The other day I heard a couple of naked players in the bank talking about some sort of brand new, double secret program the devs have implemented to stop speedhacking.

So to test it out I stripped down and ran from Yew gate Fel to Minoc (Please dont ask me why anyone in the story was naked or on foot)

I ping 341 and am on a 12 year old laptop and as I was running I encountered every other player on the facet and not one of them was faster then me!

Speedhacking is finally a thing of the past. Yay!

Nah its not, I got overtaken last night while i was mounted up and with a ping of 43. Not only overtaken but killed by the same dude twice. Both times i had a full screen between me and him and both times i was caught up

Sorry, I was kinda being sarcastic :)

I believe that people are still running programs that speed up their client which makes their chars run faster ingame. It doesnt make them cast faster or do other things I cant do. It simply makes them run faster.

I have unfortunately been in guilds where people said they were running speedhacks.

That being said though I have never found it to be more then a minor annoyance when figthing people that seem to be obviously speeding.
If I am as good as or better then my opponent his little bit of extra speed is not going to be a huge factor. It will ofc mean he gets away from me a couple mores times then he should have but it certainly is not ruining my gameplay in any way, shape or form. If I even die a couple more times a week then I should have because some gimp chain disarm moving shot archer finally gets a great rng roll and runs me down with his speeder I am ok with that.
I know I am better and that he had to cheat. Its not the end of the world and doesnt eat me up inside like it seems to do to all the Fel haters lol.

I only point all this out because I am getting sick and tired of all the random Felluca haters wandering around doing nothing other then saying crap like "I dont pvp or play in Fel because everyone is scum and cheats"

    Are you kidding me?

How about you actually live and play in Fel before you open your naive mouth?

Because we all know that 95% of the people saying this nonsense have never played in Fel and the other 4.9% maybe played there years ago and are extremely out of touch now.

Llewen is the .1% who is certainly entitled to his opinion as he lives and plays in Fel :)

I have seen demonstrations that convince me otherwise and I find far more credible than random dudes on message boards. No I'm not telling you the details.

So all of those PvPers talking about cheats in Global Chat are Fel-haters?

It doesn't take a Fel-hater, it doesn't take a Trammel player of any kind, to think that cheating is rampant in PvP.

If half of what PvPers say about one another is half true half the time, then all PvPers cheat all of the time, or PvPers lie frequently. Take your pick.

You are correct that pvpers often accuse other pvpers of cheating but it is almost always because they are unskilled so they use supposed cheating as an excuse for dying.
I personally get that all the time. I kill people and then they accuse me of cheating. Its laughable.

Either way my point was quite clearly that people who do not live or play in Fellucca sound like total idiots when they start ranting anywhere(Luna bank,GenChat, forums)about what goes on there.

Whats your point about pvpers in GenChat again?

You ofc would not be able to understand this but it really is the underlying reason many Fellucca players/pvpers have a general distaste for Trammies(a stupid and harsh nickname but unfortunately spot on)
Almost all pvpers also spend a good deal of time on all other facets while almost all Trammies have no clue of anywhere else.
Pvpers can speak knowledgably about the entire game. Trammies cannot. Its a simple slice of reality.

And I am ofc talking about current, day to day knowledge. Not some bs history about who used to live where.

Demonstrably false: Accusations of cheating does not appear to be limited to a particular subset of PvPers. Losers do it, winners do it, and all in between.

Again: If half of what PvPers say about each other is half true half the time, then all PvPers cheat all the time. This is simple math from the raw number and intensity of accusations of cheating. It does not take any kind of Trammel player to come to that conclusion but rather it can be derived solely from what Fel players say about each other.

The rest of your post appears to consist of random attacks and is too-incoherent to respond to. Further, from what I can discern of it, such attacks are uniquely resistant to reality, and I've little patience for such things these days. Which is one of the biggest reasons I gave up on Felucca. I got tired of a place where victory and defeat were determined not by what actually happened but, rather, were determined socially, by the loudest and most-popularly liked voice.

Your posts are uniquely useful in reenforcing my decision and in showing the world that nothing, whatsoever, has changed.

You illustrate my points perfectly :)

You are well known on these boards as anti-fel everything yet in your own words you are getting your knowledge from where? Gen Chat?

Or do you have a history lesson for me?

