Too long to build characters or too little for less-than-maxed characters to do?

Agreed siege is dying, please do something. Fixing/Changing ROT would be a great start.

I think that all poll's have stated the same thing

ROT needs some loving

Come now dev's..lets get at it

5. I think at least some feedback from the devs in response to what polls have indicated would be a step in the right direction, at least.

Rot limits need to be dramatically increase. I dunno about everyone else but I would even welcome xfers into Seige but not off Siege. Let people bring one char here but nothing else with them besides their skills. Allow Seige to grow. I'd bet money the population of Seige would double over night with active players if either ROT limits were increased or people could xfer a char over with just their skills.

8. After thinking about it myself, I don't think transfers are a good idea however changing RoT would be huge. We had a post with some proposed specifics early though I can't remember who it was by. I would love to see something like starting ROT at 80.0 and then allowing 5 points of skill to gain a day in 5 minute intervals. Increasing the time between gains to 10 minutes at around 90 or 100 would be fine but I really think 15 minutes between gains is too much, especially for weapon skills when people only have an hour to play a day.

Again, I'm just throwing these numbers out off the top of my head and I would take almost any change in RoT but I don't think it should be abolished either.

I would bring over one naked character, guaranteed. If they would allow it.

Good idea allow transfers with no items but might be hard to enforce the no items rule...fixing rot would be awesome...

rot is not the problem, its the idea that in just minutes you can lose all ur hard earned cash arties, items of value that keeps peeps away. on all the prodo shards every one runs around with arties up the ying yang, feeling god like, on seige u can do it but if u do u run the risk of losing it all, unlike prodo shards u have insurance u lose nothing. thats why people dont come here. i have gm char on legends hard getting to the 120s for sure as a mater of fact i have some in there 115 but none at 120 it takes to long on prodo shards, here on seige at least ur guarnteed a gain within the time allowed for rot. another reason is u only get one char on seige so u have to depend on others join a guild etc , u cant make 7 char like on prodo shards, example i have a gm fletcher, alchmist, tailor, etc to make things for my archer, my ninja, my sami, my tamers i can do it all there by my self. on seige the one char makes it hard for peeps to want to come here and not supply all there own supplies repairs, or have 7 differant charectors to mess with. example i use my tamer mage spellweaver for perless, my ninja for running around fel looking for victums, or my archer necro in doom or hunts in general.depending on whats happening i have a different char for each situation. on seige u have to choose one profession. to sum it up seige is tough,u have to understand treasures come and go. others dont like to pvp.

Been on Siege almost a year. Something needs to be done. The shard is empty and everyone else is hidden. Fix ROT and let more players come here. this is my last stop in UO if Siege doesn't work out I'm gone for good. So are three accounts. I don't want to see this game die.

One arti is enough with the siege bless item.Trust me its fun and we play on a almost equal base and pvp is way better this way.You dont need to farm or spend RL $$ to compete.

Siege is a pvp shard nothing more nothing less if you dont like pvp you dont belong here unless your a crafter to supply pvpers...

You started a good thread with your opener, and you just ruined it with your follow up.

16. You know that is not the case at all. There are all types of people who play on siege and many don't pvp, it's just that all the pvpers get all the hype on the boards. Hell, I haven't pvped hardcore since I've been here and that's been over 8 months. I used to be really into it back in the day but I haven't been hardcore about it since AoS came out. There's all sorts of things for people to do on Siege and you can easily place yourself outside the pvp aspect of it (even without hiding).

17. just allow xfering to siege but not away....

ROT is not the problem. Non consentual PVP is.
Some of the more experienced UO players would like a challenge-myself included.
I like Siege. I like the difficulty in gaining skill, gold, wealth, etc. I understand that life on Siege eventually involves pvping. I accept that. I can accept dying. Others cannot. They do not like pvping especially if there are no consequences to the aggressor.
Sure, this is what Siege is all about. Thats why it's an empty shard.

Out of balanced characters is another problem. This shard is basically holds two kinds of players. Those who have and those who have not.
Who can afford millions for PS on a shard like Siege?

