I watched all 4 parts of the HoC and read all of the related threads here in Stratics as well. I must say it wasn't much different in quality than the last batch of FOFs right before those were scrapped. Admittedly there's a lot of information on new items, Magincia and such.. A bit of info about art and so on; By the way how is that going to change anything? No one plays UO for its graphics obviously. Either we get a new UO or we might as well give the CC EC's GUI and be done with that. Anyway.. There's even a bit of information on PVP Arenas.. But we knew all that, kind of..

That's all fine, considering we've had FOFs on much less relevant issues. However there are a few very important issues that were not touched at all. There's a poll here which indicates currently that players would be greatly interested in taking a look at existing, problematic systems. So I have to wonder how difficult it would be for Cal and his team to cover THOSE issues some time soon. Even if they don't go into much more detail it would be nice.

 ... It's been too long since PVP, Factions, cheating and such were discussed openly. Insisting on PVP not being a major part of the game, which IMHO it is to be honest, is one thing. Mentioning things like new items, then not talking about PVP at ALL.. Does that translate into "We don't need your money, go play another MMO!" for those of us whose sole source of entertainment in UO is actually PVP? I personally had to resort to that.

New items interest us all equally I'd think so maybe that was a bad example but I think I made my point, it seems fixing anything related to combat is extremely low on their priority list. Why do we need an Arena if the system the Arena is designed to support is broken, abused and attracts mostly cheaters?

I don't see why you find PvP to be as important on the devs priority list when they instead are working on much more interesting and necessary things like Magincia having a flower garden.

The irony is that some things affecting PVP in a way they shouldn't, originate just from such minor additions! ;P

*Your target goes into an allergic shock!*.. That would be DPS..? :stir:

Really, you mean IF you ever see me in UO again.. Which will be if anything serious is ever done about PvP/PvE.. Combat in general, that is. For the time being I'll stick to that other MMO I mentioned.

Haven't you noticed? Everything they do in PVE is to enhance PVP. Why do you think the PVE players who kept this game going for the last decade are leaving in droves and only the PVP players are staying. Making the shards deserts, participitation non existant and subscriptions to all time lows.

I'd say they'd do all they have done even if PVP was just.. Removed completely.. So I don't agree.

Regarding keeping the game alive, no single group of players can possibly be considered solely responsible for UO's longevity, else we should count in all the BOTS!.. Which would then force us to admit that UO's main population and driving force for the last years is comprised of those! ;P
Anyway.. In fact in my experience many of the oldest players in terms of gaming actively PVP- Which is not to say they don't actively PVE as well, just that they prefer the first.

Who come and go and how many, we can't accurately say so I can't give you any word nor take yours naturally. I'm a PVPer and I did NOT stay after all. I left, because I am not able to cope with such amounts of BS as the Devs have been spewing out on all the issues that do concern me- Which is to say, COMBAT. All of it. Other players and their choices, demands and needs have nothing to do with my choice...

Even though it does feel to me that the PVP part of COMBAT has been neglected more than the PVE in terms of contents and quality, that is not my point.

maybe the 'new items' for the next publish will all be PVP based - if you want to be elite, you gotta pay, irl

Lol here's what you're working with....

In a different post the dev's like to log on to say...
BUT when we post obvious flaws with the game such as Cleansing winds healing through mortal strike we get no response what so ever.

They could just take 2 seconds to acknowledge the things we post that are wrong with the game, but I guess there time is better spent narcissisticly spell checking people. AWESOME.

Good luck getting pvp responses. Do what I'm doing and wait for the pub 70 notes to see if you want to quit or not.

Single group not really like that. But it the same vain as in the start of UO the pvp, pkers, thiefs rule the game they had the largest population even though many others joined because of the popularity of the Ultma series and the few alternatives there were.

Though after the Trammel split there were a growing number of rpgers, pvm, rare hunters, merchants etc and less number of thieves and pkers though regular pvp still trived. After Aos thieves were fazed out and pvpers were in a minority. PVM,rpgers, merchants, rare hunters trived into record numbers.

The game then was placed on life supports for 8 years or so. Then came the time we are now with changes removing the PVM,merchants from the game. This time the pvpers, pkers, thieves that left are not coming back "too little too late type thing" Not only that they managed to **** of the vets of the game and most of my fellow +decaders are disapearing. Which leaves only the pvpers that remain footing the bill and the pvm that are staying. The numbers on both sides are not looking good so we end up in the situation we are now.