Well I don't see this topic lasting very long, but good luck attempting to discuss it.

I am certainly far from a Fel hater, and have been known to pvp quite extensively (often writing about it), but I will admit that from my own experiences a great deal of pvpers I play with/against do speedhack (even if that's all they choose to use). I would still call most of them friends even though we may compete against each other, and it has taken several years to age (dare I say mature...) to understand that people will ultimately choose to play the game how they want regardless of "fairness", and consequently many players will then join them in an attempt to "level the playing field" (a vicious cycle). It still disappoints me to realize that at this point of the game it seemingly just has to be accepted, and can unfortunately be viewed as a logical decision (even though I don't agree with the reasoning). I now just chuckle as I imagine how easy and unsatisfying the game would be if I also cheated, and I am thankful that it still holds some challanges.

*The Enhanced Client (while it certainly still has it flaws) has dramatically helped to alleviate some of the discrepencies of playing against speedhackers, and I often recommend it to anyone that I hear is struggling, or complaining about those specific pvp issues.*

I previously have discussed my long experience in Felucca, in many contexts, in discussions in which you have participated and have chosen to ignore.

As stated, basing things on Global Chat is a convenient means of discerning what Felucca players say about each other, thus showing that it does not take a Trammel player to conclude that PvPers cheat. Indeed, that's what they say about each other, consistently and constantly.

You know all this and are choosing to ignore reality. You do it a lot.

Maybe I am blissfully ignorant, but I really don't see a lot of "speed hackers". Yes I see people running faster than me, but I am on an 8 year old computer and not the best internet connection.

When I PvPed on Sonoma (years ago) I was in a guild that required you to run a speeder. I ran it for a couple of weeks, didn't notice a difference, and never ran it again.

The people who say "I don't PvP because of everyone who uses speed hacks" are just looking for excuses and even IF this game was cheat free they would find other reasons not to PvP.

There are many reasons I don't PvP anymore, but I've PvPed through a lot of cheating, and only stopped pretty recently (and cheating surely isn't any worse than it has been). so not sure who you're referring to.

I thought it was quite obvious what I was trying to get across.

It was in response to some genius saying he knows people are speedhacking because as he was walking halfway across the shard he saw one naked guy run past him. He went on to say that is why he wont pvp. He doesnt pvp but he just happened to be walking across fellucca and a naked guy just happened to be zipping through?

    Are you kidding me?

Btw, in this thread I referenced that I know people use speedhacks.

Its always nice when someone reads the entire thread before they post lol. You know better, I know better.

So the purpose of this thread was to publicly mock another person because you couldn't post a response before it was locked? All you managed to do was to rehash a discussion that never goes anywhere.

Isn't there a speedcap on the servers anyway? At least it was my understanding, based on a dev's post years ago (MrTact I think) that a very generous speedcap had been put in and that the only way to truly speedhack was to hack the servers themselves. I know that NOW, the programs that people refer to as "speedhacks" are really programs that speed up and optimize your comp. I tested this around the time the post came out and one person used a program I won't name to "speedhack" but when he was on my screen, I couldn't see any difference in his speed or movements at all.

It was Speedman who said there was a cap now, he also stated he'd put it in-place. There have long-been doubts about the effectiveness of that cap.

Indeed whenever I brought up that cap in response to Felucca players accusing one another of speed-hacking I was insulted for not understanding how things worked. Funny how that hasn't come up in present discussions with others raising the issue.

Yes at least one of the speed hack programs actually run your processor ridiculously high thereby speeding things up.

Once upon a time I experienced evidence that convinced me that this program also had an impact on spell timing (or at least appeared to).

Another (now former) team member, the one that used to be a mod here (Wilki?), stated that this program, though sold itself as only doing stuff on your own computer (thereby in theory making it within the UO Terms of Service) in fact had some kind of impact on the data stream (thereby rendering it not within the UO Terms of Service).

I cannot independently verify that proposition, nor do I ever wish to try. I am merely relaying what was said many years ago.

    "Once upon a time"
"what was said many years ago"

    Seriously?

No offense Galen but as I twice pointed out in this very thread, you have no first-hand knowledge of Fellucca or pvp yet you are always the first to chime in and bash it.

You bring nothing to any Felluca discussion other then ancient history and rumors of what other people supposedly said in GenChat or on the boards.

