So i like many have been away from UO for a while, 15 years is a long time and sometimes you just need a break.
I took advantage of the RtB to pop back in and yes, to collect my 15 anniversary gifts.
The gift's may even have 'seduced' me to return once more again...
I was hoping it was an oversight that only paying accounts got them but i now see that isnt the case any longer.
This is the 1st time in 15 years this has happened and i was so angry and dissapointed.

Anyway, long story short.. I deleted my account, i wont be associated with the 'new' way of doing things.
To many friends over a 15 year UO history that may still be around lurking on these boards that remember the glory days of Europa and the Britannia Guard and the Duchy of Trinsic i say....
...So long and thanks for all the fish.

The Return to Brit accounts are being treated as trial accounts - which is what they are, in essence. A trial to see if you'd like to return. Trial accounts are not eligible for gifts.
To be eligible for a gift you need to pay for just one month of game time. In other words to actually Return to Brit and not just think about doing it.

Stop being so cheap and pay 12 bucks to get the gifts? This is the problem with america everyone think they are owed something.

Wow, kick a guy when he's down. It might have just been as effective to say "Yes indeed UO has finally noticed that the RtB account should not have been eligible for gifts, sorry that in this moment your account was caught up in the mix. I hope that you consider giving UO a chance when it pleases you to do so and, with luck, we shall all be here waiting for you."

Being the UO Community Liason I would expect a more considerate response from such posts as this given that keeping a paying UO client is a mutally benifical item to Stratics and this person decided to post on stratics. The same could be said for other postings but I wish to derail this thread no more.

    Slayvite,

Good luck with what ever it is that you decide to do with your new found time. I hope you can match up some of the fish with some of that beer in your picture. With luck UO will be waiting for you if you decide to give it another go, goodness knows we have all tried or considered giving this game the boot at one time or another. Keep a Babel and a towel handy, you never know if you might need them.

Sounds like you are trying to get us to think that you have been here for 15 yrs when in fact you are already on a break and have been for a while.
So the only (real) reason you logged in was to collect gifts and you had no intention to really Return to Brit. Shame on you, there is a lot more to UO than just Anniv. Gifts.
You can never delete an account only chars. and IMHO you did not do this so quit trying to make us believe it. Sorry you didn't get your candy and if that was the only reason you logged in then you really didn't want to return to brit you just wanted to see if you could get a rare. Those are for players that pay to play, sorry.

I'm struggling to see why not receiving gifts on a RTB account is a problem.
If you decide to play, and pay, you receive the gifts. If you decide not to, the gifts are useless anyway, you don't need them. The only ones I can see who could be annoyed about it is those who thought they were going to make some cash out of them.
Deleting the account is an over reaction which I hope he won't regret.

I don't know the Op and I don't really know any of you. I bet though that most who replied have already gotten plenty of gifts. Yes,I know you paid. Me too.

Why jump on someone who is already down? Why not say, something positive? Consider this, a few kind and sympathetic words might have gotten him to try again. Maybe. Just saying. Jump on me all you want. I will stay as long as I have houses.

I do not get what he is upset about either.

If he decides to actually come back and play he gets his gifts. If he does not come back what is he going to do with them anyway?

I agree with the "general response".... If your using RTB then you HAVE NOT been playing & thus only those loyal / paying customers should get a gift....

Here is the problem. The OP is stomping thier feet and whining like a little child and even went so far as to say they deleted thier account (BS on this) all over an anniv. gift.

I have had my account hacked in the past (lost house, all items and gold)and yes I was totaly upset but after a few days I logged back in and went hunting around WWB (Tram and Fel (pre AoS) were the only 2 lands) for some armor and peps asked if they could help. WOW Got Tram Small Tower in the woods, fully set up for crafting(lost small Marble workshop), enough gear to outfit all 5 chars (better than what I had), a little over 1M gold (most I ever had), and some ingots, regs, wood and cloth. Baja was great to me and everyone helped.

15th Anniv. 3 active accounts all got gifts. 4 inactive accounts and everytime I tried to log in they said I had to link them first. NP I linked inactive account #1 and logged in. WOW account wiped (see bug report forum), chars and items all gone. Then they changed something and we were allowed to log into unlinked accounts and all 3 of my inactive accounts were fine.

