I started mining this week and have found tons of small blackrock. Some in my pack and alot on the ground. Is there a use for these?

    Thanks

  2. it can be used to get a recipe for 'Blackrock Stew' which is the only thing Bane Dragons eat. you will need to work up the reputation with the ophidians, by killing the bane, to get the quest for the stew. people who use bane dragons will buy the Stew in order to make their dragons bond.

it had previous uses, but i believe they are no longer functioning.

I thought you were a champion of UO Guide?

As Anna noted, most of the details on UO Guide, pertaining to Blackrock, are from 2008, and outdated. However, in addition to what Anna included, there is a use for Blackrock against Dark Wisps, which can be utilized best at the Primeval Lich Spawn. By having a piece of blackrock in your backpack, you bypass the Dark Wisp shield ability, which is really nice for a withering necro.

By coincidence, I was attempting to summon a Blue Wisp just today, and was successful.
First time, as I wasn't very high in Magery skill during the past events, and gave up since then. I've been meaning to investigate this since I've gotten a power scroll and moved my skill up to 115, finally did some work on it today.

    About 33% correct....

    1. It's used to MAKE blackrock stew, not just for the quest itself. If you have 5000 Positive loyalty to the Ophidians/Meer, you can go to the Ophid keep in T2A desert and get the quest to get the recipe. You'll also need to have the Bowl of Rotworm Stew recipe from the underworld (one of the goblin quests).

Once you have the recipe, a cook can use it to turn small pieces of blackrock and bowls of Rotworm Stew into Blackrock Stew.

    2. Having a small piece of blackrock on you allows you to attack (at least melee - possibly ranged weapon attacks as well; not tried magic) THROUGH the force fields that Dark Wisps project. As such, having a piece on you is vital for quick completion of the faery mini-spawn in the Abyss.

They really need to turn on the decay for small blackrock (I know they didn't put it in because of the initial "easter egg hunt" event for them, but now it's needed) and secondly need to lower the chance of mining them by about half.

It's that or I'm going to end up accidentally blowing up Cove one of these days.

I would be curious to know this as well. I'm hoping that you are back on LS.

Or, you could just pick them all up, give them to your cook (only takes cooking in the 30s to start making stew), and make money selling the stew.

I ran through my stores of small blackrock making a dozen stews at low-level cooking. If I was actively using my BD I'm be needing a lot more.

Well, they make the progression Much better(tried it for the first time tonite), completion depends on if kids are home and come in and take things over right at the end with the renowned.
Start doing what They do, to make it Really quicker.

maybe i'll bring ALL the red gargoyles in that west area 'near' next time, just in case

Quite a while back yes, but both of those effects have been turned off, so may have been due to something using the blackrock (Shadowlords).

The whole Blackrock = Armageddon thing I always thought to be a red herring (as I never was used for it in the main series), and the infection seemed to be due to Shadowlord influence.

    Tssk tssk tssk...

I suggest you all find a way to get rid of it where noone else has a chance to find it again !

The blackrock gem is what was used to cast armageddon, and the spell most people think to be armageddon is in fact just a simple retribution weave.

You should all know armageddon destroys everything, why do I even have to clarify this point over and over ? Magic changes, it evolves... those words were right when the avatar used them (with the blackgem, not silly blacktarock), but last time the spell was casted, in the summer of 1999 in your earth years ; the words were very much more complex and so was the situation...

So you have summoned a blue wisp ? Does it talk ?

    Partly right...

The infection IS turned off, but casting of armageddon (our current form of it) is still active. I know, I tried to use it to harm the blackrock golems, (just a thought) an it blew up and hit me for 65000 dmg :) was fun, but i wont be doing it again anythign soon lol

kal vas an mani in corp hur tym
with the piece of blackrock at your feet, might have to say the words a few times, but it blew me up, as of day one of the blackrock golems spawning on Magincia...

    Regards!

Well in the old days when you had a spot for frostwood it was camped 24/7 by scripters. Valorite was always easy to get. Now Frostwood is very rare and bloodwood is about as rare. I can go days without finding either. You would think that finding it would give you the ability to make something really usefull. I dont see it. Other than library quest they dont seem to have much use compared to the rarity.

Valorite and verite is hard to find. Again you would think they would give you something uber when you made something from them. But I guess you need them to get the best BOD rewards. I think I have gotten 250 ingots of valorite compared to 180k of iron ore.

But I am not chasing anything this time around and the iron ore is what I really need for what I do.

Yes, it talks. Very similar to the Ultima experience.

I received a message that I no longer heard the voices that the initial casting caused, that the world somehow had changed, and that something was "wrong". So I assume you had to cast it that first time for the voices, then this had a chance of happening. The Wisp (which is sky blue in color, very light) showed up at the next successful casting after that, so there may be a 3 step series to go through.

Last evening, when I got back to casting the Armageddon spell, I wasn't able to summon the Wisp. I had summoned it twice in a row earlier, so I assumed that once you got it you would always be able to summon it.

I had lost "Glorious Lord" title in a few deaths while casting this, and that might be why the Wisp stopped appearing. But it's hard to say.

