    Hellos out there! ;)

So has anyone ever thought about playing Siege Perilous? Not only is Siege Perilous the best shard in my mind, it should be in your mind too!

The dream of owning a castle is not that farfetched! A castle is too big for you? Well... There are spots for keeps and 18x18's throughout the lands of Sosaria. Siege is a place where I call home. There is a great community on the Siege boards as well as on the game. Come on over to the Siege Forum and take a read!

If you are one that likes to fight/PvP, we have a guy named Righty who is always looking for a fight! Heck! We even have a pirate guild, Arrr. By the way, that is not me saying "arrr", that is their guild abbreviation, hehe. You never know, they might even share their booty with you... If PvM/PvP/factions is what you enjoy, then you will love the guild I4NI. They do it all! All of the above and they have a house it seems in all the major spots of Sosaria. If a long running guild is your taste, you can alway wonder over to GIL, they have been on Siege for what seems forever! But... Before all that jazz, you should think about the guild NEW2, formally NEW. NEW2 helps the people that are new to Siege. You get 30 days to be in NEW2 to learn about the shard, meet with the community, get to know your play style and see which of the other guilds you would like to be apart of. Shoot... Maybe you will love Siege so much, you will even bring your frineds over and start your own guild!

Why play it so safe with all that insurance jazz? Come take a little adventure and dare to lose an item or two, maybe even all... :D Crafters can always stay busy with their wares to sell or trade to the mass. Why be another toon in the crowd? Make a name for yourself here! There is alway something good to talk about in General Chat. Did I mention no one spams anything on General Chat here? Heck... You might even hear me talk about those stupid Pixies! They are so stupid are they not? They are always attacking me for no apparent reason at all! Stupid Pixies... Like I always say, "The only good Pixie is a dead Pixie".

Come on over and join me under the rainbow on Siege Perilous! Come play on Siege, come play with me!

    :mylittlepony: Thanks!

    P.S.
It is totally okay if the only reason you come play on Siege is to hang out with me! Haha!

You know, your advertisement may be more effective if it wasn't so abrasive on the eyes. Just a tip.

Heh.... I created a character on Seige once (a miner). Lasted less than an hour before getting PK'd then rez-killed in Brit. Logged off as a ghost and never went back.

I too created a crafter. Got killed twice in two years. The first was an idiot who one hit killed me in Luna when it was obvious a was a total noob. The second time the guy ressed me and didnt take any of my stuff, was very friendly in fact. Dont let a singular bad experience put you off. Its generally a lot more civilised than a standard shard. Most people (but not all) tend to give crafters the benefit of the doubt.

Dying will always be a risk on Siege. For many, that risk is one of the reasons they play Siege.
The worse thing with dying and get looted is, you have to get new armor, weapon, tools. If you make your own insurance, it won't be so bad.
    1. Don't leave town with something you can't affort losing.
    2. If out garthering resources or killing monsters for loot, visite your bank or house, when you reach the limit for what you can accept losing to a PK.
    3. Be sure you have a bag with a new suit, weapon, tools ready if you should get looted. You will feel much better as soom you are redressed in your backup gear
    4. If a new char, ask nicely in the chat if you can keep some stuff as you are new.

Also as a crafter, it can be nice to get cleaned the backpack for junk sometimes.

An other reason for crafters to join Siege is, people on Siege need your service. You may not sell suits that cost several mills as most can't affort losing a suit like that but there will always be someone needing a new suit they can affort losing.
For PvM'er, you can sell magic stuff from Shame, even when it can't be blessed or repaired as we don't have item insurance, most may risk to lose it before it break anyway it may be a cheap alternative to imbued suits.

Siege is different, and yes it's not for all. But if want a little more risk in your game, you should try Siege.

I started two Crafters on Seige. The reasons I left were because the npcs won't buy anything to let you build up starting gold, there is little to hunt for gold, and those dang Dark Whisps or whatever they are called keep killing you from behind as your casting spells at a monster and backing off to keep out of melee range. Then of course, the Dark Whisp hangs near the body so you can't get back to it and you lose what you gathered. The tradeoff on time vs progress was lousy.

