Is the Soul Seeker a craftable item or is it a random drop from a monster? If it is a random drop which creature tends to generate it? i'm building a Sampire and am currently raising Necro first to get the negative Karma thing out of the way, then its Parry and Swords.

Its a paragon Minor artie drop available in Ilshener.

You might be best buying one rather than trying to farm it as they don't cost that much.

    Great weap :D

Personally I wish they would have never been invented. I didn't like it when I first saw it and I still don't like it.

Its too much leech and too much speed with whirlwind. In the middle of a mob of creatures it makes you invincible as you steal mana and life with each whirlwind.

It KILLED the crafter swords market. It is the primary weapon of every PvM dexer and most spawner dexers as well.

Make it go away! (Even though my Pally's all use it)

If you don't like the soul seeker give yours to the OP. Btw the soul seeker is a artie drop in ML dungeons such as lady mel, dreadhorn and the laybrinth.

Both of the times I've gotten it to drop is from swoops. But off all the drops (about 2 dozen or so) I've gotten from swoops in the last 2 years I've only got about 3 items worth keeping.

I love my Soulseeker. I always carry it. I also carry a radiant scimitar with near identical stats except higher mana leech and no repond slaying.

How does that help me as a crafter per se?

    Explain?

I'd rather buy up all I can find and throw them in the trash.

It is ridiculously good for being a minor artie.

It should maybe have been a Doom Artifact 11...

    Theo GL,
I understand you frustration but perhaps you can make an Ornate Axe. I heard they can sometimes get outstanding mods that even rival the Soul Seeker, and since axes are used with the swordsmanship skill......it won't truly kill the market. Besides it'll be a challenge to any Balcksmith to make one. :) The Ornate axe is the weapon I hear a few Sampires use. So......perhaps that'll end your frustration. I know I'll be using one until I find the Soul Seeker and perhaps even after i get it. Especially when i go Factions. :)

  10. No, it didn't.

Which is exactly why Twinkling Scimitars sell so well. The Soul Seeker is useless against Undead, and frankly, the leeches are too low and it has no DI, so Twinks with high SL & ML, along with SSI, sell VERY well. Add Hit Spell, HLD or HLA onto that, and you've got a sword that any dexxer would love to have. I think you should reevaluate what it is you're trying to sell. Maybe check around with the Sampires on your shard and see what they're carrying. Personally, I've made millions selling nothing but Twinkling Scimitars. Even a halfway decent Twink will sell for at least 150-200k or more, which is about what a Soul Seeker sells for.

SS should be reasonably priced ... the first one I ever got was 100K (they were really rare then), but then the prices dropped and seemed to stabilize between 30K and 60K. That was on LA up until about September '08. Haven't played since so can't give you more current.

The soul seeker is but a secondary wep at best, or for just surviving spawns lol.
The best wep for a sampire for one on one combat (or two on one) is the ornate axe or leaf blade. Any time I find myself surrounded by spell casting monsters though I definatly pull out the soul seeker... If they do not cast spells I use the blaze of death.

I found that while training my character the soul seeker was a great weapon strictly for the added swing speed on it. Yet once I started working much more difficult spawn and bosses I found that it is virtually useless. The ONLY thing that I use a seeker for any longer is Irk due to his defences against physical damage weapons.

As was hinted towards above, the twinkling scimitar far out performs a soul seeker. The leeches on the seeker are plain and simply way too low, and the lack of Damage Increase makes it a bit of a joke against anything terribly formidable. Since I would presume that you are using Vampire form for the life drain that it offers, stamina is your best friend and your worst enemy I have found. Having a twink with 25-30 SSI with 40+ Stamina Leech and Mana Leech is almost a must have(extra mods are gravy). You need to be swinging at top speed at all times to enjoy the full benefits of life drain. With Curse Weapon it's like having a weapon that acts as your personal death avoider, extremely enjoyable.