Transparently you have not read, or did not understand, the post you responded to as it said nothing about Global Chat and did not trash Felucca.

There were empirical questions raised, which I answered.

Seriously? You are so far out of touch that you are resorting to petty semantics?

"So all of those PvPers talking about cheats in Global Chat are Fel-haters?"
"If half of what PvPers say about one another is half true half the time, then all PvPers cheat all of the time, or PvPers lie frequently"
"As stated, basing things on Global Chat is a convenient means of discerning what Felucca players say about each other"
"There are many reasons I don't PvP anymore, but I've PvPed through a lot of cheating"
"I cannot independently verify that proposition, nor do I ever wish to try. I am merely relaying what was said many years ago"

These are all quotes of yours from this thread alone. The last one is classic btw lol. You cannot independently do what? You are relaying what from years ago?
Do you even re-read or think about the nonsense you post when you talk about Fellucca?

I stated that I am tired of you trashing Fellucca & pvp in general because you have zero current knowledge and do nothing other then spout ancient history and what you supposedly hear in chat.
You are now trying to defend that how?

How about you stay on topic and talk about cheating in Fellucca with some actual firsthand knowledge?

    *sighs*

Again: The post you replied to contained answers to empirical questions that were raised. I had answers to specific questions, I provided them to the best of my ability. (The nature of one of the more-famous speed hacks, the famous server-side speed cap, etc.)

The quotes you provide out of context stand on their own merits, but presenting them in this context bears little obvious relationship to the current post that you're actually addressing.

Oh, and it's "Felucca." One "l," two "c"s. (And, to dispel another popular error, not one you made in this post but another one I see a lot, there's no "i.")

The forums is the only place Goldberg has a hope to "dominate" something, considering everyone in Fel just makes fun of him.

Btw, Speedhacking dead? Laughable. Whats more laughable is the fact that this game is laggy as hell, so whenever someone outruns someone, it immediately means someone is speedhacking.

Speeding still exists, so do various other programs that pvpers use to get better pings and such.

Only ever lived in Fel since the beginning. Homes all in Fel still.
PvPed 24/7 in CYN for years. Now in another PvP
guild. Played with or against most every regular PvPer
on Atlantic at one time or another.

Yea bro.... almost every PvPer uses a speeder and yea it makes
a big difference. Try field fighting at a champ w/ speeder noobs
zipping around. Careful placement of fields means nothing when
the same cheaters are running static fields and other 3rd ppgs/client mods
that give them huge advantages. I know the progs, client mods, scripts
and cheats - I will not use them, ever. Hence why I quit pvping almost
    2 yrs ago.

Saying they're not an issue in this game nor have been is blissful ignorance
or just plain lies. Sorry but that's the truth.

...and there's the people that don't understand why they can't use their walmart computer with an integrated graphics card and half a meg DSL to keep up with people that have $3k+ invested in a top of the line factory overclocked computer with 100meg fiber internet. There's just too many variables to go pointing fingers at everyone.

I'm not saying programs don't exist and people aren't using them. Some are, some aren't, but not everyone. If Acid Rain was remotely right about "almost everyone using them", it would be a totally equal playing field which it's not. Ping, computer, and internet connection play such a huge role.

Since this latest patch, half the population is doing the 2step so I don't see why this thread is even here.

No issues other then finding persons that cant talk w/o sarcasm mildly annoying :)

I love UO and find the PvM side much more enjoyable & am having just as much, if not more, fun
then I ever did in PvP. If you were ever in ANY PvP only guild for ANY length of time you would
know my statements are accurate. I would repeat my statement abt ignorance or lies here.

I never said 'I know them all' but then you knew that in your feeble attempt to belittle my comment.
I stopped PvPing because I did not enjoy it any longer. Your broad over-generalized sarcastic comments
just show something I said bothered you and for that I'm sorry.

@ Lythos - your 100% correct abt the importance of ping, computer, and connection. I still stand firm
on my comment that almost every hardcore pvper uses a speeder. The term 'hardcore' was omitted
from my original comment but in hindsight it should have been included. Also, UO will never be
a totally equal playing field considering the many factors involved in the game (ie, coordination,
intellect, and timing just to name a few).