Only got pked twice. Proved to be a rare thing, unlike Fel of ten years back.

they need to allow you to place a house on seige in addition to having one on a prodo shard. even a 7.7 would be a great help. amazing how fast your bank box fills up with only 1 account. forget about playing a crafter under that scenario.

Yes, there are some of those reds out there that can be quite nasty at times... But if anyone does decide to start on Siege, ask in General Chat for any leader of NEW2. We will take you under our wing for 30 days to guide you through your first 30 days of Siege. Read about the NEW2 rules, agree to the rules we set for the NEW2 members, and show your "NEW2" tag and 75% of the reds will leave you be. The other 24% will still kill you, but res you and give you your stuff back. And there is that 1%... They can be mean to new players on Siege, but they only do so because it is part of their nature/RP.

I know starting on a new shard can be quite painful, but the people here are great! When I first started on Siege, I did not know about NEW/NEW2, but I made it through! I do not craft stuff, PvP, do factions, or even do much PvM... All I am is a girl that cast some spells every once in a while. If I can make it on Siege, anyone should be able too.

And yes Tanivar, those Dark Wisps get pretty nasty with their spells... But that is part of the fun! It is those stupid Pixies you should worry about... They are so annoying... :(

    :mylittlepony:Thanks!

Yep, Dark Wisps are the worse newbie killers on Siege and yes, they will camp your corpes and res kill you :)

What crafting skills was you training?
Players will buy bolt of clothes, leather, ingots, gems, regs, arrows.
The BoD system will get a young tailor or smith money for training.
The heartwood crafting quests will help some of the other skills
Players also buy furnitures, tools and I think some other low skills crafted items.
Magery is nice for EV's to kill the wisps and for gating.

If you try again, join NEW, so you won't be alone but can call help vs the wisps.

While I could agree with a 7x7 as second house, I would like to see some need for refresh like in old days as far to many quit Siege again. They would just leave their house there,
I rather saw Devs use some of the unused npc houses and rent out a bed and a secure or two for homeless Siege players. Also all the Inns around the land could rent out a bed and a secure, same with some of the old guard forts.

When I started my crafter on Siege I had 2 sturdy shovels that I found in a 'free' bag on someone's vendor. I moved into Delucia Inn.
I sheared sheep to do tailor bods and mined to do smith bods. This way I gained skill - up to 70 they will only give you bods that further your skill. I also gained a small stake of gold - you remember you get gold for filling bods?

I packed up all of my belongings on Siege into the banks of my 2 characters a few months after AoS and dropped my house. The population took such a noticeable dive at that time it was like a single player game so I started over from scratch on Pacific. As someone who played Siege in it's heyday I can't imagine going back there. Nothing I've seen since I left has shown any sign of improvement since most mentions of Siege are begging for more people or more attention from EA. Even Pacific's population has dropped considerably in the past couple years and if that former bastion of UO population has declined so much I can't imagine SP is much better off than it has been for so long.

Except for the 2 last weeks, with hot weather, Siege are getting more players and getting old players back. It's true, AoS was one of the thing that killed Siege but now, with imbuing, reforging, new shame loot, it's going much better as players again can get a useful suit to a fair price.
It take time for players to see the changes.

I'm seriously into the Crafting corner of this Sandbox we play in. The two have something like Smithing, Tailoring, Tinker, Carpenter, Imbueing, Inscription, and Alchemy along with Mining & Logging to get resources. Both have magery with one having eval & meditation for hunting to get hides & feathers. Neither would last 10 seconds vs a Pker.

I get BODs for a friend who is into doing them but other than doing cloth bods to turn in for better ones, I don't mess with them.

Unless some changes are made to Siege to eliminate those three major hassles and make it better for new arrivals, I doubt I'll wander back. I play a game to have fun, not get aggravated.

When I started on Siege, I got most of my gold for placing my five full size custom houses (I'm down to three now) by using a pair of bouras I tamed in Ter Mur while wearing starter clothes. I threw one pair in the stable to bond for a week and used another unbonded pair to kill stuff just to get things rolling. My first Siege tamer also killed lots of mongbats and birds, picked up a lot of regs, and gathered a ton of leather and some cotton while she worked on taming. (Kelmo also helped me out with a check for a million gold when I wanted to place a house in Ter Mur.)

