Solo Paroxy......

So i was the 2nd person to solo champ on my shard (dreadhorn) well over a year ago. I solod mad and had a lot of fun. After about 300 solo runs, i got bored and took 9 months off.

Came back a few months ago, and am now getting a little bored of champs. So i said, what the heck, lets go for another peerless solo. Lots of peeps are doing Paroxy, so i should have no problem.

Well, after 3 trys and gaining some humility, here i am scurrying to the board asking, how in the world do people solo him?

Basically, i have no problems getting to him or hanging with him for a short while but all the sudden BAM - i go from 100 HP to dead - he one shot kills me somehow every time. How are other not getting 1 shot killed?

I have 132 HP, all 70 resists, vamp form for 20% HP leech, curse wep for another 50% HP leech, ss for another 30% chance at 25% leech - i have no problems staying alive until that one hit kill he does.

How is this not happening to others?

occasional lightning strike, and simple soul seeker is all.

any idea how he 1 hit me for 100+?

Maybe just chance of an explo and flamestrike and poison damage and melee hit all going off at the same time the few times i duked it out with him?

Going from over 100 hp to dead with an all 70's suit is quite demoralzing, especiallly when folks think he is an easy solo.

Athlon I read your original post in the Warrior Forum and your post ended up helping me out alot. So thanks for your input in that thread and it's very interesting to read your post here about Paroxysmus because I have the same thing happen to me.

Maybe there was a change since you posted on the Warrior Forum a year ago.

Myself when dealing with the Demon Prince I am forced to joust him and only engage when my health is close to full. The second I drop below 75% or so I run because of that deadly special poison strike that seems to come in tandem with a regular hard hitting blow. I use a soulseeker but I think alot of people that have success against him are using the special move 'feint'.

Paroxysmsus is doable but takes a longer than the Corrupted Unicorn because you have to retreat and heal. In a blink of an eye you can be seeing monochrome.

I too am curious if there are any warriors who easily dispatch of him.

From what I understand the Wammy has more success on Parox than a Sampire.

If Wammy has more success that is interesting. Reason i use Sampire is because i want to reduce as much of that huge 1 hit damage as possible. I use a swampy with exceptional barding deed to reduce 20% of the damage he does, and he still one hit kills me somehow.

I tried with my prized possession - an uber ornate axe that does big damage, and like i was saying - doesnt matter the damage i do to him because within a 5 minute period he alwasy seems to 1 hit me to death.

I guess it is possible to use a wammy and spam feint, getting 50% less damage instead of 20% in vamp with Exc. Dragon Barding deed?

same thing with me. Dread horn I can do fairly easy but Paroxy... I see some kind of double hit on me that takes me down in one hit when I am very close to full health.
I can hit him for maybe 5 minutes fairly well until that como hit he gives then i am done.

I came here to see if anyone had any idea what to do. I tried some of the new balms they do nothing.
  11. Perhaps he dislikes repond slayers. Despite what people say opposing slayer still works (I know he doesn't have a slayer himself but he still might do double to other kinds) Undead talisman? You sound as if you have more than double the leech I ever used and I did him well over 80 times with no real problems.
If you have necro and ss (which was the first build I ever tired it with & it's kinda unnecessary) then I'm wondering if you maybe missed out on something vital elsewhere.

120 Weapon (Ornate Axe or Diamond Mace best imo)
    120 Bushido
120 Parry (Counter Attack alone is worth it)
    90 Tactics
    70 Chiv
    100 Necro
100 SS OR 100 Anat (Personally I don't think the SS is necessary with Vamp + Confidense, plus Anat will give you more damage)

Level 2 or 3 Honor to give you plenty of time to kill the Bulbous Putrifiers with monster ignore on.

Armoued swamp? I used a Paroxysmus' one which apparenty give 10% reduction, regular ones apparently give 20%.

