Is the SA client going to be a top down 2D view like 2D and KR or is it going to be more like a 3d world like world of warcraft?
The SA client is an improvement on the KR client, and thus still keeps the UO 2.5D look and feel – featuring new terrain, particle effects, animations, and an enhanced UI
The Deal with the Vorpal Blade? I thought it was supposed to make a Vortex Hole that sends us to a random location...
My fault again! This and the other items will be enabled in a future Live publish.
Why is HLD available on glasses but HLA isn't?
This would need to be investigated further. It’s possible that the Design team during Mondain’s Legacy didn’t feel a need to include the Hit Lower Attack item property on glasses.
Will there be new housing tilesets in Stygian Abyss?
We will have additional tile sets added to the current ones.
I saw that pressing CTRL on a KR client makes player stops, and there's nothing to avoid this. I used to put many combinated keys macroes on ctrl.. This will change on SA client? Thanks.
The idea behind the control key in the KR client was to allow players to face in a direction without running. This was because it was much harder in KR to face in a direction by single clicking. We will be removing this key assignment completely for SA since so many players use the control key for macros.
Claims as own Question submitted....
Outstanding! loved that hole, it sent folks all over and would be awsome to see again...
Just a big thanks....
It didn't dawn on me when I posted this to copy and paste the FoF instead of just the link, hehe.
This is great news. Supreem, will you be providing another option for making a character turn so that, for example, it's easier to use "open door" macros? Or will you be eliminating the requirement that you have to be facing the door you want to open with an "open door" macro?
Not a bad solution for opening doors, but we would still have the issue of trying to step up to a podium and face the group in front of you.
It's actually really easy to face doors in the new client without using the control key. You just run into the door and you will come to a stop facing it.
What he said...... or you could just use 2d..... *grins*...
But I'm hoping speaking is fixed in SA to be like it is..... I don't want to relearn speaking/partychat/guildchat.........
Well, since the User Interfaces will still be available for the SA client, using BBE UI- I just put party chat and alliance chat on separate tabs from system messages in the KR client. VERY nice chat feature, and not really anything to learn since it is always open on a character, and you can drag it anywhere to any size.
I don't get it. Why would HLD being available on glasses dictate that HLA should also be available on glasses?
Seriously, how many times does this need to be answered?
Seriously, how many times does this need to be answered?
You'd be surprised.
It would be nice if they released the 9th anniversary tilesets to everyone first...
NO...... I've tried talking in KR..... can't do it..... first you have to remember some silly crap about a spacebar or something stupid before you can talk... and I've yet to be able to figure out how the heck to talk in party or guild chat let alone alliance chat.... Can't tell what the heck is going on .... and NO idea how to work the stupid talking.... what was wrong with just typing????? or / , | , or \ ?...... didn't they work just fine????? Why did they go and change that???
You can set KR to work just like 2d in terms of pressing Enter or not to talk. For the channels, just hit /x (where x = the first word of the channel you wish to enter (/g for guild, /s for say (normal speech), /p for party, etc).
And honestly, the only argument you have about the chat system is "It's what I'm used to", in which case, a short amount of time using ANY chat system be it in UO or any other game and you'll get used to it as well. All of a sudden, pressing Enter to talk becomes second nature.
As for why the change for channel choices, its fits the current MMOG chat standard so that if someone has played other MMOGs but not UO, they would have a passing knowledge on how to use the chat system right off the bat (basically your own argument in the other direction).
Just by looking at those new screenshots of SA client, I can tell I'm sold. It looks more light and cheerful, much better than KR's dark surroundings overall. And rest is the interface control.
That's a user experience input.
i actually like the crtl button not letting you move. it does need to be assignable tho..
for me if im hidding and i dont want to accidently move by clicking around i just hold the button down.
they did a good job with this one, just put it on a way too popular key
i hate KR and i'll sell off my accts b4 i play that ugly garbage!
25% of uo'rs tops likes the KR 'look' and interface.
maybe they really dont care about keeping uo alive afterall.
no 2d means no me ...and i know 3 ppl out of 100s that will stay in uo if all that is left is that ugly pastel blurry pitiful crap with a crap interface.
KR screenshots. KR interface. nothing about 2d.