The Ornate Axe is also a wonderful weapon if you can find similar mods on one. I have a collection of Heavy Ornates and Guardian Axes that I use for various things. Being a two hander gives a bonus to your parrying chances, and the damage per second can not be matched by anything last time I checked. Only drawback is using pots adds an extra key or two in your macros, not really a big deal, but nothing extra needed with a twink.

My vote...Buy and use a seeker for your training, or at least a good portion of it. Then toss it in your weapons box and only bring it out for very specific battles. Save your coins and either make or buy a nice Twink and Ornate of some flavor. Then reap the rewards that this great template has to offer.

Best of luck in your journey.

    Ax

It's actually far from perfect: life leech is almost useless as you only get back ~0-3 hp per hit stamina leech is nice but unneeded, it has no DI, 60 SSI really isnt noticeably better than 30 for a radiant scimitar. If you can craft a GM radiant scimitar with (40 DI) 30 SSI and full mana leech, any added properties would make it just as good or better than a SS.

The main use for the Seeker is when you're battling large amounts of spawn at once (say you've got ten or more critters attempting to surround you). The whirlwind attack allows you to leech incredible amounts of health/stam/mana, hence allowing you to perform another such attack... and another... and so on.

In a one on one battle, it's less then superb.

HSL is nice, but I prefer HML. I know Divine Fury lowers your DCI, but it'll instantly max your Stamina and give you a HCI boost. Of course DF requires Chivalry. If you don't have that, HSL becomes more important.

This weapon is a money maker. It will pay itself off in 1 day. I paid 150k for it. In 2 weeks of limited play I had my first 1000000 check in the bank.(for that char). That sounds like a little but it still isnt too me.
It only disappoints me that it outclasses so many craftable blades. That hurts the market.
If it had UBWS on it you could delete 75% of the one handed Gm weps in the game because nobody would be using them..... Oh wait ... nobody does.

I love the thing. When I came back to Ultima, I didn't have any of the amazing gear that people have now, but the game is now more talored to high end gear. I was really struggling to acomplish a lot of the things that I wanted to do, simply because of the gear barrier...

Anyways, I picked up a soul seeker for 50k and it just opened doors. I still have a long way to go, but at least I can attempt things that were once pretty much impossible.

Now, it's not the end all weapon, and it shouldn't be. But it's an amazing and fairly easy to aquire tool to help a returning player to get a leg up in the newer parts of the game.

  25. Actually, HML is the other "must have" property. You won't find any of my dexxers weps without both present, with the exception of the super slayers which you're lucky to get HML on.

If by troll you mean my post....if you look at the very first post, the guy was wanting info for his sampire character. IE is a soul seeker the best weapon out there to use for such a template. I was merely giving my input, as its more justified than practically anyones.

Calling someone a "nub" (???) doesn't really qualify as "input" of any sort.

Also, your thoughts on the Bloodwood Suit and the Soul Seeker are bizarrely uninformed. (See, I can offer "input" too, I just take more than 3 letters to do it.)

For certain purposes, the Soul Seeker, Bloodwood Suit, and the Necromancer-Samurai template can, in combination, be very powerful.

Not for all purposes, of course, hence the use of the word "certain" as a qualifier.

Now again, as stated, this isn't a combination I personally find useful, but I've seen it used to great effect. Mostly in gold farming, especially in the Painted Caves.

The Soul Seeker used to be a better weapon before the leaches were nerfed. As it stands now it's still.....Very useful. I was particularly intrigued by the guy who posted in this thread, saying that the Soul Seeker basically helped him to become viable after he came back to UO after an absence.

  30. You were not giving your input, you were passing out childish insults. Your so called "input" is also not more justified than "practically anyone's", it's less so as you didn't actually post anything that provided any constructive advice. In fact, I'd say that my input on the matter would be head and shoulders above yours, as I've provided advice on this subject daily for almost a year now, and have helped more than a few new Sampires via the warrior forum.

If you were actually trying to be "justified", you might have mentioned that the Soul Seeker is a perfect weapon to use against Irk due to it's 100% cold damage, but then you may not even know that.

A poster asked for a simple information.
    The trollfest was really unnecessary...