So to sum it all up I have been hacked and lost everything (still stayed) and now EA/UO has wiped one of my (inactive) accounts (BOD runners only not to bad) for me and guess what, I DID NOT stomp my little feet and cry to my mommy and delete my (active/inactive) 7 accounts, so I am not in the mood to listen to someone whine just because they didn't get a chance at a rare gift (2 possible). That is the only reason the OP even tried to log-in.

    Petra, Lord Frodo is right.
This is prime example of a thread to declare the "I QUIT"
To get a rise out of us. UO has so much going for it and yet this fool went in looking for freebies and sense not getting any ............. they stomp their feet and cry foul.
I have met so many in the last week in UO of old players who took a look at UO when they got the offer for the RTB. Some went out and turned on their accounts! they got 2 months for free and are so happy to come back. Had our "friend" here done so he would be not singing the blues about scrapping his account and crowing about gifts ungotten.
Sorry we fell short of his expectations... But to all the returning players...................
    WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!:p

This guy has 1100+ postings on stratics and took the time to come back and relay his concerns. Yes who gives a ****e about RtB rewards, I care about the 3 people playing this game.

The mods have a implied obligation to promote this game, the forums and a sense of community be it for better or worse but, IMO, some of the comments from mods other than Petra (whom does an amazing job regardless of my personal views) could do with review.

Sometimes it must also require some harsh truths. Telling him the fact of why he did not receive the gifts is not kicking him when he's down it's being honest with him as well passing on valuable information. Plus I don't think anyone would disagree that the OP extremely overreacted over simple anniversary gifts. A simple glance on these forums would have yielded the answer to his problem quickly.

    :please:
I MUST AGREE WITH YOU, on this score, Cyrah.

Pouncing on the poster in a thread like this:pie: by assuming too much without basic facts and then blasting accusations at him, and interrogating his motives, is akin to holding a mob hanging. It's not exactly the way to encourage anyone to post here or return to UO, not only this poster, but others who read these posts, who want to be open and sincere when they express their concerns. Is it possible the poster in this case, is looking for information and encouragement? Most people who have played UO, will and do want to return to the game again eventually, and UO needs the support.

However, I love the way the actual paying-player based community existing right now in UO is so positively strong about supporting each other and in return, in support of ULTIMA ON LINE that they are so ready to defend the game from any slander. This is still a very UNIQUE never-ending game.

So what is needed here? Balance, cooler heads, more :grouphug: plus an ability to accept Slayvite and other posters with reasonable open mindedness and tolerance?

Talked a friend into coming back to take a peek. She logged on, seen some things and paid for a month, got her gifts and is HAPPY! Isn't that the way it is suppose to work? If making her log in to check it out required her to get a gift, I would have given her one of mine!

    Lol, really?

Hey all i was doing was saying i'm not happy with the money money direction this game has gone.
Yes i been here for 15 years and have been playing the first 12 of them solidly. Unfortunatly as you get older RL has to take priority more.
Lol, i probably payed/played more in my youth than half the posters here (yet now they are the authority?).

I wasn't after sympathy, i was mearly making a point the the 'freebies' are normally a way to get old timers like me back in. Once you log in and get gifts and play with them you generally start wandering around to see what else has changed, then Bam! you got the bug again.
To be greeted on first log in with the theme of 'screw you, you don't pay' is not a good incentive to carry on.
The fact is these were 15th year anniversary gifts not rewards (or that's what they were called in the past anyway).

Oh and yes you can delete an account still and i did it because i don't want to get the 'urge' to log in again.
My time in UO is over, i was just saying goodbye.

Most posts in this thread was about your dissatisfaction with not receiving anniversary gifts with free playtime, not you not liking the direction game had gone. Nothing more to add to discussion really.

That isn't what your initial post read. All you said was you were urged to log in, didn't get your 15th anniversary gift, got mad and deleted your account. Perhaps you just weren't clear enough in your first post because that's pretty much what everyone else saw.

Edit: If your intention was because you just didn't like the overall direction of this game you should have made that clear. And if that is your actual reason for deleting your account then thanks for the clarification as doing it because RTB accounts didn't receive anniversary gifts did seem rediculous.

So getting a FREE month wasn't good enough for you. GEE SORRY
Did I miss something? Did anyone get a Ann. Gift that you could play with?
UO fixed a problem and you are upset with it, you didn't get your pixils, bottom line.
RTB is to let players come and check out what has changed in the game and to walk the land not just to log-in and get thier candy and log-off. Sorry that UO gave you a FREE month to hook up with old friends, met new friends and look around and that wasn't good enough for you. And if you are woundering I have been here for 14yrs and have paid for every one of them.

