    Hi there,
since I see really nice shields drop in shame I have a couple of questions:

    1.)
I noticed that when I equip a shield with my sampire for special occasions (i use a 10 SSI shield and a ranger cloak of augmentation to get to 55 SSI when fighting unbound EVs for example, which allows me to get hit without dropping to 1,5 real swing speed - longsword stays at 1,25 from 150 to 180 stamina with 55 SSI).
Question now is: I noticed that if I use a shield with my sampire - be it a luck shield or the one mentioned above - the shield NEVER drops in durability. I thought I would just use cheap cursed replacable shields until they break. But it looks as if they will NEVER break when used by a samp. Correct?

Is it because a samp - using bushido obviously - gets a weapon parry check but no shield parry check at all? The armor takes a beating but the shield does not?

Now, to test this I did a whole rat spawn on my samp with a shield and dur did not change at all.
And yes, I know that using a shield actually hurts your parry chance being a sampire which actually brings me to the next question.....

    2.)
When I find nice items in shame I always try to decide which template the mods will benefit.
Now with shields I really have a problem. It has been stated that shields are bad for throwers - will drop their hit chance if I remember correctly. We all know it is bad for sampires.
I don´t see shields in PvP because of pots, correct me if I am wrong please, I am a very casual PvPer.

So the only templates I can come up with: PvM mages (bards/tamers) for magery themed shields and - maybe - 4/6 PvM chiv dexers without bushido for dexer shields - does the garg version of this exist at all?.
This does not seem a lot really.

    What am I forgetting?
    Your thoughts?

    Thanks a lot,

    Hephaistos of Europa

    1. If you don't parry you don't lose durability on the shield.

If you have high bushido you don't parry with shield equipped even you have high parrying.

    it seems that's all

They could use them in some situations. Especially when they have 60 parry only (sacrifice low chance to block for some mods on a shield).

Thx for you answers. What I thought really....

Hmmm, out of interest: does anyone know what would happen at 120 bush/120 parry ? Would there still only be the weapon parry check? I can´t test it cause I lowered parry on my toon, well I guess I could hop on test....

    Thx.

You rarely if ever will successfully parry with a shield with high bushido. Its sadly the way of life.

Your chance to parry an attack would go from 35%/40% 1 handed weapon/2 handed weapon, to a straight 5% with a shield equip.

I understand, but the question is: since at the moment with low parry the shield cannot be damaged, would this change if parry and bush are equal, skillwise?
I mean there seems to be no damage check on the shield because your parry chance will be done agaisnt the weapon I beleive. This way you can use any nice brittle and/or cannot be repaired shield (for special things of course - where it is not important if you get hit a lot).
Now I wonder if the shield would get a damage check if both skills are equal...

Sampire use of shield will decrease Bushido's deffence.
However, your mana is good when you use shield with soul charge.
    I use shield for 1 EV,but I dont use sheild 2 EV.
And I dont use shield first, however sometime I use shield remain 3/4 for semidor.

The shield will check for damage ever time you parry. Around 5 times out of every 100 attempts.

Remember that Bushido was designed to work with parry and a two-handed weapon. (From books I have read and documentary films I have watched, RL Samurai typically did not use shields, unless you count their "sleeve shields" on the armor as a shield.)

Without Bushido, in theory, you parry with a two-handed weapon with Parry at half the rate you would with a shield and a one-handed weapon. And, with Bushido, in theory you parry with a two-handed weapon and no shield at the full rate.

Once upon a time if you had Bushido, a one-handed weapon, and no shield, you also parried at half the rate. At some point, though, if I'm reading Stratics' calculators correctly and if they themselves are correct, it changed and now you as a Samurai parry at full rate if you have no shield, even if you use a one-hander.

Really it's a tremendous advantage if I'm right. Pot-chugging and fully parry.

But either way if you have Bushido and Parry and a Shield you are parrying VERY rarely. If you aren't getting hit it's because your foe fails the initial check.

A new paradigm has emerged in recent years that either has Bushido without Parry and thus can use a shield for mods alone pretty much at will, or has Bushido with Parry but occasionally uses a shield for extra mods, thus sacrificing the ability to Parry.

No you still parry higher with a two handed weapon but its not a huge statistical difference. Many choose to chug over the slight increase. That being said the lack of shield mods can be a bit rough with the new shields coming out and casting speed.
