpiling until you need that particular resource.

The BIGGEST thing that needs to happen due to this is that they REALLY need to make Stone stackable so that the stonecrafters can stockpile more reasonably.

  6. I think that they should consider making Ilshenar more static / less dynamic. If you take the time to explore/prospect/map Ilshenar, your discoveries should stick around longer.

Also it would be nice if you could find a gem, say opals, when you are mining sand.

It doesn't really matter anymore, just about all the legit miners I knew have quit anyway and I just don't play anymore.

One of the worst changes in a long long time.

Hmmm... I'm mining right now and have seen another today where I'm located and see a few from time to time around my cabin.

I wouldn't say ALL legit miners have quit by any stretch.

Even found a Valorite vein so far today.

If you really, and I mean REALLY think about it... the changes, and I mean ALL the changes, to crafting/resources have really come together.

Step 1: Add +resists via Arms Lore
Step 2: Make rare materials... rare!
Step 3: Increase the usefulness of runics (so rare materials are not AS required).
Step 4: Fix all the miss/lossed rolls on runics.

Now its possible to make decent armor/weps without high end resources...
I'd say 99% of all armor is still going to be leather, considering it's abundance, and usefulness in crafting... plus as far as weapon bonus' go, I'd rather use Agapite for weps then Valorite for PvP, considering Cold resist is usually most peoples weak point...

plus, a prospector's tool takes care of any problems that may arise while mining, but maybe lumberjacks need a "prospector's tool" for wood to even it out?

Valorite should be rare and I like it the way it is now. Last week, I had 3 verite/valorite spot near my house. Right now, I have 3 Bronze/Gold spot so not bad at all.
I like when I find a new nice spot.

    TTL: Hi Freja!

Resources should *not* be static again, however, a change should be made to metal types to include better properties upon enhancing, not just damage type, durability, or luck. We need SSI, DI, and whatever else the wood types give. Same for shields. Wood gives HPR and something else, metal should do the same for heaters (although I must admit lower requirements are fairly desirable with metal armor, especially samurai)

    Sorry, OT minirant, nm me...*mumble*

The only thing it did was line the scripter pockets as they raisesd prices accordingly. I am sorry that I am a casual player who fills colored bods for the rewards. I do some trading from my collectoin to other collectors. Its a damn shame though that I cannot find the ingots to fill my BODs. Its bad enough trying to get the bods to fill the larges, but now I gotta spend another 36 hours mining to get the 600 val ingots I will need to fill the bod. I use that as an example.

Owe. BTW. I dont use val ingots when crafting. I use DC usually. I also dont use barbed for barbed kits. I get better gear IMO when I use horned leather. Spreads resists better for the default.

    NO.

I am now personally enjoying my crafter's daily life again since the change of Runics and BODs that Wilki left to us. This set of changes was very good. It is harder now than before to get rare resources, but we can get more valueable results from them.

I met some other miners in F, too, and please listen, a PK has attacked me yesterday! I didn't see any miner PKs in a couple of years. It shows that miners are coming back.

I think Japanese players enjoy this set of changes(making resources ramdom, change of Runics and BODs) very happily.

Well all legit crafters are in the same position. I don't have much crafting time in UO either, and would prefer to see the scripters gone before the change, but if they vanish now, and their houses burn, the economy might heal a little.

Then you'll find honest crafters like me, who don't use many ingots, will go out and mine as a way to make money. We're in an awkward place just now, where the cheats are still able to collect more resources. Hopefully that's addressed very soon.

How the heck are you getting more valuable results? What the ressources give haven't changed.

Maybe scriptminers. The popularity of mining scripts have skyrocketed.

So after 10 years..... They finally realized that the "rare" ores should really be "rare"...

Seems like it wouldnt take a rocket scientist to figure that one out...

But I guess it takes a very long time!

I initially cared that they stay static because I had just spent a couple weeks mapping out a few frost/heart/bloodwood spots and started working the Community Collections for some nice items. I managed to get what I wanted before the change so now, I could care less. I don't bother lumberjacking anymore, I have enough boards to GM 3 carpenters and 3 bowyers now. [IMG] Maybe when they implement more uses for the rare woods I will consider beating my head, err... I mean axe, against a tree again.

I enjoyed the hunt for elusive trees and slowly growing a library of runes, but eventually it started to degenerate into a war of attrition of who was willing to spend the most time waiting to get in a few chops in the moments after the respawn before anyone else arrived. I was not a fan of randomized resources at the time it was rolled out, but I have to admit that although I haven't tried for a collection reward in some time, the actual act of wandering around harvesting is more enjoyable (for me).

High end Ore isn't too uncommon, especially with Prospector's Tools and Gargoyles Pickaxes (Gotta love them 50 Ingots off each Ore Ele), however the rate at which you get high end colored wood is ATROCIOUS, nearly non existant. People have spent hours on hours for weeks LJing, and not see a single Frostwood tree, or even a Bloodwood or Heartwood. The highest most people see in several hours of LJing is Ash.

If i remember right, one of the Devs stated that Metal would recieve Bonuses similar to Wood does when SA comes out. However noone has heard news about SA in a long time. Think it's due to the fact that it was originally only gonna be accessable in KR, like how Ilsh was with 3D, then EA realized that KR was a complete flop with the majority of players (Like 3D was), and are now having to backpedal.

The legitimate miners figured out how to work with the changes, used their brains and now are in better shape than ever. Just because you could not cope does not mean the rest of us are in the same boat. One of my miners has been getting more Valorite in Tram than they ever did in Fel. Of course when I am smelting it I am generally standing over the body of a Valorite Elemental.

(it may be just me or the RNG, but seems to smelt more reliably as well)

In all fairness though The amount of frostwood out there could be boosted. Then again I have about 7 or 8 spots left over from before the change that have persisted. Of course I only visit them maybe once a month. Not that I am going to go through my 2oK+ stash of blue wood anytime soon.

No Mining Valorite in Fel I generally get may 16 to 20 big piles, with a dig-dig-smelt pattern and 65% success I may get between 30 and 40 ingots. Where I mine in fel its a guard zone so using a gargoyle pickaxe is pointless. But then again I havent been killed by a blackrock elemental in ages. When mining in trammel not only do I get the 8-10 piles of ore out of the ground, some spots I get 2 elementals in as many pickaxe swings. Granted sometimes I do not get an elemental, but most of the time I do. It also may just be another spook of the RNG but when I am using gargoyle pickaxes I tend to get less blackrock elementals in tram too.

At this point I have so much valorite I am using it with bronze+ hammers to make medable suits of armor and filling my agapite/verite bods. Got no use for the musuem rewards, and quite frankly my swampy in exceptional valorite barding looks rather spiffy.

/made my 11 year old a all 70 suit of verite.....because he likes green......
//strip mining, the more I swing, the nakeder I get.

    1. Restrict any NPC from paying over 100gps for any weapon or piece of armor.
    2. The value of raw resources is too high at community collections. Reduce the point value drastically (resources should be used for crafting not trading). Instead give point values to armor and weapons based on number and intensity of mods(be generous). This will give crafters something to do with undesired runic creations AND PvMers a reason to pick up the nice loot from beasties.

The two above reasons are THE two main reasons why folks script resources. Why on earth would anyone script(or buy) 100's of thousands of these rare resources if not for collections and shadow heaters? Bragging rights? Please put mining back the way you found it. Please? I don't want to be a mage/miner [IMG] I want to be a chiv/poison miner... [IMG] like I was before....