While you're on the first leg of the quest to be able to buy carpet squares, you get extra wool from the sheep in Yew, so that helps if you need cloth for tailoring or bandages.

If you're trying to avoid deep forest areas because of the dark wisps, there are some mostly safe and accessible areas for mining and lumberjacking, with the biggest risk being a heart attack at the sign of a red running around in a place where you don't expect them: Umbra and the Royal City in Ter Mur. Zento, Minoc, and Skara Brae are other good places for guard zone lumberjacking. If you like Serpent's Hold, you can get to it easily via a moongate from the counselor's guild hall in Britain.

There are also some players who set up bazaar vendors in Magincia to buy various types of resources from other players. And if you're the type that can tolerate looting stuff from monster corpses and dragging it home with you, you need 0 imbuing skill to unravel the vast majority of it to get magical residue that you can use yourself to train imbuing or to sell to other players. Without the daily cap on skill gains, RoT makes it a lot faster (and definitely cheaper) to train crafting skills than elsewhere and can make training taming much less of a grind than elsewhere. (It's not so wonderful for training melee skills, however, even if you're able to use the advanced training dummies and the daily cap on stat gains is a pain.)

There are a good number of public houses that have crystal and corrupted crystal portals for getting around and quite a few of them are connected via teleporter tiles to other public houses. There are many players on Siege who will also make room in their houses for newcomers to camp out while they figure out if Siege is the place for them, so not having a house while you're still feeling things out doesn't have to be a show-stopper if you're a considerate, well-mannered player who doesn't mind starting out small and building a place and reputation from scratch on Siege.

Unlike the triple costs to buy items from NPCs on Siege, the cost to place a classic house on Siege is generally just double the cost as on other shards. The cost for building a custom house on Siege is the same as it is on any other shard. I have a three-story custom house with basically the same design on Siege, Atlantic, and Lake Austin and it is worth 647,000 on Siege, 649,500 on Atlantic, and 578,500 on Lake Austin. (I think the LA house is a 16x16 and the other two are 18x18.)

Classic House Costs - Siege vs. Regular Shards
    70,000 / 35,000 Wooden House
73,500 / 36,500-36,750 Stone and Plaster House, Field Stone House, Small Brick House, Wood and Plaster House, Thatched-Roof Cottage
    100,500 / 50,250 Small Stone Workshop
    104,500 / 52,250 Small Marble Workshop
    146,500 / 73,250 Small Stone Tower
    152.500 / 76,250 Sandstone House With Patio
    162,500 / 81,250 Two-Story Log Cabin
    227,000 / 113,500 Two-Story Villa
    258,000 / 129,000 Large House With Patio
    262,500 / 131,250 Brick House
    320,500 / 160,250 Marble House with Patio
    323,500 / 161,750 Two-Story Stone and Plaster House
    325,000 / 162,500 Two-Story Wood and Plaster House
    732,500 / 366,250 Tower
    1,125,000 / 562,500 Small Stone Keep
    1,730,000 / 865,000 Castle

Two Story Custom House Foundations (These are example sizes only, I left out all the other sizes because there are too many.)
    33,000 / 33,000 7x7
    42,000 / 42.000 8x8
    52,000 / 52,000 9x9
    63,000 / 63,000 10x10
    75,000 / 75,000 11x11
    88,000 / 88,000 12x12
    102,000 / 102,000 13x13

Three Story Custom House Foundations (Example sizes only, many left out.)
    77,000 / 77,000 9x14
    90,500 / 90,500 10x15
    105,000 / 105,000 11x16
    120,500 / 120,500 12x17
    137,000 / 137,000 13x18
    147,000 / 147,000 14x18
    157,000 / 157,000 15x18
    167,000 / 167,000 16x18
    177,000 / 177,000 17x18
    187,000 / 187,000 18x18

The other great thing about Siege is that the people who play there are very generous with advice and other help for newcomers. Ask for help in general chat or on the forum and you're bound to get an almost immediate response from several folks. I think Siege has, by far, the busiest and friendliest shard forum on all of Stratics.