I will be one of the citizens of Siege that will be leaving UO after tonight.
There are better ways of spending my time and money.
Cheers and good night.

Yes, please fix ROT or allow
xfering with no items ...

21. there was a day before trammel that non pvpers played here in an environment without even the thought of item insurance, or hell even bonded pets.

It was a lot more interesting, knowing you had to always watch your back, and yes nowand then there is some [censored] who is LOLUSUK as he pops out of nowhere and kills ya but it was still fun.

ROT and the lack of being able to have support chars is what keeps me from siege plain and simple. Its difficult enough starting out with little skill and no npc training but it works. Just after the initial bit its the fact its gonna take 3 months of waiting on timers to get your skills to where you want that is a killer.

WE SHOULD DEFINATELY DO AWAY WITH ROT. THEN WE SHOULD ALLOW INSURANCE. THEN WE SHOULD DO PASSIVE DETECT.AFTER THAT I WOULD SUGGEST WE MAKE X-SHARDING POSSIBLE WITH ANY ITEMS YOU WISH TO BRING. AFTER THAT ALL WE HAVE TO DO TO "FIX" SIEGE IS SIMPLY RENAME IT ATLANTIC.

Well I have been on siege since almost day one. I am not a pvper... I am horrible at it. I do have a crafter but I do alot of pvm. I have dealt with ROT since there was ROT. The problem is no one wants to put in the time to do it. My very first character on siege is still not completed. Why after 10 years you might ask. Well one typed ruled the world then they nurfed it. I had to start all over almost. Then they introduced new skills and better weapons... had to start again....then they nurfed them.... had to start again...
Wake up folks! This is the game! This is the challange! Siege is not for quiters. Siege is not easy. If you want easy go somewhere else and stop whinning.

Sorry, no disrespect, but thats crap.

I only play to PvP and the only reason I don't play Siege, is because I have played this game for 10 years and I will NEVER build another character. Character build and resource harvesting are not of any interest to me.

PvP is the only reason I still play UO, even though UO PvP is in the toilet compared to previous incarnations, its still the best PvP system out of all of them.

Allow a transfer with no items and I would be their tomorrow.

28. I didn't say anything about roleplayers, I just pointed to the fact that you can easily play siege and be successful (however you want to quantify that in online world) without getting into pvp since I do it. To me Siege gives me the feeling of what uo was like back in the day. That feeling of not being completely safe is really what I think got a lot of us hooked. Like Calibiritto, Siege is my last stop before leaving the game and I think many that come over to Siege feel that way. If you remember back before trammel not everyone engaged in consensual pvp but we had a hell of a time playing anyway. Just because that's what is the main focus of Siege right now, doesn't mean that it would be that way at all if the population doubled.

I feel rather passionate, as much as uo stirs up passion for me, about making some changes here in order to make it easier for people to come check us out. From my post a couple weeks ago there was strong interest in Siege. What we need to shy away from is quick easy fixes that take away the essence of the game. Shard transferring is just too simple and full of holes. Changing RoT, going back to allowing personal strongboxes in homes, maybe even 7*7 second houses in malas (cause we all know how malas is looking) I would support. If people were able to transfer in, bypassing the steps it takes to become established on siege, whether it be skill gain or community interaction I would probably just shut down my account(s) and move on.

I am a role player and I play on Siege.

ROT is a pain.

You do not need to be overly rich to survive on Siege. I am not, and am well equipped.

The PVPers on Siege are no better than the ones Ive met on other shards, they just tend to take UO more seriously. (some of them way to seriously)

There are some nice folks left on Siege, but there is a lot of ego one has wade through to get to the nice folks.

Biggest problem I've seen on Siege, well read the posts by a lot of the Siege "community". Does that answer it? I doubt most of the Siege community could work together for more than 15 minutes before it became a flame war on the boards or a slaughter in game.

"PVP only" I find that laughable, I am a wandering healer on Siege and almost never PVP. I have more fun helping than blasting away at someone...

But I am new to Siege, and no one important at all, what do I know?

I agree RoT needs some adjustment.

