Some...wheeereeee ogre the rainbow......

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Prince Caspian, Nov 18, 2010.

  1. With the new Treasure Hunt changes, I'm making a tidy profit digging up chests and selling off the blue scrolls and stocking up my reagents.

    My Treasurehunter has the following:
    70s suit
Cart/Mining/Tacs/Fencing/Resist/Lockpicking/Magery and some change in other skills

Since the Dark Guardian Room is an easy place to get tons of maps, I usually farm em up there with my main and hand em to my Thunter to do, usually up to adeptly.

With Adeptly, I do the typical thing of running off and luring them one by one to solo them. Every single monster I can take down quickly, with minimal damage.

    All except Ogre Lords.

They kill me with four hits, and they hit often. I used to just call in my main to take them out relatively quickly (pallyarcher with an ogre slaying bow), but I've been forcing myself to do the hunts the "correct" way and take care of them with my Thunter.

I can take them down, but with a LOT of guzzling potions and run-away-heal-run-back tactics. Blade Spirits don't work very well and my magery isnt high enough for EV (Its 72).

    Any general tactic suggestions?

Drop Resist and get more magery....

Or... Add magery ring/brace and carry EV scrolls.

90 magery with EV scrolls should work. It makes them essentially 1 level lower spell from a scroll.

    Cast EV's and much cheetos.

I think that is the actual UO PVM Tagline.

curious what weapon are you using? and what mods are on it? i would assume the leaf blade's specials would be the most useful for ogre lords with your temp.

  4. Mondain's Kryss Replica. Granted, it's pretty lousy for this work, but I'll see if I can get ahold of a leaf blade. Thanks!

I don't know if this will work but could try it on test shard. Get spellweaving and tame then and then release they go poof. Yeah you wont get the loot off them but they will be gone.

Also not sure if this still works but you use to be able to use carto on your maps then take it off to a stone then put on another skill. So you do all your maps then remove carto and when you need to figure out new maps you put it back on.

    That works.
So I usually juggle around Carto/LP/Mining/Fishing.
The rest of the template usually resembles Mystic/Focus/Hide/Stealth/Ninja.
I've been able to use Rising Colossi with that template to solo a lvl6 without too much risk, although it is time consuming. Animal forms are pretty useful, giving you possible health regen or mounted rate while the RC is up. Hide/Stealth is good to move around and break aggro (smoke bombs with Ninja).

they're hitting for 25-28'ish in 70's. I use a soul seeker (just my weapon of choice), but sometimes I have to back off to heal once or twice, fortunately, they're really slow movers. Do paragon ones still spawn in dungeons, or did they turn that off?

Actually, 2 levels lower for casting difficulty, but still takes the original level's mana.

Even a 0 Magery human has a 27% chance of casting blade spirits and other level 5 scrolls, which used to come in handly before vollems and the T-map changes changed the game.

    For the Ogre Lords:

Use a fencing (or UBWS sword) weapon with Ogre Slayer, that has armor ignore as a special move (high mana leech won't hurt, either), and use hit and run tactics. You'll only do 90% of your max damage (which will be substantial, with the +200% di from the non-super slayer added in), but it will be against 0 resist. You'll start hitting it for more than it hits you. Just run by it every 3 seconds hitting it with an AI until it drops. And, it can be a slow, heavy damage, weapon, since you will be waiting longer than your swing time to let the double-mana special move counter expire.

Ogre Lords are only dangerous if you try to fight them toe to toe, without moving.

I have a similiar difficulty soloing Ingeniouslys on my bard/mage thunter with the Ancent Wyrms. first part is simple... just provoke everything onto the wyrms one by one. But then when it comes to taking down the wyrms I have to call for backup. Any tips? Template is: 120 provo/peace/music, 115 magery, 100 cart/lockpicking/mining. Peacing and EV's is kind of an option but not really because the success chance is so low even with dragon slayer instruments.

PS - Before anyone asks, I use jewelery to get above 720 :p

Had a similar template and AWs were a pain in the neck to finish. Stoned off music and provo and got the "one-for-all" skill mysticism (plus focus). Rising colossus makes short work with the AWs.

I'm a lot more effective now, but also a little sad that another little bit of skill diversity went down the drain.

What about dropping fencing, increasing magery, picking some chiv and using mage weapon bows?

You could always go Tamer. My T-hunter can solo any T-map, pretty quickly, and I do not move skills around with a stone. I run:

    Taming - 110
    Lore - 110
    Vet - 90
    Magery - 110
    Cart - 100
    Lockpicking - 100
    Mining - 100

I am a Gargoyle and usually take my Greater with me on hunts.