I would have gifted you a harpsichord on whatever shard you played if that was truly the problem. I don't see how not getting a gift that requires a house to use, truly matters that much to someone who isn't playing.
The gifts are to thank those who are paying to keep this game alive and those aren't paying got to benefit from all of us with a month of free game time.

My suggestion to the OP... take a step back and try to look at this with new eyes and turn the negative into a positive. I'm assuming you deleted the characters, since I've never heard of anyone deleting the account. Make a NEW character and explore the world. In fact, even though I'm a mom of 3 with a family to take care of, I'll devote 3 hours this week to starting a new character with you and exploring the world no matter what time zone you are in. I bet others would be willing to do the same. We can make a post introducing you to the shard of your choosing and see if we can find a guild that would fit the playstyle you enjoy and the ability to understand and respect your home life.

Perhaps this incident will be a blessing in disguise and you'll find for the cost of a couple cups of starbucks or a couple meals at a fast food joint that you can have some fun when you have time. $12/month isn't very much and to have a whole world to enjoy whenever YOU want, sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

P.S. I know if you deleted your characters you won't be able to get the gifts even if you pay for the account due to character age... so if you are still around and decide to pay for your account after RTB is over, I will do my best to get you a gift bag or two on whatever shard you choose to call home.

Give it a shot. Life is too short to let negativity suck on your soul. You'd be surprised how often when you just try to have fun, sometimes you really do enjoy yourself.

I bolded the original part right there where it seems everyone here failed at 3rd grade reading comprehension. I almost thought I was reading WoW general forums they way you so called adults are acting. Pathetic. Hide your head in the sand all you want and pretend this has always been like this every anniversary and it's nothing but a money grab. OP made it clear he isn't playing EA's fail money grab game but you chose to ignore it so you can look "cool" on some small time internet message board. Double pathetic.

The only person trying to look cool from what I read is the above post. I (and I'm pretty sure most other posters in this thread) knew what OP was talking about, you didn't need to highlight it. It doesn't matter how EA has been doing RTB's up until now. I prefer it this way tbh so the game wouldn't be littered with RTB houses. But the fact is the OP quit over such a small thing as not getting anniversary gifts after receiving a free month of gametime, and even went so far to say the account was deleted. Coming to a games forum only to complain of that reminds me of WoW general.

I get it Picus... You are not a kelmo fan. Let us leave that personal bias elsewhere.

I don't have any issues with anyone on this board. What I do have an issue with is the impression of a clear bias towards one side of the discussion and not allowing comments or other view points when in comes to the direction of the game. If no one cared about the game no one would bother complaining, not even this moron with his crying about items.

I don't know... I don't see anything wrong with giving the RTB people the anny gifts. So a few people get a few "extra" they wouldn't have normally gotten.
If it entices one out of every 10 to resub to the game I think it's worth the extra.
    But that's just me.

Might as well kill this thread now.
In hindsight, I think it probably should have been moved to SnR. The Devs finally address an oversight in letting RtB accounts place houses, get gifts, etc., and it drives people who have come back expecting the oversight to continue but found it was not so, so upset that they take whatever action 1st comes to mind.

In reality, I think those of us who play this game should feel heartened that bugs/programming oversights/etc. are being examined and when possible, rectified.
Pom Pom waving? I don't think so, as I have been critical of some dev decisions/actions when i feel warranted. In this case, I am not unhappy that something with RtB that has been an issue in the past was fixed.

Possibly, but I suspect this is an extension of them fixing the issue of RtB accounts and houses. Some people will say it is good, others will say it is bad.
If you think thge "new and improved RtB" is the way it should be, then it is good.
If you do not like the "new and improved RtB", then I think it is an event like the "over-nerf" of the Berserkers suit, where the "fix" to its issues in PvP made the suit only useful as a museum piece.

Funny thing, should the devs review complaints regarding RtB accounts not getting anniversary gifts and make changes, the OPs reactions would make it impossible for him to participate...