Im enjoying my latest gaming experience from UO (PvM) and I hope everyone finds
enjoyment in whatever aspect of the UO gaming experience they prefer :)

I dunno about speedhacks (I run EC and to my knowledge SH can only be ran on CC). However, there is certain items that when equipped (at least in EC, never tried in CC), make your run extremely fast. Can destroy your two screen lead in no time. Its quite funny too. I've been paged on multiple times, GM's come, I show them what's up, GM's laugh, GM's leave. I think I've cycled through most of the games GM's now and they don't show up anymore when people page.

Omg not the "I have the most expensive and most powerful computer ever syndrome". Heh if you know anything about computers instead of looking at other people's rigs, you'd know you could build same said computer at half the price and even using an overclocked intell chip. I did it. And besides, I have talked to very serious pvpers who say, quote/unquote, everyone who knows pvp is using a hack of some sort so Acid Rain stands official in his debate. Why do ppl use hacks, cuz they are scared to lose. The same ones who cheated on tests in gradeschool cuz they intellectually sucked. I did the same as Acid Rain with pvm because it got beyond stupid and unfair to pvp anymore. Do I still got the knack, hells yes I do. I come back from time to time to crush a "script-kiddie" and it's quite enjoyable. pvp has been tainted with hacks for ages now and sorry buddy but UO knows it and does nothing. If uo did anything, they'd lose half of it's subscribers which is why punk-bunster never got implemented. I'll jump off my soap box now. Cheers!

...and that has absolutely nothing to do with my point that better comps + ping + internet tier can easily outrun people with bottom level gear (IE my walmart reference).

Yes I've seen quite a few that are obviously cheating but I've also seen a LOT that obviously aren't. To stereotype everyone that pvps as a cheater just isn't true is what i'm saying. But you say you pvp sometimes and Acid Rain has admitted to pvping in the past too. Don't stereotype and classify when you throw yourself in the mix as well.

Why are you assuming that if someone accuses others of speedhacking, the accuser must therefore have an inferior box? It doesn't take much of a PC to run UO at max speed.

Actually, Melchior was not saying that himself. He was quoting other PvPers who say it. Is it true? I can't say, but I'll add that we dealt with a few dominant guilds infamous for nothing BUT cheating, and it's why I gave up entirely on PvP.

Because it's the age old debate where if someone dies the other person just MUST be cheating. All i'm saying is yes, they're out there but it doesn't include everyone. As a former pvper you should know this as well.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that imo, there are still programs out there that i dont know about yet. I dont have a problem pvping just plain old uo and uo assist yet i get accused constanly of speeding but i live right in sonoma valley so im fast on sonoma i ping like 14.
But back to the "programs". I really do not care what anyone in this game says i have witnessed it firsthand right before my eyes and my wife has too. And its always only certain people so i know it is not just some game gliche. And also it is not the typical speeder either because i know about those and i can tell when someones using the typical ones. I will try to describe what it is when i say "programs out there that i dont know about". I was fighting someone for instance i wont say who, and they are a normal speed, and than i swear to god on my life that right as they were almost gonna die, they literally flew across the screen so f'ing fast and than they healed. And this has happened with the same person on almost every occassion. Its like theyre speed changes throughout the fight or something.
Its like a speeder that can be turned up or down or on or off or something im not really sure. But nothing will change my mind on the fact that theres things most of us just dont know about still. I mean it is an old game. Sorry for the wall of text.

That is not the point here. This thread started solely to talk about speedhacking, which I dealt with too many times. I've tracked stealthers who outran me while I was mounted, and others who didn't hide blipping around my screen.

Now, I couldn't say if it's still around today, but as Melchior said, this "My PC is simply faster" doesn't always wash. As a (current?) PvPer you should know that.

You do realize that you can't turn the speeders on with the snap of a finger right? So to claim that people have the ability to turn their speeder on when they are red lined is not only a bad assumption, but completly wrong in my expierences. A more plausable explanation is they realized there were in trouble so they ran like heck out of there what jamming down their heal potion macro.

Yeah but see you didnt even read my post man. I said its something not like the typical speeders and im not sure what it is. And it isnt a claim that people can turn theyre speeders up, because trust this is different youd have to see it to beleive it, i even said its not the typical speed hacking because i know exactly what that looks like.
God i wish i could give you the name, but the guy is actually kind of my freind too so i dont want to spread **** about him. P.s Yes ive asked him about it but he just chuckles. and he doesnt even play that much anymore but hes on sonoma.

