Siege In game Auction FAQ

I have put together this FAQ to answer some of the many questions that have been raised since this idea was sparked and work began on conducting an auction. Please reply any other questions you may have and i will add the answers to this FAQ.

Q. When is the Auction?
A. The auction will occur at 2 PM central US time on Sunday July 9th.

Q. Where is the Auction?
A. The auction house location will NOT be announced prior to the day of the auction. There will be the entry points for the auction site at different banks with-in the land. Transportation personnel will gate you to the auction site from the bank you choose to leave from.

Q. How do I submit Items?
A. You may submit items by contacting me VIA PM or ICQ #16757967. We will meet in game at a quiet bank and I will collect the items personally and secure them in the auction house. Please collect items you wish to be sold at auction into a backpack with a book in the bag listing the items you have for sale and the minimum bid you are willing to accept for each item.

Q. How will I know my items are safe?
A. Your items will go straight into the auction house vault and remain there until auction time. The auction house is being designed to eliminate any possibility of theft of the auctions items during the auction process. It will be tested thoroughly for flaws prior to the auction by Kelmo and company. The Auction will not proceed until the house gets his stamp of approval security-wise.

Q. What items can be sold?
A. You may submit any item for the auction that can be physically taken to the auction house AND sold on a vendor. This can be rares, weapons, armor, single items, items sets, etc etc. One never knows what will sell and won't sell at an auction.

Q. When is the deadline to submit items?
A. You may submit items no later than 4 hours prior to the start of the auction. That is 10 AM central US time. Any item not physically at the auction house by the deadline will be removed from the list and will not be sold.

Q. Once I buy an item how do I pay for it safely?
A. Once you are done bidding on all items you desire and are ready to leave you will join our vendor personnel and be transported to an unknown secure location where you will find the items you have won safely placed on a vendor for you to purchase at your winning bid. The vendor location will be in a secure room inside a house that requires friend access to enter. You will be friended to enter the transaction room and once you have your items in your possession. you will be gated to a destination of your choice from with-in the room if you can not travel on your own. once you have left the building you will be un-friended. And the next buyer will be brought in. There will be only one buyer at a time transported to the vendor house.

Q. Will I be safe at the auction?
A. The auction house will be a private residence and you will have to be accessed to enter. Once inside you will be safe. Getting there safely could be more perilous so please dress lightly as transportation will be provided. That being said, this is Siege and safety is relative. If a raid does occur and you are killed outside we will get you accessed and rez you once inside. AGAIN, dress lightly just in case.

Q. How will you keep all the auction items organized?
A. Each person who submits items will get a lot number. The items in each lot will be sold in succession. Once purchased the items will be taken to the vault and placed into a bag engraved with the correct bidder number. The purchase amount will be listed by bidder number as each item closes in the Lot book the item was part of.

Q. How will the security be handled?
A. The logistics are being ironed out concerning security outside the house.
Regarding inside security, there will be no warnings issued and the following policies will be in effect. There will be "bouncers" among the crowd who have access menus poised on the revoke access screen. The following will cause you to be removed from the auction and you will not be allowed to re-enter.
Anyone who is seen "attacking" another.
Anyone who is seen snooping or stealing from another player.
Anyone who does things to distract or disrupt the auction.

Q. How and when will sellers get paid for the items that are sold?
A. I will do my best to get all items returned that did not sell and all moneys paid to sellers with in 72 hours of the auction's end. This transaction will occur at any quiet bank in the same fashion as item submission.

Q. How will bids be taken during the auction?
A. Ideally, each person who registers as a bidder will be given access to an auto map server to log into. bids will be typed into the map chat so everyone can see the list in the corner of the screen. the only barrier to this system will be the connection ability of people to auto map. An alternative bidding system may take place which will utilize "spotters" who are connected to teamspeak with the auctioneer to inform of spotted bids.

Q. What is a "proxy" bid?
A. Proxy bids are bids placed in advance of the auction by people who will be unable to attend. A person who wants to bid on an item in advance may do so by placing their Maximum bid with me prior to the auction. The mediator will simply bid while an item is displayed until the proxy "runs out of money". A proxy bid will start at the min bid of an item and continue until they are high bidder or the max has been reached.

Q. Can i help with the auction?
A. This auction is going to be quite an undertaking and I can use all the quality help I can get to make things run smoothly. I have need for the following positions to assist with the auction. if you see one you might enjoy doing please contact me.

1. Auctioneer - Athena {me}
2. Vendor manager - Obeta {my mother in law}
3. Transport personnel - Ginsu, Venereka, Fidessa, TBD, TBD, TBD need people with the ability to gate before the auction & 1-2 to help stragglers & departures after the auction has begun.
3. Registrar - TBD, will sit at the door and register bidders
4. Bouncer - Venereka, TBD, TBD of these who will monitor the crowd and ensure everyone's safety.
5. Spotter - Ginsu, Venereka, TBD these will help spot bids in the event the UOAM plan is not feasible.
6. Decorator - Skylark, this person or persons will lend a crafty hand with setting up the auction house for the patrons.
7. Mediator - Dr Phil, this person will be posted on the auction podium and will help filter crowd noise and enter proxy bids.
8. Pre-auction security checks - Kelmo & company

I can transport/register/spot
I'd not claim to be a bouncer willing to "ensure saftey", but I can click as fast as anyone else if we need one.

One question of curiosity..

Why are you having Kelmo proof the house for security?

Personally when I was looking for security of my duel house I was mainly concerned with raiding (theft is not a problem since its not an auction house) so I asked people who have raided houses, and understand the mechanics behind spells used in raiding..

After asking some people I was informed that Natures Fury's could only penetrate 1 wall, something I never knew.. And that explains the double walled duel pit.

So you might want to ask a good thief or a PvP guild for their input on your house design.. Just a tip/comment.. Dont take my post as negative-ness.

Not negative, it is common sense, and is good to bring up. But, I believe UnforgivenUO has that aspect covered. [IMG]

Looking good, I'm impressed by the way you are handling this.

One thing that occurs though; are you not taking a commission on the sales to pay for your time and effort? Or is that something you plan for the future after suitable testing?

I would love to help, but alas, I will be at work during the hours of the auction. I will do all that I can to help before and after. Let me know when you want to test some of the other aspects, such as the inside security system. I would love a shot at yucko! *grins*

Have you considered or thought about how codes might be handled if offered up for auction? Some codes such as ML upgrade and game time do not convert to in game tokens. Just a thought.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Hoffs. It has been years since i did an auction but at least when i was doing them it was in fel so it is a similar envirnment.
We have new technology today we did nto have back then hehehe

No, there will be no commission for this auction. This is a shard event to offer to the community. If it goes well and there is demand for an encore we may ponder on commissions in the future. After all, I am not sure how long teh auction crew we are assembling will work fo free [IMG]

Kelmo,
We have considered codes, pets, houses, services etc. Those are possible in the future if people feel comfortable with the process and with the security of the auction. For this first auction, I feel the item submission needs to be limited to physically available items which can be brought to the auction house and then placed on a vendor.

We may even at some point allow Booth type vendor set ups with in the auction house so people can entertain themselves with a fiar type atmosphere. there have been lots of ideas kicked around out there and I always enjoy feedback and critiques.

Thank you for the tour of the auction house this morning. I was impressed with the detail in which the plans were laid out. I am looking forward to being there this weekend and hope the auction is a big success.

I ask everyone on Siege to please support this effort and make it something we can ALL enjoy. It would be nice to see people take part in the auction and not grief it to hell.