I don't agree you need to pvp to be there. I can't pvp, I'm hopeless. I'm a crafter.

But if the thought of pvp is what keeps someone from making a char, I urge them to think again.

You're not going to die and lose all your stuff multiple times per day unless you go looking for it. I die, on average, about once per month.

Armslore on Siege gives a bigger bonus to crafted items, you can get a perfectly viable suit without 'items' My character is elf, she wears a bloodwood suit which gives her 12hpr and resists 70/70/49/69/62. That's straight GM carpenter crafted, no runic kit needed. If she gets killed and it's looted (which often it isn't) It's no big deal, I just make another.

My hubby has a pvm character. He wears 100% lrc, though he lost it in the event Saturday night. He'd had the same kit for a month before that. Quite a lot of people wear GM crafted, or a mix of crafted and looted items and there are vendors selling armour all over the shard.

It's true that I don't want to play the same type of character all the time, so Siege is my second shard. I have a range of characters on Europa too.
But Siege isn't just for pvpers, you don't have to be uber skilled to be here and I find the change of pace is refreshing, restoring my enthusiasm for the game as a whole.

32. You know what kept me from building a char on Siege?

I'm walking through Luna on a brand spanking new character and all of a sudden "someone is attacking you" and with one hit I'm dead. Ok no biggie, I get healed and head back to the bank for a second. As I'm standing there in my new gray robe, "someone different is attac.... ooOoOOooo". I'm a little irritated but not real bad. I go get rezzed again and head back to the bank and low and behold "A third person is attac.... OOoooOOoOoO". I logged out and haven't even thought twice about going back.

Siege players want to liven up their shard they should help out the new players NOT attack them on sight.

OK lemme say this one more time please fix rot for the ppl that want to come here and dont want to come here because of rot and for the rest that cant stand to die and lose a ghost robe stay on your own server...because that post above me is just plain comical...

35. The whole point of my post was lost on you wasn't it?

I don't really care about dying, especially when I have nothing to lose. When people are going to kill a brand new character for absolutely no reason and nothing to gain from it, well I really don't want to take the time and trouble to build a char on a shard with that "caliber" of people on it.

Once again, if Siege players seriously want to liven up their shard HELP the new players to become a challenge, don't just attack them because you can.

Good sir, roleplay be alive and well in yon lands!

I do agree that the time taken to train is frustrating, though.
Some form of accelerated training would certainly help.
Alacrity scrolls did Siege a world of good in their day, as did the Blackrock Motherlode.

I've said time and again that some form of mentoring system would be good for Siege - allow someone with GM or higher skills to take on an 'apprentice', who would gain faster if training in the presence of their mentor.

That would have three advantages -
1. Dependency on other players to train.
2. Quicker training and therefore less frustration.
3. Some possible reward (I favor the non-implemented virtues) for the mentor.

As to transfers - aye, so long as they are one-way, and the immigrant arrives with no more than a newly born citizen of the lands would.

A flood of artifacts would be a disaster. It would not take long before those who lost them started complaining that they had 'paid' to bring them here, and that they should be protected. And that would be the end of Siege.

37. Chaucer, not that I agree with the direction that Nico is taking this thread but you're mistaken on a couple counts. First, and probably the most important is that this is pretty much a thread about changing ROT, which is something most everyone on Siege wants right now, and not about the "character" of the shards.

Secondly, there is a lot of support available for newer players who made the jump to Siege. The guild NEW is amazing has been around forever. They will set you up with a place to train and will give the needed equipment as well as try to ingergrate you into other guilds once your time with them is up. Aside from NEW there are lots of players who will give new players equipment and places to stay, as I have been doing for a while now. The problem is that no one really sticks around and this RoT thing we're getting into is kind of part of it.

Finally, your account of your first encounters with siege made me think back to my first day in uo. I started in glow and boom, I was lightening'ed to death by two reds standing on the face by the inn. I ran around as a ghost for probably an hour, ended up in trinsic fighting a mongbat which I beat but was killed by a snake. I wandered around some more before I came across a player run town by the trinsic mines and a player who friended me to his house and taught me how to play the game. The point I guess of that rant is that so what if it's hard and you die in the beginning? Many of us survived UO when it wasn't so safe and I think we had a hell of a time back then doing it.