  20. Trebr Drab

    Trebr Drab Guest

Actually, I had summoned it 3 times in a row. The first time I was on my roof, and it appeared in the lowest floor. So I missed most of the talk. Then I summoned it the next time, and I noticed that it remembered my name when I gave it. So then I made a book written by my character, made it "dense" (29 pages out of 40), sealed it, and summoned the Wisp that 3rd time in succession. It didn't take the book, but it did remember my name.

Also, the explosion no longer blows you back. It still scatters body parts if you die (even into walls), but you don't move.

The recipe scroll is a fairly easy quest.

Once an SA-enabled cook uses the recipe, it requires some steaks gained from carving on dead rotworms (the first thing you run into hading through the secret door in the Underworld entrance). The base skill to make appears to 0 cooking skill, and the chance of success is (I think) your cooking skill as a percentage.

Blackrock Stew is a bit more difficult, needing about 30 skill to make, and advancing (I think) like most other crafted items. Its recipe's quest requires Terethan Avenger legs (but not using the recipe itself), but you don't have to do the quest WITH the cook (imagine how hard it would be to get +5000 ophidian loyalty on most crafters, since you can't cast area effects and summons in the invaded towns).

Yes, you lay a piece of blackrock on the ground and speak the Armageddon spell words of power:
Vas Kal An Mani In Corp Hur Tym
And you "feel uncomfortable" or something like that, but nothing happens, or it explodes. If it does, and if it does enough damage to you, you die and instead of a corpse, there's various body parts laying around with a backpack that holds your items and acts like a corpse.
If you are near walls or obstacles, the body parts can be blown into them, in which case you can't pick them up. They are not named, just "a right arm", "a head", etc.
And sometimes a special blue wisp shows up and speaks to you. Simple instructions, but no one has come up with the answer that I know of.

It seems plainly obvious to me... but as a companion I am forbidden to hand you the answer. You knowful well that the part that intestest me is the true summoning ; not those blackrock illusions that take such a toll on your karma.

I will however agree to meet you if you wish to review some of this. I am very interested to see this feat done.

Well, as I said, I can't seem to pull the summons now. And I think it's because I died a few times and lost fame, losing my Glorious Lord status. It'll take me a little while to get it back because a) I'm not a powergamer and I don't have hardly any artifacts, but more importantly b) I'm getting some nasty lag right now. Internet connection and ice. And I went down a good bit because I wanted to be sure that there was some change, and not just chance. Plus, I realized that I wasn't getting a message to the effect that "something is wrong" anymore.

Not much to see, though. The explosion, maybe a little blood and guts, the wisp says what it says which has been well documented.

Maybe you simply don't believe me though, that I cast it now. *shrugs*
I do plan to keep working on this, now that I know I can do it. So if I come up with anything, I'll post it.

And if you decide to share what's obvious to you, I'm just a PM away. :)

I don't think it matters anymore. You heard Cal's comments on events in the mini-video.

    Edit to add:
You can see the overall lack of interest in this thread. The kind of player who likes this sort of actual interesting game play has mostly left UO.
The golden age is dead. Long live the age of items.

I wouldn't bet on that... and besides, what did they say exept that they would like to make events less like hack and slash and more "into the story" ?

    Or did I miss something...

    Quoting Cal:
"We don't need to have these long, elaborate story arcs. We need things that are engaging, and I'll just call bite sized. Engage a player, get'cha in, get'cha out."

That doesn't sound like they want to continue an elaborate story arc involving summoning a Wisp and figuring out what exactly is a dense item of knowledge to trade with some being from another dimension.

I would guess that perhaps this was implemented by Draconi because he loved U6 so much... and it might never come to mean something...

And when you look at what he wanted to do versus what he was allowed to do (he made it obvious by his interest in a classic shard) it sure isn't encouraging.

However, sooner or later, they will have to make the story whole again... or be invaded by those nightmares like the others... in the same video Messana also said that she was looking to make the events less hack and slash, and let the players fill in the blanks... more story oriented she said.

So yes Cal has a message that was aimed at the people who work and have not much time ; it's a clearly PR message... while Messana's comment was more aimed at people like us, who are aware of the real implications of this "game" which was built by a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

Which exactly is what you are on right now... so I would not hang the rag yet, not just yet. I think you are doing the right thing by persevering, it alone does not often lead to success, but you also communicate and implicate yourself. This rarely goes unnoticed...

I understand your frustration and it is shared ; but I will ask you this avatar :

Who is the biggest loser in the story ; those who make empty promises or you that spend hours having fun with your imagination going wild, envisioning greatness and true glory of resolving a genuine mystery ?

I know this about life... and UO isn't going to be any different, you cannot extinguish the mystery out of something that lives. As powerful men could never extinguish the tought that woman could one day have the same benefits in society than men... or make the braveheart the unforgiven one.

It might look like they succeeded after all, that any true significance was slowly removed from this world... but in truth it is all the contrary, every effort to strangle the truth will be met by violent opposition.

If not by the guardian whom gloats over his power, by the timelord and his personal vendetta... you shall see.

hehe it's not even true that simple blackrock is used to cast armageddon... in the single player ultima it was and always has been a blackrock gem.

I know I held it once in the day when people actually cared about the older games.

It's funny that UO guide, it's as if noone even took the time to really complete it ; that shows how far the community has been repressed.