If he has been on Sonoma a while I can take a good guess on who you are talking about.

I dont want to say his name but if you know who he is than you should know exactly what i am talking about, and ive only ever seen something similar on other shards like maybe twice but if you cant tell when you see it than you gotta be stupid or something. (not meaning "you" are stupid just saying in general anyone should be able to see that somethings up.)

I know the feeling. I've had several people in my day outrun me on foot as well. I know it started with speeders then developed into all cheats and then to "everyone that pvps cheats".

It's just not true that everyone that pvps on a constant basis runs some form of speed, cheat or hack. It's just not true.

It is not everyone that pvps cheats. It is more of a community that seems to have some kind of idea that without cheating you are impeding yourself.
While this may be accurate (a big may) this does nothing for the game as a whole, and obviously no long term solution is implemented.
Simply put the cheat has become the "believed" common ground to all players and in their minds they believe the end all be all solution.

The real problem is this game is running out of players and are approaching the cliff moment, the point where the remaining players wont stick around to play with whats left.
On top of this all the players are so used to using this broken solution they cant understand why new players dont want to step in so they have to deal with it too.

Denying the problem just makes you look stupid, rampant trolling (goldberg) so the problem goes away is even dumber. Taking advice on ANYTHING from players with either of these ideas isnt showing that they are dumb, it shows YOU are.

BTW i can name countless games where this isnt a problem, if this is such a gaming problem why is it unique to Ultima Online? Think about it.

Oh, certainly. The universal statement is of course not true, but again, Melchior was only quoting PvPers who think that. His and my experience is that most prominent ones indeed are using cheats. Not just PC "tuners" to maximize performance, but using illegal programs to get around speedcaps.

The speeding changes nothing besides making people move at the cap speed the server allows them. Swing speed, casting, and human thought processes are not changed due to these things. The most it helps is running shot archers/throwers, dreadmare tamers, and who dies to that? It's just the easy thing to say when you were probably going to die to that player anyways.. "he's faster than me", not "he makes better choices than me" or "he was better prepared than me", or "he's just a better player than me".

That is correct. That is why a lot of people use the proxy services, which are essentially legal. They are not changing or modifying anything, but simply making your route to the servers better. Makes a huge improvement for those players playing east coast from the west and vice versa, or especially those from europe.

This "cap" you speak of is ONLY achieved by people running these programs, it makes no sense to have it as high as it is.

Since you run the templates you just complained no one should die to, and run particularly faster than every other player, i would say your opinion is worth lots LOL.

This sure adds value to the game right?

BTW by your own thought process and statement you are "better player and better prepared" to run these programs, now the community can see why no one new is coming.

Unfortunately there are always going to be subpar pvpers that use speedhacks/cheats as an excuse for what is simply a lack of their own skill.

There is always an excuse for everybody. It's you and your connection, nope its you and not playing fair. You are terrible at pvp, nope you suxxors at pvp. My rig is better than yours, no sorry I have the l33t3ss comp out there.

Last night I was in a 300+ person battle on one of out WvW maps ( we have 4 maps just for WvW) my GW2 server and first time I lagged like a turtle in slow motion. People zipping by me while I was hardly moving on my screen. Others on our server TS was saying the same thing. So crap happens. We died, some lived. Had it happen again later on. It's expected sometimes but hardly happens.

So the point above things happen even out of our control. This includes UO and not everybody cheats. Many factors or "excuses" could be the cause but the easy accusation is to point and call that person a cheater.

I'll make it easier for everybody. Point the finger to me and blame me . I won UO and I cheated ...not..but lets go with it as I did..... :)

I rather enjoy the excuses why a few players are faster than the rest of the community.

If that isnt funny enough it gets even better when they try to tone down the problem by sayin it has no effect on the community in general.

Granted you may be pathetic to have to run all this crap, but not as pathetic for Mythic to think this was good for the game in general.

There is NO game where letting this kind of crap happen where it helps the game in ANY way. I laugh at our current staff because i know i will never have to deal with any of them outside Ultima Online again.

You would be STUPID to hire them LOL! Ruining a successful games population in record time.