SA will be an upgrade to KR?!?
ok go ahead and kill off 2d's clean crisp sharp look and 'ease of play' interface.
do that and UO will die off just as so many have predicted.
i really never thought i would see this happen.
maybe i am imagining it, but all this time they swore SA would support 2d as well as KR. this FoF seems to say that KR will be all that is left. and they have said repeatedly that 2d would remain until at least 75% of all uo'rs played the KR version over 2d. go find me more than a small handful of ppl who like the way KR looks.
the best thing about uo is its community. what community will there be if all that we have left to play is KR?
if this is the case, then almost every single person i know on my shard will quit for good this time.
Those new screenshots look awesome!
I'd love to see more of the UI, and maybe a shot or 2 of some places we all recognize, so we can sortof compare..
Kensai, the 2D client will be fully supported by the SA expansion, and the SA client will completely replace the KR client - there will be no more KR.
Keep in mind that the SA client is not the same thing as the SA expansion.
Well first off....... The argument is why change something that's been working fine for 10 years? What was the purpose? To confuse?
And as for setting things... I DID! They still do NOT work..... Try as I might setting things to Legacy certainly fixes some of the SICKLY art.... though my paperdoll is still grossly hideous and it sickens me to see my character like that... it does NOT seem to fix other things..... and I've been through the whole options menu in KR and it's irritational at best.... .... Besides... they will NEVER get me to switch to SA so long as I can not save my journals as I do now with UOJournal Converter. I insist on saving them...
When my character no longer looks like hell and I can safely save my journals, then and only then will I consider switching my client to SA permanently.
In the meantime... I'll remain in 2d, where things function as they should...
Honestly if I wanted to bother learning to play all over again I'd be playing something else. But I DON'T want to learn a whole new way to play... after 9 or 10 years yes, I've become set in my ways. Loyalty should count for something...
I had tried often to get the "Chat" system in KR to work... but I could never accept party, never alliance or guild chat at all... it was way more frustrating than it was worth.
Re KR chat, for me, it's just a matter of first pressing enter, then using the guild/party/alliance chat systems in the usual way.
The only real difference is that unlike the 2D client, where eg. pressing shift + \ will change the chat line to blue, KR simply shows you the | symbol (pipe) at the start of whatever it is you're typing. But when you press enter, it'll correctly send your message (without the prefixed symbol) to alliance chat. It's solely a cosmetic difference.
May or may not have something to do with the "legacy controls" thing I may or may not have enabled. Not even sure if it exists in KR these days.
My biggest beef with the KR chat system is that I could never find a font/color/size/etc... that was readable overheard. I am sure there is something out there that helps that but, like others, I am less interested in having to dig through hundreds of customized UI's to find something that makes what should work for me 'out of the box'.
Also, and again I gave up looking so it might be something simple that I missed, but is there actually a way to make your font color specific to you? It looks like if you change the color it changes everyone's overhead color instead of just your own. Each of my characters uses a different color scheme (font, clothes, gear, etc...) and, while its not a 'game killer' it is something that works great in perfectly in Legacy and not so much in KR. Not sure about SA of course. We will see.
ok well the way they worded it freaked me out. sorry to go off. maybe i should get more sleep. i had hoped i was mistaken. i know some like the KR look. the shots look ok but still looks like KR to me.
ima shut up now.
KR does not have a setting to change YOUR OWN overhead chat (or emote colors, etc) to another color other than yellow so that others can see. This should be corrected in SA.
Thank goodness the KR default emote isn't the same color as 2D's brown emote color. No one can read 2D's default brown on the journal.
Well I've tried every font/color I could, and it's just something about the overhead text that isn't right, I think it might be anti-aliasing because it always seems not crisp to me. I often resort to just looking in my chat window. I'd like to see this part fixed myself.
What I hate is that the text doesn't overlap with the other people's text like 2D. I'd like this fixed for sure!
I see that the SA Beta sign up is now on a secure site!!!!!
Just got reminded of it when I read some of the posts.
KR detects which actual ctrl key you are pressing when you assign a keystroke ie it differentiates between "Left ctrl" and "Right ctrl".
Is there a way to allow users to assign keystrokes to "Either ctrl" ? ie, say assign a macro to just "ctrl + h"
Same with alt and shift.
If this is already possible, can someone let me know how to do it? If not, can this feature be added?