I guess you missed his point then...?

You learned quickly why Luna is considered our trash zone... and that you could avoid it completely until your character is good enough to smite the newbies (yes newbies) who killed you.

Every shard has a place it keeps its trash... on most servers, you find that at Yew Moongate... on Siege you find that in Luna.

Welcome to Siege.

41. Midnight Rambler and Black Rain. Thank you both for the valuable information that I was lacking about the Siege shard. If I had known what you both have told me back then I might have actually given Siege a second chance.

On a sidenote. Luna seems to be where most newbs will automatically go to. If that's where your "trash" is perhaps you should, as a shard, clean it up so new players don't get discouraged within minutes of being born, thus helping to rebuild your community in one possible way.

what do I know?
----

Ya know a lot more than ya think ya do. [IMG]

ROT is definately a problem that CAN be solved easily enough if the dev. team gets on it, to help enable Siege to garner a larger customer base there, with Siege as the last stop over EA Mythic often has left to retain customers, before losing their customers entirely out the EA UO door.

Showing Siege on the entire shard list, would also help with merely the *disclaimer* that Siege is all felucca ruleset..let the customers decide be they old new young whatever where they wish to play so long as EA lists it as *felucca ruleset* with explanation..no need to make Siege invisable like some plague or utterly non existant when a simple *disclaimer* advice notation could be there while showing Siege in with ALL their other shards on the list.

And yes...one also has to combat some of the players' attitudes/egos and flame wars or fathom these as well, to grasp or try to grasp the shard as well. Often strong willed old vets will differ and never agree, unfortunately some of them can not simply agree ..to disagree without explosion. THEY have to resolve that themselves, or yes it looks juvenile to others and that too does not help the shard's population either.

Tis a myriad of things some easily fixable some not, some can only be resolved like ROT via EA dev. team being given the time to work on issues in timely manner to retain those UO customers that DO come to Siege as a last resort before leaving their product this game. One would think they would want to work to KEEP and to ADD to Siege so they keep those customers whom would leave .. and that they as customers, one last time try to recapture UO, that one last time on Siege, before they go from UO as EA customers .. for good.

There are I suppose things EAMYTHIC needs to do, for Siege for retaining those customers they may loose whom DO try Siege last..before they exit paying EA for good. And there are I suppose things the customers on Siege need to seriously rethink in their own dilemma of dwindling population that THEY too need to change or rethink or do how their actions or words, both assist adding to the population of Siege, instead of assisting in subtracting the population of existing SP players, regardless of hue or guild tag or alliances, and with those still coming over..to KEEP them !

And then again since it IS their product/game sp ..EA can also merely offer transfers of existing chrs.OFF of Siege to xfer to any shard of their choosing with chr. gp and items intact unless Siege specific items, as their solution to the myriad of issues and or problems OF maintaining Siege. Doubt any one on Siege would really want that xfers OFF Siege, for customers whom have chrs. established or new even, there now, but it can happen that they solve the problems with xfers OFF, if the population continues to dwindle there.

Even if they fix ROT most people will stay hidden. I know my crafter is not going to be unhidden ouside of a guard zone. Of course if there were any actual consequences for being a player killer then people would not need to stay hidden.

There is, unfortunatly, the mindset of "I cannot have fun in the game unless I am killing some poor hapless soul because it makes me feel more powerful" with a lot of the players.

Gm Smith/Tinker/Miner/Hiding/Stealth
GM+ Tailor

All things being the same I would love to drop hiding/stealth and have Item Lore and Carpentry, but with not enough storage space and literally being forced to keep valuables on my char, that is not going to happen.

P.S I got *BLACKROCK* and am still looking for a 120 Blacksmithy scroll, but you wont find me anywhere near the spawn.

P.P.S This is on Siege obviously.