This time unlike other times the end is near cries are not so far from the truth.

Puni666 : That always baffled me. The only thing I've ever seen a Dev commenting on directly, that had to do with Combat Mechanics was about Poisoning and Potions and potentially giving those tweaked timers. The comment baffled me even more but that's a different story.. From there it goes to "The Devs don't know their own stuff" arguement pretty quickly and I don't want to sink this thread too low yet, despite how true this seems to be.

No, not waiting for any Pub#. Done that, I'm currently playing the MMO-That-Must-Not-Be-Named-Here.

Sevin0oo0 : It was never about getting new PVP items.. I wish all my issues with UO were as simple as investing money to get better items. It solves nothing mentioned here.

[JD] : Russian Military Camo > Glacial Chartreuse!! Check the piccies attached! And yes, what my character is wearing there was actually a perfectly good PVP suit.. Apparently I'm talking about the 2nd image.. ;P If only the Devs allowed for switching item graphics it would have saved me a lot of trouble back then by the way. Still, I was determined not to look like a clown to PVP.

UOKaiser : At the beginning of many things, including Humanity, the strongest always seem to have had the upper hand. This is Natural. What is also Natural is how easily this changes as things evolve. If UO's strongest were those of us who first decided to prey on other players, evolution made it clear that this wasn't going to be as easy as the earlier days. Suddenly we got Trammel and the whole thing went moot. Who knows what could have happened if that never occured! In other Non-Con PVP games or Servers of games, those who do not like being attacked and killed on sight don't really quit even without "Trammel" equivalents. The Sims types will quit, I'll give you that much... Yet I've been on both sides of this for too long but nothing ever made me quit that was related to How-Things-Work in UO.

Even after Trammel, people were still fine with UO. Almost all of us. Then came AOS as you said and..

Conclusion to this epic tale? In short UO got messed up and it's not something new items, XPacks, returning players, Con PVP or graphics or any other combination can cure. The thing needs tuning. Lots.. And the Devs don't care. THIS is what made me mention the whole thing in combination with their HoC clips.

Well they could talk about PVP shards, Factions and cheating being their top priorities like in last year's State of the Game Feb 12 2010 ... but nobody would believe it.

fyi Arenas were launched on August 5th, 2010 in the Call to Arms Promotion but I guess someone forgot to enable them in the last 7 months.

S!ck, before you quit, dupe me some AK-47s.

Gaming really made an interesting turn. Free to play might be the final blow. There are games out there with fun PvP that look better and run better than UO, and no one has to pay for them. It seems bizarre to me but I guess we have come full circle now. First there were the shareware days, then the manual page password days, the online verification days and won't install more than three time days, the rootkit days, now back to shareware but not physical, digital downloads dressed as iTunes, microtransactions, advancement based on generous laziness or pure addiction; **** it or why not.

You mean like how minor changes to balance PvP have a tendency to effect PvM as well?

    It's not Irony it's a feature.

You aren't the only one on that boat, any changes to how combat works effects pretty much everyone on both sides of the moongate. Better to wait see what comes out then provide feedback that will help fix things than to ask "What's Going to Happen?". There is no way possible that I can imagine the Devs running every possible template combination through with every item or balancing effort they make. For all we know next week Stealth Herder's will be the most overpowered PvP template in UO.

GVP : That pic wasn't of one of my characters.. ;P But I'll see what I can do... But it only has one Special Move : Head Shot

Nexus : No, that wasn't what I was referring to. Certain ways to abuse certain things spawned from adding stuff, is what I am saying. To keep it short. Nothing to do with balance. As you said.. Changing Combat mechanics affects all sides of it. I'm not complaining about PvP or PvE separately here.

Wait and see he says.. I've been doing that ever since that Jenga tower crumbled. What's more I'm not even asking what's going to happen if you think about it.

Providing info? Done that too, in any way I could. Many players mostly focused on Combat have tried this. It never helped, it never led to anything getting looked into and I fail to see any Devs running one single character either way, let alone having spent time to build the more exotic types. Even though that's just my own perception I can't take your word on this. I don't see any real effort towards balancing Combat. A few things here and there, scratching the surface when the thing is rotten in to out. After so many conversations about these things, I still see the same issues.

Pvp fixes SHOULD effect pvm game play... Everything SHOULD work correctly (balanced). Take how wraith form Mana Leech is based off of Spirit Speak, BUT the current Vampiric Embrace form's 20% Life Leech is not based off of Spirit Speak wth...
