I was thinking about the ability of having single icons around the screen instead of hotbars like on CC.
This feature will give the ability to assign hotkeys, and also all the other things that actually you have on hotbars included the lock feature (to lock the icon in place) and the scale/alpha mode.

The system will include a toggle so you can choose if to use the legacy system or the hotbars system ;)

Also if you are worried about item counters, there will be something else for that. For using items you'll have to use a macro.

We can't have both? I'd hate to lose hotbars completely. Actually, after thinking about it, I really do like the hotbars, my CC screens are always too messy with the icons never lined up and it takes a lot of time to get them looking neat.

I'm a bit OCD with my layout and like nice straight hotbars! However having the ability to place single icons like the CC would be nice for certain things. I agree with Parnoc, can't we have both?

yes, I'm thinking about a toggle like "Legacy Spells" or something like that so everyone can choose the one they like most :)

@Pinco can we expect the new UI for the EC anytime soon?

I can't speak about it, but I think could say something blizzard style like: soon™... Because soon™ it's a relative timespan that could go from 1 day to 100 years or more :D

would it really make that much difference? If I want a single icon seperate I just make a one square hotbar.

Petra beat me to it. But yes - that was my thought exactly. And I have several that way already. Single-tile hot-bar locked so all you see is the one icon. Is it worth more coding/bug potential/bulkiness to redo what we can already do?

I like the hotbars, as already said we can always make a single cell hotbar.

What I would REALLY like would be the ability to have multiple rows AND columns, for example boat control I could have a 3 x 3 block that can be hidden/moved in one click.

REALLY, REALLY looking forward to seeing the new UI :)

basically it will change radically how the buttons work.
Instead of dragging a whole hotbar you will be able to drag only a single icon, there will be no slots for items and you'll have to double click the spells to cast them (or use the hotkey).
The other difference will be the fact that you don't have to create the hotbar -> resize it -> drag the item inside, because you just need to drag the icon wherever you want it (pure CC style).

Since there is people who likes the quick info box rather than dragging stats into the hotbar, I thought that who loves the CC style may like this option too :)

I never cared for stuff at the bottom of my screen. I find it distractive.

Also hotbars can be hidden.... single icons can not. And I happen to like one click activation.

I think I found the middle-way: CTRL + DRAG (or something like that) = create a 1 slot hotbar with what you are dragging inside.

What do you think about it? :)

    That sounds useful
So we still have hot bars as now, but in addition we can also drag an icon (for example) out of a spell book.

So I almost never use teleport & so it does'nt appear in a hot bar but a couple weeks back I was in a situation where I needed it a few times and so created a new (temporary) hot bar just so I could drag the spell icon into it. The CTRL-DRAG would have been easier :)

Still like the idea of a 'block' of icons ;)

I second that. IMHO i think this is just a displaying issue. If I set it to 4x3, the slots 5-8 should wrap to the second row and slots 9-12 wrap to the third row. (If its a vertical hotbar, slots 4-6 wrap to column 2, 7-9 to column 3 and 10-12 to column 4.)

Will the new UI be the new default UI, replacing the old one completely?
Will the new UI be as performance hungry as your UI? (default UI: average of 60 FPS, pincos UI average of 30 FPS (average of 8 FPS when hovering over an item, the bigger the tooltip, the lower the FPS)

The new Pinco's UI, will have something like this, in fact you will be able to move all the hotbars anchored to each other with SHIFT + DRAG and collapse/expand them all with SHIFT + CLICK on the collapse button :p

    yes

my UI was made with what I had, working with the UO team allowed me to have the tools to do things properly without burning resources for workarounds...

I don't often use the EC/SA client but feel like separate spells would be a step back. Or in other words, separate spells wouldn't make me, a CC user, want to switch over and use the SA. The main and only reason why I wouldn't play the SA over the CC is still because I feel the SA has muddy looking graphics, and I prefer the sharp, simple CC graphics. Not sure what a UI can do to improve that, really, but glad the OP is getting an official nod finally, for those who enjoy the SA.

performance is also lacking in the EC. considering EC has graphics common to the turn of the century, it eats up memory like no other game out there. For a new UI to be useful at all, it has to be playable, which means not affecting performance at all. cause its already verging on unplayable for many UOers.

any "extra" that isnt absolutely needed but would affect performance, id say best to scrap it.

I like the Idea but leave the ability to link them together, as of now I have a few single ones around all I did was scroll I down to one and then lock it where I wanted it, but the ability to start with one and scroll up to a larger number say 20 would be SWEET.

hm, really? I thought some said the EC/SA ran better than the CC for PvP, and went faster at times? that makes me curious. I know that the CC seems to draw a lot of CPU attention when idle, at the login screen.

    I did it like this:
CTRL + DRAG on a spell/macro/action will create the icon draggable CC style. This icon can be snapped with the other hotbars and with other icons. It will be draggable with CTRL + DRAG (so it can be used with a single click) and will have all the feature of an hotbar slot, except from the fact that is not an hotbar so you can't enlarge it. In the end, having single icons allows you to create "hotbars" of unlimited number of rows and columns, and with the feature of "mass dragging" you'll be able to do whatever you like :)

That's good news! In this case i have no problem with replacing the old UI completely!

Will all the features of your current UI make it into the new default UI or will we still have to use a custom UI to get it all?
One last question ;): Which icons will be used? The old default, the ones from your UI or maybe some new streamlined icons?

The follow command is not something I can do, because for how simple it may seems, it requires the client to have a path calculator algorithm and must be done inside the client.

About the gift of life: why don't you just use a macro?
cast GoL -> wait for cursor target -> target stored (or default pet X if you are using my UI)

I only have two, with the same name, but oddly when I created a character on test with the same name, it used that UI. It was handy! But could it some how use our character id number, like we each have in the chat?

GoL and GoR auto-target the caster. Thus, in the macro I created from your suggestion I am unable to wait for cursor target because the EC auto-targets the caster.

then change it, right click -> target -> target cursor...
it's also working on target stored, it doesn't requires a macro at all, so what's the problem exactly? o_O

Sadly, this isn't a UI thing - it is just the way that UO was designed and it would take a major rework of both client and server code to accomplish the change.

I have many characters with the same name, so I originally kept separate files named (Character name - occupation) and renamed them to the character name before logging that character in to keep them separate. I finally got tired of that and created a master desktop/hot-bar/macro setup that works for all templates. It's rather tricky to get used to as I move skills around with soulstones - but it does work great once you are used to it.