I agree with you on this, BUT.
#1 The OP hasn't played in 3 yrs but is still an active Stratics user. NP
#2 There are already posts about the RTBers not getting the Ann. Gift.
#3 The OP had no intention of re-subbing all he/she wanted was the candy.
    The best for last
#4 If the OP had posted like an adult then there would have been way different replies. But no the OP came on here and threw a TUDE like a 3 year old, well guess what most people replied to him/her like we would a 3 year old with a TUDE and to prove how utterly childish he/she is, he/she deletes his/her char. Now that is being a real adult.

RTB is about letting past UOers come see what UO is all about not what they can get for free. UO has already given them 1 month free and if they like what they see then great, WELCOME BACK. But if all you want is the candy and have no intention of re-subbing then plz have a nice day but don't come here and throw a hissy fit and expect us to not say anything.

Petra they always were, infact my RTB chars still have the gifts from previous years left over from swaps and trades, so please STOP with the reasoning you are NOT a dev and they HAVE changed things this year, of all years!

another reason this game has gone downhill, and with stratics filtering any comments that don't suck up the devs will never learn, so check the facts this is NEW and not a welcome change

If you have the ear of Mesanna, like is sounds like you do, then please represent the players and not parrot fashion spout out the Dev talk to us

so, finally this IS a new change and should not have happened. What you will have learned if you actually thought about it, is the RTB players swap gifts with players on other shards, i have many icq contacts this way, and most of the gifts are swapped with current players so they can complete collections, this is the TRUE spirit of the communty that has been SHATTERED this year and anyone who complains has post deleted or have posts called "ridiculous" by YOU here on stratics, that is only YOUR opinion, and thats all it is
    and its WRONG

I agree with you and also disappointed in the change and the attitude of the current players, to celebrate the 15th year we will not offer gifts, gifts that i swap with others to complete collection

also no point saying anything agaisnt this change the vultures swoop in

Misk will never learn about the history of this game while the posts are filtered or deleted here, so unhinge the revolving door until there is a change in attitude, power has def gone to someone head here

good luck to you mate, and to others that wont return either....

surely there is a section on stratics about it for 14 years they sharded gifts to celebrate RTB, this year ,no notification of the change, this does not seem strange to you at all?

thats the problem Petra, another negative change
AND, also this "free" month, is a great opportunity to log n chars on other shards, contact friends on icq and swap the gifts with them, wonderful experience to share with others, spend time with others, have them show you around chat and have a great time, then show them your home shard, i spent most of the RTB time on other shards meeting new people, wonderful, then when all gifts are swapped for home, help others with collections, the Europa museum id stuffed full because of this

THIS IS WHY ITS A PROBLEM. stopping this is a very bad idea, the first time it has happened

    understand now?

Yes, it's the first year this has happened. And it's the first time you haven't been able to place those never-falling houses. Don't you think those two facts are related? I certainly do.
If you want gifts that badly I'll give you mine, I only have room in my house for one harpsichord, you can have all the rest, and the cakes etc, excluding only the ones I've already given away. Bad news though is, I didn't get a gold one on any shard. Sorry about that.

assuming you have chars on all shards you could log them in swap with new friends there, log back and recieve their gifts here, then you can hopefully get a gold one, or complete collection and also help friends with thiers, thats why i am angry i did not receive gifts this year

I am a paying player. I do not have an issue with them stopping RtB accounts from placing houses, receiving gifts, etc. To me, these issues are tied into each other and, I am GLAD that something has been done.

What good is the "candy" unless you are resubbing? Honest question. Why would anyone want this stuff unless they might consider actually playing again if they enjoy it enough? I honestly am indifferent towards the RTB program. To me if the team working on UO wants to get people back into the game they have to do it though creating buzz. Making chatter on gaming sites about something exciting happening in the game etc... But I digress this is completely OT.
No matter how bitchy the OP might have sounded to you (not saying he sounded that way to me), to me he's got a point. I realize there's quite a few people who are all "Yay I can open my 4065277665 accounts and get a whole big ole pile of gifts" but I checked and you don't get turn in points for them. They're so common they don't have great value. So it's not like someones going to open an account make a hundred bucks off of anny gifts then close their accounts. At least I don't see it.
So to me I say "who cares" if RTB gets gifts.. I sure don't. Let 'em! Let them fill up their lil bank boxes to the brim with sacks that say 15th anniversary on them. Harpsichords out the ying yang. If we even get a handfull of people to say "hey this stuff is cool maybe I'll play for a while again" it's worth it.