*giggles*

I have 2 crafter chrs. there all done, with soulstones so even more craft skills, and hiding...oddly I find I do MORE hiding IN guard zones than out of them. lol. I have no fear to be visable anywhere out there...but in *some towns* best to be utterly unseen entirely, especially since some seem to have the ability to pk IN town even if ya do have a guards macro going and guards not help at all...so more logical to hide IN town in Guard zones than out..cuz some of THEM never venture out of the GZ either they pks that hang out by guards or house hide more than venture all over..so lots of us crafters feel lots freer AWAY from towns with GZ like *Luna* especially. I usually do not even bother with calling guards in towns...the guards are always on some ale break anyhow. [IMG]

Tis interesting to hide there just to watch em all exterminate each other at times for ye own giggles getting to see them as corpses for a change from the others that kill them... can be highly .. amusing. [IMG] Anyway my crafters feel so much freer to move about all over Siege AWAY from some towns and their gzones. [IMG] NP way way out there..like ya see, IN towns, many a time.

I do have one chr. that is not a crafter there merely a pure roleplaying non aggro stealthin ninja template...some of em forget to even walk around to bump into invisiables TO try to find stealthers even beside em at a bank..I shoulda made her a thief pickpocket ! HAHA

3) kill free shards!

90% of the people that i know that have quit SP/UO is now playing a free shard. what were u guys thinking to allow free shards to last this long? Sometimes i think EA is intentionally trying to ruin uo!

Yeh I have some resentment for those free shards as well.

I was part of a guild that was well respected if not thriving, and seeing no fixes come for Siege in any timely manner via EA, many of my guildmates left to go try one of those shards. It literally left only a puny handful of us left to play Siege alone with our guildtag. When they come back, a year later too much had happened and gone on and folks too had moved on, or made new friends to hang with while the others were gone. Try as one may as one might...humpty dumpty could never be put back together again whole like it had been as a guild with it's place on Siege ..it all vanished nearly still tears at some of our guts that maybe if that free shard not recruited so hard..we mighta still been whole still all together and not destroyed and more importantly alive and still vibrant on Siege like we had been.

They waited and waited also for EA to fix some issues on Siege, or they would not have left, and the free shard pulled em all in there, promises of what EA could not deliver so they left ..can not blame em I suppose..although I would not go..EA owns UO to my thinking not..them other ones. Rather if I am paying to..play EA UO all legal like as a customer, to stay with EA while I still AM a customer .. and use not some one else's UO, even if it is free.

I miss, whom we were together so close the bonds we had had, as a guild on Siege, still to this day. [IMG]

if siege ever really dies, its definatly gonna come back as a zombie and eat the brains of the rest of the shards before finally being captured, tied down, and burned alive and its going to be all your fault devs

Once again, if Siege players seriously want to liven up their shard HELP the new players to become a challenge, don't just attack them because you can.

The vast vast vast majority of us don't. We can't stop people from being jerks though I fear.

To the rest, does non con pvp keep people away of course, but those are not the people the OP was talking about. We are talking about people who have expressed interest in playing the shard, there was a post about it a while back with several pages of people saying they have interest but one thing or another keep them away ROT was the main thing.

Pretty much everyone who plays siege agrees ROT is outdated in this day and age. In game content is more or less 90% geared toward fully developed characters, and of course so is PVP, so for a shard that is heavy pvp and also loaded with all the -high end is the only thing worth killing- content we doubly need people to be able to make characters quicker.

1) FIX ROT!
2) allow transfers to Sp but not off Sp
3) kill free shards!

90% of the people that i know that have quit SP/UO is now playing a free shard. what were u guys thinking to allow free shards to last this long? Sometimes i think EA is intentionally trying to ruin uo!

I agree with 1 & 3 but do you really think #2 is fair I mean those of us who are here worked our skills and even if they fix rot then it should be easier for newcomers to train there skill I just dont think #2 would be good for SP

IMO I think if they allow transfers here we will be flooded with dupes lag... and god knows what else I mean... we could catch something from those people... lol mas disease kills SP

It would open a window for people to find away to bring blessed Items to siege you know EA... god knows what could make its way over here...