I do not play siege for one reason and one reason only.. It's not the skill gain issues, or PK's, or anything like that..

It's that I'm limited to one character. Simply put, unless I purchased tokens for soulstones from the UO shop (Or somehow managed to acquire A LOT of the expendable ones), one character is just to limiting for me. I like my fighters to be fighters, my mages to be mages, and my crafters to be crafters. Being forced to mix these aspects because of an artificial one-character limit is not something I wish to do.

If they took away that restriction, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

    It's not that...

I have a home... It's GL's. That's where my 8 homes are... that's where all my friends are... that's where my community is. I have 50+ characters there. I work skills all the time I see little point to working stuff up on shards I don't have time to play. I have such little time to spend on GL's as it is. Wasting time on another shard seems pointless.

Edit: Oh and I forgot I already have a Castle, a keep and 5 or so 18x18's.

Playing a thief and don't see people..? People don't hang around at banks and they go into different banks everyday. So definitely not surprised.

I played Siege 6 years ago.. I was there for 2-3 years and loved every mintue of it. I recently came back to UO.. I didn't have a Siege account anymore as I sold everything off when I quit 6 years ago. I only came back once in that brief period and I played on Great Lakes with some old friends.. So when I came back last month, I went on GL for 3 days, then quit and went to Siege with nothing. Within a month, I have everything I could need including 20 soulstones. All this from just general farming, Idocs, and PvP. You can kill someone and sell them their stuff back if you want.

Sometimes Siege is slow, but I still enjoy it. Hell, I have 4 suits setup that trump my suits on Great lakes.. All 70s, 100% LRC, Max LMC/DCI/MR.. You can't beat using this amazing shame loot. Its so plentiful, you can run around in anything you want.. An if you die, theres more to get.

Nice sig Kelmo. Pardon my ignorance but what does the glove with the bolts means on the stamp. I see it in almost all other sigs?

The symbol for the Mugen shard uses the same fist holding lightning bolts, except that its background is blue and there's an infinity symbol above the fist and bolts. (I think one of the definitions of "mugen" in Japanese is "infinity." I think its other meanings are "dream" and "fantasy.")

I should also note there is player vendor stalls in new mag where you can buy and sell some things. But imo it is actually fairly easy as a new player to make money on Siege. Maybe not as easy as it is on production shards but then again you donlt need as much gold to get by on Siege as would on a regular shard.

    Hey Druido2...

Thanks for the nice comments! :) I use to play Napa Valley... I started playing UO after watching my brother play UO. I started around 2004, and after my brother and his friends quit, I moved onto Sonoma, and Atlantic. Both just seemed like the same thing with lots more people... I somehow stumbled onto Siege and played there between 2006 and 2008. When I finally quit, due to graduating a year early from High School and trying to get my degree in accounting in a timely manner, I decided to play again. The only thought I had was Siege Perilous. Even though I had a blast playing with my brother and his friends on Napa, there was something about Siege that was special.

Since I been back playing UO for about 3 month now? I have enjoyed many more aspects that makes Siege special. I do not wish to disturb anyone from their daily routine on other shards. I just want people to know that Siege is not a place to fear, and that a shard does exist that is different from the other shards. ;)

    :mylittlepony:Thanks!

I still have my SP toon. Unfortunately, my house fell during my "Vacation" an i don't really care to play without anywhere to live.

It was just a small house too...They really need to change those 1 house per account rules

Just maxing any size house have maximum 18x18 storage would help if they're worried about crowding. That would make the huge houses un-nessesary and free up room.

Is it possible to turn off color text for all posts? Maybe it is the page style I use but these non-black text posts are quite difficult to read.

I solved that problem by switching the Forum layout to the Default layout which has a white background. I wasn't to crazy about the black background I got when I returned first of June and found the new Forum setup.

