Spectral spellbinders have become the most efficient means of raising resist spells ever in UO. Unfortunately they are limited only to the island of haven, restricting red characters from their benefits and forcing everyone to be at the mercy of children whose only intent is to annoy you. If the spawn of this useful creature were extended to felucca and maybe the other facets, more players could benefit from the utility.

As it stands, annoying kids can kill the spawn leaving other players with no means of exacting justice upon them.

Possible spawn locations could be deceit, deceit champ spawn, cemetaries and other undead areas. Hell, brit graveyard in felucca would make for spectacular old school battles and more turf to fight over for pvpers.

By annoying kids, do you mean those who actually slay them around Old Haven, thereby gaining skill for their skill quests as well as regs and gold? Or are you talking about those who slay them out of spite when you are using them to train?

I mean the people in full trammel gear with finished trammel templates that are there to be annoying. the newbies are more than tolerated and usually are offered the spellbinders to make their day easier

You call them children, that kill the spellbinders, when you are attended/unattended on the Haven stairs going to the second floor? Or are you in the house with the open corner,or in a boat? More than likely you are the one acting like a child when anyone walks near 'your spellbinders',and you probably say "stop, they are mine, don't kill them!" just like a child would.

restricting red characters from their benefits

    No sympathy here.

forcing everyone to be at the mercy of children whose only intent is to annoy you ... kids can kill the spawn leaving other players with no means of exacting justice upon them.

Hate to break it to ya, but at no time was ANY spawn ever designed to be used in that fashion, nor does anyone have such a claim that disallows another character to interfere by killing the creature.

    *scratches head*

Besides... going back to the first point, aren't most people who are already red either maxxed out on Resist or chosen not to use it in the first place? I don't think I've heard too many people going "You know I need to take my red character to Haven and PvM" lately :p

In Omnius's defense, if they were located in Felucca, I doubt anyone would be unattended training off them. What's more, he could retaliate against anyone who bugged him while training in Felucca. You must admit, just because the spawn wasn't intended to "belong" to someone, there is a certain etiquette to hunting/training. If you kill the spellbinders someone is training with, it might be legal, but it still makes you a jerk. On Pacific, training in New Haven is pretty cordial with everyone respecting others who are training resist.

I agree it's probably unwise for the optimal location to train a skill to be located in a new player area. But I'd say it's more unfair to the new players than it is the vets. Putting a spawn in Fel doesn't solve the problem of getting all the non-PvPers (and PvPers who don't want risk while training) out of New Haven.

Oh, I don't go around Haven killing all of the SSs being fought by other players, as stated, it's just rude, but on the other side of the coin, it's also rude to try and corral as many as you can reeducing the overall spawn in order to macro up MR... in which case, I would say "kill away" and get the spawn moving correctly again.

    As always, it's a balance.

I haven't found that to be the case. In fact, the more players there are, the more creatures seem to spawn in Old Haven so one could argue those training MR actually help other players by allowing more creatures to spawn.

OP, can you not train Resist on a blue character then transfer it with a cheap soulstone fragment? Not sure if reds can use those as I haven't had a red since before SE.

Aside from that very good option, there's another method of training resist in Fel which is by FAR faster than herding spellbinders, finding a safe spot (typically a boat), and waiting there in hopes that people don't kill them, which in my experience on Cats, Europa and Drach, doesn't happen all that often since people check to see if I'm there before they kill "my" spellbinders (I even offer to share them when they ask about my presence).

Anyhow, if you are red, have a friend who has no EI and magery cast paralyze field and run through it. If you do it right, it's faster (and safer and can't be interrupted in the right places) than spellbinders.

Also, isnt there a curse stone in felluca still???

That used to be a good way to raise resist.

"other than a greedy 2 tamers, I've seen nobody take more than 4 solo."

Actually to get resists up past 100, you should use more than 10.

I would get 14-15 on me for optimum results.

I would do this real late at night, so I wouldn't be looked at as a complete a$$. :)

Can't you just get a guildmate to cast para field for you for a few minutes?

I haven't trained resist on a character for several years, but I often see conversations in irc where people are talking about spamming weaken on themselves to gain resist.

This is what i do with all my characters.

You don't even need to have magery to cast weaken if your character is human as you benefit from 20 natural skill, all you need is an LRC/LMC suit.

Its very very quick with a UOA macro.

  22. Last time *I* did that - and for the record I have - was when a "trainer" had 14 SS by the hut and there were two new characters needing them. Not only did I bring the new kids to the scene, but stayed around to insure all of the SS were killed so a proper spawn could happen.

If you want to train Resist, leave some of the mobs behind for those needing them, or my Paladin will make quick work of your session.

Para fields by a red w/no EI works wonders... also casting curse/weaken/clumsy etc does wonders as well...

If you could train resist on Spellbinders in Fel i'm sure it'd be a spot that PK's would check out as you'd be easy bait.

Sure if I want to have 120 resist spells on my 2 blues..... I realize in trammel you dont really need 120 in skills other than bard skills and taming skills but 120 is required in fel.

Frankly, it sounds like it'd become a great pvp spot as well as training spot.

Ahh that would explain it then lol

then i stay out of this topic from now as we have a way to raise in fel.

(not that id ever go there to train :p)

How would it be a good PvP spot as you could easily take advantage of someone in training not realy expecting to be attacked. How often do you train skills in a safe environment?

Oh wait... PvP today is all about taking advantage of someone weaker than you and unsuspecting...

There's better, faster ways to raise resist than using Spectrals. If you're complaining about not having them in Fel to train with... I laugh because there's ways to GM-legendary resist a LOT faster than those.

    My two cents:

Those spawn are for anyone to use. I get fed up with the concept that people are "entitled" to them for the purposes of going afk and working up resist. As a (young) player I was heavily cursed out on my first day for killing one, having no idea why someone was standing on a house porch idle.

As far as reds --- you guys get double resources, access to spawn and drops unavailable in Trammel, etc. etc. When Trammel has equal resources to Felucca and everything available in Felucca is available in Trammel, we'll talk about making spawn equality. ;)

I find it amusing that Omnius wants to call the people killing spellbinders in tram kiddies because he can't stop these players by killing them. Yet he can run around Fel like a little kid attacking / killing any blue player or newbie he comes across but that's all good. Basically he wants to be able to kill anything or anyone he wants but feels that others shouldn't be able to do the same simply because he can't stop them. Wake up last I checked this game wasn't called Omnius Online.

If it's really such a big deal work the skill on a blue character and soul stone it to your red. Is that really to hard for you? Quit whining.

This sentence pretty much sums up how I feel about all Fel-and-proud/PK players.

That island was made for new players to fight very low level creatures, not for vets to exploit.

Really what should happen is that only a character who still has their "young" status should be allowed to kill any of the creatures on that island.

If someone who does not have their young status attempts to attack a monster on that island, the system will tell you to grow a pair and get off the noob island.
