What is the current situation with spell damage increase in pvp?

The facts are, the mage is a focused mage (ie: wrestle/scribe).

what spell damage increase is the cap? How much comes from items?

I heard there is no cap. I could be wrong or it could be a bug but someone just recently told me this....

30% SDI from items if you're focused in any one specific casting ability. You get an extra 10% from inscription if it's at GM for magery and mysticism spells.

There's no cap in PVM for SDI.

Partially correct. There is a cap for PvP, none for PvM.

Last I knew it was still capped at 15 for PvP.

the only mildly useful answer has been unclear. The cap is either 30%(10% Inscribe/20% items) or 40%(30% items/10% items)

Here is how the spell damage is made:

First is applied the eval int bonus

Second is applied the intelligence bonus

Third is applied the inscription bonus

Fourth is applied the items sdi bonus

The cap is about the ITEMS bonus and is 30, the rest is not part of the cap.

For PvM there is no item cap.

For PvP if you are a Non focus mage there is a 15% item cap.

If you are a focus mage there is a 30% item cap.

If you add GM inscription to any mage template you get an automatic 10% SDI bump (no items needed.)

with Inscription you get 1% SDI for every 20 points, then 5% bonus for being at GM. total is 10%. so if you always play a human it's really 9% SDI because you always get 1% from Jack of All Trades

as others have said it does not count against 30% SDI item cap. so you can have 30% SDI from items and 10% SDI from Inscription at the same time.

also just as a side note you do not need Tactics to use Wrestling special moves.

keep in mind there have been changes to Magic Reflection and Magic Resist that you might want to look into before making a decision about Inscription but someone else would have to clarify on those.

edit: I just read in another thread that Casting Focus is capped at 12%, but if you have GM Inscription it is capped at 17%. casting focus gives you a chance to avoid spell disruption, kind of like Parrying or Evasion