Drop the keys, EoO, Embrace Honor, Go in. Honour the first Bulbous Putrifier, Consecrate Weapon, Lightning Strike & Counter Attack. Repeat for the other two. Honour the Chief.
Lightning Strike & Counter Attack again, if he gets you low time your Confidense between poison ticks.

Don't use hit spell, if you joust him at any point and it goes off you might get teleported back to him for a double hit.

You only really need 70 phys and poison resist on your suit. You don't really need HCI as Lightning Strike is 50, so you can max out on Damage Increase & DCI.

Sacrifice for self res if needed (you shouldn't need it) + 1 item of arcane clothing (1 chg per necro spell lets you cast without regs for vamp form).

All of the above makes it pretty easy. Though if you go with Diamond Maces you can also use str/dex/refresh pots to make it even easier.

I'd like to see someone...anyone.. stand toe to toe with him for the entire duration without backing up or jousting. I don't think it can be done. I'm not saying it can't be done but until I see it with my own two eyes I'll remain skeptic.

Chief Paroxysmus special attack will do 100+ in a split second and if you survive that you better run for your life and heal up. You can't leech through him like the Dreadhorn because his special is too powerful and too random. You have no idea when it's comming that's why when your at half health trying to leech your way through everything turns to monochrone before you know what hit you.

The only good thing about Paroxsymus is he is so slow and that you have the mobility to back up and heal. Unlike the Corrupted Unicorn who does that bullrush charge and lights you up like a firecracker when you try to run.The Demon Prince's teleport attack is negligible in my opinion and not that much of a factor. Just be prepared to take a step back if he uses it.

Always stay in the 80-85% (100)+ health range when you engage the Demon Prince or your playing with fire. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Athlon my home shard is Sonoma.

I haven't used 'feint' though so if your a whammy you might be able to spam 'feint' like you suggested and see what kind of results you get. I need to get my hands on a good leafblade myself to test it out but I've been so busy doing Champion Spawns instead of Peerless lately.

My friend soloes it with a bush archer. Stays just few tiles away so it doenst pull, and uses HPI suit to have 150hp to avoid instakills.

Thanks guys.. I did it for the first time tonight.

I sucked but did it. When he does those attacks that do around 100 points of damage you just have to back off.

I noticed I missed a lot.. very annoying.
  16. athlon

    athlon Guest

Maybe it is the double hit he is getting me with. Is there a way to avoid his double hit? Or do you somehow just have to make sure you stay above 100 hp?
  17. I'm of the opinion that he has his own counter attack, the few times he used to instant kill me were when my counter attack went off at the same time as his.

Ranged attacks cause the teleport hit & counter. The best way to go is fewer hits that do more, if you've ever done a group one with an archer using a repeater with hit fireball you'll notice they spend the majority of time getting res'd.

With pots and using evade it's possible to stand toe to toe with him for the entire fight though maybe I just got lucky with my hits that fight. He had under 1/4 life by the time the keys expired.

Max hp can't hurt if you can get it.

I never tried but theres also a Ninja version of the sampire (not sure if it still fits), I don't know if he heals off mirror images but if he doesn't and you can get 120 Ninjitsu thats a 90% avoid rate. When his damage gets diverted to an image he will stand there not atacking you, kind of like you'd targeted peaced him (until he either re flags or more than likely a poison tick goes off) at the same time you will continue to swing at him... I don't know if this works but it should as long as he doesn't heal from images. You'd probably need to spam the images for that though.

I also noticed something about that. I was using a weapon with lighting strike on it and was way better off using a weapon with hit lower defense with no lighting strike.

I think you are right they might have a counter attack for each attack that you hit.
  19. Shimmering works in a similar way the more small damage ticks hitting it the more stuff it spawns. Soloers rarely had more than 5 spawn the entire duration.

When you have a group with greater dragons that are hitting it with bleed/breath/2 spells/melee on top of whatever the player is doing it spawns loads of them. Or before greater dragon when it would be beetle/mare same thing only then it was bleed/dp/breath/4 spells/2 melee.