However the Default layout will not work for me if I use IE8 to access the forums. I get an 'Error on Page' notice on the status bar on the left and there is no bottom reply window and other things don't work. It's completely happy if I use Firefox to access the Forum. The second problem I've had using IE8 here, might just be my computer though. It's hamsters are eleven years old now. :)

Yeah I used to be against the idea of a second char on Siege not anymore though. I mean most that play on Siege either have soulstones or multiple accounts anyway soo. But sadly I doubt they will they probably afraid too many would close their extra accounts and soulstone sales would take a dive. I do have a tiny bit of hope though that one day they may get rid of the no second house rule and maybe let people place a small house that you have to refresh.

I personally feel one character is enough. That is what Soulstones were made for.

And on this second house idea... I wish this never happens, but if it has too, it should have the same decay time or less then an IDOC. Even then one can just make enough gold on one shard to place a 7x7 and just refresh it and still not play that shard. That would just hurt the people that do play that shard. Plus, is it safe to say that if one can have a second house on Siege, one can have a second on Atlantic? Sonoma? Napa Valley? If I did have the option for a second house, I would not take part in it...

    :mylittlepony:Thanks!

    P.S.
"Who (placed a house) in your backyard?" Umm, I know who... I know... It is the guy that has a second house here, but does not play here. :( This is what I am afraid what will happen to allow people to have a secound house...

Sure EA may sell less soulstones if we got more char slots but I don't think they would lose accounts as more would stay and many use their second account for a second house.
I'm all for more char slots, as players like playing different roles/chars. I have Freja, who is my PvM and PvP char. I like roleplay this char. Then I have Tina Tink, she was my smith, now she is my multy crafter. It's a pain switching skills on the soulstones all the time. I still have my tamer and my cook, scriber and Alchemist. I would love to have a fisher/tresure hunter and a miner/lumber girl. I would also love to get my tailor back on her own char again.
I really believe the one char only hurt us badly. Each time we get new templates, players will go to their old shard to try them out and they may not come back to Siege.

You could kill lizard men or lava lizards for hides to sell, or collect wool and make bolts of cloth. All would sell well. Just a few ideas for any newbs looking to make a nest egg.

I do not have multiple accounts. Multiple accounts does not make economic sense for me. For a regular shard player with the additional character slot and a normal amount of time, that is plenty of characters for one shard - Too many actually. I don't think I've used up all my slots on any shard. With the amount of time I have, getting my 3 characters to the point they are at now (Which really isn't that far - The best I can say about most of them is they are GM the skills I wanted, and I have a 120 smith.. Only character with 120 anything) took enough time, but being able to quickly load up my mule and craft some supplies, switch up to my mage and get some scrolls and a few runes marked, then whisk my dexer away for some fighting without the need for timers and stat rebalancing is something that I personally wouldn't give up.

I agree to an extent, as I stated before. I'd need a TON of them. And at $10 a pop for one reusable, plus the time needed to rebalance stats every time I want to switch from dexer to mage on Siege, and this, again, doesn't make economic sense.

Everything else about Siege I find interesting and attractive as a UO player.. The one character slot though is a deal breaker.

Yeah but not everyone can afford lots of soulstones. I mean I personally for myself am fine with just being limited to one character. I did it for some time with no soulstones. But I am also not a person that really likes to change their template a ton either. Well I see what you are saying about the house but if it was limited to a small house and people had to refresh I think sooner or later most if they didn;t want to play would get tired of refreshing a tiny home and just let it fall. True though if they opened up a second house slot on Siege they would probably also have to do it on other shards or people would throw a fit.. Course maybe they could use the argument that since Siege is a different ruleset.... ;) I would also not take part in a second house. Though with all my husbands accounts we already own a bunch of real estate on siege lol. I donlt even have a house on my main or my mage right now.

Yeah and not only do you have to switch skills like someone pointed out there is also stat redistribution you may need to worry about. But yeah one char only has hurt us badly I think. Soulstones did help the problem but like I said not everyone can afford lots of soulstones. I think even if it was just one more slot we would get some more people willing to try Siege. Same thing with the house thing even if they were limited to a tiny house that they had to refresh every week or so.
